AMERICA’S MOST ACCREDITED

We’re so proud!

Nationally only 10% of daycares are accredited – nearly 100% of our learning centers are. That’s a big difference,
and that means KinderCare kids are getting the very best. Here’s why.

SCHOOL-READY

What Learning Looks Like

Our talented early-childhood teachers set kids down the path toward becoming lifelong learners in a positive, safe, and nurturing environment.

Mary Alice O’Connor Family Center Programs

Infant Programs (6 weeks–1 year)

Leaving your baby in someone else’s care is a big step. Everyone at our
centers—most importantly, our naturally gifted infant teachers—will work with
you to make sure the transition goes smoothly. When you step into our infant
classroom, you’ll see how much we want your infant to feel safe, loved, and
ready to explore their world.

Toddler Programs (1–2 Years)

Everything in our toddler classroom is designed for little explorers. That’s
because a lot is going on at this age. When your child is wandering all over the
place, that means they’re learning and discovering new things every day. We’ll
help them explore their interests (and find new ones!) as they play and learn.

Discovery Preschool Programs (2–3 Years)

This age is filled with so much wonder and curiosity. That’s why we offer a ton
of books and toys and bring artwork down to kids eye level. Children in
discovery preschool also begin to learn how we all work together in a
classroom. Simple math and science, pretend play, and group play help them
get used to a more structured school setting.

Preschool Programs (3–4 Years)

This age is all about expression, when kids really start to form their own ideas
about what they want to play and how they want to create. Every day in our
preschool classroom, your child will explore science experiments, create
artwork, and play pretend—all the skills needed for their big next step:
kindergarten!

Prekindergarten Programs (4–5 Years)

When you walk into one of our pre-K classrooms, you’ll see artwork and
writing displayed around the room. Labels are everywhere to help kids connect
letters with words. You’ll also see pictures on the walls that reflect the families
in our community. Your child will also deepen their knowledge in language,
math, science, Spanish, and social skills.

School Break Programs (preschool, prekindergarten, and school-age)

Winter break, spring break, summer break—when school’s out (but you still need to work), you
can count on KinderCare to provide a safe and supportive learning environment that’s focused
on fun. We welcome children ages 5–12 during school break times and make sure they have a
sensational, screen-free experience they won’t forget.

Learning Adventures – Enrichment Program

Phonics Adventures® (2 – 4 Years)

Learning how to read is a whole lot of fun at KinderCare! We help kids grow to love
books and words (and get ready for kindergarten) in our Phonics Adventures program.
From discovering the basics of vowels to practicing poetry, kids learn all about letters
and sounds in small-group lessons made just for their age group. (Bonus: Kids who
attend our phonics program are more prepared than their peers for school—and we
have the data to prove it.)

STEM Innovators (3-8 Years)

You’ve probably heard a lot about how important STEM education is for your child, but
what does that really mean? Our STEM Innovators program takes kids’ natural ability to
make sense of the world and applies it to robotics, chemistry, coding, geology, and
more. While your child experiments, they’ll discover how to use technology to do
amazing things!

Handwriting, Mini Kickers Soccer, Kung Fu Moves

Our Teachers

We’re the only company in early childhood education to select teachers based on natural talent. Being a great educator isn’t enough though.
KinderCare teachers are also amazing listeners, nurturers, boo-boo fixers, and smile-makers. Put more simply,
we love our teachers and your child will, too.

Meet just a few of our amazing KinderCare teachers!

A KINDERCARE TEACHER WITH

An Artist’s Heart

“My classroom is full of art!” says Mary Annthipie-Bane, an award-winning early childhood educator at KinderCare. Art and creative expression, she says, help children discover who they really are.

We put our best-in-class teachers in a best-in-class workplace. We’re so proud to have been named one of Gallup’s 37 winners of the Great Workplace Award.
When you put great teachers in an engaging center, your children will experience
an amazing place to learn and grow.

Our teachers meet every child’s needs during naptime. Our teachers know how to get babies to nap. In fact, they are pros at getting children of any age to nap. Visit our article on “10 Ways We Help Kids Get a Great Daycare Nap” to learn more.

Do you support alternative diets?

We strive to be as inclusive as possible. To that point, we provide a vegetarian option at mealtime, take care to not serve common allergens and can adapt menus based on your child’s food sensitivities. If your child has additional needs, we’ll work with you to figure out a plan.

Are meals included in tuition? Can I choose to send my child with lunch?

We provide nutritious meals and snacks developed by a registered dietician to meet the needs of rapidly growing bodies and minds. If your child has special dietary requirements and you would prefer to bring in their lunch, please make arrangements with the center director.

Does my child need to be potty-trained?

Every child begins toilet learning at a different age. Until your child shows an interest in toilet learning, we’ll provide diaper changes on an as-needed basis. When your child shows an interest, we’ll discuss how to work together to encourage toilet learning.

Obituary: Mary Alice O’Connor – Los Angeles Times

DOWNTOWN — Mary Alice O’Connor, the former school board member and volunteer whose service began during World War II and grew into leadership positions in the Burbank Tournament of Roses, Friends of the Burbank Library and the Burbank Historical Society, died Saturday. She was 93.

Mary Alice O’Connor died peacefully at her home, according to her family. Dozens of well wishers visited in the days leading up to her passing, retelling stories about her life and the lessons they learned over the years.

