Word to schoolchildren

Petr Kovalenko,

School No. 1440, 11th grade

The school creates excellent conditions for me to prepare for university entrance. In my school, teachers carefully delve into our educational process, try to ensure maximum comfort and completeness of education. Graduates are usually nervous about the upcoming exams, but the school fully provides all the necessary knowledge so that I can confidently follow my dream and enter exactly the university I want to.

Yana Salakhova,

School No. 2107, Grade 11

The right choice – responsible preparation! We are responsible for our future, and the school helps us in this. If the student sets his priorities correctly and starts preparing in advance, then he will definitely pass the exams well. The school helps me personally in this and provides all the conditions for good preparation. Focusing on the subjects in which I will take the USE will give me time and the opportunity to spend my energy efficiently.

Natalya D.,

mother of high school students of school No. 1797

The focus of eleventh graders since February 1 on preparing for the Unified State Examination is another important step for the development of school education and strengthening the ties between the school and the university. What will it give the children? Focus only on those subjects that are necessary not only for passing the exam, but also for studying at a university. This is an opportunity for graduates to approach the USE as concentrated, prepared, calm and confident as possible. After school, children will not run around tutors, they will have time for rest, sports, and creativity. This is so lacking in the senior class.

Milan Kirkov,

School No. 2107, Grade 11

The choice of subjects for advanced training in 11th grade is conscious learning, not formal class attendance. It is good that the school will give such an opportunity. My admission to the university of my dreams depends on this, and subsequently my job.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Law on Education and Educational Standards do not stipulate requirements for the amount of hours required to study a particular subject or topic. Each school, when drawing up the curriculum, determines the number of hours for each topic independently, based on its experience in the applied educational methods. Moreover, based on the results of the children’s mastering certain topics, the program can be adjusted throughout the year in order to best meet the needs of the students.

As a rule, the curriculum consists not only of new topics in the subject, but also of repetition of the material and several test papers. Thus, all planned topics in each subject can be completed by February 1, 2023 by using effective teaching methods, reducing the time for repetition and reducing the number of additional tests.

For example, in Russian and foreign languages in the second half of the 11th grade, no new topics are traditionally studied, but the development of skills and abilities in those already studied is expected, which will be implemented as part of workshops to prepare for the USE.

Yes, at the same time, after February 1, Moscow schoolchildren will switch to working according to flexible curricula, that is, classes will be held not only within the classroom (lessons), but also in small groups.

Groups for organizing workshops to prepare for the USE will be formed in accordance with the level of preparation of schoolchildren and their focus on the exam result.

In the second half of the year, the educational program of 11-graders will include the following subjects:

  • Regardless of the profile of study, the schedule of high school students will include lessons that are important for personal development and maintaining health: mathematics, history, social studies, literature and physical education;
  • for children, depending on the profile of the class or being in a pre-professional class, an in-depth study of profile subjects will continue;
  • all high school students will continue to study the Russian language as part of a workshop to prepare for the Unified State Examination;
  • , workshops on the subjects chosen by the student to prepare for the Unified State Examination will be added to the schedule.

In the second half of the year, the daily routine of 11th graders will not change.

  • The start, end and duration schedule of the lessons will remain the same.
  • The maximum number of lessons per week for 11th graders will also remain the same and, in accordance with sanitary norms and rules, will not exceed 34 lessons per week.
  • The changes will only affect the schedule, which will be adjusted in accordance with the new curriculum.

The number of students in a group will depend on the demand for the subject, but will not exceed the usual class size. What is important is not how many people study in a group, but the principle of its formation. In addition, modern pedagogical research has already proved the independence of the result of schoolchildren from the size of the class.

Groups for organizing workshops to prepare for the USE will be formed in accordance with the level of preparation of schoolchildren and their focus on the exam result. The school will independently distribute the children into groups based on the level of knowledge at the current moment, which will be determined by diagnostic work on subjects. The composition of such groups is often small.

There are no restrictions on the number of items – the child can choose as many as he wants.

No, the teaching load will not be increased:

  • the schedule for the beginning, end and duration of lessons will remain the same,
  • The number of lessons in subjects that end on February 1, 2023 will not increase. The program for them will be mastered within the same timetable.

Yes, students can improve their grades in the certificate throughout the school year, even if the subject has already been taken and classes have ended.

  • After passing the retake, you can correct any quarter, semi-annual mark, not only for the 11th, but also for the 10th grade.
  • The format of the retake in each school may be different, so students can contact the class teacher to clarify the details.

This is possible, the main thing is that the level of permissible teaching load, which is determined by sanitary rules and norms, is not exceeded. For successful preparation for the USE, it is recommended to concentrate on studying those subjects that the student plans to take on the exam.

If for some reason a child changes his mind about taking a profile subject or chooses another one, he can contact the school administration and resolve this issue on an individual basis.

Until November 1, 2022, parents of students must submit an application to the school administration for transferring their child to an individual curriculum and indicate in the application the subjects for which he plans to take the exam. The application form is sent by the class teacher.

Yes. Despite the fact that the study of a foreign language ends on January 31, for all graduates who want it, the school will organize foreign language courses “Communicative Workshop”. As part of the course, you will practice speaking skills that are a priority in mastering a foreign language.

