AMERICA’S MOST ACCREDITED

We’re so proud!

Nationally only 10% of daycares are accredited – nearly 100% of our learning centers are. That’s a big difference,
and that means KinderCare kids are getting the very best. Here’s why.

SCHOOL-READY

What Learning Looks Like

Our talented early-childhood teachers set kids down the path toward becoming lifelong learners in a positive, safe, and nurturing environment.

Needham Heights KinderCare Programs

Infant Programs (6 weeks-1 year)

Leaving your baby in someone else’s care is a big step. Everyone at our
centers—most importantly, our naturally gifted infant teachers—will work with
you to make sure the transition goes smoothly. When you step into our infant
classroom, you’ll see how much we want your infant to feel safe, loved, and
ready to explore their world.

Toddler Programs (1-2 Years)

Everything in our toddler classroom is designed for little explorers. That’s
because a lot is going on at this age. When your child is wandering all over the
place, that means they’re learning and discovering new things every day. We’ll
help them explore their interests (and find new ones!) as they play and learn.

Discovery Preschool Programs (2-3 Years)

This age is filled with so much wonder and curiosity. That’s why we offer a ton
of books and toys and bring artwork down to kids eye level. Children in
discovery preschool also begin to learn how we all work together in a
classroom. Simple math and science, pretend play, and group play help them
get used to a more structured school setting.

Preschool Programs (3-4 Years)

This age is all about expression, when kids really start to form their own ideas
about what they want to play and how they want to create. Every day in our
preschool classroom, your child will explore science experiments, create
artwork, and play pretend—all the skills needed for their big next step:
kindergarten!

Prekindergarten Programs (4-5 Years)

When you walk into one of our pre-K classrooms, you’ll see artwork and
writing displayed around the room. Labels are everywhere to help kids connect
letters with words. You’ll also see pictures on the walls that reflect the families
in our community. Your child will also deepen their knowledge in language,
math, science, Spanish, and social skills.

Kindergarten Programs (5-6 Years)

Welcome to kindergarten: the gateway to grade school and everything that
comes next! Offered in select centers, our kindergarten programs have small
class sizes and curriculums that mix learning and fun. The basic building
blocks of reading, writing, math, and science are key in kindergarten, so we
make sure they get lots of practice in all of these areas.

Before- and After-School Programs (5-12 Years)

You can count on us to provide reliable care for your school-ager while you’re
at work, with safe transportation from our center to your child’s school and
back! Whether your child wants to start a drama club, build a volcano, or
create a comic book, they will have a place to follow their dreams. Your child
will start and end the day with a whole lot of fun!

Interactive Kindergarten (5-6 Years)

Kindergarten is a critical year for young learners. Experienced KinderCare teachers will
tap into your child’s natural curiosity to help get them even more prepared for
elementary school. Our engaging lessons make the most of current technology while
offering plenty of hands-on play and exploration.

School Break Programs (preschool, prekindergarten, and school-age)

Winter break, spring break, summer break—when school’s out (but you still need to work), you
can count on KinderCare to provide a safe and supportive learning environment that’s focused
on fun. We welcome children ages 5-12 during school break times and make sure they have a
sensational, screen-free experience they won’t forget.

Learning Adventures – Enrichment Program

Cooking Academy™ (3-12 Years)

In Cooking Academy, kids learn new recipes from cultures around the world and
develop a healthy relationship with food. They’ll whip up everything from Southwest
rainbow lettuce wraps to pumpkin muffins, building their skills in STEM, communication,
and more along the way. And yes—little chefs get to eat their culinary creations!

Music Explorers™ (2-4 Years)

KinderCare families are already giving a standing ovation to our newest Learning
Adventures program: Music Explorers! Kids will learn to sing, move, listen, play
instruments, and even create their own tunes. Our original curriculum blends math,
science, social studies, literacy, and mindfulness (think yoga!) for a uniquely KinderCare
way of learning the foundations of music.

Phonics Adventures® (2-4 Years)

Learning how to read is a whole lot of fun at KinderCare! We help kids grow to love
books and words (and get ready for kindergarten) in our Phonics Adventures program.
From discovering the basics of vowels to practicing poetry, kids learn all about letters
and sounds in small-group lessons made just for their age group. (Bonus: Kids who
attend our phonics program are more prepared than their peers for school—and we
have the data to prove it.)

