Preschool Summer Camp | ijams

Don’t wait! Spots fill quickly for the Ijams summer day camp specifically designed for ages 3-5!

Preschool Summer Camp is Fun!

Preschool Summer Camp focuses on child-led, age-appropriate experiential learning for children ages 3-5. Most of the day is spent outdoors, exploring nature and making a strong connection with the environment. Children learn through play, discovery, and inquiry. Not only do children develop a solid foundation for lifelong learning but also cultivate a love of nature that is the basis for a conservation ethic later in life.

Each session is a combination of outdoor play, nature hikes, and animal presentations. Special crafts, art projects, and/or hands-on activities throughout the week allow campers to explore different topics based on their interests.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Ages: 3-5 who are fully potty-trained at time of camp.

  • Homebase: Ijams Miller Building

  • Session Duration: 5-day sessions, Monday-Friday 9 am-12 pm

  • Cost per Session: $166 for Members | $175 for Non-Members NOTE: There is no camp on July 4; this session is pro-rated to $132 for Members and $140 for Non-Members.

WEEKLY CAMP THEMES

Week 1: June 6-10 | Preschool Summer Camp ROCKS

This week is all about the amazing geology at Ijams. How do rocks move? How are mountains formed? Are there different kinds of rocks? Campers will learn these answers and more!

Week 2: June 13-17 | It’s the Circle of Life

There are lots of plants and animals at Ijams that have interesting life cycles. The plants and animals here also are all connected in ways that preschool campers will experience first hand this week!

Week 3: June 20-24 | Furry and Feathered Friends

Furry and feathered friends are everywhere at Ijams, making it the perfect place to learn about these creatures! Campers will learn about mammals and birds, and meet a few of Ijams’ animal ambassadors.

Week 4: June 27 – July 1 | Tree Huggers

There are so many trees and plants at Ijams. Campers will learn about tree life cycles, the parts of trees, and maybe hug a tree! Discussions about the forest and its role on earth will introduce the importance of caring for the environment.

Week 5: July 5-8 | Creepy Crawlies (4-Day Session; No Camp July 4)

If your camper likes bugs, this is the perfect week for them! Campers will turn over logs, dip for aquatic insects, and study the invertebrate world up close with a magnifying lens.

Week 6: July 12-15 | Wet ‘n’ Wild

Campers will experience water up close and personal this week! They’ll explore Lotus Pond and the creek, and see some of the animals who call these places home. Sprinklers and water games are also a highlight of this camp!

Week 7: July 18-22 | Mud Scientists

Your camper will learn that science gets messy! They’ll discover what creatures live in the mud, and that it’s made up of more than just dirt. Mud paintings, mud pies, and more will be created this week!

Week 8: July 25-29 | Fungi Fun

Mushrooms, fungus, and lichen are the focus of this camp! Where do these things like to live? How do they feel? By the end of this week, your camper will know the answer to these questions and more!
