But the shortage of doctors in the German countryside does not help foreigners in terms of finding work. At the regional level, Germany is strongly skewed towards the southwest. Here the economic situation is better, salaries are higher, which attracts professionals from all over the country. In the north-east of Germany, gaps are being formed, from where intelligent specialists leave, and not only in the field of healthcare.
But in the country as a whole, the number of doctors is constantly growing, even excluding retired specialists. And the share of foreigners in the overall statistics is increasing every year.

Doctors’ opinion: there is not enough time in the country for doctors to devote to patients. If urgent action is not taken and more doctors are not trained, the shortage will become more acute. Despite the rapid growth in the number of doctors in Germany, there are still not enough of them.
Health insurance companies see the problem differently: due to the inevitable shortage of doctors outside the major cities, insurance companies believe that the problem is the distribution of services.
We must ensure a better distribution of doctors. But this is impossible as long as there are many places in cities for doctors in joint praxis.

A step towards solving the problem may be the obligation of practitioners to work not 20 hours a week, as it was, but 25. This will reduce the waiting time for patients. The issue of material incentives for medical specialists is also being discussed so that the place of residence of the doctor is located close to the practice. The total working time of praxis doctors (not only the appointment time) is still more than 50 hours a week today. The situation is similar in hospitals: 50% work 49-59 hours per week at the rate, 20% – from 60 to 80 hours, including duty and overtime.
Recognition of medical education in Germany
Since April 2012, a new law has come into force, which established the procedure for confirming the profession of foreign doctors. Now foreigners from abroad make a request for the recognition of a diploma in Germany. Conducting medical activities without permission is prohibited.

Medical training in Germany

The profession of a doctor among Germans is considered one of the most prestigious. Therefore, the requirements for knowledge for admission to medical specialties are the highest. To become a psychologist, for example, you need to study at school only perfectly. With a GPA less than 2.0 – in Russian 4.0 and above – becoming a German doctor is not worth even trying.
