Laughing Jack « OTSTRAXA.su

Laughing Jack is a scary story about a mother who discovers that her little son has an imaginary friend.

LAUGHING JACK

It was a nice summer day, my 5 year old son, James, was playing outside. He was a quiet boy and mostly played with himself. He never had many friends, but he always had a rich imagination. I was in the kitchen feeding our dog Fido when I heard James talking to someone in the backyard. I wonder who he might be talking to. Maybe he finally has a friend?

As a single mother, it is difficult for me to keep an eye on my son, so I decided to go and check on him. James was alone. Was he talking to himself? But I could have sworn I heard someone else’s voice.

“James! Time to go home!” I called.

He came and sat down at the kitchen table.

“James… who were you talking to?” I asked.

James hesitated for a moment.

“I was playing with my new friend,” he said with a smile.

“Does your friend have a name?” I asked.

James looked at me intently before answering.

“His name is Laughing Jack”.

“Yes? Strange name,” I said. “What does your friend look like?”

“He’s a clown,” James replied. “He has long hair and a big, conical nose. He has long arms and wide pants with striped socks and is always smiling.”

I realized that my son was talking to an imaginary friend. I guess it’s normal for kids his age to have imaginary friends, especially if they don’t have anyone to play with.

The rest of the day passed uneventfully, and when it got dark I put James to bed. I covered him, kissed him, and turned off the nightlight before closing the door to his room. I was very tired, so I soon decided to go to bed myself. I had a terrible nightmare…

It was dark. I was in some seedy amusement park. I was scared, I walked through endless spaces with empty tents, abandoned rides and playhouses. The place itself looked terrible. Everything was black and white, the prize toys hung in loops, and everyone had evil smiles embroidered on their faces. It seemed that the whole park was watching me, although there was not a single living soul around.

Then, all of a sudden, I heard the music playing. The sounds echoed through the park, mesmerizing. I followed the sounds to the circus tent, almost in a trance, unable to stop my legs from moving forward. It was absolutely dark, the only source of light was a spotlight under the dome of the circus. As I walked into the light, the music slowed down and I found myself singing along to the music, unable to stop.

The music stopped just before its climax, and suddenly the lights came on. They were blinding and all I could see was a small dark shape walking towards me. Then another appeared, and another, and another. There were several dozen of them, and they all came to me. I couldn’t move, my legs were frozen, and I could only watch the eerie shadows approach.

When they got closer, I saw that they were children. Looking closely, I saw that they were all terribly mutilated and mutilated. Some had their bodies cut up, others were horribly burned, and some had their limbs cut off and parts of their bodies, even their eyes! The children surrounded me, clutching at my flesh, they threw me to the ground, tearing me apart.

When the children were killing me, and I began to fall into darkness, I heard only laughter, terrible, sinister laughter.

The next morning I woke up in a cold sweat. After taking a few deep breaths, I looked around and saw several James figurines sitting on my nightstand, facing me. I exhaled, James must have woken up early and put them here. I collected his toys and went to James’ room. However, when I entered his room, I saw that James was still sound asleep. I just shrugged and returned the toys to his box, then I headed to the living room.

After a while, James woke up and I made him breakfast. He was quiet and seemed a bit sluggish, probably not getting enough sleep. I decided to ask him about the toys: “James, dear, did you bring the toys into your mother’s room in the morning?” His eyes flickered up to me for a moment, then back down again.

“Laughing Jack did it.”

I rolled my eyes and said, “Well, then tell Laughing Jack to keep toys in your room.”

James nodded and finished his breakfast, then he decided to go play in the backyard. I went to rest in the living room and I must have dozed off because I didn’t wake up until a few hours later.

I felt a little anxious. I had to check on James. It’s been over two hours since I last saw him. I went out into the backyard, but James was no longer there. I started to get nervous, so I called him loudly.

“JAMES! JAMES, WHERE ARE YOU?!”

That’s when I heard a giggle, in the front yard. I rushed through the back gate to the front of the house. James was sitting on the sidewalk. I breathed a sigh of relief and walked over to him.

“James, how many times have I told you to stay in the backyard… James, what do you eat?”

James looked at me, reached into his pocket and pulled out a handful of candies. This greatly alarmed me.

“James, who gave you these candies?”

James just stared at me but said nothing.

“JAMES!” I cried. “Please just tell your mom where you got these lollipops.”

James lowered his head and said, “Laughing Jack gave them to me.”

My heart sank and I knelt down to look into his eyes.

“James, I’m fed up with this Laughing Jack, he’s not real! This is very serious, I need to know who gave you the lollipops!”

