Lucy took excellent care of our son from when he was 5 months through 15 months. She gave him undivided attention and was always patient even on his fussiest days. She didn’t hesitate to ask questions nor to inform us of any concerns. We trust her with his care.

– Miguel L.

Chelsea G.

We found Chelsea to help with childcare four years ago. She is an amazing provider and my kids ask for her all of the time. Chelsea is playful, thoughtful and patient (so patient)! Chelsea has such a nurturing touch with the kids and has become part of our family.

– Joanne H.

Adriana E.

Adriana was a perfect babysitter- she came once and jumped right into our routine. My 8 m/o loved her – he slept so well since she played with him so well! She is the perfect balance of taking initiative but also checking in to get approval. She was communicative and kind. She also did a reallygreat job with the light housework I had her do. I would definitely hire her again….

Dana K.

Dana was great she watched my two toddlers for a few weeks. I would recommend hiring Dana.

– Michael B.

Jennifer M.

I’m so grateful to have met Jen! She is so patient, loving, and honestly a fantastic teacher to my children. From her communication skills to making sure the kiddos brush their teeth everyday- She really became my eyes and ears while I worked from home. When we first met I only needed someone duringthe work week, but she was able to help myself and my husband have some date nights too! Jen is definitely someone who will be in our family for a long time. I can’t wait to see where life takes her….

It has been great working with Childtime! I don’t feel worried about my child when I drop him off to school and I know he will be taken care of. In addition, the curriculum is really helping him to be prepped for kindergarten.

I love this school. I love the app. I feel like my son is safe and well taken care of when I leave him. Great location near my work. Great curriculum

I love this school because of the individual attention my daughter gets; this encourages her to learn and empowers her to try new things. The staff are all very loving and great at communicating! They are always in a great mood, and also pay special attention to the belongings of my daughter as well; which isn’t a requirement for me, but an added bonus. Also, the curriculum focuses on the correct building

blocks for a private school entry (pre-K or Kindergarten). Needless to say, I’m very happy to have found a place where they love my daughter and provide a great learning environment for her!

06 Pacific Ocean, Long Beach, Los Angeles, USA – HiSoUR Cultural History

The Aquarium of the Pacific is a public aquarium located on a 20,000 m2 site at Rainbow Harbor in Long Beach, California, USA. It is located across the water from the Long Beach Convention Center, Waterfront Village, and Queen Mary. The Pacific Aquarium is the fourth most visited aquarium in the country. Approximately 1.7 million people visit the Aquarium each year, making it consistently one of Los Angeles’ top attractions.

The Aquarium of the Pacific has about 12,000 animals and over 100 exhibits. Its galleries represent the cold waters of the North Pacific, the temperate Southern California/Baja region, and the warm coral reefs and lagoons of the tropical Pacific. In addition to world-class animal exhibits, the Aquarium offers educational programs for people of all ages, from hands-on classes to lectures by leading scientists.

Throughout the year, the Aquarium hosts art exhibitions, performing arts shows, cultural and community festivals to attract new audiences and make science accessible. His guest speaker series and Aquatic Academy courses offer the opportunity to learn about ocean and environmental issues from scientists and other experts who study them.

In 2019, the Aquarium opened its first major expansion since its founding, the new Pacific Visions Wing. Pacific Visions is a two-story, 29,000-square-foot sustainable building. This new building houses a state-of-the-art immersive theatre, art gallery and culminating gallery with interactives, gaming tables and live animal displays. Through Pacific Visions, visitors can explore the most pressing environmental issues of our time and alternative paths to building a more sustainable future.

Pacific Oceanarium is a place where communities gather, where cultures and arts are celebrated, and where important themes facing our planet and our oceans are explored by scientists, policy makers and stakeholders in search of sustainable solutions. Through these programs and a variety of multimedia activities, the Aquarium provides an opportunity to delve deeper into ocean science and learn more about our planet.

The Aquarium of the Pacific is the first museum, zoo and aquarium in the country to report greenhouse gases and has received many awards for its environmentally friendly practices. The Premier Watershed classroom was the first building in Long Beach to achieve LEED Platinum certification. Pacific Visions’ new wing received Two Green Globes certification from the Green Globes Building Rating System for demonstrating leadership in environmental performance best practices.

In addition to community programs and exhibitions, the Aquarium participates in numerous conservation activities including breeding and restoration of endangered species, sustainable seafood, watershed education, climate resilience, social science and more. Our team of scientific divers collects important data that is used by various ocean research institutions and agencies. And through our water forums, the Aquarium brings together scientists, educators, community leaders and policy makers to develop solutions to complex environmental problems.

Architecture
The aquarium’s architecture is inspired by the towering, crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean and reflects the fluid and dynamic nature of the ocean, a design movement called biomorphism. The aquarium’s latest addition is Pacific Visions, a wing that helps aquarium visitors better understand the challenges the ocean faces and the opportunities it opens up.

