90,000 US Lawyer Salary – Top 10 Legal Jobs 90,001 90,002 2019-12-09 90,003 90,002 The field of law is as broad as it is varied, so is the income that comes with it. As you might expect, state government lawyers earn significantly less than their private sector counterparts.

According to 2014 PayScale.com data, the median annual salary for lawyers in the United States is $75,803.

Use a currency converter to convert to the equivalent of a monetary unit that you understand, for example, to the Russian ruble

This article breaks down the numbers by specialty to give you a general idea of what lawyers practicing in various fields can expect.

1. US CORPORATE LAWYER – SALARY

The primary role of corporate lawyers is to ensure the legality of a company’s transactions. These lawyers act as corporate advisers on a range of issues, such as collecting and analyzing evidence for litigation, drafting contracts, advising companies on their legal rights and obligations in business transactions, and providing tax advice.

Such broad job requirements mean that corporate lawyers must specialize in many different aspects of the law. Major specialties that fall under corporate law include tax law, contract law, accounting law, and securities law. Therefore, a major challenge for many corporate lawyers is understanding how these various aspects of the law relate to the companies that employ them.

Starting salary

In most cases, a corporate lawyer salary will start somewhere between $30,000 and $100,000 per year, depending on the employer’s size, location, and financial condition. The best graduates from the best law schools can look forward to much higher salaries and lucrative careers right out of the box if they have the right skill set and perform well during their internship. The Forbes website lists several top-notch programs, such as Columbia Law School, whose graduates can expect an average starting salary of $165,000.

Other institutions that produce the best in this field include Stanford University, the University of Chicago, Harvard University, and the University of Virginia. However, most US law graduates will have to settle for more modest salaries even if they land a job in the relatively lucrative corporate law field.

Average salary

According to PayScale, the average annual salary of a corporate lawyer in 2014 was 9$8,823. Corporate lawyers are paid for their knowledge and experience, which greatly influences salaries. Lawyers who find their niche in corporate law and stay with the same company can expect their salaries to increase every year.

As a general rule, in-house business lawyers are paid less than lawyers hired by large law firms, which charge exorbitant fees. This is somewhat of a generalization, and while it is true that the highest earners in the legal field tend to be partners in large law firms, for the most part, in-house lawyers are not worse off financially than their peers.

2. US PATENT LAWYER – SALARY

In short, patent attorneys are tasked with evaluating and analyzing whether an invention is eligible for a patent or not. They guide and advise individual private inventors as well as corporations that are in the process of obtaining a patent. Once a patent is granted, patent attorneys protect patents in case of infringement. Some of the tasks of a patent attorney include describing inventions in clear and undeniable legal terms, researching and evaluating existing patents, and litigating infringement cases in court.

Patent lawyers are also highly trained in various aspects of intellectual property rights and advise clients and employers on related matters such as design and trademarks. In 2014, the average annual salary for patent attorneys was $129,500, according to PayScale.com. The salary of a patent lawyer depends on several factors, including the industry they work in, the size of the company they work for, the number of years they have worked in the field, and their level of education. A patent lawyer usually requires a very specialized skill set, which often includes further education in related fields such as engineering or biology.

3. CRIMINAL ATTORNEY’S SALARY IN US

A criminal defense attorney’s job description includes defending individuals, organizations, and companies facing criminal charges in state, federal, or appeals courts. Some of the main responsibilities of a criminal defense attorney are to investigate the case at hand, interview witnesses, study case law and procedural law, build a defense, and plan a strategy for a given case. Negotiating pleas in less serious cases is also within the purview of a criminal defense lawyer.

It is essential for a criminal defense attorney to have excellent written and oral defense skills in order to successfully argue a case before a judge and jury. Creative thinking and analytical skills also play an important role in the process of strategizing and investigating complex legal cases.

Criminal lawyers in the public service earn significantly less than their counterparts in the private sector. As shown in the chart below, the average public defender salary of $51,810 is well below the average salary in this field. An employee practicing criminal law at a large law firm can earn up to $115,000 in the first year, giving them a much better career option.

4. US TAX LAWYER – SALARY

Tax attorneys act as representatives of a company, organization, or individual in dealing with federal, state, and local tax authorities. On a daily basis, most tax lawyers advise businesses and individuals on all aspects of tax law. They monitor any changes in legislation and advise their clients on the possible consequences of such changes for their finances. The practice of tax law requires excellent mathematical and accounting skills, analytical thinking and the ability to think critically.

As shown below, the average annual salary for tax attorneys in 2014 was $99,690. The starting salary is usually between $55,000 and $83,000; lawyers who remain in the field of tax law can expect a steady increase in their annual earnings as they advance through the ranks.

