When St. Kirill was building the Belozersky Monastery, all the neighboring residents, marveling at the success of the construction, considered Kirill to be a great rich man. With such a rumor, one greedy landowner gathered all his servants and went into the night to rob Cyril and the monastery. Approaching the fence, the intruders see that a myriad of warriors with drawn sabers are walking around the monastery. The robbers waited until morning for these warriors to fall asleep, but did not wait; so we went home. On the second night, the intruders noticed even more soldiers, and again returned without success. When morning came, the landowner sent a servant to the monastery to find out which regiment was in the monastery and how long he would stay here.
The messenger, returning, reported that for more than a week not a single pilgrim was in the monastery, not only the troops. Then the landowner realized that the monastery was guarded by the angels of God and repented of his intention. nine0005

For several years the heresy of Theodotion was overshadowed by a man who had previously led a pious life.
One day, during his deepest sleep, an angel suddenly appears and with blows reminds him that he wrongly betrayed the original faith. b) Angels appeared to the holy martyrs during their sufferings and strengthened them in this achievement.
Angels, appearing to the holy martyr Akakios, washed his wounds with warm water and healed them. When the holy martyr was imprisoned and overlaid with iron fetters, the angels appeared to him again and released him from the fetters.
An angel appeared to the Holy Martyrs Eustathius and Anatoly, imprisoned and sentenced to starvation, released them from their bonds, made them healthy, and giving them manna for food, said: “In all your sufferings I will be with you, for I was sent from Christ the Lord to keep you.” nine0005
When Theodore Tiron was praying in a tightly closed and sealed prison, angels joined his prayer. c) Angels take a special part in the salvation of the human soul.

Archangel Michael, appearing to Saint Evdokia, said: “I am the prince of God’s angels; I have been given the ministry to accept sinners who repent and lead them into a blessed life. There is much joy in heaven to heavenly faces, if a sinner repents; for God, the Father of all, does not want the destruction of the soul of man, created in His image. All angels rejoice when they see a human soul adorned with truth; they greet her like their sister.”
The angel who appeared to St. Gregory the Dialogist said: “The Lord sent me to you so that I could be with you throughout your life and lift up your prayers to God, so that you would receive everything that you ask with faith.

