KinderCare Education Acquires Rainbow Child Care Center, Expanding to More than 1,500 Learning Centers, Serving 185,000 Children…

Oct 16, 2020

Aug 27, 2018
Market-leader KinderCare Education acquires Michigan-based regional provider in one of largest expansions in the U.S. child care industry
Portland, Ore. (August 27, 2018) – Further cementing its leadership role as the largest childcare provider in the United States, KinderCare Education (KCE) announced today the successful acquisition of Rainbow Child Care Center and its 150 centers in 16 states. Based in Troy, Michigan, Rainbow is the eighth largest child care provider in the nation, and the acquisition expands KinderCare’s national presence to provide child care to more than 185,000 children in 40 states and Washington, D.C. The company did not disclose the terms of the transaction, which closed on August 24, but can confirm that this is the largest single acquisition for KinderCare since the company merged with Knowledge Learning Corporation in 2005. Known for its red-roofed community-based learning centers that began almost 50 years ago, KinderCare currently operates more than 1,300 fully accredited centers and has delivered 24 quarters of top-line and bottom-line consecutive earnings growth. After opening its first center more than 30 years ago, Rainbow has grown to serve families in more than 150 centers in 16 states, including Indiana, Michigan, North Carolina, Florida, Virginia, New Jersey and South Carolina. “Through this acquisition, KinderCare will grow our footprint overnight with a partner who shares our values and commitment to children and families,” said Tom Wyatt, CEO, KinderCare Education. “Bringing our two companies together, we share the goal of raising the quality of childcare in this country. What’s more important than helping to build a lifelong love of learning and confidence in more children?”
KinderCare, based in Portland, operates more accredited centers than any other provider, and has earned the distinction of being one of fewer than 40 Gallup Great Workplace award winners for two years in a row. Recent independent assessments from TerraNova® and BRIGANCE® confirm that KCE students are better prepared for school. Rainbow, meanwhile, has consistently delivered industry-leading growth through their robust new center opening engine. Both KinderCare Education and Rainbow offer before- and after-school programs, and partner with private sector companies to provide child care for their workers, demonstrating further alignment in their offerings for families, and fueling opportunities for growth. Rainbow co-founder Pat Fenton said: “We’re thrilled to join the KinderCare family to build upon our 30-year record of success. Our combined forces will enable us to serve more families with the high-quality child care that is our tradition.” Effective immediately, Fenton will report to Wyatt, and join the KinderCare Education leadership team. KinderCare Education and Rainbow are both majority-owned by private equity firms – Partners Group, on behalf of its clients (KCE), and Quad-C Management (Rainbow). “We’re excited about this acquisition and proud that it means KinderCare will be able to provide even more children and hardworking families access to the quality early education that KinderCare is known for,” said Joel Schwartz, Head Private Equity Americas at Partners Group and a member of KinderCare’s Board. Tim Billings, Partner at Quad-C Management Inc. said, “We are honored to have been partners with Pat Fenton and the Rainbow team. Rainbow is known for developing and operating world class schools; the combination of KinderCare and Rainbow will create tremendous opportunities for students, families and employees.”

The new headquarters of MR Group in the Neva Towers business center is implemented in the format of a smart office

at the address: Krasnogvardeisky proezd, house 22, building 1. The MR Group office is located on the 14th floor of the T1 tower, the space in it is organized on the basis of Multispace digital technologies.

photo: MR Group

The headquarters includes two main areas: a VIP for communicating with key customers and a back office with flexible workspaces. All functions in the office are controlled through a mobile application on iOS and Android systems. Users book workplaces and meeting rooms, manage engineering systems, multimedia, lockers, invite guests and fill out applications through a single application. Immediately at the time of arrival at the office, employees book the most suitable place for performing current tasks – in their team, flex or in a quiet area, they choose it according to the technical equipment, next to colleagues or a specific team.

The office includes 8 offices with workplaces and 24 meeting rooms. All offices and meeting rooms are equipped with video conferencing systems based on Teams. Management of engineering systems in the premises, namely the control of lighting and climate, is carried out through a single control panel, which, in turn, is integrated with the reservation system. To start working in the room, you need to book it, after which all engineering systems are activated, which can be controlled both from the remote control and from the mobile application.

“The active development of the company and the transition to a hybrid work format since 2020 have become a trigger for choosing a new modern office, corresponding to the status of one of the leaders in development. The hybrid approach and the smart office system allow maximum flexibility in adapting to changing conditions. For example, there is an option for team booking of jobs, which is convenient for groups working on a specific project,” says Maria Litinetskaya, developer and managing partner of MR Group.

In addition to workplaces, the office provides public space and storage areas for personal belongings and work correspondence with lockers, access to which is provided through a face recognition system or a pin code. The back office infrastructure also includes a kitchen, a coffee point and a lounge area for employees to relax.

The use of the application in all segments allows you to digitize the office and get reliable analytics about the use of its infrastructure elements – workplaces, meeting rooms, lockers, which makes it possible, taking into account statistics, to correctly build work processes.

Office interiors by Jaime Beriestain Studio, a renowned interior design studio that has designed projects for Hyatt Regency, Marriott, Waldorf Astoria and Hilton, among others. The implementation of the new headquarters project, including the integration of the Multispace technical platform, which combines user-friendly hardware solutions, custom software for indoor navigation, workplace and meeting room reservations, engineering management and multimedia, was handled by Pridex.

“We are delighted that one of Russia’s leading developers has chosen the Multispace workspace model for its new headquarters. The principles of the Multispace concept – human-centeredness, flexibility and adaptability make it possible to use the office as efficiently as possible, including in the context of the increasingly popular hybrid work format. The headquarters of the MR Group is a great example of the right vector of “digitalization” of the workspace. We look at this project as a promising opportunity for strategic cooperation in order to bring the offer of office real estate to the market at a qualitatively new level,” says Sergey Kudryavtsev, managing partner of Pridex.

“Today the market is experiencing a real revolution in the organization of a new and technological workspace. It is not surprising that MR Group, as one of the most progressive developers in Moscow, currently implementing the iCity project in the “smart building” concept, is an active follower of this trend. Actively applying innovative technologies and practices, thereby breaking the established stereotypes and changing the corporate culture of the office environment. The modern space of the Neva Towers business center is the best suited for creating a new office format, imbued with the spirit of cooperation and agile, and Multispace technologies allowed our tenant to create the most comfortable and “managed” space for employees and clients. We once again congratulate MR Group on moving to the Neva Towers business center and are confident that the new office will become a platform for their further effective growth and development,” adds Elizaveta Golysheva, Asset Management and Leasing Director of Metrika Investments.

MR Group has been successfully operating on the Russian market since 2003 and is one of the largest companies in terms of sales and construction of residential and commercial real estate in Russia. It is one of the market leaders in terms of digitalization and innovation in its projects, actively developing trade-in, venture investments and closed-end investment funds. The company’s portfolio includes 44 properties with a total area of 7 million square meters in Moscow, the Moscow Region and Sochi.

Earlier we wrote that G5 Architects completed the design of the Nickton headquarters in Moscow City.
