AMERICA’S MOST ACCREDITED

We’re so proud!

Nationally only 10% of daycares are accredited – nearly 100% of our learning centers are. That’s a big difference,
and that means KinderCare kids are getting the very best. Here’s why.

SCHOOL-READY

What Learning Looks Like

Our talented early-childhood teachers set kids down the path toward becoming lifelong learners in a positive, safe, and nurturing environment.

Bon Air KinderCare Programs

Infant Programs (6 weeks-1 year)

Leaving your baby in someone else’s care is a big step. Everyone at our
centers—most importantly, our naturally gifted infant teachers—will work with
you to make sure the transition goes smoothly. When you step into our infant
classroom, you’ll see how much we want your infant to feel safe, loved, and
ready to explore their world.

Toddler Programs (1-2 Years)

Everything in our toddler classroom is designed for little explorers. That’s
because a lot is going on at this age. When your child is wandering all over the
place, that means they’re learning and discovering new things every day. We’ll
help them explore their interests (and find new ones!) as they play and learn.

Discovery Preschool Programs (2-3 Years)

This age is filled with so much wonder and curiosity. That’s why we offer a ton
of books and toys and bring artwork down to kids eye level. Children in
discovery preschool also begin to learn how we all work together in a
classroom. Simple math and science, pretend play, and group play help them
get used to a more structured school setting.

Preschool Programs (3-4 Years)

This age is all about expression, when kids really start to form their own ideas
about what they want to play and how they want to create. Every day in our
preschool classroom, your child will explore science experiments, create
artwork, and play pretend—all the skills needed for their big next step:
kindergarten!

Prekindergarten Programs (4-5 Years)

When you walk into one of our pre-K classrooms, you’ll see artwork and
writing displayed around the room. Labels are everywhere to help kids connect
letters with words. You’ll also see pictures on the walls that reflect the families
in our community. Your child will also deepen their knowledge in language,
math, science, Spanish, and social skills.

Learning Adventures – Enrichment Program

Cooking Academy™ (3-12 Years)

In Cooking Academy, kids learn new recipes from cultures around the world and
develop a healthy relationship with food. They’ll whip up everything from Southwest
rainbow lettuce wraps to pumpkin muffins, building their skills in STEM, communication,
and more along the way. And yes—little chefs get to eat their culinary creations!

Music Explorers™ (2-4 Years)

KinderCare families are already giving a standing ovation to our newest Learning
Adventures program: Music Explorers! Kids will learn to sing, move, listen, play
instruments, and even create their own tunes. Our original curriculum blends math,
science, social studies, literacy, and mindfulness (think yoga!) for a uniquely KinderCare
way of learning the foundations of music.

Phonics Adventures® (2-4 Years)

Learning how to read is a whole lot of fun at KinderCare! We help kids grow to love
books and words (and get ready for kindergarten) in our Phonics Adventures program.
From discovering the basics of vowels to practicing poetry, kids learn all about letters
and sounds in small-group lessons made just for their age group. (Bonus: Kids who
attend our phonics program are more prepared than their peers for school—and we
have the data to prove it.)

Our Teachers

We’re the only company in early childhood education to select teachers based on natural talent. Being a great educator isn’t enough though.
KinderCare teachers are also amazing listeners, nurturers, boo-boo fixers, and smile-makers. Put more simply,
we love our teachers and your child will, too.

Meet just a few of our amazing KinderCare teachers!

A KINDERCARE TEACHER WITH

An Artist’s Heart

“My classroom is full of art!” says Mary Annthipie-Bane, an award-winning early childhood educator at KinderCare. Art and creative expression, she says, help children discover who they really are.

We put our best-in-class teachers in a best-in-class workplace. We’re so proud to have been named one of Gallup’s 37 winners of the Great Workplace Award.
When you put great teachers in an engaging center, your children will experience
an amazing place to learn and grow.

amazing things!

Richmond is the capital of the state of Virginia in the USA

Richmond is the capital of the state of Virginia in the USA. It boasts a rich history (important events of the American Revolution and the Civil War took place there), an active cultural life, as well as unusual urban hiking trails. I lived in Richmond for three months, and in this article I will share my favorite locations.

Where is the city of Richmond

The city of Richmond is located in the state of Virginia, in the eastern part of the United States. Washington D.C. is 170 km away and New York City is 580 km away.

