My family came from another Day Care that we were unhappy with. Everything was fine at first and they really catered to what we wanted for our daughter. We were very happy with the toddler room on 9th street until recently. There have been numerous incidents of my daughter being bitten by 2 other children. The first time the center handled it very well, moving the other child into another room without hesitation. We really didn’t even have to ask how it was being handled.
With the 2nd child, and the most recent bites, they didn’t do anything; only requesting to meet with us. The solutions they finally offered included removing my child to another building and changing her situation which was not suitable for her needs. Any other solution they offered felt like a punishment to us, or something we would have to wait on when an immediate solution was obviously necessary since this was a frequent occurance. My daughter did nothing to provoke these bites. It is a shame the biter remains an…

Any other solution they offered felt like a punishment to us, or something we would have to wait on when an immediate solution was obviously necessary since this was a frequent occurance. My daughter did nothing to provoke these bites. It is a shame the biter remains and we are left struggling.
Of course we pulled her as we were worried for her well being. The second to last bite broke the skin and was not treated with first aid at all. It was left uncovered for the entire day. We returned after a 4 day weekend and the same toddler had bitten her again.
While we understand toddlers bite, these bites have left dark bruises each time, and have broken the skin. They have also been by the same two children on several occassions. It is without question that an immediate solution should have been offered. Especially considering these toddlers have bitten and even scratched both children and workers in the day care, and on numerous occassions!
I am very saddened by this experience and am struggling with looking for another day care. I hope both the families of the biters and the center seek out professional help instead of just “googling what to do”.”

Kindergarten

1933 – France (100 min)

Mfr. Jean Benoist-Levy

? Dir. JEAN BENOIS-LEVI and MARIE EPSTEYN

Scene. Jean Benoît-Levy, Marie Epstein based on the novel of the same name by Leon Frappier

· Oper. Georges Asslin

Mus. Edouard Flamen

Cast Madeleine Renault (Rose), Mady Berry (Madame Paulin), Henri Deben (Dr. Libois), Edmond Van Dael (Paulin’s father), Alice Tissot (headmistress), Sylvette Fillacier (Madame Coeuré), Alex Bernard (head of the educational district), Paulette Elamber (Marie Coeuré).

Roz, a city girl abandoned by her fiancé, takes a modest position in a kindergarten in a poor area of Paris after her father’s death. She scolds, washes, dresses the children and soon becomes their friend. She is still a little clumsy and knocks over a bowl of water right on the trousers of the elementary school inspector, Dr. Libois, who already has a grudge against her, since she has taken the place of his protégé. The daughter of a prostitute, Marie Coeuré, becomes especially attached to Roz and gets jealous when she kisses other children. Marie’s mother runs away with her lover, and Roz takes the girl to her. One day, the head of the school district appears in the kindergarten – at this time, Marie talks to the children about the rabbit, after which they resolutely refuse to eat it. The head of the district is delighted with how humanistic feelings are instilled in children. He wants to praise the teacher. But Roz defiantly declares that she is fulfilling a “higher calling” – babysitting. Dr. Libois’s attitude towards Rose gradually changes, and one day, at a celebration, he asks for her hand in marriage. Mari Koure thinks she has been abandoned and throws herself into the river, but she is saved. The couple will take her in. nine0003

? A very good adaptation of the excellent novel by Leon Frappier. The film is faithful to the original book and consists of countless details, built in a lively and energetic rhythm, which in itself frees the plot from any “black” sentimentality; its traces are visible only in the manner of Madeleine Renaud’s acting – not the strongest side of the film. The variety of details and characters also alienated the film from theatricality, forcing the authors to resort to short cuts: both of them are at odds with the usual and ossified features of most films of the 1st years of sound cinema. Some stylization in the plasticity of the actors also speaks of the desire to overcome too prosaic realism. The intonation series captures with its diversity: impudence is followed by pathos, then comedy. As for insolence, let us recall the dialogue between the inspector and the teacher. “As! Are you giving a child a cross? This is contrary to all the principles of modern pedagogy.” “Yes, monsieur. But the kids love it so much.” – “They need to learn to work not for a reward …” At this moment, the camera zooms in on the inspector’s jacket, decorated with the cross of the Legion of Honor. Kindergarten is also interesting because it links two periods in the history of French cinema: populism and poetic realism. As Raymond Chirat writes (Le cin?ma fran?ais des ann?es 30, Hatier, 1983), “populism gets rid of holiday ribbons and tinsel, looks with emotion at the hardships of the heroes of Kindergarten and embarks on a path that will gradually lead it to poetic realism, to social fantasy.