“It made for an extraordinary surrounding. A wash of love, peacefulness and believing in yourself came over us all,” said her daughter, Joan Patricia “J.P.” O’Connor. “As much as we were there to comfort her in those days, we were also learning and comforting each other.”

Mary Alice O’Connor served on the Burbank Unified School District Board of Education from 1961 to 1971, and later was instrumental in reopening the Starlight Bowl in 1992. Throughout that time she sold tickets to the Hollywood Bowl, introducing children and teens to classical music as the first chairwoman of the Children’s Open House.

For decades, it seemed, nothing happened to service organizations without the guiding hand of Mary Alice O’Connor, regarded as the matriarch of local nonprofits and social organizations. J.P. O’Connor said that while “volunteer” is listed in labor codes as a job category, it is defined as “uncompensated worker.”

“Mom would disagree,” said J.P. O’Connor. “The compensation she’s gotten through all the years are so many wonderful friends and experiences.”

The mother-daughter duo were honored as Burbank’s Women of the Year in 2002 by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) along with eight other women from the district.

Mary Alice O’Connor continued to serve throughout the decade on boards of the Burbank Health Care Foundation and the Family Service Agency of Burbank, with memberships on the La Providencia Guild of Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, KCET Women’s Council, Civic Pride Committee, National Charity League Burbank Chapter and the Burbank YWCA.

Born in Berkeley, Mary Alice O’Connor attended girls’ schools in the Bay Area and Sacramento when her mother served as a special assistant to Gov. C.C. Young. Her interest in community involvement, education and business developed through conversations with friend Irving Martin, publisher of the Stockton Record.

He introduced her to movers and shakers in the state who met weekly at the Crystal Palace Hotel in San Francisco. The family moved to Los Angeles her senior year of high school when her father took a faculty appointment at Los Angeles City College. Mary Alice O’Connor enrolled at Hollywood High School, becoming president of the female students and creating a Shakespeare Garden.

After receiving her associate’s degree from Los Angeles City College, she held a series of jobs despite the challenges of the Great Depression and the start of World War II. They included stints at Douglas Ranch Camps, Pebble Beach forest near Del Monte Lodge and summer assignments at a camp newsletter.

She met A. Kendall O’Connor when he was invited for tea by her family. When he left she announced to the room that he would become her husband. She went on to marry the art director and layout man in 1944, and that February relocated with him to Burbank to be close to Walt Disney Co. headquarters.

The pair spent their honeymoon decorating and working side-by-side on photographs in the darkroom. With gas rations in full effect, he walked to work and she rode her bicycle to local stores.

Honored as a Walt Disney Legend, Kendall O’Connor contributed to more than 100 shorts and 15 feature films. His wife became the inspiration for the Fairy Godmother character in the animated Disney version of “Cinderella.”

Meanwhile, she also became the first woman on the boards of Burbank Community Hospital and Providence St. Joseph’s Medical Center, which was founded about the time she arrived in Burbank.

With the birth of her children, John and J.P., Mary Alice O’Connor began devoting more time to the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and parent-teacher associations, where she would log more than 16 years of service. She once said she preferred serving as vice president rather than president because it gave her more of an opportunity to plan programs and activities.

In 2006 she told the Burbank Leader that among her proudest contributions was resurrecting the Starlight Bowl, an idea she posed to City Manager Mary Alvord while working with the Burbank symphony. She was also recognized at the White House by President Ford as an outstanding volunteer.

“To be a volunteer, I find that you have so many great opportunities to do things — if you go about it graciously,” Mary Alice O’Connor told a standing-room-only crowd packed into City Council Chambers in honor of her volunteer career.

A year later, the long-awaited Mary Alice O’Connor Family Center began offering educational enrichment programs and child care for children between 6 weeks to 5 years old.

The center last year won accreditation by the National Assn. for the Education of Young Children. The center at 401 N. Buena Vista St. is operated by Children’s Creative Learning Center.

“Children and the youth of our community have always been a high priority for me and their safety, education and fulfillment are paramount,” Mary Alice O’Connor wrote to family.

“A Celebration of the Life and Lessons of Mary Alice O’Connor” is planned for 3 p.m. June 24 at the First Presbyterian Church of Burbank, 521 E. Olive Ave. The family requested that in lieu of flowers, tribute contributions in Mary Alice O’Connor’s name be made to the Family Service Agency of Burbank’s Walt Disney Art Therapy Program, or the American Cancer Society Burbank Relay for Life, attention: Mary Alice O’Connor’s team.

Guests are encouraged to dress in bright colors, befitting the honoree’s positive, determined spirit, J.P. O’Connor said.

[3] Upon his return, Moses commented, “A year ago there was talk of [my return]. And in Hollywood they often say. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t. I’m not really into “maybe” in this city because there are a lot of things that might not happen. But then last year they called my agent and said, “We’re really seriously thinking about [it]. ” And in the end they proposed and I was very pleased.” [4] After his character’s mystery ended in “And A Lot of Security…”, Moses left the main cast again and made his last appearance as part of the eighth and final season of the series.

      Story

      Season 1

In 1993 (as mentioned in season 1 episode 14 “Love is in the Air”), Paul helps Mary Alice get rid of Deirdre Taylor’s body after she accidentally killed her.

