Preschool — Marietta FUMC

Meri Kate Marcum

First United Methodist Church of Marietta’s Weekday Ministry Preschool and Kindergarten has been serving young children and their families for over 60 years. We believe children should:

  • Experience the unconditional love of Jesus Christ through our actions and words

  • Engage age-appropriate learning experiences to foster physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual development

  • See their church, school and parents as a team to support them as they grow into their fullest potential

Our Preschool Program

Our dedicated and well-trained staff live into God’s call to serve God’s children and want each child to enjoy the learning process and know they are loved.

Classes are for children age 1 by September 1 of the current school year.

Our teacher-generated curriculum provides opportunities to foster growth and development and equip our students with the necessary skills, confidence and independence to succeed in “big school.

Our Preschool

The Preschool uses a Christian based curriculum which incorporates monthly themes to teach age appropriate skills with lots of fun hands-on activities, manipulatives, and games.

We use Zoo-phonics and various types of curriculum methodologies and teaching methods to teach phonics to the three to five year olds.

The daily schedule includes art, music, circle time, learning center activities, snack and outdoor or indoor large muscle play time.

Due West’s Kindergarten is a Christian, half-day program. The small class size allows children to be taught on their individual levels. Whole group, small group and learning centers are used to teach math, writing, reading, science, social studies, English skills and Bible lessons. KinderCurriculum is used for phonics, and common core standards are used to guide age appropriate unit studies. Along with this, children go to music, chapel, science, and other special classes during the week.

Good upbringing reliably protects a person from those who are badly brought up.

F. Chesterfield.

About me

“My heart told me to be an educator!”

I did not choose a profession.

Working with children is my destiny!

I wouldn’t expect another life.

A child is a unique world,

Rapid pace of modern life.

Paves new paths. And you need to react instantly.

To keep up with the times.

Dozens, hundreds of new technologies.

The flow of the most important information, secrets and nuances of psychology –

I need to know all this “by heart”.

Books that shaped my inner world

From the Russian classics in the first place A. S. Pushkin, M.Yu. Lermontov, N.A. Nekrasov, M. Gorky, L.N. Tolstoy. From modern: A.I. Solzhenitsyn, V.P. Astafiev, V.G. Rasputin.

My view of the world

The world around – only a reflection of our perception and our thoughts. What we see, perceive, evaluate, is largely determined by our view of the World and our attitude towards it.

I will share with you one very wise parable about the worldview. One day the teacher told his student to go into this room and try to see all the brown things. The student easily named all brown objects. Then the teacher asked: “Now remember, the blue objects that were in the room.” The student, to his surprise, could not name a single object.

Of course, there were blue objects in the room, but the student tried to see and remember only brown objects. We see in our lives what we are trying to see, what we are used to seeing. And it has everything! In my opinion, in order to live well, you just need to try to look at the world through a good mood, through kindness, love, compassion and sympathy.

“Change yourself and change the world!” Learn to enjoy the little things. After all, they make up a big one.

My portfolio

My work in kindergarten is the second “half” of my life, addition to the first – my family. There is a wonderful expression: “A happy person is one who goes to work with joy in the morning, and returns home with joy in the evening.” My pedagogical activity, my formation as a person, is inextricably linked with the work in kindergarten. My children are so different, but so unique – they mean more to me than the dry word “pupil”. Sometimes these children brought up, understood, encouraged me no less than I did them as a teacher. Thanks to my work, I became a teacher. Therefore, thinking about what my work means to me, I answer – it is a part of me, my heart, my thoughts, emotions and feelings. My pupils, my playful, mischievous, sometimes naughty children, are the dearest and most beloved in the world. Children are loved, after all, not because they are good, but because they are yours, relatives, that they simply are.