I saw tears in my son’s eyes.

“But Mom, Laughing Jack gave me candy.”

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, James never lied to me, but what he told me was impossible. I made him spit out the lollipop and threw it away with the others. James seemed to be calm. Maybe I’m just taking things too close to my heart. That night I put James to bed as usual and decided to go to bed early myself.

Suddenly, I was awakened by a loud bang in the kitchen. I jumped out of bed and ran down the stairs. When I got to the kitchen, I was horrified. The contents of all the shelves were scattered around the kitchen, and the dead body of our dog Fido hung on a chandelier under the ceiling. Her stomach was cut open and stuffed with hard candies, the same ones that James had eaten that day.

I was quickly snapped out of shock by a scream from James’s room, followed by a crash. I quickly grabbed a knife from the kitchen table drawer and ran up the stairs as fast as a mother can run when her baby is in danger. I burst through the bedroom door and turned on the light. Everything in the room was knocked down and scattered on the floor, my poor son was lying in bed, crying and trembling with fear. He wet himself and a yellow puddle formed on the bedspread.

I grabbed my child, ran out of the house, and ran to the neighbors. Luckily, they haven’t slept yet. They let me use their phone and I called the police. Soon they arrived and I explained what had happened. They looked at me like I was crazy. They searched the house, but found only a dead dog and two trashed rooms.

The officer told me that someone must have broken into the house, done all this and quickly fled when they heard me going up the stairs. I knew it wasn’t true. All doors were locked and not a single window was open. Whoever was in my house, he did not come from outside.

James stayed at home the next day. I didn’t want him to disappear from my sight. I went to the garage and found my old baby monitor and installed it in my room.

“If something happens in his room tonight, I can hear it.”

I went to the kitchen, took the biggest knife and put it on my bedside table.

“Imaginary friend or not, I won’t let anyone hurt my boy.

Night soon fell. I put James to bed. He was afraid, but I promised that I would not let anything happen to him. I covered him, kissed him and turned off the night light. Before closing the door, I whispered to him, “Good night, James, I love you.”

I tried to hold on so as not to fall asleep, but after a few hours, I felt that I was still falling asleep. My baby will be safe tonight and I need to sleep. But as soon as I laid my head on the pillow, I heard a faint noise from the baby monitor I had placed on the bedside table. At first, the noise was like interference, like in a radio. Then it turned into a quiet moan. Maybe James is sleeping like that?

Then I heard him… laughter from my nightmare… this horrible laugh.

I jumped out of bed and grabbed a knife. I rushed to James’ room and flung open the door. I tried turning on the light, but it didn’t come on. I took a step and felt warm, thick liquid under my feet. Suddenly, James’s nightlight lit up, and I was presented with a picture of absolute horror.

James’s body was nailed to the wall, nails were driven into his hands and feet. His chest was cut open wide and his internal organs hung down to the floor. His eyes and tongue were removed along with most of his teeth. I felt sick, I could hardly believe that this was my son.

Then I heard his soft, desperate groan again. James was still alive! My child, my poor child, through such terrible pain continued to cling to life. I ran across the room and vomited on the floor, but my attack was interrupted by a terrible laughter from behind me.

I turned around, still wiping the bile from my mouth, and then the villain responsible for all this horror, Laughing Jack, stepped out of the shadows. He had ghostly white skin and messy, shoulder-length black hair. His piercing white eyes were framed in black circles. A wry smile revealed a row of sharp-edged teeth. And his skin didn’t look like leather at all, more like plastic or rubber. He wore a spotted, black and white clown suit with striped sleeves and socks. His body was ugly, his long arms hung far below his waist, and he moved as if he had no bones at all, like a rag doll.

He let out a disgusting laugh, as if he wanted to tell me that he was pleased with my reaction to the result of his “work”. Then he slowly turned towards James and began to laugh an even more horrible laugh. It was enough to bring me out of my state of terror.

“GET AWAY FROM HIM!” I shouted.

I rushed at the monster, raising the knife above his head, and hit him from top to bottom, but as soon as the knife touched him, he disappeared in a cloud of black smoke. The knife went right through and pierced through James’s still beating heart. Spatters of warm blood fell on my face…

“No… What have I done? My child, I killed my child!”

I fell to my knees and heard the siren of a police car approaching… It got louder and louder…

“My boy, my sweet boy… I promised that my mother would protect you… But I couldn’t… I’m sorry James… I feel so sorry…”

The police soon arrived, finding me in James’s room. I still clutched the knife, stained with the blood of my child. The judgment was swift. I was found not guilty by reason of complete insanity.