After Mary Alice’s suicide, her friends find a threatening note in her belongings and give it to Paul. He discovers his neighbor Martha Huber was responsible and confronts her, asking why she sent him; but Martha shows no remorse, saying, “Mary Alice was a terrible person.” This infuriates Paul and he kills her. Paul buries her body and tries to frame Mike Delfino. However, Martha’s sister, Felicia Tilman, recognizes Mary Alice, revealing that Paul and Mary Alice’s real names are Todd and Angela Forrest. She worked with Mary Alice in Utah and knows that they kidnapped Deirdre’s son, Dana Taylor, now known as Zach Young. The police find Deirdre’s remains and start asking questions. Susan Meyer suspects Paul of Martha’s murder, and Felicia threatens him with Martha’s diary if he doesn’t leave. She gives Paul copies of Martha’s diary and gives Mike the originals. Paul leaves, but Zach stays with Felicia. Felicia later asks Mike to kill Paul, knowing that Mike once had a relationship with Deirdre. Zach doesn’t want to stay with Felicia; and, when she tells him about Paul’s departure, he attacks her. Mike kidnaps Paul to leave the calcium mine, intending to kill him, but allows Paul after learning that he himself, not Paul, is Zach’s father. Mike leaves him and returns home.

      Season 2

Paul returns home and Mary Alice’s friends call the police on suspicion of Martha’s murder. However, Felicia was still determined to make Paul pay for her sister’s death. Felicia planned to inform Noah Taylor of Paul’s involvement in the murder of his daughter Deirdre, hoping that Noah would take justice into his own hands. However, her plan backfired when Zack Young blackmailed Noah into sparing Paul. She returned to Wisteria Lane and terrorized Paul. After being attacked by Paul in front of witnesses, she took her chance and faked her own murder by cutting off two of her fingers, resulting in Paul being arrested and subsequently abandoned by Zach after he inherited his grandfather’s fortune and realized that Paul is responsible for Martha. death.

      Season 3

In the third season, Paul became a guest when Mike met him in jail. Paul, whom Mike has no memory of, tells Mike that he believes him when he says he is innocent, but pays two inmates to attack him so he can save him and gain his trust. Paul wanted a favor from Mike: ask his biological son (and Paul’s adopted son) Zach to visit Paul in prison. Zach agrees to visit Paul, but refuses to help him find Felicia, who is in hiding.

      Season 6

In I Think It’s Goodbye, Paul returns to Wisteria Lane in the final moments of season six in a black Lincoln Town Car renting Susan and Mike’s house. When Lee McDermott tells him about what good neighbors are in Wisteria Lane, Paul replies, “Oh, I know the area very well. The truth is, I used to live here.” Lee says everyone would be happy to see him back. Paul says, “Quite right.”

      Season 7

Sex is the center of this season’s mystery. He was released from prison after Felicia was pulled over for speeding and her deception was discovered. Paul was released and received a large monetary settlement for his wrongful imprisonment. His return to the alley is surprised by the neighbors, who feel guilty for not believing him. He visits Felicia in prison, confirming her suspicions that he killed her sister. He tells Lee that he wants to buy his old house and appears to be intent on buying the other houses on Lane, threatening Mrs. McCluskey and blackmailing Susan to convince Mike to sell their house after finding out about her work online. Mary Alice’s narration states that Paul’s plan is to turn the residents of Wisteria Lane against each other and “it will work”.

Paul reports that he married a woman named Beth while he was in prison. However, Beth seems unsure about what is with Paul now that he is free, admitting that she doesn’t want to share their bed since she is a virgin. They eventually consummate their marriage, but Beth worries about Paul’s secrets. When Paul’s former cellmate moves into the alley, Beth blackmails him into revealing Paul’s plan. She confronts him, saying she knows, but supports him, stating that she understands the desire for revenge. What Paul doesn’t know is that Beth is Felicia’s daughter helping her mother in her plan to get revenge on Paul.

In “A Nice Little Kingdom”, the residents of Wisteria Alley see a sign saying that a halfway house for ex-prisoners will be placed next door. At a neighborhood meeting to stop this plan, Paul reveals that he has bought several houses in the neighborhood and intends to buy more in order to control a vote on whether the facility should be placed there. Paul claims that he wants the other inmates to experience the warmth that a neighborhood like this offers that could keep them from returning to prison. In fact, he seems to enjoy watching the neighbors quarrel. He tells everyone that he has enough houses to open his center and that the mayor will give him a special award for this. In “Down the Block Riot”, Lynette Scavo organizes a protest with the help of neighboring communities, but it escalates into a riot, causing mass clashes and destruction in the alley. Paul always knew this was going to happen and he planned it. When Lynette tells him it’s all his fault, Paul asks her, “What makes them better than a bunch of ex-cons?” Paul is walking down an alleyway at night celebrating his triumph and is shot dead by an unknown assailant.

When questioned by detectives at the hospital, Paul is stunned to learn that Beth is Felicia’s daughter, but hides it, insisting that he and Felicia are on good terms. While performing his discharge from the hospital, Paul plans to run away with Beth to the cabin, implying that he plans to kill her there. Before leaving, the detectives return to show the gun they suspect was used to shoot Paul. Paul recognizes it as the gun with which Mary Alice killed herself, but remains silent. He cancels the trip and looks at Zach’s photo, realizing that his son is somehow involved.