Saint Nifont once saw a harlot in the form of a young angel crying at the gates of the house and asked him about the reason for crying. The angel answered: “In this house with the harlot there is a man, for whose protection I was given from God. I can not see the lawlessness that he creates. Saint Paul the Simple had the same gift of insight into the spiritual world. Once, during the evening singing, he watched who entered the church with what disposition. d) Angels keep those who trust in the Lord unharmed from evil, when it either only awaits them or has already overtaken them.
How do the angels act in the first case? The psalm answers: they will take you in their hands, but do not stomp your foot on a stone, i.
e. just as a mother, when a child is learning to walk, watches its every step, and if it sees that it may stumble over something, it immediately takes it in its arms: similarly do angels with people who, having childish devotion to the will of God, are entrusted to them supervision. Angels with maternal care protect them from stumbling against a stone, i.e. do not allow them to the temptation and temptation of sin. Everyone receives such protection from sinful temptations and troubles from angels. Of this comforting truth our own experience can attest. Not infrequently we also avoid dangers that we learn about after we have passed them. Who, if not angels, avert these dangers, invisible to us, but obvious to their clairvoyance? Whose, if not theirs, secret suggestions are removed from the road, on which we would certainly stumble on a stone that is harmful to us?
e) Angels take part in a person at the hour of his death. nine0004
The holy guardian angels do not leave us during our transition from temporary to eternal life. “Always keep in your mind the thought of death,” says St. Theodore the Studite, “consider the very separation of the soul from the body—a separation that will be under the commanding supervision of your angel. Therefore, the Holy Church commands us to turn to the guardian angel with such a prayer: “Before the onago (terrible) judgment, do not forget your servant, my leader .
.. cover me coming from the body, if not to see the vile face of the demon” (Kan. Eng.-Kran .). We believe that the presence of a guardian angel and his bright, joyful gaze eases the difficult moments of separation of the soul from the body and will calm the good Christian, who has not deprived himself of this last heavenly help on earth. nine0005
The Holy Church also believes that the guardian angel is the patron of the Christian soul even after it is separated from the body, during its passage through ordeals. That is why each of us, Christians, prays to the guardian angel: “Be our protector and champion invincible, when I go through the trials of the fierce world-keeper” (Kan. Eng.-kran.).
The Holy Fathers of the Church testify the same. For example, St. Cyril of Alexandria, in his word on the exodus of the soul, says: “The soul is supported by holy angels in the procession through the air and, rising, meets the ordeals that guard the sunrise, hold and stop ascending souls.
” In what exactly and how the intercession of the guardian angel during the ordeals can be expressed, we find clear evidence of this in the life of the Monk Nifont, Bishop of Cyprus. Once upon a time praying in church and raising your eyes to heaven, Rev. Niphon saw the heavens open and many angels, some of which descended to earth, while others ascended to heaven, raising human souls there. Two angels were carrying a soul up high. When they approached the fornication ordeal, demons came out from there, saying with anger: “This is our soul; how dare you carry her past when she is ours?” The angels answered: “What sign do you have on her, calling her yours?” The demons answered: “She sinned to death, defiled herself, condemning her neighbor and, even worse, died without repentance, and what do you say to that?” The angels answered: “Truly, we do not believe either you or your father, the devil, until we ask the angel of this guardian soul.” The guardian angel said: “True, this soul has sinned a lot, but from the hour from which it fell ill, it began to cry and confess its sins to God.
If God has forgiven her, He knows why; He has power. Glory to that righteous judgment.” Then the angels, having laughed at the demons, entered with their souls into the heavenly gates. nine0005
The believing Christian soul is waiting for consolation and help from his guardian angel, and on that terrible “day, when thrones are set up, books are unbent, and the Old Denmi sits down, and people are judged, and angels appear, and the earth shakes, and everyone is horrified and tremble ; then,” the Christian prays, “show your philanthropy on me, and deliver Gehenna, implore Christ… When a terrible trumpet voice resurrects me from the earth for judgment, then stand near me quietly and joyfully, take away my fear with the hope of salvation” (Kan. But, of course, the guardian angel “quiet and joyful” will only be close to the person who in this life, according to the apostle, fought a good feat and kept the faith. On the contrary, he will be far from such a soul, which here, on earth, has closed the gates of the Kingdom of Heaven for itself.
The Monk Nifont also saw such a soul, drawn by demons to hell. It was the soul of some slave, whom the master starved and wounded. He, not enduring torment, being taught by demons, took a rope and strangled himself. The angel of this soul, walking afar, wept bitterly, and the demons rejoiced. How grievous is the sin of suicide! nine0005
The Word of God teaches that not only every believer, but also every human society, every nation, every state, every church has its guardian angels.
Thus, the Evangelist Matthew tells us… that Jesus Christ, urging us to respect every believer, no matter how small and weak he may seem, said to the apostles: Look, do not despise any of these little ones; for I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven (Matthew 18:10). The Apostle Paul said: Are they not all ministering spirits sent to minister to those who have to inherit salvation? (Heb. 1:14). In both places, obviously, the existence of guardian angels is affirmed.
In the books of the Old Testament, many such events are transmitted, in which it is impossible not to see the actions characteristic of guardian angels. Such, for example, are the following events: the angel was a visible companion of Tobias in the city of Ragi, delivered him from danger at the Tigris River, gave beneficial advice, arranged everything for the good, and, most of all, served to the happiness of the pious family, arranged the healing of Tobit (Tov. 5 ;b;9; eleven). The books of Kings say that the prophet Elijah, in his marvelous ministry, repeatedly received benefits, instructions, and guidance from an angel (1 Kings 19:2-19). Abraham, sending his servant to get a wife for his son, said to him among other things: The Lord God … will send His angel before you, and you will take a wife for my son from there (Genesis, 24, 7). There are places in the Old Testament which, according to the unanimous understanding of the Fathers of the Church, conclude the doctrine of guardian angels.
These are mainly the following places: the angel of the Lord camps (from the original Hebrew: the angels of the Lord camp) around those who fear Him and delivers them (Ps, 33, 8), and another following place: evil will not come to you and the wound will not come near your body. Like a commandment to Your angels about you, keep you in all your ways (Ps. 90, 10-11). Sufficiently clear indications are presented by Holy Scripture in favor of the idea that every human society, every nation and every church has its own special guardian angels. Thus, the prophet Daniel speaks of the prayerful intercession before God of two guardian angels, the guardian angel, or the prince of the Persian kingdom, and the guardian angel of the people of Israel. The first angel prayed to God to keep the people of Israel under the dominion of the Persian kingdom, the other, on the contrary, prayed for the liberation of this people from the Persian yoke. Daniel also says that together with these two angels, the angel-prince of the Hellenic kingdom prayed to God (Dan, 10, 20).
If not only the people of Israel, but also the peoples of Persia and Hellenism had their own special patron angels, then from this we can rightfully conclude that every other nation has its own guardian angel.—The Evangelist John in the first chapter of the Apocalypse conveys the word of the Lord about seven angels of the seven Churches of Asia Minor (20th century). True, the name of angels here should be understood as the bishops of these churches, but at the same time, according to the teaching of the Fathers of the Church, here we should also see the expression of the truth that each church has its own guardian angel. “I am sure,” says, for example, Gregory the Theologian, “that a special angel patronizes each church, as John teaches me in Revelation.” nine0005
