Fernanda Y.

Fernanda has been with our family for a year and we’re so happy with all she’s done to support our daughter’s development (walking, talking including learning Spanish, household tasks, potty training, handling big emotions). She is very well connected to other nannies in the area which helped somuch for early social interaction during the pandemic. She takes our daughter for little adventures every week like the museum, library, aquarium, and they get outside time daily – all done safely. She helps with household duties related to our child and never complains. She always provides updates if she’s running late or has a personal matter. We’re so sad to say goodbye, but highly recommend her to her next family….

I’m looking for my next nannying opportunity. For 7 years, I’ve taken care of kids from ages newborn through teenagers (and their families!). I get fulfillment from taking care of kids, especially newborns andtoddlers. No one else would give more 1-on-1 attention to your child. I’m generous and fun-loving and love to help with my kids’ education and development whether inside with homemade playdoh, or by taking them to the library, on walks around the neighborhood, etc. While I was raising my own kids (who are now grown), I also spent several years as a preschool teacher. I’m a fantastic cook and could prepare healthy meals for your family. My ideal family would have an extra room in their home; I’d love to be able to stay with your family during the week to avoid commuting, although I could be gone on the weekends if you prefer….

Part-time After After-school Babysitter!

Description:

Hi there! My passion for working with kids came naturally at a young age babysitting for my little cousins, neighborhood families and family friends. Growing up I would go to work with my mother, who worked inthe Winthrop Public school systems as an occupational, and through this, I found that I had a strong passion for teaching and working with kids. I began working at after-school programs at the YMCA, and after graduating with a bachelors in Theatre performance and education, I started a full-time position at a Daycare-after school program in Brooklyn, NY, Beansprouts. This is where I truly started to grow in my roles as an assistant teacher in a toddlers daycare classroom setting, split with acting as lead teacher in the kindergarten after-school program during the afternoon. This past year I moved back home to Boston and started working at the Eliot Charter School as a lead teacher in the after school program, Champions, and as well at the Mercantile daycare Kindercare….

My most recent babysitting experience was taking care of a newborn and her two older sisters (3 and 6 years old). I fed the baby, changed her diapers, kept a regimented sleep/waking cycle, sang to her, read herbooks, and recorded any irregularities in bowel movements or behavior due to changes in formula. Find Licensed In-Home Daycares in Greater Boston with NeighborSchools’ Free Match Me Tool | MommyPoppins

Wondering if in-home child care is right for your family and how to find a home daycare, preschool, or childcare program near you?

On June 8, Massachusetts officially entered Phase 2 of Governor Charlie Baker’s reopening plan, which means child care facilities around Boston are opening their doors. As families emerge from months of quarantine and some parents and caregivers even start heading back to work in real live offices, many are resuming or starting their search for quality care for their kiddos. Of course, child care will look pretty different in response to COVID-19, so parents are considering a number of new factors when deciding what type is the best fit—from preschools to corporate childcare centers to home daycares.

If you’re not familiar with licensed Family Child Care (FCC, or in-home daycare), read on to learn more about the many pros of these small-scale individualized home-based options. Then find out how NeighborSchools—the largest network of home daycares in Massachusetts—is using their Match Me tool to connect families with the right FCC for them.

Benefits of Home Daycare or In-Home Preschool

  • In Massachusetts, all home daycare providers are licensed by the state, and most have decades of experience in early childhood education. They are some of the most experienced childcare professionals available.
  • Home daycares tend to foster intimate relationships. Since providers are consistent and don’t rotate, you and your child will have the opportunity to form close relationships with them.
  • Low children to provider ratios mean lots of individualized attention for each little one, and small groups allow for plenty of flexibility from day to day.
  • Families can usually enroll at any time during the year.
  • Small class sizes help to limit the spread of germs, while also making it easier for providers to keep up with regular cleaning and disinfecting throughout the day.
  • Mixed age ranges mean more ways for kids to learn from one another, and generally more interaction for siblings enrolled in the same program.
  • There are 5,372 home daycares in Massachusetts and at least one of those is likely to be close to your own home, which means convenience and a short commute.
  • The home setting is comfortable and somewhat familiar for babies and toddlers, as they embark on what’s often their first experience away from their parents.
  • Kids are often able to explore the surrounding community through neighborhood walking trips and visits to local parks and libraries.

