Federal Grid Company is building a unique underground power structure for Skolkovo

The emptiness of the snow-covered Skolkovo fields is deceptive. There is no need to wait until the landscape of Skolkovo is adorned with a substation, power transmission towers and wires in the sky: the “zero energy floor” of the city is located underground and will become the basis of the Skolkovo smart grid – a modern system of flexible distributed urban energy supply, on the creation of which the Federal Grid Company (FGC) intends develop appropriate technologies. FGC started in the winter of 2013 the creation of energy infrastructure for the innovation city.

Construction almost always begins with energy facilities, and even more so in Skolkovo, which in the short term will be a fairly large consumer of energy. At first, everything happened like this: back in June 2012, the supplying organization MES Center brought cable lines to the territory where the Skolkovo power substation is supposed to be built. But in August 2012, at the site of the substation, they began with construction not up, but down, and in the future they do not promise that the results of construction can be seen. In January 2013, the Skolkovo Foundation and the company signed documents on various aspects of cooperation in the construction of the Skolkovo energy infrastructure. Then the parties finally decided that for an idle viewer all this would look like a low green hill with a clear sky above it.

In fact, something like this could have been assumed back in January 2012, when the Skolkovo Foundation, FGC, MRSK and RusHydro announced the launch of a research competition aimed at improving the energy efficiency of the main and auxiliary processes in the power grid economy. And almost a year later, when the first underground substation was put into operation, Viktor Vekselberg, President of the Skolkovo Foundation, and Oleg Budargin, Chairman of the Board of JSC FGC UES, signed a cooperation agreement to create an innovative energy cluster on the territory of the center based on smart grid technologies. In the time period between January 2012 and January 2013, the concept of the future Skolkovo energy system was formed, which will be fully implemented by 2016.

From a technical point of view, the power grid in Skolkovo will be provided by two high-performance underground substations with SF6 equipment and a single dispatch center that controls digital substations and 1,200 km of 20 kV and 0.4 kV networks and microprocessor-based protection and network automation devices. In addition, a flexibly controlled system of solar energy generation will be part of the Skolkovo power grid: buildings in the innovation center will be provided with solar panels with a total capacity of about 650 kW with the corresponding battery facilities, which will also be a single part of the overall Skolkovo grid, as well as a flexible lighting system for the territory of the innovation city: it will use switched power supplies. Finally, an important part of the smart grid will be the infrastructure for using electric vehicles on the territory of the innovation city. 18 stations on the territory of Skolkovo itself will provide fast charging of electric vehicles within 15 minutes, and 45 main charging stations will be located in Skolkovo parking lots.

From a commercial point of view, the main element of the system is a single intelligent system for commercial electricity metering (smart metering) with hundreds of metering points. No one has yet built “smart” networks in Russia on the scale of urban settlements – FGC, which intends to work out in Skolkovo, including modern energy metering technologies, this part is also extremely important.

But it’s not even about the design of the network in 2016 – the result of the annual negotiations and the January agreement between FGC and Skolkovo was the adoption by the fund of the concept of developing the energy infrastructure of the innovation city as a pilot platform in the energy and network economy. “For us, the project to create an integrated energy system Skolkovo, presented by the Federal Grid Company, is significant, since it fully corresponds to the concept of an innovative city as a pilot site for testing the most advanced solutions and fundamentally new approaches. The project is also important because the residents of the science city will have the opportunity to implement their developments in cooperation with FGC. In the future, the technological solutions that will be used in the project will be replicated in other regions of Russia,” Viktor Vekselberg explained. “I am convinced that the consolidation of the efforts of FGC and science will make it possible to build the first “smart” energy system in Russia — a prototype of energy systems that will find application in megacities of the future,” Mr. Budargin explained the meaning of FGC’s presence in Skolkovo.

Director of the Skolkovo Energy Efficiency Technologies Cluster Vasily Belov explained that the cluster he manages has 220 members, of which more than 20 innovative companies and R&D teams make products for smart grids. At the same time, there is a certain risk in the concept of “Skolkovo as an energy polygon”: in addition to the energy cluster, the innovation city is supposed to work with nuclear, space, biomedical and computer technologies that are sensitive to the quality of energy supply. However, for modern laboratories, working with a “smart” grid with serious reserves for increasing power and modern control systems is an advantage that covers all possible risks from the experimental status of an energy project. And it would be strange if, when coming to Skolkovo, the residents expected to see there the usual Russian power grid of the current generation.

lawn after laying 🥇| “Bashkir lawns”

Roll lawn care

After installation, turf needs careful maintenance to keep the grass healthy, thick and green. There are no difficulties in this if you follow the recommendations of experienced gardeners. According to Iskhakov Rishat Salmanovich, Honored Worker of Agriculture of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Bashkortostan, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences and Chief Technologist of the Bashkir Lawns Company, the main attention in the care process should be given to watering, timely fertilization and mowing of overgrown grass.

Care of the rolled lawn after laying begins with daily watering for a week. It is very important to prevent both the drying of the turf and the formation of puddles on the surface. It is best to use automatic drippers at the very beginning, as a powerful jet of water from a hose can move or damage the rolls. The frequency of watering depends on many factors: weather, time of year, soil type. About 20 liters of water are consumed per square meter of surface per week. A few days after laying the turf, daily watering is stopped. From this moment on, it is necessary to carefully monitor the condition of the turf and grass, watering as needed (if there is little rainfall, then once every 7-10 days).

The next important point in the care of a rolled lawn is its timely haircut. The first mowing is carried out 2-4 weeks after laying, when the height of the grass reaches 7-10 cm. In the future, the procedure is repeated as needed. The top should be removed by 2-3 cm, and in the future to maintain an optimal height of 4-5 cm. In a drought, the lawn is allowed to grow a few centimeters higher. Regular mowing (on average, once a week) strengthens the root system of plants and prevents the appearance of weeds. For mowing, it is better to choose a dry, clear day, in no case should you cut wet grass. Mower knives must be sharpened sharply, otherwise you risk not cutting the grass, but tearing it up by the roots. All hay should be immediately removed with a rake; we do not recommend leaving it on the site as a fertilizer. If weeds appear, they can be removed with herbicides.

Seasonal turf care

Much attention in the process of care should be paid to preparing for the wintering of the rolled lawn and its awakening in the spring.
