Audubon Park
Audubon Park, named after artist and naturalist John James Audubon, is ideal for families with children. It is known for its ancient oaks, cozy gazebos and picturesque lagoons. Here you can have a picnic, walk along the shady alleys, play golf on the Audubon Trail, go cycling or rollerblading. Many New Orleans residents consider Audubon Park to be one of the best wedding venues.

Other Activities
We have a few more activities for the whole family to complete your entertainment program in New Orleans. You will surely enjoy a river cruise on a paddle steamer, a trip behind the scenes of the Mardi Gras carnival and immersion in the world of New Orleans jazz.

Riverboat CITY of NEW ORLEANS
In the 19th century, large paddle steamers plied the waters of the Mississippi River. The famous writer Mark Twain once served on one of them. You will also have the opportunity to take a trip down the Great River on the Riverboat CITY of NEW ORLEANS cruise ship. It is the successor to the legendary Natchez, one of only two authentic paddle steamers left in the United States. While sailing, you will enjoy stunning views of New Orleans, learn a lot of interesting facts about its history, listen to jazz and try traditional Creole cuisine.

Mardi Gras World
New Orleans hosts the massive Mardi Gras festival from early January until about mid-February. Hundreds of thousands of tourists come to the city to take part in parades and carnivals, catch colorful beads and cut the royal cake. But even if you didn’t manage to come to NOLA during Mardi Gras, you can still plunge into the festive atmosphere by visiting Mardi Gras World.
One of the most unusual museums in New Orleans is located on the banks of the Mississippi River, next to the New Orleans Morial Convention Center. Here, in huge hangars-warehouses, there are platforms that drive through the streets of the city during the holiday, as well as costumes, masks, life-size puppets and other carnival paraphernalia. Children will learn about the history and traditions of Mardi Gras, see how props are made, and get to try on costumes and masks. At the end of the tour, young visitors are treated to a royal cake.

JAMNOLA
JAMNOLA is an experiential social media-focused experiential space dedicated to the art, music, food and culture of New Orleans. It includes 12 interactive installations created by local artists. Incredible exhibits are inspired by Mardi Gras traditions, jazz musicians, famous New Orleans seafood and alligators. During an exciting tour, you will walk through the cultural gems of NOLA, try on carnival costumes and take many unusual photos.

Preservation Hall
If you want to hear some of the best New Orleans jazz with your kids, head to Preservation Hall, a historic concert hall located in the heart of the French Quarter. Every evening there are 45-minute concerts for the public of all ages. The event is very popular, so it is better to reserve seats in advance so as not to waste time waiting in lines. For a small tip, the musicians will perform the melody of your choice. In the Preservation Hall store you can buy vinyl records and CDs with the most popular compositions.

Children’s Food
Due to the abundance of condiments and hot sauces, the traditional Creole dishes New Orleans is famous for are not very suitable for children . Fortunately, there are many cafes and restaurants in the city that offer a special children’s menu. In the French Quarter, you can easily find establishments that serve European or American cuisine, as well as street food loved by all children – pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, french fries, chicken or fish fingers.
Most likely, gumbo soup, jambalaya or charcoal grilled oysters will not appeal to little gourmets. But there are several traditional dishes that no child will surely refuse. Be sure to try the Po-boy sandwiches with meat or seafood, round moufuletta sandwiches, pecan pralines and king cake. And, of course, you can’t come to New Orleans and not eat the famous beignets at Café du Monde.

Café du Monde
Cafe Du Monde, located in the French Quarter, has become one of New Orleans’ most popular attractions. According to gourmets, the best beignets in the city are served here – square French donuts generously sprinkled with powdered sugar. They can be ordered with chocolate milk, hot chocolate or orange juice. While the kids are enjoying the dessert, adults can try the famous dark roast coffee with chicory.

Café Beignet
Café Beignet serves equally delicious beignets. This is a great place to have a meal with the whole family. The cafe owners decided to combine New Orleans and French culinary traditions in their menu. In the establishments located on Royal Street, Bourbon Street, Canal Street and Decatur Street, you can order not only donuts, but also sandwiches, Belgian waffles, toast, scrambled eggs, mufuletta, jumbo and jambalaya. Drinks include coffee, cappuccino, latte, espresso, americano, hot chocolate, orange juice, chocolate milk, iced tea and lemonade.

Creole Creamery
Traditional American Café Creole Creamery makes ice cream and sorbets daily with fresh, local ingredients. The restaurant’s menu is amazing with a variety of tastes. If you are a fan of the classics, order strawberry, chocolate or vanilla ice cream. And if you want something exotic, try Creole cream cheese, lavender honey, Thai basil with coconut, or peanut butter fudge pie. The menu changes and is supplemented every season, so visitors to the cafe are always in for pleasant surprises.

New Orleans Snowball
Snowball is one of the most popular street desserts in New Orleans. This is ice chips, which is served with various additives and sweet syrups. The delicacy was first prepared back in the 1930s, and now it can compete with ice cream in terms of popularity and variety of tastes. From spring to late summer, snowballs can be bought at kiosks and shops throughout the city. The most popular places where this dessert is prepared are Hansen’s Sno-Bliz, Cafe Porche and Snowbar, Sno-La Snowballs.

What you need to know about traveling with children in New Orleans
Those who plan to travel to New Orleans with children are advised to look for a hotel in the French Quarter, Central Business District, Garden District, Lakeview or Arts district. These areas are absolutely safe and are constantly patrolled by the police. In addition, settling here, you can quickly get to the main attractions of the city.
If you don’t plan to travel around New Orleans, don’t rent a car. Traffic jams constantly occur on narrow streets, and parking in the center can be a problem. All interesting places can be reached on foot or by public transport. In addition, riding on the historical NOLA trams is one of the most interesting activities for children. Be sure to take the whole family on the oldest tram line in the world, St. Charles Street Car Line. Children under the age of 5 do not pay for public transport.
Always carry mosquito repellent with you when walking. The swamps surrounding New Orleans provide an excellent breeding ground for these insects. It is also recommended to take a raincoat – the weather in the city is unstable, so during the day it can suddenly rain.
