A Foundation for Success

At Creative Kids, Pre-K is a vital part of the journey to success in kindergarten. Through a combination of independent and group work, we guarantee that children make developmental leaps and bounds, learn to communicate effectively, and become better collaborators. Our Pre-K program explores:

  • Problem-solving
  • Responsive listening
  • Using language to learn
  • Social and collaborative skills

Children have the opportunity to develop skills across a variety of disciplines in our eight dynamic learning centers.

  • Music & Movement Center: Children strengthen physical coordination abilities by moving, dancing, and singing in cooperation and communication with their classmates.
  • Math Center: By organizing, counting, comparing, and sorting numbers, children explore new ideas and foundational early math concepts.
  • Art Center: This creative center gives children an environment that encourages discoveries like new art techniques and concepts of color.
  • Dramatic Play Center: Emotional expression is demonstrated in this area, where children use their imaginations to make sense of the world in a way that enhances early writing and reading abilities.
  • Block Center: By exploring different materials, children fine-tune their hand-eye coordination as they sort, count, and pattern items.
  • Science Center: Children enhance their classification, analytic, prediction, and experimentation skills as they learn about animal and plant life cycles and other physical and earth science concepts.
  • Writing Center: Letter and word recognition and formation, along with segmenting words into sounds, and putting new sounds together to make words, allow children to succeed at written communication.
  • Reading Center: Children continue to build literacy skills here while they sharpen their print awareness, story comprehension, and listening abilities.

Our Young Achievers™ curriculum relies on the foundational principle of active learning, because it’s inspired by the HighScope philosophy. We ensure that students have hands-on experiences with new ideas and materials, all of which are guided by our comprehensive Plan-Do-Review process.  Our digital lesson planning tool creates individualized curriculum, based on teachers’ observation and assessment of children, so that they can achieve and exceed milestones across 10 developmental scales.

  • Approaches to Learning: Measuring children’s abilities to make plans, interact with others as well as the environment, and set goals.
  • Creative Arts: Measuring children’s ability to express themselves and their feelings through movement, music, drama, and visual arts.
  • Language: Measuring children’s expressive and receptive vocabulary, in addition to their ability to use their vocabulary in conversation for effective communication.
  • Literacy: Measuring children’s knowledge of the alphabet, their ability to read and write, and their comprehension and phonological awareness.
  • Logic & Reasoning: Measuring children’s ability to sequence, solve problems, and think critically and symbolically.
  • Early Math: Measure the ability to comprehend numbers, patterns, sorting, and ordering, while using numbers for addition, subtraction, measurement, and graphing.
  • Nature & Science: Measuring children’s understanding of the natural and physical world, in addition to their ability to observe, describe, predict, and gather data.
  • Social Studies: Measuring children’s ability for self-awareness, as well as their ability to understand their families, their community, and their world.
  • Physical Development/Health: Measuring fine and gross motor skills, as well as children’s ability to understand health and nutrition.
  • Social-Emotional Development: Measure children’s awareness of themselves, and their ability to show respect and empathy toward others.

Nevada Ready State Pre-K

Overview

The 2001 Nevada Legislative session allocated $3. 5 million per year for Fiscal Years (FYs) 2002 and 2003. This initial allocation was for the establishment of a comprehensive early childhood education program across Nevada. Within this legislation, the Nevada State Legislature (Legislature) authorized the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) to offer competitive grants to school districts and community-based organizations to initiate or expand pre-Kindergarten education programs. The 2003 Legislature continued their support of the successful early childhood education programs by allocating $2,595,583 for pre-Kindergarten education programs through a competitive grant process and $301,000 towards the statewide Classroom on Wheels (COW) program. State-funded Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) Education programs, including COW, for FYs 2004 and 2005 received a total of $2,896,583 per year. During FYs 2006 and 2007, Pre-K programs were funded at $3,032,172 and $3,152,479, respectively. During FYs 2008 and 2009, Pre-K programs were funded at $3,251,671 and $3,338,875, respectively. Fiscal Years 2010-15 were flat funded at $3,338,875. For the first 15 years, Nevada State PreK was half day and met 7 out of 10 benchmarks of quality as determined by the National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER). In 2015, Nevada received the federal Preschool Development Grant (PDG) to expand the state pre-K program by increasing program quality requirements including providing full day services. This new and improved program became known as Nevada Ready! State Pre-K (NR!PK).

In 2019, the 80th legislative session awarded $19M to sustain seats established through the PDG . This also resulted in passage of SB84 which outlines program requirements for Nevada Ready! State Pre-K and enters these requirements into statute. This program follows the quality standards established through the Preschool Development Grant.

  • NRS 387 Statute

The Nevada Ready! State Pre-K program adheres to the vision of the Nevada Early Childhood Advisory Council’s vision:

Nevada’s children will be safe, healthy, and thriving during the first eight years of life, and the system will support children and families in achieving their full potential.

