First Learning Center — First Moore Baptist Church

First Learning Center is committed to the physical, mental, social, emotional and spiritual growth of each child. We strive to develop their confidence and self-worth, preparing them for successful entry into kindergarten. We will model God’s love and teach foundational Biblical truths to each child. We will provide a safe, sanitary, and positive environment for our students to learn and grow in the love of Christ.

WHAT WE OFFER

FLC offers classes for infants 6 weeks old through Kindergarten. Our tuition schedule is below.

For babies to four-year old preschool we offer classes Tuesday, Thursday & Friday. You have an option for your child to attend one, two, or all three days.

School hours are 9:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. We follow the Moore Public School calendar. All classes teach daily Bible stories and use Frog Street Curriculum which is theme-based to, letters, numbers, arts & crafts, outdoor play, & centers. music & kid-fit. Special Activity Days are scattered throughout the year. Children perform a Christmas and spring program.

WHAT TO BRING

Children are asked to bring a cold lunch and change of clothes to school every day. These items should be labeled with their name and in their backpacks. A light jacket is suggested most days. Two and under have a scheduled nap time and need a nap mat, blanket and security item. *Please note: Because of limited space, items cannot be stored at FLC.

Each time you come to the nursery area, please bring a diaper bag that is clearly labeled with your child’s name and contains the items listed below.

Please make sure you clearly label ALL belongings with your child’s name.

An ample supply of diapers
Diaper cream or ointment (if needed)
Bottles with formula (if your child is not breast-fed… if you are breast-feeding, a comfortable nursing room is provided in the room immediately north of the west elevator)
Lunch – ready to eat – we cannot heat any lunch items
An extra change of clothes
A pacifier if your child uses one
Any security items your child may need (blanket, stuffed animal, etc). Children age 2 and under will have a nap time: please send a nap mat and blanket.

We have 32 spots available and it is on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is a $75 non-refundable enrollment fee for each child. Children must turn five before September 1 to enroll. It’s a 3-day program –

Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from

9:45 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Tuition is $255 a month, due the first school day of each month from September to May.

Children will engage in Bible stories, play, crafts, curriculum. In addition, we offer music and kidfit twice a week. Once a week they will attend Chapel for music and Bible Story. We will work closely with Moore schools to achieve objectives and Report Card standards. Our curriculum is based off what kindergarten in Moore Public Schools are currently using. Our primary Kindergarten teachers are licensed and certified in the state of Oklahoma. We have two scheduled parent/teacher conferences during the school year.

The tornado season continues on the North American Great Plains: on Monday, May 20, a powerful tornado hit the city of Moore near Oklahoma City. The element completely destroyed entire sections of urban development. Dogs and horses took off into the air, as well as cars that crashed into the walls of buildings. The city lost its lighting and road signs, and the roads themselves were covered with various rubbish. Local mayor Glenn Lewis said that the entire Moore after the disaster looks like one big pile of rubble. Media reported that more than ninety people had died, at least twenty of them children. nine0003

Moore is a southern suburb of Oklahoma City, the capital of Oklahoma. This state is located just in Tornado Alley – a corridor from Texas to South Dakota, where in the spring, due to the collision of warm air masses from the Atlantic and cold Arctic air, numerous tornadoes are formed.

Moore tornado is not the first and probably not the last serious tornado of the season. On Sunday, May 19, another tornado hit the town of Shawnee, about 50 kilometers east of Moore, killing two elderly local residents. In total, over the past weekend in Oklahoma, tornadoes destroyed and damaged about three hundred houses, dozens of people were injured. nine0003

The tornado in Mura, according to eyewitnesses, did not look like an ordinary tornado: it moved like a solid wall up to two kilometers wide and swept away everything in its path. The National Weather Service tentatively assigned it an EF4 rating, which is four out of five on the Enhanced Fujita Scale. This category includes tornadoes, the speed of wind gusts at which reaches 267-322 kilometers per hour (74-89 meters per second).

Earlier on May 19In 1999, an even more powerful tornado hit the Oklahoma City area – it received an EF5 rating, property damage was estimated at $ 1.3 billion, and the death toll exceeded forty people. In terms of property damage, that tornado ranks third in US history, only the tornadoes that hit Joplin, Missouri and Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 2011 turned out to be more costly.

The amount of damage from the new tornado in Moore has not yet been calculated, but in terms of the number of victims in recent years, it is probably second only to the disaster in Joplin: 161 people died there. One of them, the Plaza Towers School, where seventy-five students and staff took refuge from the tornado, was in the path of the elements at the moment when the tornado gained maximum strength. The building was destroyed. At least seven children were killed by choking in the water that filled the basement of the building, about twenty more students remain under the rubble, they are reported missing. The second school, Briarwood, is also destroyed – its building remains standing, but huge holes gape in it. There are no reports of deaths in Briarwood, however. In addition to schools, the Moore Medical Center was severely affected. “Looks like we’ve been left without a hospital,” Mayor Lewis told reporters. “Some time ago I passed there, and it is practically destroyed.” nine0003

Most likely, the number of victims in Mura would have been much higher if the National Weather Service’s Storm Warning Center had not notified residents of an impending disaster 16 minutes before the arrival of the tornado. According to experts, 16 minutes is not a bad result, given that tornadoes are usually notified 8-10 minutes in advance. The tornado landed on the ground at about 15:00 local time (midnight Moscow time) southwest of Moore, near the city of Newcastle, and covered a distance of about thirty kilometers in 40 minutes. The search and rescue operations that began after that continued throughout the evening and did not stop even after sunset. nine0003

The tornado disrupted the power supply to about 38,000 consumers in various Oklahoma communities. The resulting debris blocked large sections of the Interregional Highway I-35, which connects Texas in the south with Minnesota in the north and runs through the Moore. State authorities on Monday had to ban travel on this highway. Air flights (with the exception of rescue flights) in the disaster area are also prohibited – the Federal Aviation Administration made the corresponding decision at the request of local authorities.
