Six people were killed in a knife attack on a kindergarten in southern China. A young man was detained following a fatal attack that also wounded one person.

Six people were killed and one wounded in a morning knife attack on a kindergarten in southern China. A 25-year-old man has been detained in connection with a fatal incident in Lianjiang city, Guangdong province, according to The Guardian, according to a local police statement posted on social media.

The man (reportedly his last name is Wu) started to rage at 7:40 am. Among the victims of the villain were one teacher, two parents and three children, according to AFP, citing a representative of the local government. The attacker was caught in twenty minutes.

The police classified this case as a “deliberate attack”. Meanwhile, the motives for the terrible attack on the children’s institution remain unclear.

Attacks on schoolchildren have been a constant problem in China for many years, according to The Guardian. More than a decade ago, then-Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao went on television after a series of attacks, promising to improve school safety and efforts to tackle major problems.

Attacks continue and often spark mass anger, although strict gun control laws mean attackers typically carry knives or makeshift explosives.

Monday’s attack was the most viewed topic on the Chinese social media site, reaching over 220 million views by mid-afternoon.

Last August, three people were killed in an attack in southern Jiangxi province that also targeted a kindergarten.

In April 2021, two children were killed and 16 others injured when a knife-wielding man entered a kindergarten in southern China.

Last June, 37 students and two adults were injured by a knife attacker at an elementary school in southern China.

And in November 2019, a man climbed the wall of a kindergarten in southwestern Yunnan province and splashed people with a corrosive liquid, injuring 51 of them, mostly students.

In the same year, eight schoolchildren were killed and two others were injured in a “school-related criminal case” in the central province of Hubei, and a 40-year-old man was arrested.

And in April 2018, a 28-year-old man killed nine college students and injured 12 others near their school in northern Shaanxi province.