Family Stories

Don’t take our word for it. Hear what our families have to say about our amazing center!

  • “The entire KinderCare staff was absolutely amazing when it came to assisting me and my daughter with a wonderful transition. Whenever she would cry when it was time for Mommy to leave, an attentive staff member would pick her up and hold her to make her feel comfortable as I moved out of the line of vision. I enjoyed every photo that my daughter brought home with her after school, as well as knowing that my daughter was receiving a healthy snack and a wonderful education provided by a fantastic team of people. KinderCare is a wonderful, safe, friendly, and helpful center. I would recommend this center to anyone in need of exceptional childcare.

  • Ella attended KinderCare since she was 12 weeks old and had wonderful teachers during the past four years. She learned and developed so much under these teachers’ amazing care and we are truly grateful for all their hard work and dedication. Especially, Ms. Margarita has been exceptional in nurturing her to be a curious and positive little person.

Banu & Todd Mattuchio – KinderCare Parent
  • Our son has made incredible progress over the 8 months that he has been enrolled in Phonics. We were nervous at the beginning of the session because not only did he not know his letters, he also seemed uninterested in learning how to identify them, how to write, and in generally about the sounds that they make. However, Ms. Carly and the Phonics sessions have made our son incredibly excited about letters, and more importantly, about learning. He now knows – at the Preschool stage – what our older son started learning in Kindergarten. He is proud and feels special that he gets to participate in this extra class. And the best achievement of it all is the confidence that Ms. Carly’s teaching and the curriculum has given to our son about his own abilities. We are very happy with Kindercare’s Phonics Learning Adventure, and we would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

John Needham Biography and experiments / General culture | Thpanorama

John Needham (1713-1781) was an English naturalist, biologist and clergyman, best known for being a sponsor of the spontaneous generation theory and the first clergyman to become a Fellow of the Royal Society of London in 1768.

Most Needham’s important contributions to science were early observations of plant pollen, observations of squid organs, and the classic experiment to determine whether spontaneous generation occurs at the microscopic level..

On the other hand, he was especially recognized for his controversy with the French philosopher Voltaire about miracles and for a linguistic theory of the chronology of the Bible based on a statue supposedly Egyptian.

Despite their failure to confirm the existence of spontaneous generation, their contributions were useful to other biologists who succeeded in explaining the theory; In addition, their contributions have influenced the explanation of cell theory.

Biography

Early life and early classes

John Terberville Nidham was born on September 10, 1713 in London, England. He was one of four children of lawyer John Needham and Margaret Lucas. His father died when he was young.

Needham received his first religious education in French Flanders, France, which influenced his intellectual life. According to some sources, he attended an English school at Douai in northern France between 1722 and 1736. From 1736, Needham devoted himself to teaching at the University of Cambrai, France.

In 1738 he was ordained a lay priest and remained at first a teacher, and then went to accompany young English Catholic nobles on a grand tour. During this year he spent some time reading about microscopic animals, which created a great interest in the natural sciences.

Then, in 1740, he moved to England and took up a position as assistant teacher at a Catholic school near Twyford, Winchester.

He moved to Lisbon, Portugal, to teach; during his stay in Portugal, he managed to make the first investigations. In particular, he worked with the organs of the squid. For health reasons, he had to move again to England, in 1745.

Occupational trajectory

While at Twyford, he made his microscopic observations of contaminated wheat, which, along with those of the squid, became the subject of his early work. one of his earliest reports of microscopic discoveries.0005

Both Buffon and Needham made various observations that showed the presence of globules under their microscopes, which Buffon called “organic molecules”. Thanks to these discoveries, Needham was recognized as an empirical scientist.

In the same year (1748) he carried out his famous experiment with lamb broth and studied the composition of animals; A year later, after further research, it was possible to publish in detail a work entitled Observations on the formation, composition and decomposition of animal and plant matter.

Finally, in 1750, he presented his theory of spontaneous generation and tried to offer scientific evidence to support it. known as Voltaire. Around the time Needham first explained his beliefs, Voltaire immediately went against his theories. His criticism arose after Needham, through his observations, suggested that small microscopic animals could be spontaneously created in a sealed container..

