- Bring out any stuffed or toy dinosaur buddies and make it a party. Kiddos can pretend they are roaring reptiles, jungle explorers, or anything else their imagination comes up with. No costumes are needed, but they do make things way more fun!
Easy Add-On Dino Play Ideas
Make DIY binoculars for your intrepid explorer
- Simply place two toilet paper rolls side by side and tape them together with masking tape or duct tape.
- Punch or poke holes through the outer side of both toilet paper rolls and then thread a piece of string, yarn, or ribbon through both holes, knotting it at the ends (be sure the loop is big enough for your child to easily pass their head through it).
- Now your kiddo can hunt for Pterodactyls, wooly mammoths, and saber-toothed tigers as they venture through the jungle of your living room!
Let the wild rumpus begin with DIY dino feet
- Have your child decorate two large, empty tissue boxes with crayons, paint, stickers, glitter, etc. If they’re old enough, have them cut six small triangles from colorful construction paper and then glue or tape three triangles along one of the shorter ends of each box to make front claws.
- Once finished, have them slip their feet inside the tissue boxes and try out their new dino kicks!

But at the junction of the Cretaceous and Tertiary periods, there were not only tough guys on the planet, but no guys at all and no people; and there were only multi-ton lizards. And although any such animal would be quite capable of defeating a dozen Bruce Willis in a fair fight, there was no one among them who could save the planet from a real disaster. What happened then – scientists still haven’t figured out exactly, because the tyrannosaurs and triceratops did not guess to write down their misadventures, and there is no one to remember them for a long time.
However, whatever happened then, this “something” put an end to a great period in the history of the development of our Earth – the era of dinosaurs. And now we can only rely on the rigorous research of scientists and the latest technology to find out: what were they, the creatures that inhabited the planet in ancient times? And if after watching “Jurassic Park” the idea that giants can be revived in nature scares rather than attracts, then the desire to look at them with at least one eye still does not disappear! Fortunately, the modern world provides us with many opportunities to do this without dangerous genetic experiments: for example, popular science films and computer games. Dinosaurs in virtual space are completely safe – but that doesn’t mean they’re less fun to watch!

Of course, we cannot travel back in time and see the mighty lizards alive. But today’s science knows so much about these incredible creatures that nothing can stop us from mentally transporting ourselves to that era and having plenty of fun in the company of huge lizards.
When people first found the skeleton of such a large reptile, they were very frightened. This is not surprising, because if we assume at least a small probability that such animals still roam among us, then walking into the forest immediately becomes somehow scary – and not because of the wolves. That is why they called the unknown creature a dinosaur, which means “terrible lizard” in translation.
However, contrary to popular notions and the exaggerations that sci-fi films and games about dinosaurs are so guilty of, only a few of these lizards were dangerous.
Firstly, most of them were not predators at all. After all, in the Mesozoic era, when reptiles dominated among animals, in the plant world, giant ferns were also in the lead in the same way. And when we say “giant”, we mean really huge plants! Imagine a fern the height of a ten-story building – impressive scale? So, this would not be the largest sample. These huge plants formed entire forests, and therefore dinosaurs always had enough plant food, which, unlike animals, did not have to be chased and spent time and effort on it.
Secondly, due to their huge body size, they were rather slow. The heroes of the game about dinosaurs are nimble lizards the size of Godzilla, which are very difficult to fight. In fact, the larger the creature, the slower the signals of the nervous system propagate through its body! Between the moment when the idea to move the tail came to the reptile’s brain and the movement itself, a noticeable period of time passed (for the largest ones – up to 2 seconds!) – about the same as the reaction to mouse actions slows down in a freezing computer.
And finally, lizards are not distinguished by outstanding intelligence. You could easily defeat any of them not by force, but by cunning!