N.B. A rather successful remake of the same name by Henri Diaman-Berge (1949): this is perhaps the director’s best film in the sound period of his career. Blanchette Brunoy replaces Madeleine Renault. In the era of silent films, the 1st version was also filmed, directed by Gaston Rudes (1925) with France Delia as Rose.

Pastor’s widow

1920 – Sweden (1901 m)

Mfr. Svensk Filmindustri

Dir. CARL THEODOR DREYER

Scene. Carl Theodor Dreyer based on the story “Prestekonen” by Christopher Janson

· Op. Georg Schneevoigt

Cast Hildur Carlberg (Ms. Margarita), Einar Röd (Söfren), Grete Almroth (his fiancée Kari), Olaf Aukrust and Kurt Wehlin (candidates for the pastor), Emil Helsengreen and Mathilde Nielsen (servants). nine0003

Norway. Young Söfren claims to be a village pastor, but he faces an insoluble dilemma: in order to achieve his beloved Kari, he must become a pastor, but for this, according to local custom, he needs to marry the widow of the former pastor, who has already exceeded 70. Still they decide on this step and put the 4th wedding ring on the finger of Mrs. Margarita (since she has already buried 3 husbands). Söfren believes that Margarita bewitched him with spells. For example, at a drinking party, she slipped him a herring with magical powers instead of a snack. In order to settle Kari with him under the same roof, Söfren passes her off as his sister. He hopes that it is only necessary to be patient a little until the old woman passes away. In the meantime, while waiting, he endures the captious tyranny of Madame Margarita, cheerful and vigilant as ever; only with great difficulty does he sometimes manage to be alone with his beloved. One night, he dresses up as a devil and tries to scare his wife. But she didn’t see anything like that: she drives the devil out of the house with blows of a stick. By the will of Providence, Kari falls down the stairs. From that moment on, everything changes. Madame Margarita takes care of her with such attention and such care that Sefren is touched to the core and confesses to her his bad intentions. “Poor kids”, ? the old woman whispers, after which she lies down in bed and prepares for death. She dies, reconciled with herself, as well as Söfren and Kari, who have become her friends. “We owe her a lot,” the young man says to his beloved after the funeral. nine0003

? A strong and cheerful sketch of medieval life, with many facets and virtues. Mixing different intonations provides the plot with variety and subtlety. Humor and slyness, slyness, youthful playfulness, and after them – serious and calm poetry in turn saturate the narrative, where the characters change when they meet each other, and most importantly, when they encounter the Truth. Dreyer’s highest realism operates simultaneously on the visual level and on the mental and behavioral level. Scenery, costumes, carefully recreated ceremonies, primeval faces of actors, as if carved with a chisel (especially the extraordinary Hildur Karlberg, Ms. Margarita: the actress felt the approach of death and delayed it until the end of filming) convey to the viewer an incredibly strong and lasting sense of reality, rarely reaching such degrees in historical film. The feeling of reality is also connected with the fact that the events are presented by Dreyer in full accordance with the thinking of that time, without any detachment and without looking down. We will never know for sure whether Madame Margarita possessed witchcraft power and whether she deliberately parted with it when she went to bed and died, ensuring the happiness of a young couple in love living in her house. In the plot, the supernatural and the most banal everyday life are intertwined and merge into one – just as they merged in the minds of people of that time. Chronicler, artist, moralist. Dreyer always leaves the viewer slightly puzzled; it is in this way that he assumes and tries to comprehend the presence of invisible phenomena. nine0003