Five reasons to visit Richmond

  1. Visit places of military glory. Richmond played a major role in the American North-South Civil War. In the vicinity of the city there are important battlefields and other military monuments.
  2. Go hiking in the city center. The city is located on the banks of the James River, along which there is a long system of walking trails. In addition to the usual trails, it includes abandoned industrial facilities, such as bridges, decommissioned dams, old railways. In other countries, I have never seen such a cool integration of abandoned buildings into city life.
  3. Take a tour of Capitol , which set the style for government buildings throughout North America.
  4. Find out how the lives of the people of Virginia have changed over the course of 400 years in numerous museums.
  5. Walk part of the Appalachian Trail at Shenandoah National Park , or explore other natural landmarks in Virginia.

Historical Information

The city of Richmond has a rich history dating back to the time of colonization of the United States by colonists from Europe. In 1607, the English, led by Captain Christopher Newport, founded Jamestown, the first permanent settlement in Virginia, and one of the first in the United States.

The oldest city in the United States is San Augustine in Florida, founded in 1565.

In 1737, William Byrd II, a wealthy planter from Virginia, established the trading port of Richmond on the James River.

During the American Revolution, which aimed to get rid of the influence of the British Empire, Richmond emerged as a center of political activity. The war led to the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 in Philadelphia, and the formation of an independent United States of America. The state capital moved from Williamsburg to Richmond, which was in a safer location inland.

Richmond’s most significant historical event was the American Civil War. The city was the capital of the Confederacy, which opposed Union forces. Richmond became the center of the conflict, and was brutally destroyed in 1865 as a result of the Battle of Petersburg. The fall of the capital was a turning point in the war.

After the Civil War, Richmond gradually rebuilt its economy and infrastructure, abandoning its former dependence on agriculture. The production of tobacco and iron began to flourish. Today, Richmond is one of the most dynamic cities on the US East Coast, rich in history, culture and economy.

Richmond Landmarks in USA

Capitol – America’s Oldest Legislature

Virginia State Capitol

  • Address: 1000 Bank St, Richmond, VA
  • Hours of Operation: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Sunday Capitol opens to visitors at 1:00 pm
  • Tour schedule: every hour from 10:00 to 16:00, except Sunday. Independent visits are allowed, but with a guide it is much more interesting.
  • Price: free
  • Website: https://virginiacapitol.gov/

The Virginia State Capitol is perhaps one of the city’s most interesting and historical landmarks. Admission is free, and I sincerely recommend joining the tour – there are guides who are passionate about their work!

So what’s interesting about this place?

🏛 The Richmond Capitol is home to the Virginia General Assembly, the state legislature, consisting of the House of Delegates and the Senate. It is America’s oldest legislature and moved to Richmond from Williamsburg after the British were expelled.

🏛 The Virginia Capitol building was designed by Thomas Jefferson, one of the founding fathers of the United States of America and author of the Declaration of Independence. Construction ended in 1788. This is the first public building in the style of a Roman temple in the Americas, inspired by the Maisons Carré at Nîmes in southern France. It set the style for all subsequent US government buildings, including the main Capitol in Washington.

🏛 In the lobby is the only sculpture of George Washington for which he personally posed. They say that for the sake of meeting with the first president of the United States, the sculptor refused to order Catherine II 🤫

🏛 Despite the fact that the new Capitol represented independence from British influence, the British royal scepter is still kept there.

St. John’s Church

St. John church

  • Address: 2401 East Broad Street
  • Opening hours: The temple is open from Thursday to Sunday. Tours are held on Sundays at 13:30.
  • Price: $15 for a theatrical tour, visiting the temple is free.
  • Website: https://www.historicstjohnschurch.org/

Church of St. John’s in Richmond was built in 1741 and is one of America’s most important historic sites.

In the 1770s, tensions between the American colonies and Great Britain began to rise. The state of Virginia held a series of protests against the mother country. In March 1775, the Second Virginia Convention was held within the walls of St. John’s Church, with Patrick Henry, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Peyton Randolph as delegates. Here Patrick Henry uttered the famous words, “Give me freedom… or give me death!”, which ignited the spark of the Revolutionary War.

Monuments of the Civil War of 1861-1865

The red brick building houses the Tregedar ironworks and museum.

