Meridian of the pericardium (mc)

Outer
course of the meridian of the pericardium (Fig. 205)
begins in the fourth intercostal space,
rises to the third intercostal space
passes to the front of the shoulder
joint, shoulder, elbow joint

at the end of the third finger.

Internal course of the meridian

– in the fourth intercostal space, outward from
anterior midline for 5
cun. Function: signal
dot. Readings:
feeling of suffocation, shortness of breath, cough, pneumonia,
bronchitis; pain in the hypochondrium; infiltrate
in the armpit, mastitis; pain in
chest, shoulder, neck enlargement,
supraclavicular and axillary lymphatic
nodes.

MS2 tianquan
– on the front inner surface
shoulder, below the level of the anterior end
armpit folds by 2 cun,
where is the biceps furrow palpable
shoulder muscles. Readings:
pain in the region of the heart, pain behind the sternum
with irradiation to the scapula and according to Figure
205.

MS3 qu-jie
– in the middle of the elbow bend. Readings:

– above the proximal wrist
folds for 5 cun. Function: analgesic

cavity, cough with asthmatic
component, laryngitis; hypertension;
belching, vomiting, pain in the stomach, hypochondrium;
pain and cramps in the elbow
joint and shoulder; feverish conditions,
epileptiform seizures; disorders
psyche, sleep, anxious and manic
states.

MS7 Da-ling
– in the middle of the radiocarpal fold, in
recesses between tendons. Function:
both a sedative point and
helper point. Readings:
pain in the heart and chest area,
anxiety, sleep disturbance,
hypertension with high systolic
pressure; sore throat, violation of the act
swallowing; tendovaginitis, pain in the elbow,
wrist joints, in the forearm;
median nerve neuritis; pain in the area
stomach, vomiting with blood; feverish
states; neurasthenia, emotional
lability, hysteria.

MS8 lao-gun
– in the middle of the palm between III
and IV metacarpal bones (with
bent fingers – between the tips III
and IV fingers). Readings:
solar, heat stroke; pain in the area
heart, shortness of breath, hypertension; absence
appetite pathological thirst;
disorder of the act of swallowing, vomiting;
hand tremor, acrocyanosis; arthritis with
limitation of movement of the joints of the hands;
convulsions in children; stomatitis; psychoses,
hysterical fits; eczema on the hands.

MS9 chung-chun
– at the end (in the middle) of the nail phalanx
III finger, stepping back from the nail
0.3 cm. Function: toning point.
Readings:
heat stroke, pre-stroke condition,
shock, pain in the heart, feeling
suffocation and restlessness; headache,
feverish state without sweating;
asthenia, memory impairment; night terrors
in children.

Pericardial Meridian (MC) – School of Master Shi Yanbin

MC1 TIAN-CHI

Location: in the fourth intercostal space, 5 cun outside of the anterior midline.

Indications: feeling of suffocation, shortness of breath, cough, pneumonia, bronchitis; pain in the hypochondrium; infiltrate in the armpit, mastitis; pain in the chest, shoulder, enlargement of the cervical, supraclavicular and axillary lymph nodes.

Injection depth 0.5 cm, deep injection, especially in the left side of the chest, is contraindicated; it is better to first insert the needle perpendicularly by 0.3 cm and then turn it almost horizontally along the intercostal space by another 0.5 cm, pointing the end of the needle outward; cauterization 3–5 min.

MC2 TIAN-QUAN

Location: on the anterior inner surface of the shoulder, below the level of the anterior end of the armpit crease pa 2 cun, where the groove of the biceps of the shoulder is palpable.

Indications: pain in the region of the heart, pain behind the sternum radiating to the shoulder blade and along the inner surface of the shoulder; cough, pain in the chest and hypochondrium; vomit; decrease in visual acuity.

Injection depth 1.5 cm; cauterization 5–10 min.

MZ QU-JIE

Location: in the middle of the elbow.

Indications: pain in the heart, angina pectoris, tachycardia, fear, anxiety; hand tremor; dry mouth, sweating of the head and neck; increase in body temperature; belching, vomiting.

Injection depth 1.0 cm; cauterization 5–10 min.

MS4 SI-MEN analgesic

Location: 5 cun above the proximal radiocarpal crease.

Indications: hyperthermia of the palms and soles; mastitis; pain in the heart and chest, tachycardia, fear; asthenia; nausea, vomiting, pain in the hypochondrium; nosebleeds; pleurisy.

Injection depth 1 cm; cauterization 5–10 min.

MC5 JIAN-SHI

Location: 3 cun above the proximal radiocarpal crease.

Indications: sudden pain in the region of the heart, tachycardia; anxiety states, psychoses; aphonia, sensation of a foreign body in the throat, violation of the act of swallowing, pain in the stomach, vomiting; violation of the menstrual cycle; convulsions in children, epileptiform seizures; hand arthritis; infiltrate in the axillary region, hyperthermia of the palms, feverish conditions.

Injection depth 1.5 cm; cauterization 7–10 min.

MC6 NEI-GUAN stabilizing lo-point to the Meridian of the Three Heaters

Location: above the proximal radiocarpal crease by 2 cun, between the tendons.

Indications: pain in the heart, angina pectoris, tachycardia, diseases of the chest cavity, cough with an asthmatic component, laryngitis; hypertension; belching, vomiting, pain in the stomach, hypochondrium; pain and cramps in the elbow and shoulder area; feverish conditions, epileptiform seizures; mental disorders, sleep disorders, anxiety and manic states.

Injection depth 1.5 cm; cauterization 5–10 min.

MC7 DA-LIN sedative, helper

Location: in the middle of the wrist crease, in the depression between the tendons.

Indications: pain in the heart and chest, anxiety, sleep disturbance, hypertension with high systolic pressure; sore throat, violation of the act of swallowing; tendovaginitis, pain in the elbow, wrist joints, in the forearm; median nerve neuritis; pain in the stomach, vomiting with blood; feverish conditions; neurasthenia, emotional lability, hysteria.

Injection depth 1 cm; cauterization 3–10 min.

MS8 LAO-GUN

Location: in the middle of the palm between III and IV metacarpal bones.

Readings: sunny, heatstroke; pain in the heart, shortness of breath, hypertension; lack of appetite; pathological thirst; disorder of the act of swallowing, vomiting; hand tremor, acrocyanosis; arthritis with limited movement of the joints of the hands; convulsions in children; stomatitis; psychosis, hysterical seizures; eczema on the hands.

Injection depth 0.5–1.0 cm; cauterization 3–5 min.

MC9 ZHUN-CHUN toning

Location: at the end (in the middle) of the nail phalanx of the III finger, 0.3 cm away from the nail.

Indications: heat stroke, pre-stroke, shock, pain in the heart, feeling of suffocation and anxiety; headache, fever without sweating; asthenia, memory impairment; night terrors in children.