This vision guides the work and collaborations of the NR!PK team.

        PDG B-5

In spring 2019, The Nevada Department of Education’s Office of Early Learning and Development was awarded the one-year federal Preschool Development Grant Birth through Five. Grant efforts included key components of improving early childhood in Nevada through five system building activities: Needs Assessment, Strategic Plan, Maximize Parent Choice & Knowledge, Sharing Best Practices and Improving the Overall Quality. Each activity has specific goals to help our team and stakeholders make a plan to carry our state forward in some ambitious changes. We received substantial community-level and cross agency feedback to create a coordinated, comprehensive plan that supports mixed-delivery platforms for children 0-5 and their families.

The PDG B-5 2019 Nevada Needs Assessment explores the resources and gaps in the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) system that serves infants, toddlers and their families in the 17 urban and rural counties of Nevada. It also provides insights and recommendations tightly aligned with the three goals of the Nevada Early Childhood Advisory Council (NECAC) Strategic Plan 2018-2021: Provide Excellent Early Learning Systems; Ensure Strong Family Partnerships; and Support Child and Family Health. This needs assessment was produced in partnership between the Nevada Department of Education Office of Early Learning and Development, Nevada Institute for Children’s Research and Policy (NICRP), and the NECAC.

This publication was made possible by Grant Number 90TP0025-01-00 from the Office of Child Care, Administration for Children and Families, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Its contents are solely the responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily represent the official views of the Office of Child Care, the Administration for Children and Families, or the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

              PDG B-5 Fiscal Feasibility Study

The PDG B-5 Fiscal Feasibility Study was prepared by MetrixIQ for the State of Nevada Department of Education, Office of Early Learning and Development as it considers options for expanding and enhancing early childhood services and programs in the state. As part of the Preschool Development Grant Birth through Five (PDG B-5), this report seeks to support these efforts by:

              1. Providing a high-level overview of the landscape of early childhood care and availability throughout Nevada;
              2. Reviewing the strengths and weaknesses of the existing early care system within the state;
              3. Comparing key data points from four other states to better understand the areas where Nevada is unique and where it is comparable to other states; and
              4. Developing a cost estimation tool (CET) for understanding what it might cost the state to enhance and expand the childcare market and services in Nevada.

              PDG B-5 SRI Alignment Documents

Nevada Department of Education partnered with SRI International to strengthen and align standards related to learning and development for young children, early childhood program quality, and professionals working with young children through Nevada’s Preschool Development Grant Birth–5. Deliverables from this project include an executive summary plus reports and recommendations for alignment work in each of the three standards areas.

Dawson’s Early Childhood program is designed to spark curiosity and an excitement for learning in young children that will last them a lifetime. It is here that we begin to lay the foundation for their educational journey, developing and nurturing their sense of wonder, inspiration and curiosity.

View the full curriculum guide for Dawson’s Early Childhood program below, which is guided by the National Association of Independent School’s Essential Capacities for the 21st Century.

              Dawson Early Childhood FAQs

              List of 10 items.

              • What are your class sizes and teacher-to-student ratios?

The National Association of Education for Young Children (NAEYC) recommends early childhood programs to maintain a 1:10 ratio. At Dawson, we value the importance of our students receiving individualized attention and therefore we maintain a 1:9 ratio. Each of our classrooms has a highly qualified lead teacher and an assistant teacher.

              • Is your program licensed and accredited?

Dawson’s Early Childhood Center is not only a licensed through Nevada Child Care Licensing, but we are also accredited through the National Association of Education for Young Children (NAEYC). The Early Childhood Center is very proud to have maintained a NAEYC  accreditation since 2007. To earn NAEYC Accreditation, the Early ChildhoodEducation Center must continue to meet each of the ten program standards, and hundreds of corresponding individual criteria. NAEYC-accredited programs are always prepared for unannounced quality-assurance visits during their accreditation term, which lasts for five years. In the 30 years since NAEYC Accreditation was established, it has become a widely recognized sign of high-quality early childhood education; less than 10 percent of all child care centers, preschools, and kindergartens nationally achieve this recognition.

              • What are the teachers’ experience and education qualifications?

All of our teachers hold college degrees, many with masters degrees. Our teachers have several years of experience working in early childhood education. Additionally, our faculty participates in yearly professional development courses, workshops and conferences.

              • Do you offer after-school enrichment classes?

Dawson’s Bear After-School Experience (BASE) Enrichment Program provides after-school classes and athletic opportunities for students from preschool through eighth grade. A diverse offering of quality classes are held on campus throughout the week. The program includes engaging classes that appeal to a wide range of experiences for our students.

              • Does my child need to be toilet-trained?

All students must be independently toilet-trained prior to starting in the early childhood program.

              • Are meals and snacks provided?

