“Nice park – shade and a water fountain”

July 2017

Acacia park is part of any trip to the center. Once you’ve walked up and down Tejon Street, the park is a good place to sit in the shade and have a cold drink or a sandwich from one of the nearby restaurants. We entered the Acacia park to hide some rocks, which we hope someone can then write to 719rocks. The park had a lovely typical summer crowd in it and there was plenty to do in the park. We went to the game area. They have huge chess, win four, coffee shop hole and several other games that you can play for free while you are in the park. In the same building there is a police substation common room, and the police have worked hard to keep the park devoid of the homeless and others who sometimes hang around in groups. There is a Fountain called Uncle Wilber’s Fountain that is in the Wave Zone for children of all ages. It’s like a simple fountain until suddenly the musical starts and the fountain is opened to show all kinds of bright surprises. When it’s very hot outside, the fountain serves as a place to cool off. This park was designated for the city in 1871, and it is still a very important part of the city center. There is a bandshell that has shows on several weekends. In general, this is a very good city park. nine0003

I’m not from here so I found this kind of ‘adorbs’ park. I found it a nice little place to relax, have a coffee, grab a sandwich, take a break from the shops

Homeless park

Aug. 2019 • Family Fun

My young kids and I were looking for a splash pad to cool off in. Google sent us to Acacia. There were at least 30 homeless people in the park and two of them were interacting with me and the kids. Most of the benches were around the fountain that could double as a splash pad. The fountain was off when we arrived (May-Sept it’s only on Noon-6pm). So we went to their little playground which smelled like smoke despite the park being smoke free area. nine0159 A group of four homeless people had their heass under a large blanket doing something they didn’t want other to see (I’ll just let you take a guess).
We left shortly after we arrived and left our time on the parking meter still running.

Homeless park

Apr. 2019 • With friends

This a nice piece of green space in the middle of downtown, but it’s full of homeless people on every bench and occupying the grass. City of Colorado Springs needs to do their part for the homeless and pan handlers. The side walks in downtown and nearby parks have enough homeless loitering that its very uncomfortable after daylight hours. It smells like urine and doesn’t do the local businesses any justice. Sorry to see it. nine0003

This could be a beautiful park. It has trees and grassy areas to picnic but few tables and tables are mostly taken by the homeless. Uncle Wilber’s Fountain is a really cool place but this park does not feel safe to me. Sad! nine0003

…. it seems a lot of trouble has been gone to with this park and the general downtown area. There is a lot of nice public art. However, pretty much whereever you go you there are people hanging around and this made us feel uncomfortable. YMMV

Could be nicer!

June 2018 • Traveling alone

The summer brings the fountain which the kids can enjoy! The park’s layout is pleasant and treed, lots of grass for a picnic. nine0159 Sometimes, there is an arts and crafts market or other activities during the weekend.
Sadly, the homeless people linger around in groups, are sleeping there or are asking you for money. If that doesn’t bother you, then never mind it.

      get into the Olympic spirit

      June 2016 • With friends

the tour starts with a film about the centre. beautiful shots of athletes, stories about equipment, after which you understand that sport has long been about technology. and then – a passage through the territory (it is large, it is a former military base). we were in the shooting pavilion, the gymnasium, we saw the pool, in the wrestling hall. We didn’t see athletes’ training, but it was still interesting. however, the ticket in my opinion is a little expensive – 12 dollars for an adult. nine0003

A visit to the Loimpi team training center is only possible with a guide. Groups form quickly. When we were in the center, it was raining with lightning, so the tour was shortened. Not everywhere is safe to be. And so I remember curious facts from the training of athletes – how many kg they lift per year, how much they eat, and so on. nine0003

      Fascinating tour

      June 2015 • Business

The National Olympic Center is a huge sports complex where athletes and candidates for the Olympic team train. At the entrance there is a small exposition of the achievements of the Olympic movement and a shop selling branded souvenirs (by the way, you can pay only with a Visa card, since this system is a sponsor of the Olympic movement). According to the schedule, groups of visitors gather, who are led around the center and talk about how athletes train, how they live. Excursions are obviously carried out by the athletes themselves and by the way, the tour is free. Before entering, you can take pictures in the “Olympic rings”. nine0003

Very interesting and it was an interesting tour

      July 2017 • Family fun

Film in the lobby while waiting for the tour is quite impressive and will make you a little emotional because of videos of the latest Olympians overcoming challenges, winning competitions, etc. You get a tour of several training center locations (Gym, Repair Gym, Gymnastics District, Basketball Gym, Air Rifle Training District, Swimming Pool and Wrestling Gym) . Not sure if they do other areas besides those, but you might want to try calling for more information if you’re looking for some sports. We didn’t see very many athletes training, but it depends on their service schedule, which I think . Many places on the tour are just views from the outside, so you’ll see them through the glass. There are only a few (gymnastics, wrestling mats, basketball area of the gym) that you won’t be behind glass. Small children don’t seem to be as interested in this tour as adults, so keep that in mind if you plan to bring small children with you. It’s a fairly long tour (45 minutes to an hour I guess?) but it’s fairly easy (we had at least one person in a wheelchair who had no issues with any of the areas to visit) , and tour, I moved at a good pace. nine0003

Unfortunately, we did not see the athletes preparing. Our guide was very attentive and even told us that the day we arrived, Sunday, was the worst day to take a tour!
