Scarborough Kindergarten Explosion – RussianWeek.ca

Posted on Friday, December 17, 2021 – 08:11 by romtim in Canada, News, Education, Incidents

Dozens of children were lucky enough to stay alive and unharmed after the explosion at the Scarborough kindergarten.

The incident took place Thursday afternoon at a children’s center located at 4679 Kingston Road East off Morningside Avenue.

During the explosion, the children were in a neighboring building, so they were not injured.

“The damage inside the kindergarten where the apparent explosion took place is significant and catastrophic. I don’t even want to think about what we would have seen here if these children and their caregivers were inside at the time,” said Jim Jessop, Deputy Fire Chief.

In the building where the explosion occurred, the windows were broken and the ceiling collapsed.

As a precaution, crews arrived and turned off the gas supply to him, but the investigation into what could have caused the explosion is still in the very early stages.

According to Jessop, the staff at the center should be greatly commended for handling the situation before the ambulance arrived.

Some adults received minor cuts from broken glass, but all avoided more serious injury.