Pacific Visions is a space for imagination, innovation and creativity. Encased in a striking blue-green biomorphic shell, the expansion includes a state-of-the-art interactive theatre, a large live animal exhibition gallery and an art gallery. The blue glass façade is reminiscent of the Pacific Ocean and responds to changing lighting and weather conditions throughout the day.

Pacific Visions was conceived as an example of what aquariums could be like in the future, bringing together elements of science centers, art venues and museums to find solutions to our world’s biggest problems, including climate change and its effects. It is intended to be used as an adaptable platform, with spaces that can be redesigned to accommodate new exhibits and shows, as well as storytelling techniques. Technology available in every space, from massive LED video walls to interactive projections and immersive multi-sensory theatrical effects, can help visitors immerse themselves in stories that capture and inspire.

Pacific Visions’ unique silhouette and contemporary design make it an architectural landmark in Long Beach and the region. EHDD also designed the original Aquarium building. Pacific Visions’ design was inspired by organic forms found in nature, and its intricate glass façade suggests the color and shimmer of the ocean.

Pacific Visions covers over 800 uniquely shaped glass panels. Glass consists of three layers. The innermost layer has a fine reflective surface, the middle layer is painted blue, and the outer layer is made of acid-etched low iron glass, which eliminates the direct reflection of trees and the sky, making it convenient for birds.

Exhibits
The aquarium features a collection of over 11,000 animals representing over 500 different species, including sea otters, sharks, sea jellies, frogs, and more in our tropical, northern and southern California/Baja galleries. 5,000 to 350,000 gallons.

Exhibits introduce the inhabitants and seascapes of the Pacific Ocean and highlight the specific conservation measures associated with each region. The Pacific Ocean is home to three major permanent galleries: the sunny Southern California and Baja, the cold waters of the North Pacific, and the colorful reefs of the tropical Pacific.

At the Southern California/Baja gallery you can spot giant sea bass, leopard sharks, eels, seals, sea lions, abalone and other species found here or in Baja. Explore the cold water habitats of the North Pacific Gallery to meet playful sea otters, diving birds, sea jellies, giant spider crabs and more. Travel through the Tropical Waters Gallery to see the colorful fish and other species found in these warm tropical waters.

Visit the Aquarium’s latest expansion, Pacific Visions. The 29,000-square-foot eco-friendly expansion includes an art gallery, orientation gallery, Honda Pacific Visions multimedia theater, and the Schuebel Family Climax Gallery, which features interactive screens, displays, educational game tables, and live animal exhibits.

North Pacific Gallery
The Bering Sea is home to over 450 fish and invertebrate species, 50 bird species and 25 marine mammal species. The Aquarium is home to an adorable otter and a mysterious giant Pacific octopus. The North Pacific Gallery at Aquarium represents the northernmost region of the Pacific Ocean, specifically the habitats in and around the Bering Sea. The Northern Pacific Gallery features 16 interesting exhibits, including the Northern Pacific Preview, the Surge Channel, several types of sea jelly, and more.

The Sea Otter Exhibit is home to four of these amazing marine mammals that live in the frigid waters of the Pacific Ocean. Guests are captivated by their constant movement in the water, keeping their fluffy underwear dry and warm. This gallery also features our elusive Giant Pacific Octopus. The largest species of octopus in the world, these intelligent and enigmatic creatures grow to over 20 feet (6.1 m) and can weigh over 100 pounds (45 kg). Living on remote inland cliffs and islands along the north Pacific coast, puffins and equestrians build their nests in rocky depressions and crevices during the summer months. Otherwise, these seabirds spend most of the year at sea.

Tropical Pacific Gallery
The 16 exhibits in the Tropical and Pacific Aquarium Gallery with over a thousand colorful fish showcase the beautiful marine life that can be found off the coast of Palau. Containing 350,000 gallons of water, this exhibit features over a thousand colorful fish and beautiful corals, including sea turtles, zebra sharks, porcupine pufferfish and the great blue napoleon or humpback wrasse.

The Tropical Pacific Gallery also features venomous creatures, sea bass, clownfish and many live coral exhibits in the Aquarium. There’s a lot to discover in this colorful paradise, such as daily diving and feeding presentations, as well as opportunities to learn about the many species of sex-changing fish and others with remarkable camouflage and defensive abilities.

Lorikeet Forest
Lorikeet Forest, 5,400 square feet outdoor enclosure. Over 100 live lorikeets fill the trees. About 10 inches long, lorikeets display a gorgeous color combination ranging from bright blues and greens to exquisite reds, yellows and dark purples. When viewed in bright sunlight, these beautifully colored birds almost emit an iridescent glow – a stark contrast to the thick, dark trees in their natural habitat.

