Map Academy is an alternative charter high school founded on the belief that every student – no matter what their life circumstances – has unique strengths and the ability to succeed. Our students are survivors. Most have been forced to navigate challenges beyond their years. Here, they get the chance they deserve to overcome barriers and re-engage with their education. Map Academy is the alternative these students need to write the next chapter of their story – one that is not defined by challenges, but instead by what it takes to succeed in spite of them. Students leave Map with plans for the future and the skills to achieve them.
We believe:
- There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all education.
- School should not ignore the realities in students’ lives that may hold them back from academic progress.
- All students can succeed with the right resources and support, even those who have struggled in the past.
- Diversity and inclusion are the power that drives innovation and are critical elements of our community.
- Learning does not start and stop when bells ring.
- All students can achieve at high levels and should be held to high standards.
- School is about learning, exploring, and achieving, not ranking, complying, and competing.

Evening school
It is not always possible for a person to get a general education in time. But you can return to school and combine it with work or other studies. For this, there are evening (shift) schools.

Who attends night school
These schools accept students over 15 years of age. Most often, grades 10–11 are taught in the evenings, but there are educational organizations that work with both primary and secondary levels.
How to study at night school
Classes in shift schools are held in the evenings and, as a rule, not every day. According to the law, educational organizations themselves can determine the mode of study and set lessons in the evening. This should be fixed in the local acts of the evening general education school.
Evening education is not an independent form of education. Students are in the contingent of the school in full-time, part-time or part-time education.
Most night schools are free. Graduates pass the Unified State Examination on a general basis and receive the same certificates of secondary general education as other students.

Family Education
Family Education (CO) is a form of education in which a general education program is mastered without attending a traditional school. 1 to 9class education outside of school is called family education, and in grades 10-11 and for people over 15 years old – self-education.
There is no upper age limit for family education. Even an adult working person can use the form of self-education. However, it is important to understand that, unlike the evening school, the responsibility for the educational process lies with the student himself. It is necessary to master the material on your own or with the help of tutors and online schools. So, in the “Foxford Externat” you can study the school curriculum from grades 1 to 11. In addition to the basic courses required to successfully pass the assessments, you can take additional courses to prepare for admission to a college or university.
The transition to family education occurs at the request of the parents or with their consent, if we are talking about a teenager from 15 to 18 years old. An adult citizen can switch to self-education on their own.

Mastering the general education program in the form of family education must be confirmed with the help of intermediate attestations. To pass them, you must attach to an accredited school and obtain the status of an external student.
In the USSR, external studies were one of the forms of education for “working youth and adults.” Now it is a form of certification for family education and self-education.