Healthy lunches are provided by the school food’s service, SAGE Dining. Lunch menus include hot entrees, sandwiches, salads, fruit and beverages. Morning and afternoon snacks are provided to early childhood students as well.

              • What is the program’s discipline policy?

A Dawson student takes risks, shows resilience, listens to feedback, learns from mistakes and shows progress throughout his/her journey as a young learner. Dawson students thrive to be kind in their words and actions, and are expected to make choices that keep themselves and others safe socially, emotionally, and physically. Learning how to interact with other people, work on a team, and give and hear constructive feedback are essential skills for our students’ future. The early childhood program uses positive discipline techniques to teach children to learn and grow from their choices and empowers them to be strong communicators, problem-solvers and collaborators.

              • Is the school campus secure and safe for my child?

The school’s main gate is monitored 24-hours a day, seven days a week. Visitors must have their name on the visitor’s calendar at the security gate, or the visitor will not be permitted on campus. Campus buildings are secured with biometric doors and early childhood students are signed in and out daily using a biometric fingerprint check-in system.

              • What will my child learn?

The early childhood center fosters independence and develops skills such as problem-solving, listening, language, fine and gross motor skills. The curriculum includes literacy (i.e. reading, writing, phonics, word study), Everyday Mathematics, Social-Emotional Development, technology, music and movement, library, and health and fitness. The curriculum combines direct instruction and play-based activities, taking into account each student’s developmental level for individualized instruction.
(Please refer to the Early Childhood Catalog for an in-depth look at our curriculum.)

              • Is parent involvement welcomed?

Parent volunteer opportunities are available for classroom activities and special events. Parent involvement at Dawson is vital to the success of our students and programs! Dawson is proud of its sense of community, reflected in community cooperation, teamwork and a sense of belonging.

              • How to Choose a Quality Early Childhood Program

Amanda Murray-Musgrave, Director of Early Childhood

Choosing an early childhood program can be both overwhelming and intimidating. The quality of instruction can vary considerably, so parents must become informed consumers. This requires investing time, energy, and research into making a decision that is best for your child and family.

                  Review of: The Mob Museum

                  Museum of Crime

The museum has collected a lot of detailed material about American crime over the past 100 years, including the political, sports, film, international mafia and everything else. There is also about us, but so, in passing. Everything is done in the classic style of the film “Only Girls in Jazz” – bandits in velor hats and wide jackets, a lot of documents, numbers and film materials, there is an electric chair with a switch – you sit down, turn it on and the light starts flashing, very impressive. There is a souvenir shop and even a retro-style cafe for a complete immersion in the criminal atmosphere. In a word, interesting, but for our tourist a little naive. In the sense that for such a museum at home, a building of a much more impressive size would be needed.
That’s all for now, next stop is Death Valley. Scary already? Tripadvisor checks reviews.

For fans of Shelby, Mustang and motorsports

Legendary brand, museum and showroom. Approximately 50 cars have been presented since the foundation in 1960s to the present day. Free guided tour in English 🙂 lasts about 2 hours. Many interesting facts about the history of creation, brand, technical features of cars.

Oddly enough, the best experience – from the Shelby gift shop. Great selection of t-shirts, caps and other brand logos. You can choose the perfect gifts for car lovers and not only.

If you don’t speak English there is nothing to do here

Museum of the paranormal, puppets and oddities etc. You need to take 3-4 hours to visit if there is no queue. Very expensive price of 45 euros per person. If you do not speak English, there is nothing to do there, it is a waste of time because you walk with a guide who tells you, without understanding what they are talking about, it is simply not interesting. It is strange that there are no headphones with translation.

this is my third wax museum

I have already visited three such museums: in New York, Los Angeles and this was the third. Probably my favorite in New York, but I liked this one more than in Los Angeles. I also liked that you can even take photos at the entrance in daylight. The figures are made as if alive when you go to the museum, but when you look at the photo at home, you can see that it is wax. I did not find my favorite figures in this museum. All good

Review of: White Tiger Habitat at the Mirage

                    Mini Zoo

This kennel is located on the Mirage Hotel. Here you can see dolphins – as such, there is no show, but while feeding, dolphins do several tricks. You can also look at several lions, tigers and leopards. Not to say that it’s just wow, but the children like at least some variety from the types of casinos.

Over the past two years, many residential buildings have grown in the area of the Churilovskaya dam. At the same time, children’s institutions and consumer services are being built here.

Yesterday, on Vyazemskaya Street, the nurseries of the first funny children’s hearth in the area (nursery-kindergarten) for 140 places were affably opened.

Two-story white sand-lime brick building, colorful awnings. Bright flower beds, green crowns of newly planted villages – all this made the housewarming of the kids especially solemn and joyful.

Who built the children’s hearth? Workers of large-panel construction trust. Especially a lot of effort was invested by the integrated brigade of communist labor, headed by V.E. Andreenkov. Today, dads and moms of kids say to the builders: “Thank you very much.”