Paul tries to track down Zack, discovering that the young man has lost his fortune. Paul goes to Mike, stating that he thinks Zach shot him and wants to see him. Mike finds Zach at a seedy motel where the boy is doing drugs, confessing to shooting Paul. Mike tells Paul where Zach is, saying that whatever Paul plans to do can’t be worse than what Zach does to himself, and they confront Zach. In The Farewell Letter, Paul, upset about his meeting with Zach, asks Beth why she brought the gun to his house. Beth insists it was only for protection and asks Paul to get away from all of his recent problems. He tells her that betrayal means it’s impossible for life to be good again.drug rehab Zach blames Paul for all of his life’s problems, including Mary Alice’s suicide. He tells Paul that he’s evil and that no one can ever love him. This prompts Paul to say Beth that he knows about her true identity, and even though she asks for forgiveness and tells him that she really loves him, kick her out of his house, telling her that no one can ever love him.Beth tries to get revenge on Paul, not counting the fight nothing serious.Paul believes this is part of Felicia’s game, to which Beth replies that she no longer believes her mother’s claims that Paul killed her aunt.Paul then reveals that he did indeed kill Martha, horrifying Beth.At the end episode Beth commits suicide in the hospital, just like Mary Alice did twelve years ago.

Paul is shocked by Beth’s suicide, and because she is brain dead but on life support, he refuses to let her go and give Susan her kidney. Felicia meets Paul in jail, telling him that Beth genuinely loves him and that their feud cost them both the lives of someone special. Paul tells Susan that he is turning off Beth’s life support and allowing Susan to take the kidney. When Susan tells him how sorry she is, Paul bursts into tears. Felicia is released from prison and decides to take revenge on Paul. They go to the lake to scatter Beth’s ashes, Paul brings a gun with him for protection. Felicia takes it from him and holds it on him, but then throws it away, saying that they should let go of the hate. They scatter the ashes, but they are revealed to be fakes, Felicia kept the real ones and promised a more satisfying revenge on Paul.

Felicia kidnaps Paul and hooks him up with a drop of antifreeze and holding a syringe of potassium chloride, threatening to kill him instantly if he screams when she removes the duct tape. Felicia says she wants him to repent for killing Martha, but Paul confesses, unaware that Felicia’s video is all taped. Susan, who comes home and wants to surprise M.J. Delfino, putting his favorite things in his room, walks in on Felicia and tricks her into leaving after calling the cops. Felicia returns and tries to kill Susan with a potassium chloride syringe, but Paul breaks free and strangles Felicia in the same way he killed Martha, but Susan talks him out of it. Felicia escapes and dies when her car is hit by a truck. Paul decides that if he ever wants to redeem himself, he must atone for killing Martha. He confesses to the police about Martha’s murder and is arrested.

      Season 8

In the second episode of season 8 “Connected”, Bree Van de Kamp visits Paul in jail, prompted by a threatening note she received, identical to the one sent by Mary Alice Young in the pilot that led to her suicide. Paul denies knowing about the note or who might have sent it, angry that she suspected him of using his first wife’s suicide. He then advises her not to keep it to herself, suggesting that if Mary Alice had told her friends her secret as she had originally planned, she might not have killed herself. Later, Paul calls Bree when he remembers the name of the police officer he confessed to about Mary Alice and Martha’s letter the night of his arrest: Chuck Vance. 9 Griffiths, John (September 20, 2010). “Review: ‘Desperate Housewives'”. The Huntress’ Trap read online by Maureen Child (Page 6 )

“To teach you a lesson,” Emma explained, running her hands over Connor’s cheeks and down the man’s shoulders. She liked to feel the hardness of his muscles. “To prove to you that my profession as a mechanic does not in the least deprive me of my femininity.

Connor, who had studied Emma for a few moments, burst into a hoarse guttural laugh.

“You proved it the best, Em,” he admitted, still smiling and placing a kiss on the girl’s lips.

      Are you crazy?

      — Probably. Grabbing Emma with both arms, Connor rolled onto his back.

      – I repeat. You lost the bet.

      – Looks like it.

      – I outsmarted you.

      – You did a great job.

Emma tried to protest, but Connor was already thrusting into her with a firm movement. The familiar trembling again embraced the body of the girl. Looking at Connor, she searched in vain for signs of anger or annoyance in his expression. Nothing like this. He didn’t seem to mind losing the bet in the slightest, and he didn’t seem to think he’d been cheated.

And in general, now this man looked like an insatiable beast that attacked the victim.

“But money, Connor,” Emma persisted. “You were supposed to share them with Aiden.

Large male palms covered her breasts, stroking, caressing, pinching her electrified nipples to the limit.

      — Do you really think that I am currently worried about losing?

Emma looked at Connor in bewilderment.

      – Do you have any regrets?

      Shaking his head, he replied:

“I have nothing to be sorry about, Em. Especially when you’re next to me. And besides, damn it, can the happiness that fell to me be considered a loss?

Emma shrugged, her golden hair flying around.

      — You are probably right.

Connor’s hips began to move, and the girl felt like a rider riding a wild mustang. Every inch of her body trembled in anticipation of pleasure.

But before giving herself over completely to the crazy ride, Emma wanted to clarify one important point for her.

“Connor, where will this lead us?”

He froze, staring intently into her face. His hands rested on the girl’s thighs, squeezing them tightly.

      — Why should this lead us somewhere? Connor’s voice was very quiet, and Emma could barely make out the words, drowned out by the drumming of her own heart. “Are we going to turn one night of amazing sex into something more?”