The Cost of In-Home Daycares

According to NeighborSchools, while every daycare is different and prices can vary quite a bit from one town to the next, in-home daycares usually cost $50-75 a day. And that’s generally 30-40% lower than the average cost of child care in any given area. NeighborSchools’ free Match Me tool saves parents time, without adding an additional expense.

How to Find a Home Daycare or Licensed Family Child Care

NeighborSchools helps parents find and tour home daycares across Massachusetts—minus the stress of countless spreadsheets and phone calls. Keep in mind that all listed programs are fully licensed and insured, background checked, and reference checked. Furthermore, all providers are heath and safety trained, and all homes have received a safety inspection. A lot of the hard work has already been done!

  • Visit NeighborSchools and browse daycares, with the option to narrow your search by area and the help of an interactive map.
  • Take the free Match Me Survey, which uses a series of questions about your childcare needs to generate a list of suggested providers.
  • Once you’ve taken the survey, you’ll be contacted by your dedicated parent matchmaker to set-up daycare tours and find your perfect fit.

Boston is full of surprises and the most interesting activities for children. Here are a few more places you should definitely visit with the whole family. nine0003

New England Aquarium

Children’s favorite New England Aquarium in Boston has been open since 1969. Its centerpiece is the Giant Ocean Tank, a unique cylindrical seawater tank four stories high. Moving along the spiral staircase around it, visitors can get acquainted with the diversity of the underwater world of coral reefs. The aquarium has several expositions that tell about marine animals and different ecosystems. There are sensory areas where you can pet stingrays and small sharks, hold sea urchins, stars and snails. Also, the New England Aquarium Whale Watching Center conducts excursions to the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary from April to November. nine0003

The Mapparium

The Mapparium is a three-story stained-glass model of the globe that houses the visitor. It was built in the building of the Mary Baker Eddy Library in 1935, based on the political map of the world at that time. The space inside is divided by a nine-meter glass bridge. Walking along it, children can find outlines of familiar countries on the walls of the Mapparium and see their exact geographical relationship. The uniqueness of this location is emphasized by the beautiful lighting. And here there is a very interesting acoustic effect – even the quietest whisper reflected from spherical walls becomes 10 times louder. nine0003

Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area

Children’s Meal in Boston

Fish and Chips

This recipe was brought to America by the first settlers from England. And it has become incredibly popular in Boston as a quick snack. Yankee Pot Roast

Roast Beef Sandwich

A Boston specialty since 1950s. It will be an ideal option for a snack during a sightseeing tour or a trip to the surrounding area. Lobster roll

Boston is a city that loves seafood and knows how to cook it. Lobster Rolls are similar to a hot dog in terms of serving. Lobster meat is generously placed in the middle of a grilled or pan-fried bun, seasoned with lemon juice, spices and poured with melted butter or mayonnaise. French fries and a salad of vegetables serve as an addition to the dish. Rolls are served both cold and hot. nine0003

Cannoli

The North End area, once heavily populated by immigrants from Italy, is the best place to try Boston-style cannoli. These are crispy dough tubes filled with a sweet filling of ricotta cheese with chocolate chips, nuts or fruits. It’s worth checking out a few pastry shops at once, as North End cannoli craftsmen have been in a tacit competition for the best recipe for decades. Buyers only benefit from this.

What you need to know when traveling with children in Boston

Boston is a comfortable and safe city for family travel. But some subtleties are still worth considering so that staying in it leaves only pleasant impressions.

  • The best time to travel to Boston with children is April-May and September-October, when the city pleases with pleasant weather, lack of crowds of tourists and moderate prices. But if you plan to devote a lot of time to a beach holiday, then plan a trip for July and August. nine0088
  • When traveling by car, even if it is a taxi, children under 8 years old (or less than 144 cm) must be in a special car seat. And those who are older are required to wear seat belts.
  • Preschoolers have free admission to most Boston museums. A ticket for teenagers is usually sold at a discount.
  • One MBTA paying adult can take two children under 11 free of charge.