Richmond, being the capital of the Confederacy during the American Civil War, houses several important monuments of that time:

  1. Tredegar Steel Works (admission costs $18, or $28 for the combined Tredegar + White House ticket) – more than half of the cannons were cast here for the Confederate Army. The building next door houses the American Civil War Museum.
  2. The Confederate White House was the official residence of Confederate President Jefferson Davis during the war. Excursions are conducted by appointment.
  3. Valentine First Freedom Center (Free) – Located on the site where the Virginia General Assembly met in secret during the American Revolution. Thomas Jefferson drafted the Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom in 1777. This revolutionary document, passed in 1786, paved the way for the First Amendment to the US Constitution.
  4. Chimborazo Hospital is the largest hospital camp in the Confederacy, accommodating up to 4,000 patients at a time. Now there is a free museum.

Richmond National Battlefield park is located in the vicinity of the city. It includes 13 separate objects. These are mainly fields where major battles took place, as well as forts and historical buildings. I’ll tell you more about this place in the Richmond Neighborhood section.

Richmond Museums – top five

  1. Museum of Fine Arts (free of charge) – houses an extensive collection of art objects from different countries. There is a Greek and Asian section, a collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts, and even Faberge eggs donated to Emperor Nicholas II.
  2. Valentine’s Museum ($10, admission free on Wednesday) – tells the history of the city of Richmond from the Indians to the present. I advise you to join a free tour to take a look at the premises of the Valentine family mansion.
  3. Museum of History and Culture ($10) – worth a visit for an informative timeline that tells the history of the state of Virginia and a gallery dedicated to American space exploration. In one of the corners of the hall you can touch a piece of the real moon!
  4. Museum of the writer Edgar Allan Poe, a native of Richmond, located in an old stone house with an Enchanted Garden. This museum turned 100 years old last year! It has been visited by famous writers and artists such as Salvador Dali, Gertrude Stein, Lovecraft and Henry Miller. Entrance costs $10.
  5. Branch Museum of Architecture and Design (conditionally free, the visitor determines the price) – a collection of furniture, during the creation of which the designers truly gave free rein to their imagination.

Of course, there are more museums in Richmond. For example, the Holocaust museum (free), the Black History museum ($10), the science museum, the children’s museum, and the homes of historical figures I’ve never heard of. The entire list can be found on this site. Museum lovers in America are free: even the most nondescript-looking exhibition usually turns out to be interactive, immense and terribly interesting.

Hiking along the James River

What I love about Richmond is the abundance of hiking trails and nature in the heart of the city. Numerous trails are laid along the James River, and form a giant circular route that cannot be bypassed in one day. I was particularly impressed by the way industrial facilities – old destroyed dams, rusty bridges, ruins of factories – fit into the urban landscape.

There are interesting educational signs along these trails. Along the way, you can watch birds – red cardinals and blue jays, or feed the turtles.

North Bank of the river
  • Canal Walk – a nice path along the city canal, where you can ride a boat. Despite the fact that this place is located near a busy traffic intersection, it is a quiet and pleasant corner.
  • Pipeline Walk is my favorite hike in Richmond. It passes under the bridge, along a picturesque rusty pipeline, through which storm drains enter the storage tank. There are wild beaches along the pipe, but no one swims there because of the powerful river rapids. It is a popular place for kayaking and rafting.
  • North bank trail – runs along the north bank of the river, parallel to Hollywood Cemetery and the railroad. If you go further, you will come out to Maymont Park.
  • Virginia Capital Trail is a 70 km route that starts in downtown Richmond and ends in Jamestown. We rode it with Paul on a bike.
South bank of the river
  • Buttermilk Trail is a very nice hike that makes you forget that you are in the city.
  • Reedy Creek Trail – Runs parallel to the Buttermilk Trail but closer to the river.
  • Belle Island is the most popular island in Richmond where prisoners of war were kept during the Civil War. Now it is a park where you can ride a bike, run and even see deer sparkling with white asses in the thick of the forest.
  • Floodwall Walk – runs along an abandoned dam, with a picturesque view of the city.
  • Slave Trail is an educational trail that tells about the trade in enslaved Africans from Africa to Virginia and then to other cities in America until 1865. The route begins at Manchester Docks, a major downriver port that made Richmond the largest market for enslaved Africans on the American East Coast from 1830 to 1860. The trail then passes through the slave markets of Richmond, from the Lumpkin slave prison and cemetery to the First African Baptist Church, the center of African-American life in Richmond before the Civil War.