The girl tried to ignore the slight disappointment caused by Connor’s answer. After all, she herself was afraid of the development of any serious relationship. Once she already believed in love, and this turned into the greatest drama of her life.

So Emma’s plan was to spend a single night with Connor. No continuation. Serious romance is excluded.

“We’ll say goodbye soon,” Emma said softly, bending over and taking Connor deeper into herself. Her body shuddered from the unprecedented acuity of sensations. Having regained the power of speech, the girl said:

      – One night, right? We will enjoy it, and then everything will return to normal.

Even in the dark, Emma could see Connor’s eyes sparkle. Taking a deep breath, he nodded.

      – We will remain friends.

“True friends,” Emma confirmed, surrendering to the smooth rhythm that lifted them both to the pinnacle of pleasure.

Watching Emma move gracefully, Connor forgot everything in the world. There was only this happy moment stretched out in time. How can you think about the future now? And was it worth it to regret the lost bet, if in your arms an amazing woman sobs with happiness, bringing you to a state of complete ecstasy?

Long blond hair swept over the girl’s shoulders and lay on her chest. Her erect nipples peeking through her golden strands tempted Connor over and over again. Emma’s beauty surpassed all his expectations. He was shocked.

The elastic female body held him with its velvety grip, making him forget about time and space. With a stifled groan, Connor fought down the urge to surrender immediately to the wave of overwhelming pleasure. He wanted to delay the onset of the climax, to prolong those magical caresses, to remember every second spent in Emma’s bedroom.

It’s better not to think about tomorrow. Yes, he confesses his loss to his brothers. Yes, Emma will remain his friend. After all, there is nothing more valuable in the world than true friendship. However, the night they were lovers will forever remain in their memory. And Connor wanted to enjoy every moment of the night.

The girl moaned with pleasure. Holding her hips tightly, Connor quickened his pace. Emma took off, slightly moving away from his body, and again fell down.

Connor felt the sweet moment approaching more and more clearly. He breathed with great difficulty. Something like a short circuit hit his brain. For the first time in his life, a man’s body was so electrified by desire.

All he wanted now was to explode at the same time as Emma, drag her into the abyss with him. His hand touched the most sensitive point of the girl’s body.

“Oh, Connor…” she moaned, writhing with passion.

He skillfully guided Emma to the peak of pleasure, and the girl moved faster and faster.

As her body shattered into many pieces, Connor exploded at the same time as her.

“I’m out of the game,” Connor announced as he sat down at a table at the Light House restaurant, cringing involuntarily under the gazes of the Riley brothers fixed on him.

He didn’t think it would be so hard to admit defeat. Even after the best moments of my life.

      — You’re joking, aren’t you? Aiden, who was sitting next to him, elbowed Connor with a cheerful smile.

      — No. I am not kidding. I’m really out of the game. So prepare me a woman’s outfit.

      — Wow! With a shout of glee, Aiden waved at the waitress. Then, turning to the brothers, he announced:

      – Now I am treating everyone. In connection with my victory.

“Hey,” Connor chuckled, “just because I fell out of the race like Brian, that doesn’t make you a winner.”

“He’s right,” Brian confirmed. We are out of the game. But it is not known whether you will be able to hold out for three months without sex? There are still six more weeks to go.

“The prize will go to me,” Aiden countered imperturbably. “I’ll show you how to keep your word.”

“Well done,” Liam sounded sarcastic. “That’s what it is—complete self-confidence.

“Absolute,” Aiden boasted. Connor sighed and smiled absently at the waitress, who was lowering sweaty mugs of beer onto the table. He took a sip, enjoying the cold drink.

Because with every memory of the recent night spent in Emma’s bedroom, Connor’s body temperature rose steadily.

“Attention,” Liem broke the silence, “do we have the right to find out who she is?”

Connor looked up from his mug of beer. Three pairs of eyes looked at him expectantly. Hell. Most recently, sitting in this very place, he made fun of Brian, who admitted defeat! And now…

“This is Emma Jacobsen,” Connor said firmly.

      – Owner of a car repair shop? Aiden’s voice betrayed unreasonable surprise.

A spark of inexplicable irritation flared up somewhere inside Connor. Turning his head and looking at his brother with narrowed eyes, he sharply asked:

“What do you dislike about Emma? Did she do something bad to you?

Aiden raised his hands in confusion.

      — No, not at all. I’m just a little freaked out. Okay, calm down brother.

“You’ve become too touchy,” Brian remarked.

      Connor glared at him.

“Emma is a very attractive girl,” Liem intervened.

The twins unanimously turned their heads in his direction. He shrugged nonchalantly.

      – I find Emma quite nice and pleasant. In addition, she is an excellent mechanic. Did a great job repairing my car.

Brian winked mischievously at his older brother.

      — Have you by any chance forgotten that you are a priest?

      – I didn’t forget. But I am a living person, especially a man. Shaking his head, Liam turned his gaze back to Connor. “So you and Emma are together now?”

Sudden terror seized Connor. He leaned back in his chair, as if trying to move away from the question that frightened him.

      — Together? How to say. Emma and I are…just friends.

“Very close friends,” Aiden added with a laugh.

“Best friends,” Brian raised his mug in a welcoming gesture.

“A new type of friendship,” Liem said thoughtfully.