5. US REAL ESTATE ATTORNEY

Real estate lawyers assist their clients in a variety of ways in relation to commercial and residential real estate. Matters relating to tenants, neighbors, zoning and development are also subject to real estate law.

Real estate transactions involve a significant amount of complex legal paperwork, which is why most real estate lawyers spend quite a lot of time in the office reviewing and drafting contracts and other documents and preparing advice for their clients. Careful drafting of documents is a key skill in this job. Attention to detail and strong analytical skills are an absolute must for real estate lawyers who want to excel in this field.

Real estate lawyers also represent their clients in court. A typical property law case may involve a property owner who sues a tenant for unpaid rent. Real estate lawyers file court documents, gather evidence to support a claim, and interview witnesses to make sure their client has a strong case.

The median annual salary for real estate lawyers in 2014 was approximately $90,125, according to PayScale.com. Highly skilled contract negotiators tend to make the most money in real estate law, however experience and location also affect these lawyers’ earning potential.

6. US FAMILY LAWYER – SALARY

Family law is a broad field. Family law attorneys may be involved with custody, adoption, prenuptial agreements, and divorce. Many lawyers in this field choose to specialize, becoming experts in one area or another. For example, divorce lawyers work with clients to end a marriage and help them determine how best to divide common property. Other areas of specialization include child support, child custody and domestic violence.

The average annual salary for a family lawyer, according to PayScale.com, is $70,828. In family law, the degree of specialization and experience of a lawyer is closely related to compensation. Experienced family lawyers in the private sector are the best in this group and have higher earning potential than their counterparts in the public sector.

7. PERSONAL INJURY ATTORNEY IN USA – SALARY

Personal injury lawyers work with clients who claim they have suffered physical or psychological harm as a result of the negligence or wrongdoing of another party. In the event of an accident or injury, personal injury attorneys represent their clients for justice and compensation for any loss or suffering. The vast majority of these cases fall under tort law.

To help clients recover any financial loss, pain, and suffering they have experienced due to negligence, personal injury attorneys interview clients, evaluate their case, and identify and investigate specific issues in the plaintiff’s case. If a plaintiff brings a claim that results in bodily injury or mental distress, it falls under the category of personal injury law. Road traffic accidents, work-related injuries and “slips and falls” are the most common cases in this area.

The average annual salary for a personal injury attorney is about $73,000. Many attorneys in this field do not have a set annual income as they work for incidental expenses. This means that they receive a percentage of any compensation the claimant receives. As in most cases, lawyers working for non-profit organizations or the government tend to earn the least while their counterparts in large law firms are in better financial shape.

8. US CIVIL LAWYER’S SALARY

Civil rights lawyers defend the civil rights and fundamental freedoms of the community. A typical civil rights case may involve the defense of a person who faces discrimination based on race, age, sex, or religion. Cases involving alleged misconduct by law enforcement are also subject to civil rights law.

Civil rights cases sometimes include claims based on false arrests, excessive force or cruelty, and illegal searches and arrests. Many of the cases concern issues of human rights, social freedom and equality. Lawyers who specialize in this area are often passionate about seeking justice for a particular group of people or a particular issue. For this reason, many civil rights lawyers specialize in a specific area of civil rights.

Civil rights lawyers generally earn less than lawyers who choose a career in business areas such as corporate law. The average starting salary for a civil rights attorney is approximately $45,000 per year, but highly capable and experienced civil rights attorneys can earn up to $200,000. The best workers tend to work in federal government agencies. Lawyers working for the federal government earn an average of $130,210, as opposed to state government lawyers who earn a more modest average of $82 19$0 per year.

9. IP LAWYER IN USA – SALARY

Intellectual property law is a complex field that requires a deep understanding of the relevant laws in addition to creative and analytical thinking. Intellectual property or copyright lawyers ensure that new intellectual inventions and innovations created by individuals enjoy the protection of the law and are not infringed by competitors.

IP lawyers may specialize in areas such as music, art, design, technology, or writing. Intellectual property is considered the most valuable type of property for many corporations and organizations. Therefore, the protection of new developments in technology, science and art is a top priority for many companies, creating a significant need for IP lawyers who specialize in these areas.

According to PayScale.com, IP attorneys typically earn an average salary of $131,728.

Technically, “medical law” is not a separate category of law, but rather a combination of injuries, medical malpractice and public health law. Some medical attorneys work in hospitals and healthcare facilities, providing advice and guidance regarding their rights and responsibilities, and also defending them in cases of medical malpractice. Others specialize in representing clients who want to sue medical institutions or individual healthcare professionals.

According to Glassdoor.com, medical attorneys and lawyers earn an average annual salary of $150,881; Medical lawyers who work in specialized hospitals usually earn even more.