I was admitted to a psychiatric hospital for the criminally insane, where I spent the last two months. It’s not too bad here, but right now I’m awake because the music from my nightmare is playing outside the window. I will talk about this in the morning with my orderlies…

Meeting with Laughing Jack

My name is Connor and I am 35 years old. Don’t call me a psycho after telling this story, I’m really still creepy. I haven’t thought about this story in a very long time.
This happened 25 years ago. I was 10 years old and I had a younger sister – Susie, 6 years old. I loved Susie as I should love my own sister. Since we had no parents, I felt responsible for this little girl. Our parents died in a fire, leaving me and my sister in an orphanage. I can’t complain that we felt bad there, they took care of us, we had friends…
In the orphanage they let us go for a walk at lunchtime – from 4 o’clock to 6 o’clock. We walked on our playground. And not far from the orphanage, on the outskirts of the city, there was an abandoned amusement park.
It has long been empty, overgrown with moss. The main gate of this park was closed with a heavy steel lock. And no matter how hard the curious children and teenagers tried, they could not get into the abandoned park. And then rumors spread that this park was cursed. And although I was small and ten years old, I did not believe in such nonsense. But despite this, I still did not let my Susie go to the amusement park. You never know gopniks or alcoholics … God forbid – maniacs! But in general, Susie was calm and obedient, she did not go far from me anywhere.

It was a normal morning. We all got up at seven in the morning (as we usually got up in the orphanage) and trudged to breakfast. At the table, we talked with our peers (in the orphanage where we were, there were many kids, from 5 to 13 years old). Susie was clutching her favorite toy, a teddy bear, holding a similar teddy lollipop in her hand. This toy was presented to her for the New Year by senior educators. They adored Susie. Firstly, she was cute, and secondly, she was a role model! She named the bear Sosik-Morozik-Konfetkovich (don’t laugh, well, she was still a child! Her fantasy is ****) XD but I liked the name. And what? But it will be possible to screw up. But the bear’s diminutive name SOMETIMES was simple and short – Sosya.
So, hugging Sausie Frost, Susie hummed a song under her breath and waited for breakfast to be brought to her.
I remember that day quite clearly – so I can say with confidence that for breakfast we had rice porridge, compote, and coleslaw. After breakfast, we were taken to a terribly boring exercise. The teachers were touched by looking at Susie, who was doing exercises with Sausik-Frost (no, guys, I can’t pronounce or print his name X without laughing))
After the exercises, we were sent on our own business. Who drew, who sculpted cranks from plasticine, who jumped on a trampoline, etc. Susie took out two sheets of paper and colored crayons, seated Sausik (…) in front of her and put a green felt-tip pen into his hand. She began to hum a song under her breath again and draw a house, grass, me, her and Sosya.
I watched for a while, and then I went with my best friend Casey to play with cars: I was still a child! Time passed unnoticed. We were invited to dinner. For lunch we had pea soup, lemon tea, fish puree and vinaigrette salad. Yes, they fed us there very nutritiously).
After dinner we went to a music lesson. After singing scales and other warm-up songs, the music teacher asked Susie to sing her song about spring. Susie knew this song by heart from the age of four. Her voice was sonorous, gentle and melodic, so the music teacher singled her out in particular. Susie took Sausik-Morozik in her arms and began to sing the song “Spring-spring-brought joy to us.”
And then us – Thank God! – let go for a walk. It was much more fun on the street than in the orphanage. Yes, there were a lot of toys and all sorts of things, but outside we played on the playground. There were slides, swings, all sorts of labyrinths. In winter, they even built a real ice palace there! Susie and her girlfriends and the teddy bear went to the slides, while Casey and I started digging in the sandbox.
The time was already approaching six o’clock in the evening, I began to look through the eyes of Susie among her friends. It’s strange – there were friends, but Susie was not. I was terribly worried and turned to the teacher. Susie has never gone missing before. Everyone started looking for her.
I blamed myself for her loss. After all, I was the only one who played cars with Casey for fifteen minutes when Susie disappeared! By eight o’clock everyone was exhausted. They were about to inform the police when red Susie came out from behind the bushes. I rushed to her and kissing her on the cheeks (and bursting into tears) began to scold and question her. All the teachers were alarmed, and without letting the girl say a word, they dragged her to the orphanage. There they gave her hot tea with cake and cupcakes and began to question her. Susie just smiled happily and said:
– And I was in the circus.
We were all silent for several minutes. Those few minutes seemed like an eternity to us. Seeing our confusion, Susie shrank and blushed all over.
– Did I do something wrong? she asked softly, hugging Sosya to her.
– Where have you been?! – I yelled, – I don’t have to lie!
I was not myself from anger. People, what would you do if your dear person disappeared?! Susie cried
– I’m not lying! she whimpered. “It was Jack who invited me to the circus… here… here… here’s the ticket.”
She opened her pen and handed us a crumpled red ticket. It had a poster of a rainbow clown with blue eyes and fiery hair, multicolored clothes and a cone for a nose. He was juggling candy in the picture. Under the picture was printed: “Only today!” I looked at the teachers. They examined the paper with boundless curiosity.
– What else Jack? Mrs. Grace asked.
– Laughing, – Susie whispered softly, – There he is. Only it’s not as colorful. He is a black and white clown and he is very funny…
Susie giggled as she said that. I knew her well, and I heard something unusual and inexplicable in her giggle…
Mrs. Grace’s tutor took the ticket from Susie’s hands and shook her by the shoulders.
– Don’t lie to us! How dare you go to who knows where from our children’s home?! Nobody allowed you and you ruled perfectly! she screamed.
Susie kept crying… She said in a plaintive voice:
– But Jackie said that nothing bad would happen. He said he would bring me in on time. He said no one would notice.
I silently watched Susie. Mrs. Grace released her and sent us into the room.
In our little room, I never said a word to Susie. I was very disgusted by the very idea that Susie had run away to no one knows where with some unknown person. And then it dawned on me.
– Susan, where did you go? I jumped up to her.
“To an abandoned park,” she said as quietly as possible.
All my fears were confirmed. I was scared. It was impossible not to be scared. I was between a rock and a hard place: if you tell everything to the teachers, they will scold Susie very strongly. But if you don’t talk, then Susie can run away again. I made up my mind. From now on, I will personally walk with her. But the educators – not a word.
The next day has come. During the walk, I noticed that Susie walks around worried. I did not question her, I thought, “She will tell if she wants to.” And she told. I felt her pull on my sleeve. Susie looked at me with a worried look and said,
– Connor, we need to leave. Urgently.
I didn’t understand her. I just leaned closer, and Susie began to whisper in my ear:
– Laughing Jackie is waiting for me. We need to go to him.
I was afraid. But Susie looked at me with such a pleading look. .. I couldn’t help but say:
– Okay. Went.
I knew that if I refused her, Susie would think I was a coward. I did not want to sink in the eyes of my sister.
We carefully made our way through the bars while the caregivers paid no attention to us. I approached the park gates hoping that they would not open, because they had not been opened for over 50 years! I froze in place as Susie easily opened the gate. They creaked disgustingly and let us inside. Susie darted into the darkness. I woke up and started moving. I entered through the gate.
– Susie… – I called her.
I was walking past abandoned rides. All the slides, the ferris wheels, all the stalls with cotton candy were covered with moss. I got scared and was ready to put it in my pants. And then I was scared to death when I heard the song.