The project starts in all districts of Moscow, the list of schools can be viewed at the link.

how to organize family schools with distance learning

What is a family school

According to Russian law, a child has the right to study the school curriculum not only in educational institutions, but also independently – this form of education is called family education. Parents who choose homeschooling need to decide for themselves what the educational process of their child will look like. One option would be a family school.

The main difference between a family school and other types of family education is that parents of several children come together to teach children together. As a rule, they hire private teachers, and also rent a room for classes. In a family school, children study in small groups. Such organizations are more like communities and have a horizontal management structure – all decisions are made by parents together.

Family schools, or family classes, are informal institutions. Unlike public and private schools, they are not accredited or licensed. Therefore, the family school can choose any curriculum: not necessarily approved by the Ministry of Education. The educational and organizational freedoms of the family school are not limited by anything other than internal decisions and regulations.

Of course, the more freedom, the greater the responsibility, and parents have to figure out how to organize the educational process, providing for all the details. For example, in some family schools there are only three school days a week, in others there is no homework, in others there are meta-subject lessons where the child simultaneously studies biology and chemistry, geography and mathematics. The family school can study in person or remotely. The family class allows you to apply a variety of pedagogical methods, and parents control the content and format of classes.

Benefits and Challenges of the Family Class

In a sense, family schools take the best of traditional schooling and family education formats.

  • The training schedule and intensity are tailored to the individual needs of the child. The schedule at the family school is flexible: it is drawn up taking into account the wishes of parents and children, and it is also easy to change it if after some time the format proves to be ineffective.
  • Students come to class on certain days and times. This helps to maintain the mode that is so lacking at home.
  • In a public school, parents are often excluded from the educational process of their child. The family school helps parents and children to communicate more on academic topics, make decisions together, control the program, and more fundamentally share with their child the experience of learning about the world and growing up.
  • In family schools, children study in mini-groups, which allows them to interact with their peers. The opportunity to spend time outside the home and interact with other children helps the child become more independent.
  • The family school cuts costs for the family when hiring private tutors, as all members of the family class can pay for lessons pooled from the general budget.

Parents usually struggle because they have to make joint decisions with other families. Inability to agree, different ideas about learning – these are all difficulties that organizers of family schools often face. When there are no external regulations, it is necessary to devote much more attention and time to discussions about how all participants see the educational process. Sometimes parents come to the need to create a certain governing body or council, to which the decision of the main issues is delegated.

What to do and what to think about if you decide to organize a family school

Today in Russia there are different family schools that recruit new students for a fee. You can enroll your child in one of your favorites or even create your own. If you want to join an existing family school, the advantage is that you do not have to create an organization from scratch. The obvious disadvantage is that you will need to adapt to the rules already established in the family school. If you are ready to organize a family class on your own, we have prepared for you a list of necessary steps and questions that you should pay attention to.

Step 1

Transfer your child to family education. You can find a detailed guide on how this process works on our website. If your child was previously in a public school, you will need to drop out of it. You will be attached to the public school once a year before passing the exams. It is better to apply a couple of months before the end of the academic year.

Step 2

Find like-minded people. This question can be discussed with your acquaintances and friends who also have children. If your child is in a club, art or music school, you can talk to other parents in your group. Another option is to advertise on social media.

Step 3

Decide on the format of training. Answer your questions:

– how many days a week can you study to master the program and so that the children have enough time for sports, hobbies and recreation;
– what lesson duration seems most suitable for your child;
– whether you want to break the school students by age or the guys can study all together;
– whether face-to-face classes are important to you or do you prefer online lessons;
– how do you and your child feel about homework.

Step 4

Find teachers. It is important to find teachers whom you will trust as competent professionals. You can search for them, for example, on tutor sites. Answer your questions:

– what do you expect from a teacher;
– do you need a strong subject teacher who can easily go beyond the school curriculum;
– is it important to you that the teacher has a psychological or pedagogical education;
– what kind of work experience do you expect from a tutor: school experience, experience in preparing for state exams;
— whether the teacher will prepare children for the Olympiads.

Step 5

Work with other parents and teachers to agree on a curriculum. It is also important to decide by what criteria you will evaluate the work of teachers and the success of children in mastering the material, since not all family schools give grades.

Step 6

Decide what kind of extracurricular activities you need besides the standard school subjects. Depending on the interests of the children, you can try to negotiate cooperation with various organizations: a music school or sports clubs, a botanical garden or a historical museum. Some government agencies and even private organizations provide incentives for group visits or room rentals.

Step 7

Establish the school’s overall budget, which will include rent and teacher salaries, as well as (optional) field trips, extracurricular activities for the children, textbooks, and classroom equipment such as microscopes for biology classes.

Most important

  • In most cases, family school is an experiment, and it is difficult to guarantee success or predict failure. If you decide to transfer to a family school, you should learn more about the experience of parents whose children study in this format. Don’t forget that you can always go back to public school.
  • This format of education is suitable for parents who have the strength and time to completely refuse the school’s help in organizing their studies. In fact, the parent will have to become an educational manager for several years.
  • The main advantage of the family school is the focus on the needs of the child.