Connor looked at his older brother with hostility. Thoughts of possible changes in his relationship with Emma already drove him to despair.

Her friendship was very important to him. And at the same time, he was afraid that the night spent with Emma would drag him into the network of marriage.

“Whatever you think,” Connor grumbled, “forget your assumptions. I’m not going to marry like poor Brian.

“Hey,” said Brian. “I did it, by the way, completely voluntarily. Do not think that I accidentally fell into a trap and now I am desperately trying to escape from it.

“I didn’t say that,” Connor explained. “I just want to say that marriage is not for me.

Indeed, the idea of marriage always seemed absurd to him. Connor did not want to depend on anyone, change his own habits, his own tastes.

He liked to live just the way he lived. One woman replaced another in an endless succession, and this diversity did not tire him.

As for Emma… She’s wonderful, but she couldn’t be the only one.

Waving to Brian, Connor turned to his brother priest:

      — Liam, even if I went to bed with Emma, there is not and cannot be anything serious between us.

“I don’t think so,” Aiden remarked as he munched on another batch of chips. “You sacrificed ten thousand dollars for her.

Connor rubbed his face. At that moment, he regretted that he was not born the only child in the family.

      – It was just sex.

Are you sure? Liam asked calmly.

      – Of course. Raising the mug to his lips, Connor took a long sip.

The brothers continued the conversation, in which he no longer took part. Drowned in obsessive thoughts.

      CHAPTER NINE

“Mrs. Harrison,” Emma began, pacing her office with a telephone in hand. “I have a very good offer for you regarding your car.

There was a sigh on the other end of the line, and then a voice with a soft southern accent said:

      — Emma, my dear, I know this sounds strange to you, but I really can’t part with my son’s car. He loved her so much.

      — Especially, Mrs. Harrison. Emma sat on the corner of the table, looking out the window at the street. – If your son valued the Corvette so much, he would be very pleased to see his car in excellent condition driving around the streets of the city now.

“But…” The old woman thought for a moment.

Emma continued to look out the window.

Despite the evening time, the traffic flow did not weaken, filling the moist air with its rumble. Numerous tourists were walking along the sidewalks. Children had fun on roller skates accompanied by loudly barking dogs.

An ordinary summer evening in Baywater.

Why did the girl think everything was new, not like the old one?

Yes. It wasn’t the town that changed, it was herself.

Sighing, Emma once again told herself to forget what had happened between her and Connor. But it wasn’t easy. After all, last night for many hours in a row they made love, unable to tear themselves away from each other. Connor stayed in her bedroom until dawn and left only with the first light of dawn.

But why did an incomprehensible, oppressive feeling settle in Emma’s soul?

After everything that happened, she and Connor vowed to remain friends. Is it bad? Isn’t that what Emma wanted? But … she can no longer do without his caresses. But how to combine friendship and sex?

The situation became more and more confused and complicated.

“Honey,” Mrs. Harrison’s voice pulled Emma out of her painful thoughts. — I can’t lose the car that once belonged to my son…

Emma sighed. The words of the old lady did not come as a surprise. She called Mrs. Harrison every month, hoping to persuade her to part with her old Corvette. Sonny Harrison, her son, alas, you will not return. He passed away many years ago. His mother didn’t drive. But Emma could completely restore it.

“I understand you perfectly,” said the girl. It is very difficult to cut off the last connection with the past. Emma remembered how long she suffered from her breakup with Tony DeMarco. Mrs Harrison, however, has a different situation. However, many have to put up with the blows of fate. “Please excuse me for disturbing you. I hope you are not offended.

      – Not at all, dear. Call more often… After hanging up, Emma smiled sadly. She got the impression that the elderly woman was deliberately delaying the sale of the car – mainly out of fear of losing these same calls. Loneliness is a terrible thing.

      And Emma’s phone didn’t stop.

      — Hello. Jacobsen’s auto repair shop.

      — You promised to tell me the latest news.

      – Mary Alice?

      — Who else?

Emma settled herself comfortably in her chair.

      — I was just about to call you.

“Fresh legend,” the friend grinned. Well, I’m hungry for details. Beautiful man Connor Riley, I hope you’re doing well?

      – You see…

      – It must be a long story.

“You have no idea…” Emma struggled for words. After the magical night with Connor, it was hard for her to concentrate.

      – So, tell me.

      – Where to start? Emma asked her friend.

The noisy breathing of Mary Alice, who was two thousand miles from Baywater, was heard in the receiver.

      — Listen, stop pretending.

      — Connor turned out to be an amazing lover. Yes. His inexhaustible energy amazed Emma.

I got such a man. Stop. What are the thoughts? Was Connor completely hers already? What a twist. Mary Alice on the other end of the line was speechless.

I got the gift of speech only after a few moments.

“Wait a minute,” Mary asked. “I’ll pour myself a glass of wine so I can fully enjoy your story. ” And don’t you dare miss a single detail.

Emma laughed as she mentally thanked her friend for the call, which sounded just right.

Connor deliberately stayed away from the Jacobsen garage.

All day he told himself that he was doing this for his own good. For the sake of them and Emma for the common good. After all, they should remain friends.

Ironically, it was this woman who ignited him with the fire of violent desire. But this fact meant absolutely nothing. The main thing is to forget that night, taking a few days of respite. And so their friendship will last.