She was subdued, old, and even though there were no words, I recognized her. It was Pop goes the weasel. I sat down on the ground. Susie was nowhere, I was enveloped in this song. It was ringing in my ears!.. Suddenly I saw the light from the spotlights. I woke up and ran towards them. The music was still ringing in my ears, slowing my steps. All these attractions caught my eye, and I thought that I was slowly losing my mind.

The music continued to ring until I reached the big palacti. As I understand it, it was a circus. I cautiously entered the dark tent, and at first I saw nothing. But then I heard Susie laugh. I began to slowly lose consciousness. The last thing I saw was a clown. Black and white clown with lollipops in his hands.

I woke up already in the orphanage. The first thing I thought of was Susie. I sat up in bed and realized that something had happened. The teachers sat next to me and were silent. Susie came up behind me and silently hugged me. I didn’t understand what happened. Why all this mess? I stared inquiringly at the teachers, a bunch of questions swirling in my head. What happened yesterday? What is happening now? Mrs. Grace began to scold me. It seemed that she would even beat me, if not for the other teachers present.
– …Is it possible?! she yelled.
I didn’t hear her. I silently and stupidly stared at the floor. My thoughts were on yesterday. The caregivers left after two hours, and then it was my turn to yell at Susie. The poor girl covered her face with her hands and silently endured my cries. And then I noticed something. Sausik-Morozik is gone. Instead, Susie had a rag doll in her hands. The doll looked at me with its blue eyes.
I fell on the sofa. The doll smiled. I asked Susie:
– Where did you get this doll?.. And where is your bear?
– Laughing Jack really wanted Sausik, – Susie answered timidly, – He liked the plush candy in Sausik’s paws. And he handed me this doll.
I couldn’t believe that Susie had traded her favorite teddy bear for a doll. Moreover… the doll looked kind and cheerful, but there was something in her eyes… the first time Susie giggled, I noticed it in her eyes too… I plopped down on the bed and cried into the pillow.
– What are you, what are you, Connor? – Susie fussed, – Let’s go to Jackie and ask my Sosya back? ..
– No!!! I yelled and looked angrily at Susie, screaming hysterically, “I won’t go there again!” And you won’t go there again! Understood me?!
Susie shied away from me and started crying too. Without ceasing to roar, I buried myself in the pillow, praying to God that it all turned out to be just dreams. Unbeknownst to myself, I fell asleep.

