Yulia Tokmakova, teacher of the year of the Republic of Tatarstan-2023, who works in Kazan kindergarten No. 101, I met during a river trip along the Volga. Dreaming of kindergarten

Yulia Anatolyevna came to work in kindergarten only 10 years ago. Prior to that, she built a career in a completely different field – she worked in one of the world’s largest retail chains selling furniture and household goods, and was the head of a department.

“I loved what I did, I made good money,” she says. – But at some point I began to ask questions: “Why do I devote so much time to work? Is this really my purpose? After listening to myself, I realized that I want to engage in pedagogy. At that time I already had three children, two of them were very young. And this also played a role, because I practically did not see them. The profession of an educator made it possible to correct the situation in the best possible way. Colleagues, of course, did not appreciate the act. They looked with sympathy, they say, what are you going to live on now ?!

But Julia was determined. As a teenager, she was very fond of the works of Makarenko, his ideas of humanism were close to her, she wanted to change the unfair attitude towards children, whose opinion was not taken into account in Soviet times. Moreover, in her hands she had a diploma of graduation from the Kazan Pedagogical School with a degree in primary school teacher.

– When, at the age of 15, my mother suggested that I go to study at the pedagogical school, I agreed. There were no teachers in the family, but a reverent attitude towards the teaching profession was laid in me, – Yulia explains. – I remember when I came to visit my granny, she always spoke with admiration about her teacher neighbor. Since then, it has been clearly deposited in the mind: the teacher is a respected person.

However, after college, the girl could not afford to work in her specialty, salaries at schools were meager, and by that time she had a family, a child was born …

Joy, not work

at the age of 35 it was not easy. I didn’t have to choose, Yulia got a job in the nearest kindergarten, where there was a vacancy. The manager then asked her: “Why are you sure that you will succeed?” “Well, how? After all, I have three children, and I think that I brought them up well, ”Yulia Anatolyevna firmly answered.

The new teacher was given a preparatory group, she quickly found a common language with the children, contact was made. But it was difficult to get used to everything else: the female team, the measured way of life, the poor material equipment of the educational institution. Julia did not get the job satisfaction she dreamed of. Enthusiasm melted away with each passing month, and, without completing the year, she decided to leave…

– One girl from my group, learning about this, cried a lot, – the teacher recalls. – Her eyes swollen from tears and the words spoken then turned my soul: “Why do all the people I love leave?”

After her dismissal, Yulia was not herself for a month, she tried herself in different areas, but nothing worked. After some time, she nevertheless returned to work in the same kindergarten, and this was already a balanced decision.

Soon everything got better, Yulia Tokmakova went to work in a preschool educational organization that specialized in Montessori pedagogy, underwent retraining, and new opportunities opened up in the profession.

“Today my work brings me such joy that I can’t even call what I do a job,” Yulia Anatolyevna says with a smile. – Rather, it is a club of interests, for visiting which I am also paid.

Pedagogical discovery

During the conversation, our conversation turned to the prestige of the teaching profession. “I see that respect for the work of a teacher, an educator is growing,” Yulia shared. – This is due to the fact that young parents have become more conscious about the upbringing of their children. They want to know about effective methods, successful practices, and if you are a professional in your field, you can guide, give useful advice, you will be respected and appreciated.”

According to her, one profile education that a teacher received 20 years ago is not enough today. It is important to constantly engage in self-education, to study. – This idea came from my experience in a large corporation, Yulia explains. – It was there that I realized how great it is to be able to manage my time, I learned this. But it is difficult for an adult to rebuild and change habits, it is much more reasonable from childhood to teach a child the right attitude to time and its organization. So why not kindergarten?
