COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMS SERVED

KYLIE ROSE’S RUN/BAGS OF LOVE – Akron Children’s Hospital We collect small activity items for kids and then sew small bags to put them in. We then donate to them patients at Akron Children’s Hospital. Additionally, every August we host a 5K run to raise money for the patients at Akron Children’s Hospital.

Our preschool participates in the “PAJAMA PROGRAM of Eastern Ohio” providing pajamas, and books to children who are removed from their homes under emergency circumstance. A pajama party is part of our fun for the children at school at the end of our Pajama Program drive. Last year 160 pairs of pajamas were donated.

HAVE A HEART – DO YOUR PART Change Bandits for Akron Children’s Hospital. Our preschool families and staff collects coins from home and bring them into school in our large coin jars. We discuss how this money helps the hospital buy much needed equipment to help the children in the hospital get the deserved care they need.

EASTER BASKETS – Everyone collects items that would go into Easter baskets for children. Candy, books, toys, stuffed animals, etc. The children help the teachers assemble the beautiful baskets and fun buckets full. We wrap them up and put a huge bow on each of them! The children then all gather around all 70+ baskets for a great picture together! These are donated to area churches to donate to needy children in our community.

OUR CURRICULUM

We provide children with a positive start to schooling.

Learning through play!

Our curriculum is adaptable to meet the needs and interests of diverse young learners.

It is play-based, which means that much of the day is devoted to child-initiated play.

Children actively explore and interact with their surroundings, allowing them to construct knowledge

of the world around them in a range of areas, such as science concepts, faith, lanuguage arts and social skills.

We use the Get Set for School and Pocket of Preschool curriculums, both of which are research-based and support the growth of children across all areas of development: social-emotional, motor and cognitive.

Both curriculums align with Ohio’s Early Learning Standards.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We’ve got answers for the most common questions.

What time is extended care offered and what does it cost?

Our morning care begins at 8 a.m. Our afternoon care begins at 12 p.m. noon for our half day students and 2:45 p.m. for others. All children must be picked up by 5:30 p.m. The cost for extended care is $6 per hour.

What should my child wear to preschool?

Children should wear comfortable play clothes that are easy to get off and on when using the bathroom. Belts and overalls are often frustrating for young children and contribute to toileting “accidents. ” Also, because children often get messy, dirty, wet or sticky while having fun, do not send them to school in their “good” or dressy clothes. For safety reasons, children should wear closed-toe rubber-soled shoes such as sneakers or athletic shoes. Finally, make certain that children are dressed appropriately for the weather and prepared to play outside everyday. Boots, hats, mittens, etc. are needed for outdoor play in colder weather.

Does Fairlawn-West Preschool accept Title XX for child care assistance?

Budgetary or state-owned: which preschool institution has more prospects for development? | Petrozavodsk SPEAKS | Newspaper “Petrozavodsk” online

September 27, 2014, 2:00 pm

Day after day

Commentary of Tatyana Strukova, Deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

A pre-school educational institution with the status of a “budget” institution has more opportunities for development, says Tatiana Strukova, Deputy Chairwoman of the Committee on Education, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs of the Legislative Assembly of the Republic of Karelia (United Russia faction). Meanwhile, in Karelia, a little more than half of municipal kindergartens have this status. Why?

– First of all, I want to remind you, – said Tatyana Alekseevna, – that the federal law, designed to improve the legal status of state (municipal) institutions, was adopted back in 2010. Its essence is to provide more financial independence, among others, to educational institutions, to give them the opportunity to more flexibly manage their resources and funds. The transitional period, during which institutions had to determine which of the organizational and legal forms – budgetary, state or autonomous – to choose, lasted a year and a half, and in 2012 it ended.

Today there are 196 municipal institutions of preschool education in the Republic of Karelia (this does not include private kindergartens and preschool groups at schools). And 111 out of 196 ventured to become budgetary. Accordingly, 85 remained state-owned.

What is the difference between these two forms? Regardless of whether it is a public institution or a budget one, the state in any case guarantees full funding of educational institutions and free education within the framework of the state standard.

But if the state ones are fully supported by the state, then the budgetary ones have greater financial independence and can implement additional educational programs and provide paid services. At the same time, the income from such activities remains at their disposal, and managers can use it to increase the salary of teachers, to purchase new modern equipment for the educational process … It is important that financial and economic activities are carried out not by centralized accounting, but by the accounting department of a particular kindergarten, this of course, a plus: firstly, everything is decided on the spot, which means that numerous approvals are not needed, which slow down the process, and secondly, it is more transparent.

When the law was just passed, it frankly frightened many people: the heads of kindergartens and parents were worried that kindergartens would be forced to become completely self-supporting. Fortunately, this did not happen. But many organizations did not dare to change their status. For example, in Lakhdenpokhsky, Medvezhyegorsky, Muezersky, Olonetsky, Pryazhinsky, Pudozhsky, Segezhsky, Sortavalsky and Suoyarvsky districts, all municipal kindergartens are state-owned. In the Prionezhsky district, there is one budget-funded kindergarten and seven state-owned ones. But in Pitkyarantsky, Loukhsky, Kondopoga, Kemsky, Kalevalsky and Belomorsky districts, as well as in Kostomuksha and Petrozavodsk urban districts – budgetary ones. In the local municipalities, they carried out relevant work and directed the heads of educational institutions to become budgetary. This is called far-sighted politics. After all, having secured such a status for itself, the institution does not have to immediately offer additional services and programs, no. It just got the right to do so. And if the socio-economic situation of the district at some point makes one doubt the demand for such services due to the low solvency of the population, then in the future it may change.

Therefore, of course, I support the decision of the leaders of those kindergartens who think progressively and leave themselves a chance to develop, study new technologies, and provide the widest range of services for children and parents. And this makes the life of children in the kindergarten more interesting, eventful and gives parents the right to choose which line of development to send their child. And, as a result, we have improved the quality of preschool education.

The transition from one legal status to another must be carried out gradually. To this end, it is important that there be a coherent, understandable educational policy in the regions and in the republic as a whole. So that the leaders of educational institutions know in which direction to move.
As already mentioned, state and municipal educational institutions receive budget funding for the implementation of the state standard. To date, deputies of the Legislative Assembly of Karelia are members of a working group established under the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan to determine the financial standard for spending per child for educational institutions implementing programs of primary, basic and secondary education. I hope that it will come to preschool education.