…I dreamed of an abandoned amusement park. This song was ringing in my ears again. I walked through the park straight towards the tent with the circus. I went inside.
A barely audible laugh caught my ears. Such a nasty, male laugh. .. I looked around. It was so dark in the tent that no one could be seen. And suddenly… a table appeared in front of me. Large huge table with all the tools. I carefully looked outside the table and gasped. Children hung around the tent. They were mutilated little children. Their toys were nailed to their chests with a nail in their chests. And there was a clown on the table. Black and white clown. He chewed candy in his mouth and laughed, crossing his legs.

I woke up. It was night. I torpedoed to Susie’s bed, she wasn’t there. I jumped out the window in my pajamas and ran towards the amusement park. I didn’t give a fuck, scared or not, I just ran into an amusement park. A strong wind blew. There was no music. I stopped in front of the tent. Walking around it, I entered from the back entrance. The tent was lit by a lamp above. I hid behind a leather wall (well, or what does the tent consist of?) It was light in the tent. Some boards were covered with curtains and mantles. And in the middle stood a table, large, wooden, with tools. I saw Susie. She laughed merrily, brushing reflex tears from her face. I saw a clown. Black and white clown. He offered Susie lollipops, laughed. He had long arms, matted black hair, gray eyes, a cone instead of a nose, and he was dressed in all black and white. He said with a laugh:
– Let’s play, Susie?
Susie nodded her head and fell silent, looking at the clown with a smile.
I understand it was Laughing Jack. He sat the girl on the table and began to slowly pull off her pajamas.
– The game is called “Master,” he said. “You don’t need that.” Don’t be afraid, as soon as you and I play, I will return your toy to you.
Looking at his kind and affectionate smile, Susie took off her pajamas, put the doll away and remained in her panties. I closed my eyes and covered my ears with my hands.
And he did the right thing.
Susie’s heart-rending scream rang out. I couldn’t take it anymore and opened my eyes.
Jack tied chains around Susie’s arms and legs to a plank lying on the table and gagged her mouth with a rag. Then he leaned on the table and began to think.
– What to do with you? he thought.
And suddenly he smiled. He took a scalpel and cut a thin line into Susie’s arms. She tried to scream, but the nasty rag interfered with her. Laughing Jack parted Susie’s skin so that the meat was visible, and the guilt rolled out. To his own laughter, Laughing Jack cut off one end of the vein at one and the other vein and began to tie bows. I should have been throwing up. I closed my eyes.
The Laughing One seems to have done the same with the other hand. Then he forcibly opened Susie’s mouth and began to push glass into it.
– Swallow, swallow! he laughed.
I silently cried.
Laughing Jack made Susie swallow glass by cutting her neck. Susie’s mouth filled with blood, cutting off the path to air and oxygen.
– Oops, did I hurt your neck? How sad that the glass did not reach your stomach … – Jack was upset, but then his face lit up with a joyful smile. He took a scalpel and two paperclips. Having cut open the baby’s belly and secured it from above and below with paper clips, he pushed her belly with glasses and began to beat on it with a hammer.
I began to fight in hysterics, but suddenly… everything was quiet. I looked up. Laughing Jack took a nail and nailed a rag doll to the back of Susie’s head. Then he picked up the plank on which Susie’s lifeless body was nailed and hooked her up. Then all the robes and pillowcases flew off the rest of the planks and I froze. I felt vomit coming up to my throat… The bodies of mutilated children hung on hooks, on boards. I turned around slowly. Laughing Jack stood over me with a smile on his face. He wiped his hands on a towel (his hands were covered in blood) and putting a lollipop into his mouth, he stared at me with a look full of curiosity.
I sat unable to move.
– Who are you? – Laughing Jack finally asked, – Guest? And why don’t you pass, I would give you tea to drink.
I started to run. The last thing I heard from this killer was a cheerful shout:
– Hey, baby, are you leaving already? Well, okay.