Last years

In 1751 Needham again became tutor to several young Catholics on their great tours of Europe; his trips included France, Switzerland and Italy. The young people were to be accompanied by a clergyman; The role adopted by Needham.

In 1768 he settled in Brussels as director of what later became the Royal Academy of Belgium. His scientific interests were largely motivated by his desire to defend religion at a time when biological questions were of great theological and philosophical importance.

In the same year he was elected a Fellow of the prestigious Royal Society of London; one of the oldest learned societies in the United Kingdom and the first Catholic priest to receive such an appointment.

death

He held this position until 1780. A year later, in 1781, John Needham died on December 30 at the age of 68. There are no references to cause or cause of death.

experiments

First experiments and contributions

In 1740, John Needham made several experiments with pollen in water. Through these observations, he was able to demonstrate the mechanics of pollen with his papillae. The name “tardigrades” was later given to Spallanzani, Needham was the first to give the first clues about the presence of these microorganisms. .

Although John Needham’s research seemed to contradict cell theory, it helped inadvertently support the theory. Scientific progress is not just a bunch of successful experiments; Sometimes great achievements come from recognizing others who have gone wrong. It was Needham’s role to develop cell theory.

Application of experiment to spontaneous generation

About 1745 Needham made his first experiments; from there he responded to his theory of spontaneous generation. He first experimented with lamb broth and then with contaminated wheat in containers..

The experiments consisted of briefly boiling the lamb broth mixture and then cooling the mixture in an open container at room temperature. Subsequently, he sealed the bottles and noticed the presence of microbes a few days later.

Needham established from his observations that micro-organisms do not grow from eggs. He more strongly defended the theory of spontaneous generation, according to which living organisms develop from “non-living” material at the microscopic level. .

According to Needham, this experiment showed that there was a life force that produced spontaneous generation; from there the English biologist vigorously defended his theory of abiogenesis and the origin of life.

Needham’s theory of spontaneous generation

In 1750, Needham succeeded in developing his own theory of spontaneous birth, and he differed from Buffon in his combinations of random denial of the mathematical account of genetic traits.

In addition, he challenged the conclusions of the Italian naturalist Francesco redi , who in 1668 developed a scientific experiment to test spontaneous creation. After his results, he thought that insects could not be born from pollution, doubting the theory of spontaneous formation..

In this sense, Needham believed in the tradition of Aristotle and Descartes only that he created his own elemental generation or so-called “epigenesis”.

According to Needham, the embryo develops from an egg that has not differentiated; that is, there is no organ or structure, but, on the contrary, the organs of the embryo are formed from nothing or as a result of interaction with the environment. .

Results of the experiment on spontaneous generation0055

Several years after John Needham’s experiments, Spallanzani developed a series of experiments to discuss Needham’s experiments.

Spontaneous experiments were not completed because in 1765 Spallanzani brewed the same hermetically sealed lamb sauce and, upon opening the jars, found no microorganisms that Needham had discovered at that time..

The explanation the scientists were able to decipher was that Needham’s sterilization method was defective; the boiling time of his experiment was not enough to kill all the microbes in the broth.

Another observation that was made later is that Needham left the containers open while chilling. Exposure to air may have caused microbial contamination of lamb broth.

Discussion on the theory of spontaneous generation

Disputes about spontaneous generation continued until the beginning of 19th century with the French chemist Louis Pasteur. Pasteur responded to the claims of Needham and Spallanzani in his experiment.

The Paris Academy of Sciences offered a prize for solving the problem of the theory of spontaneous generation, so Pasteur, who studied microbial fermentation, accepted the challenge.

Pasteur used two goose-neck jars into which he poured an equal amount of meat broth and boiled them to kill the microorganisms present in the broth.

The ‘S’ shape of the bottle allows air to enter and microorganisms to remain at the very bottom of the tube. After a while, he noticed that none of the broths had the presence of microorganisms..

Pasteur was able to explain that by using a longer boiling period, Spallanzani destroyed something in the air responsible for life, something that Needham was unable to do in his experiment.
