History will be taught from the first grade
History for junior grades will be inscribed in the outside world, it will not be a separate subject / Maxim Stulov / Vedomosti
Historical education will be strengthened in schools from the first grade. This was announced on April 19 by Minister of Education Sergei Kravtsov. “I have decided that history education begins in schools from the first grade,” the minister said, noting that this is not a separate subject, but “enlightenment programs. ” Now history is studied, as a rule, from the fifth grade. “They [lessons] can be carried out within the framework of the subject “World around”. Study the history of your family, your region. You can visit museums and exhibitions as part of extracurricular activities,” Kravtsov explained. He added that there are many opportunities to conduct historical education both during the classroom and extracurricular activities.
Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin at the meeting of the State Duma on April 19 also said that historical education from an early age will influence the formation of a child’s worldview. He noted that the deputies had already pointed out to the relevant minister the need to increase the number of hours devoted to history, since not all historical facts are taught at school, and the Great Patriotic War is studied in the 10th and 11th grades, “when the kids are preparing for USE and they have other priorities.”
Interspersing historical facts in the educational process of elementary school is still there, told Vedomosti a history teacher, a member of the council of the interregional trade union of educators “Teacher” Dmitry Kazakov. “In elementary school, there are various educational and educational events that tell about the main historical events,” says Kazakov. According to him, in addition to Victory Day, elementary school students know the dates of the liberation of Moscow from the Poles, the Battle of Kulikovo Field, the Battle of the Ice, etc.
As a result, each school will approach the implementation of the proposal differently, Alexander Makarov, a teacher of history and social studies at one of the Moscow schools, believes: “Having received new manuals, some teachers will take first-graders to museums, while others will continue their work.”
Experts from the Ministry of Education will have to work out options for implementing the initiative, says Irina Abankina, director of the Institute for the Development of Education at the Higher School of Economics. “If this is introduced as a subject, then this will require a change in the educational standard that has just been updated and adopted, the development of textbooks, advanced training for teachers, harmonization with SanPiN standards, since in primary grades the load is already at the limit,” she said. Vedomosti” Abankin.
The introduction of historical education in the subject “World around” will also require its restructuring, discussion with the professional community, development of manuals, she believes. “Although there are already some elements of historical enlightenment in this subject: the study of family history, the region, its cultural heritage,” Abankina points out. Discussion of history in additional classes after school, in circles is a softer option, but even here manuals will be required with an explanation of what and how to include, she believes.
The Russian Historical Society is ready to think over the forms of implementation of the minister’s proposal, Konstantin Mogilevsky, chairman of the society’s board, told Vedomosti. He said that in tsarist Russia there was a book with stories about the history for kids and now it is possible to develop a similar book. “In any case, this should not be a textbook, but material that teachers can use in their work and that will be of interest to first graders. Maybe a combination of text and videos,” Mogilevsky said. He noted that history as a subject would be difficult for young children, since the assessment of historical events requires analysis, the ability to work with sources and the search for causal relationships. And the format of stories will allow children to form knowledge about the main events. “It is very important that the texts are written in simple language, but convey high-quality historical knowledge to children,” Mogilevsky emphasized.
At the same time, a strong simplification and generalization of history can develop the mythologization of the child’s consciousness, and this will have to be worked on in high school, when it is necessary to develop critical thinking, said the teacher Makarov.

MOSCOW, April 19 – RIA Novosti. The study of history in Russian schools will begin with the first grade, said Minister of Education Sergei Kravtsov.
“We will do everything to preserve historical memory. And I have decided that historical education will begin in schools from the first grade,” the official said.
Later, the head of the Ministry of Education explained that we are talking about the lessons of historical education. According to him, already from elementary school within the framework of the subject “World around” one can discuss the history of one’s region, one’s small homeland, visit museums and exhibitions.

The final decision should be made by experts, the Kremlin spokesman emphasized.
The Russian authorities have repeatedly announced attempts by some foreign countries to rewrite history. Vladimir Putin noted that Moscow is obliged to ensure the preservation of the truth about the Great Patriotic War and resist attempts to falsify its meaning.