However, Connor could no longer live apart from Emma. Returning to his room after dinner with his brothers, in the middle of the way he sharply turned the car around and headed for the girl’s house.

The dark windows had a depressing effect on Connor. The man took the sight of an empty house as a sign of intervention from above. From now on, fate itself would not let him near Emma. But he really wanted to see her.

Connor went to the auto repair shop.

He remembered that over the past two years he had often stayed here until late, helping Emma with her work or just passing the evening with friendly conversation. Surprisingly, it was only now that Connor realized how much time he spent with Emma. And now it turned out that, except for her workshop, he did not want to go anywhere.

Unbeknownst to Connor, this girl has become an integral part of his life. And how sweetly they chatted. He proudly reported to her about the successes in the service, they laughed together at Aiden’s regular jokes, solved some common problems.

And it turned out that Emma became more than just a friend to him.

      Best friend.

However, now the situation has changed. Connor groaned, grinding his teeth. He kept thinking about Emma’s naked body. I couldn’t even drive safely.

Red traffic light. A car full of jolly teenagers pulled up next to Connor. The girls laughed, teasing their friends who were trying to impress their friends. Music was coming from the open windows of the car. They are good. Connor smiled sadly. Apparently no problem. He envied them.

Surely soon they will disperse in pairs. After all, these summer nights called for passionate kisses and slow walks in the moonlight. They promised something more.

      Hell, Connor wanted more too.

      And only with Emma.

“You’re in bad shape, boy,” he muttered sullenly as he steered the car toward the auto repair shop. White-knuckled fingers gripped the steering wheel tightly.

All day he avoided approaching the auto repair shop and suffered all day. Connor thought about Emma almost every second. But maybe the upcoming meeting with her will destroy the witchcraft obsession?

Connor Riley cheered up a little at the thought. Gripping the steering wheel even tighter, he continued talking to himself:

      – Emma is a friend. So go to her. Ask the accumulated questions. Come on boy, don’t be shy.

Pulling to a stop in the parking lot of the auto repair shop, he saw the following: the main entrance door seemed to be closed, but the crescent-shaped windows on either side of it glowed with a subdued frosted light.

Turning off the engine, Connor hesitated. But suddenly, the desperate faces of recruits surfaced in my memory a few minutes before the first training attack. Connor left the car immediately.

He walked towards fate, like a soldier on a combat mission.

His fingers rested on the handle of the office door. It turned out to be unlocked. Connor stepped in and carefully turned the latch behind him. What the hell is Emma thinking about, working alone at night with the door open for anyone to get in? Connor’s hands clenched into fists at the thought of bullies and robbers. The man was not even reassured by the fact that Baywater was considered a town of exemplary law and order. All the same, for some time now, Connor had been worried about Emma – after all, she lived alone.

Straightening his shoulders, he crossed the threshold of the office and opened the next door leading to the garage. A wave of hot air washed over him. Yes, it’s stuffy in here. Fans could not cope with the July heat. Music was playing in the garage. Classic rock and roll.

Emma, singing along, did not seem to notice the presence of a friend who had suddenly appeared.

He froze in a strip of shadow, admiring the girl.

Apparently she didn’t really hear Connor’s footsteps – the radio was on full volume.

The girl’s hips moved to the beat of the music, and her ponytail hair swayed in the same rhythm. Emma managed to dance in place, while her deft hands conjured over the parts of the carburetor laid out on the working shelf.

Connor smiled as she took the tongs and brought them to her lips like a microphone and sang a line from the famous song. The words were dedicated to love and separation.

The man looked at Emma as if spellbound.

      How beautiful she is!

Even in oil-stained gray work clothes!

Take it easy, Connor told himself. We are friends.

He rubbed his face with his fingers, catching his breath with difficulty. The desire to rush to Emma, to take her in his arms and immediately possess her grew. Every cell in Connor’s body trembled with excitement.

Yes, he acted recklessly when he came to the workshop.

But now to leave here seemed tantamount to death.

Making a sharp turn at the last chords of the melody, Emma finally noticed Connor. The girl froze in amazement, pressing her hands to her chest.

      – Connor! – she exclaimed. Then, reaching out her hand, she lowered the volume of the radio to the limit. “God, how did you scare me!”

      – Sorry. I did not want.

      – Next time shout something as you approach.

      — For example?

Read “The Plaything of Destiny” – Mary Deheim – Page 2

“Oh, Morgan,” Nan said, wide-eyed, “you’re not going to have that kind of talk in court, are you?”

Morgan pulled her feet out of the water too, but she didn’t feel like putting on her shoes yet. The grass was so soft and fresh, and she suddenly thought that it would be a very, very long time before she could walk barefoot again.

“Of course not,” Morgan reassured her cousin. “It is here that we are accustomed to freely express our thoughts. Besides, Uncle Thomas is not a direct relative of ours.

“But his influence won’t hurt you,” Nan insisted. Morgan didn’t answer, lost in her own thoughts. “I assume you’re not afraid of meeting Sean O’Connor?”

This remark provoked an instant reaction from Morgan. Turning abruptly to her cousin, she asked:

“Sean? Why are you talking about him?

      Nan playfully bounced off Morgan:

      – Because you’ve been crazy about him since last spring, when he stayed with us on his way to London. For six months she kept saying: “Really, Sean is handsome? And what blue eyes Sean has! Doesn’t Sean have adorable freckles?”

