The latest addition to his endorsement stable is Sorare—he will be an investor in an ambassador for the NFT fantasy sports platform.

Like fellow global megastars LeBron James and Stephen Curry, Mbappé launched his own production company. In June, he signed with WME Sports and started Zebra Valley to make scripted, non-scripted and animated content. Zebra’s focus is on sports, music, art, technology and gaming. Shortly after the launch, the avid basketball fan signed a multiyear content creation deal with the NBA for Zebra.

The top of the soccer world has been dominated on and off the field for 15 years by a pair of global icons in Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Together, they have racked up 12 player-of-the-year awards, while their respective clubs dueled for league and European titles. It has been lucrative work for the two stars, who have both banked more than $1 billion in salary and endorsements during their long careers.

But with Ronaldo, 37, and Messi, 35, on the backside of their playing days, a new idol has emerged to capture the attention of the world’s most popular sport, and he is now getting paid like it. Kylian Mbappé is the game’s highest-paid soccer player after signing a blockbuster contract extension this summer that should net him at least $125 million from salary and sponsors during the 2022-23 season.

“They changed the way people approach the game,” Mbappé told The Wall Street Journal in a profile published last week in reference to Ronaldo and Messi. “I think that’s why their rivalry obsessed so many people. They don’t see soccer the same way. They don’t see life the same way. And they went at it tooth and nail for more than a decade—for me, that was my entire childhood.”

In 2017, Paris Saint-Germain bet on the then-18-year-old forward with a massive €180 million ($215 million) transfer fee to secure his rights from Monaco. His profile soared the following year when he helped France win the World Cup and became just the second teenager, after Pelé, to score in a World Cup final. He has been the top goal scorer in France’s Ligue 1 the past four seasons, and after flirting with a move to Real Madrid for nearly a year, Mbappé re-signed with PSG through 2025 in May.

Mbappé’s potential PSG departure hit the highest reaches of the nation, with French President Emmanuel Macron intervening. “He told me: I don’t want you to leave now. For several years now, the issues of attracting and retaining staff have been the hottest and most discussed. Demand for personnel clearly outstrips supply. The statistics are also frustrating: since 1994, the population of Ukraine has been decreasing for various reasons, primarily due to a drop in the birth rate. As a result, there are fewer labor resources on the market, and in the very coming years we will feel the result of peak 1998-2000 with the lowest birth rate.

The migration trend complicates the situation: visa-free travel has opened up opportunities for our citizens not only to travel, but also to work abroad.

At the same time, the dairy industry is a different story. The average age here is 45 years. These factories were built back in 1973, and the experience of many workers is a serious baggage of 25-35 years or more. Almost their entire life – from youth to maturity – passes with one company. This is a serious experience, both life and production. In recent years, we have successfully diluted this established friendly team with “young blood” – students who come for internships. Each person has their own set of significant factors.

The tasks that are set are important, as well as the culture of the company and its values. 4. By what percent did you raise wages for workers and office workers last year?

PepsiCo in Ukraine is a strategic investor who is interested in the development of its staff and long-term relationships based on trust and satisfaction. Every year in our company there is a planned increase in salaries and bonuses for employees based on the annual results of work.

As a rule, we allocate a basic increase percentage, which is the same for all categories of employees. For example, last year the base increase was 11%. Then, based on internal and external analytics: the level of payment for specific positions in the market, the difficulty in recruiting and retaining staff by position, by location, we set an additional percentage increase for certain categories of employees. These may be targeted increases, or they may be massive.

Last year, about 95% of employees received additional increases of over 11%. For some, the overall increase in the end for the year was 15%, for someone 30-35%. For professionals and managers, the base percentage increase is also adjusted to reflect their assessment of their annual performance.

5. Over the past few years in Ukraine, we have seen the migration of workers to Poland. Can a Ukrainian employer today compete with a Polish one in the amount of the offered salary?

Mass – not yet. Although this creates tougher competition in the Ukrainian labor market and conditions for wage growth, not all companies in Ukraine can still compete with the level of wages in Poland. But I think that in the next 2-3 years the situation will improve a little, Ukrainian companies will simply have no other choice.

Many companies have already developed a payment formula for themselves: “Polish level of pay for the position minus 200 euros”, which a person spends on food, accommodation and other expenses.

Thus, companies expect that it will become unprofitable to travel to Poland, especially considering the distance from the family and the loss of work experience in Ukraine. What else can we compete with is precisely the creation of conditions within the company that are comfortable, flexible, with a culture of recognition and the possibility of growth.

6. The younger generation is not interested in working with their hands now, how do you see business development in the next decade? Perhaps you are considering full automation of production?

Speaking of the future, we are always talking about the growth of technology, automation and robotics. Do you know the phrase of the famous science fiction writer William Gibson: “The future has already arrived, it’s just not evenly distributed yet”? Somewhere there are already robots that replace dentists, can perform simple operations and fill teeth, somewhere there are robots that replace sports commentators and can write a review of a sports match in such a way that you can’t distinguish it from an author’s letter.