Hollywood Cemetery – the resting place of famous people

Hollywood Cemetery

  • Address: 412 South Cherry Street, Richmond, VA
  • Working hours: from 8:00 to 17:00
  • Price: free
  • Website: https://www. hollywoodcemetery.org/

Hollywood Cemetery is a vast area that can be explored all day long. This is not a gloomy and depressing cemetery, as in Russia, but a well-groomed park where families stroll through. Before visiting this attraction, grab a map from the visitor center so you don’t miss important monuments.

Two US Presidents are buried in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond: James Monroe and John Tyler. In addition, Confederate President Jefferson Davis, famous military leaders, politicians, writers and artists are buried there.

Maymont – Victorian Manor and Park

Maymont Park

  • Address: 412 South Cherry Street, Richmond, VA
  • Working hours: from 8:00 to 17:00
  • Price: free
  • Website: https://maymont.org/

A magnificent park in downtown Richmond, set around the historic Maimont Mansion. There is a Japanese-style botanical garden, a mini-farm and lakes with self-assured Canadian geese.

Art District – student vibe

The area sprawled along Broad Street. There you will find the coziest coffee houses and restaurants of all cuisines of the world, craft breweries, galleries, boutiques and everything that makes city life so happy. Look around for cool graffiti, because this place is called the arts district for a reason.

Cary street is lined with designer and second hand shops where you can find cool stuff for just a couple of dollars. The exchange is active: every day, queues of students line up at the checkout of things, ready to update their wardrobe and earn some extra money. Therefore, things in these second-hand stores are modern, often even with tags.

Don’t miss Byrd’s Cinema, which turned 90 in 2018. It is housed in a luxurious building with baroque interiors worthy of an opera house. Films are shown there, from silent films of the 20s to modern comedies.

Race Stadium – Famous NASCAR Races

Richmond Raceway

  • Website: https://www. richmondraceway.com/schedule/

NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) is one of the most popular and spectacular auto racing in the US, which involves sports cars on circuit tracks. At the stadium in Richmond you can see the legendary race with your own eyes. Of course, they do not take place every day – follow the schedule on the website.

Day trip from Richmond

Virginia Historic Triangle

Williamsburg.

Virginia’s Historic Triangle includes three colonial capitals from which the development of the state began: Jamestown (Jamestown), Williamsburg (Williamsburg) and Yorktown (Yorktown). This region is the center of American history.

🛖 The first permanent English colony in America was founded in Jamestown. Now there are two museums: the archaeological excavations of the first fort in Historic Jamestown ($30) and Jamestown Settlement ($18), which reproduces the atmosphere of an English settlement of the early 17th century.

🏛 Williamsburg was the capital of the colony of Virginia. This is a pretty tourist town with colonial architecture, where you can just walk around (free of charge). However, if you want to visit museums and shows, you will have to buy a complex ticket for $50.

🗽 The decisive battle of the American Revolutionary War took place in Yorktown. Tourists will be interested in seeing the battlefield and the Museum of the American Revolution. Tickets are sold separately and cost $15 and $18 respectively.

Richmond Battlefield National Park

Richmond Battlefield National Park

Richmond Battlefield National Park was established to commemorate the American Civil War. The park includes 13 different locations located around the city. A detailed map can be downloaded here. You will need your own transport to see these attractions.

The Battle of Richmond was one of the largest battles of the American Civil War, and was crucial to the outcome of the conflict. It was attended by about 100 thousand soldiers from the South and North. As a result, the Northern forces won and occupied Richmond, which marked the beginning of the end of the Civil War.

Busch Gardens

Busch Gardens

  • Website: https://buschgardens.com/
  • Price: from $90 per day; annual subscriptions and complex tickets are much more profitable.

An alternative to the famous Disneyland park, where there is a long queue for each attraction. The park offers cool roller coasters, water rides, and various themed shows.

Shenandoah National Park

Shenandoah National Park

  • Price: $15 for pedestrian, $25 for motorcycle (driver and passenger), $30 for car (driver and all passengers). There is also an annual “America the Beautiful” pass to all US national parks for $80.
  • Website: https://www.nps.gov/shen/

Shenandoah National Park is located in western Virginia. It extends along the Blue Ridge mountain range, which is part of the Appalachian mountain range. The park is traversed by the famous Appalachian Trail and the scenic Skyline Drive, ideal for motorcycling.

Shenandoah is also home to black bears, beavers, deer and over 200 bird species. There are several campsites in the park suitable for both camping and caravan parking.