      – Oh you! Morgan threw her shoes at her cousin, missed and was horrified to see that they plopped into the water and sank. Nan burst out laughing, and Morgan rushed to her, but the long-legged Nan was more agile. Running away, she turned the corner of the house at the end of the alley and was like that.

However, Nan told the truth. Sean O’Connor, a student of the great court painter Hans Holbein Jr., did indeed have blue eyes, charming freckles, wavy dark hair, and a smile that could melt ice. Morgan has known Sean all her life; a distant relative of her father, Sean traveled at least once a year with his family from Armagh for weddings, christenings, funerals and other events that united the Irish and English branches of the family.

But until this spring, when Sean stayed with them on his way to London, Morgan did not realize that she felt more than just kindred feelings for the young Irishman. He kissed her tenderly, and she thought she loved him. And of course he loves her. And the upcoming date with Sean worried her no less than the splendor and splendor of the royal court. It suddenly occurred to her that the animal feelings of Bess and Madden had nothing to do with true love. For heaven’s sake, Morgan thought, true love is meaningful exchange of glances around the table, hands joining under the starry sky, tender kisses under the shade of rose bushes. That was exactly how Sean O’Connor made her feel, and it had nothing to do with what was going on between Bess and the Madden twins. Inspired by her own arguments, in anticipation of the upcoming meeting, she cast aside all doubts and fears about her debut at court and headed down the avenue leading into the depths of the garden. She almost physically felt the touch of Sean’s lips, felt his embrace. Morgan was then seventeen, and some might say she was too old for a first kiss, but Fox Hall was away from the big light, and her peers appeared here quite rarely. And on these occasions Lady Alys and Aunt Margaret never took their eyes off the girls.

Morgan paused to pick a lilac blossom and wondered sadly how soon she would be able to admire the blooming garden, the old castle, again when she got back to Fox Hall. Every stone here, every leaf and every blade of grass was incredibly expensive, because it was here that Morgan was born. Lady Alice liked the name Elizabeth, but Sir Edmund Todd intended to name her daughter Jane, after his mother. Neither spouse was willing to give in, and Lady Alys eventually offered a compromise:

      – Well, since there are so many Elizabeths and Janes in the world, and I really love my in-laws, Morgan Williams in particular, why not …

      Sir Edmund fumed:

      – Name the daughter Morgan? Do you want her to grow up to be a witch like Morgana?

“Hardly,” Lady Alice burst out laughing, “if only because Morgan Williams is a man and certainly not a sorcerer! But the name is unusual.

With this Sir Edmund had to agree:

      – Besides, Morgan Williams is the only decent relative of these Cromwells, for that alone one should respect him.

“My poor sister didn’t think of marrying Cromwell,” Lady Alys admitted, and immediately added triumphantly, “Besides, her name is Jane.

Sir Edmund chuckled and decided that Morgan might not be a very provocative name for a girl. However, the baby did not look quite usual, which was noticeable even in infancy. Her eyes were not just blue, but slightly green and gold; hair is a cross between dark and light, facial features are regular, but too sharp – this is how the artist sometimes tries to shade especially expressive fragments.

In the course of time, the girl turned into a girl with luxurious hair and huge topaz eyes. And although Morgan herself never considered herself pretty, relatives and friends noted her extraordinary beauty, more internal than external.

Morgan had no siblings. For some unknown reason, Lady Alice did not give birth to another child, and Morgan became friends with her cousin Nan. And yet it was a happy serene time.

When Morgan was twelve, she visited London with her parents. And she was awed by the hustle and bustle, the multitude of people, the splendid mansions on the Strand! She did not see the king and his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, but the sight of Whitehall and St. James’s Palace shocked her.

And now she has to live in London at court. Catherine is no longer queen: Henry left her for Anne Boleyn. It is difficult to imagine another woman in the place of the queen. She was the king’s wife long before Morgan was born. And it was absolutely impossible to imagine Anne Boleyn on the throne. Morgan’s parents did not approve of either the new ruler or the king’s break with the Roman church, caused by this vicious, in their opinion, union.

But Morgan did not think about politics or religion, thoughtfully wandering along the shore of the pond. The cloud of discontent that had clouded her peace dissipated. Sean was waiting for her in London; the yard was waiting for her; it seemed that the whole world was looking forward to her appearance.

A nearby scream interrupted Morgan’s dreams. A cat, an owl – is it really a person? Morgan tried to determine where the sound had come from. Perhaps from the side of the dovecote or the stables. Probably one of the servants got hurt. The cry was repeated, and this time it seemed to be in the depths of the garden, and it was clearly the cry of an animal. Picking up her skirts, Morgan rushed down the alley ahead. There, not far from the road, she noticed Gambit, an old collie dog, a family pet. The dog was obviously in pain, and nearby a gentleman in travel clothes was trying to help the unfortunate animal. Morgan slowed down, looked closely, but could not recognize the savior. However, Gambit, showing no signs of anxiety, completely trusted the man.

The stranger looked from under thick eyebrows at the approaching girl.

“Thorn,” he said in a deep, husky voice. Gray eyes flashed at the same time, and it became clear that the man was quite young, perhaps twenty-five years old. Gambit gave a brief grateful bark, licked the man’s hand, and trotted off towards the house.

“How kind of you,” Morgan smiled.

      – Of course. A mischievous smile flickered in his gray eyes.