Jellies
Jellies and scallops have been on Earth for at least 500 million years and play an important role in the ocean as food for other animals such as sea turtles and mola mola. People also use jelly for food and other uses. They are also considered an indicator of the health of the ocean. For many years, aquarists have successfully grown several types of jelly. Learn the exciting truth about these beautiful yet mysterious animals and their importance to our oceanic planet.

Southern California / Bach Gallery
The Southern California/Baja Gallery presents this diverse marine environment through 18 exhibits. At the entrance to the gallery is the impressive Honda Blue Cave. Standing at the end of the Great Hall of the Pacific Aquarium, this three-story, 142,000-gallon display showcases the ocean dwellers off the coast of Catalina Island.

Entering the gallery, you are greeted by the Amber Forest. Featuring a beautiful bed of giant swaying seaweed, this exhibit offers a glimpse of colorful garibaldi (California’s native fish), giant spiny starfish, California scorpions and many other examples of native Southern California ocean life. Also in the Southern California/Baja Gallery is 211,000 gallons of seal and sea lion habitat. The Gulf of California Aquarium exhibit is part of the diversity of one of the most biologically productive and diverse seas in the world. It includes unique species of butterfly fish and large silver fish called Mexican onions.

Harbor Terrace
Harbor Terrace is located on the ground floor on the east side of the Aquarium’s main building. Overlooking Rainbow Harbor and the coastal village, this open space has tables and seating for visitors to relax, as well as two popular exhibits: the Moon Jelly Touch Lab and an exhibit featuring two species of amphibious jumpers.

The History of Southern California Steelhead
This exciting exhibit explores the history of local waterways and tells the story of Southern California steelheads and their importance to the local ecosystem. The Aquarium’s steel display takes visitors along a mountain path, allowing them to observe these fish in three areas representing the species’ journey from fresh water to brackish water and finally to the ocean. Through this exhibition, the Aquarium hopes to uncover the secrets of the little-known fish that lives among us in our urban environment and inspire the conservation of this unique animal.

The steel head is an indicator species: its survival depends on a healthy ecosystem. Over the years, they have faced many threats such as pollution, drought, and physical barriers, including dams and concrete channels, that have prevented them from traveling upstream. The exhibition documents their resilience in the face of these challenges, predicts the ability of species to adapt to future habitat changes, and suggests what we can do to help.

Molina Animal Care Center
The 14,000-square-foot Molina Animal Care Center at Pacific Oceanarium provides enhanced care for our animals, as well as giving our guests the opportunity to see veterinary medicine in action. The hospital, located across the Shark Lagoon, has an 1,800-square-foot examination area. Opened in 2010, the building is LEED Platinum compliant, in line with the Aquarium’s commitment to sustainable building practices in all new structures.

The Veterinary Hospital of the Aquarium is equipped with modern digital equipment. With the Eklin digital radiography system, X-ray film does not need to be processed and images are easily stored for diagnostic and record keeping purposes. This equipment also speeds up the whole x-ray process, which is better for the animals. A high-tech microscope with a camera imaging system can take pictures of the slides. As with the X-ray machine, this microscope allows you to send images to colleagues via email. Equipment for endoscopy and laparoscopy makes it possible to perform minimally invasive methods and observe the patient from the inside using a camera.

Holding and quarantine areas for fish, marine mammals and birds are also located at the Molina Animal Care Centre. The Aquarium’s largest tank, a 40-foot tank with a capacity of 56,000 gallons of water, will open in Spring 2012 and provide a critical storage space for the Aquarium’s sharks and larger animals. For newcomers to the Aquarium, there are two rooms for animals undergoing mandatory quarantine. There is also a reptile room and enclosures for waders and predators.

The treatment center offers a unique insight into the world of aquatic veterinary medicine. It also demonstrates the Aquarium’s commitment to caring for a wide range of mammals, birds, reptiles, fish and invertebrates. Molina Animal Care Center goes beyond being a place to care for animals. In the spirit of interactive learning, it allows visitors to observe operations, animal examinations, and even interact with the Aquarium’s veterinary staff from time to time.

Each day a staff member explains a live procedure or offers one of several educational shows. As guests pass through the viewing windows of the hospital, the veterinarian can work on the animal. Maybe there will be an operation on the fish. Maybe the otter will have their teeth cleaned. Windows and overhead computer monitors will make this possible for everyone.

events
Aquarium of the Pacific staff and volunteers go far beyond exhibitions. Diverse marine science and conservation activities include: breeding and conservation programs for endangered marine animals and habitats; housing non-released seals, sea lions and sea otters from local health centers and marine parks; cleaning beaches and habitats; variety of green business practices; and continued efforts to educate visitors about the importance of the ocean, its threats and conservation, including the dangers of marine pollution, overfishing, habitat destruction and global climate change.
