Mesquite Independent School District
Mesquite Independent School District is a school district in Mesquite, Texas (United States of America) (including most of Mesquite and parts of Balch Springs, Dallas, Garland, and Seagoville, and formerly served all high school students Sunnyvale), which follows the standard definition of an independent school district.
More than 35 thousand students study in the district. There are five primary high schools, three of which are AAAAAA (or 6A, the highest in the Texas school classification system). As of July 1, 2015, the superintendent is Dr. David Vrunland.
All houses and residential areas in ISD Mesquite are assigned to elementary school (Pre-K-5 or K-5), middle school (6-8 or 7-8) and high school (9-12).
In addition, two secondary schools operate under the MISD. football opportunities for their high schools, Memorial Stadium next to West Mesquite High School (which is the largest high school football stadium in Texas, seating almost 20,000 people). [1] ) and E. H. Hanby Stadium, which is located next to Mesquite High School.
In 2009, the school district was rated “Recognized” by the Texas Education Agency. [2]

Demographics
You can help by adding to this. (October 2019) |
In 1997, 70. 6% of students were non-Hispanic whites; of the county’s four major white-dominated suburban school districts, MISD had the highest percentage of white students. From that year to 2016, the number decreased by 68%, the most severe drop of the four districts. [3]
Between 1997 and 2016, the number of students receiving free or reduced-price meals, a way students are classified as low-income, increased by 266%. [3]
Standardized Dress Codes and Dress Codes
The district has implemented standardized attire (similar to school uniform) for middle and high school students who began the 2005-2006 school year. The district’s dress code also dictates the length of hair and acceptable hairstyles for male students. It was one of the first Dallas school districts to implement a formal dress code, and Karel Holloway of The Dallas Morning News wrote in 2009 that “the area is known for its conservative dress code.” [4] In the 1970s, a boy was sent home from school by the county because his hair touched his collar. This got everyone’s attention. [4]
Radio station KEOM 88.5
Mesquite ISD operates an FM radio station called KEOM 88.5. It is the largest student radio station in the country. [5]

- As of 2016, about 25% of Burmese students are refugees living in the area’s housing estates. In the period 2006-2016 60% of students had a low income. The increase in enrollment in the school was mainly due to the Burmese, although the number of affluent white students also increased. [12]
- Burmese students started arriving around 2010. Many of the Burmese students came from the refugee camp in Thailand. [13] In 2010, the school had 30 Burmese students and the school hired a part-time refugee assistant named Juna Po to help them. In 2011, a large group of refugees moved from another housing development to one in the Richardson ISD area and the Wallace Elementary School attendance boundary. The students spoke to Chin, Karen, and Karennie. In the fall of 2011, Wallace Elementary had 96 Burmese, which was about 16% of the total number of students. The promotion meant that Po became a full-time employee, an additional English as a second language instructor was hired, and additional morning lessons were established for the Burmese. [14] Teachers in Wallace began partnering with area churches that held summer classes. [15] By 2013, 20% of the school’s students were Burmese. [16] By 2016, about 200 students, almost 25% of students, were Burmese. [13]
- White Rock Elementary School (Dallas)
- White Rock Elementary School was originally a white school, described by its staff in the words of Laura Miller, and then working for Magazine D as “Norman Rockwell neighborhood schools”. [17] By 1990, the addition of children living in apartments to the school resulted in poorer and minority demographics. In 1989, the school had 500 students. In that year, the number of students from among ethnic minorities increased from 25 to 130. Fair Housing Act Apartments 1988 years old could no longer refuse families with children as tenants. [17] However, its student body was still richer than in the surrounding schools. [12]
- The construction of downtown Lake Highlands on the site of demolished apartments has meant that the number of low-income and minority students has decreased and test scores have improved: in the 2005-2006 school year, there were 270 low-income students, which accounted for 44% of the total number of students. students, and there were 205 black students and 110 Hispanic students; 87% of students passed the standardized Texas tests and 24% were rated as “approved” on those tests. There were 620 students in total in 2006. The student body was immediately reduced after the demolition of the apartments. In 2009-2010 The school had 96 low-income students, representing 17% of the total student body, and had 68 Hispanic students and 68 Black students; 97% of students passed state tests, the highest percentage among RISD schools, and 57% achieved commendation. Since the apartment demolitions, the number of high-income white students has increased significantly. [12]
- By the end of August, the school’s popularity had caused it to become overcrowded, and the political question arose as to whether to build a new school. By 2012 there were 630 students and then around 2014 there were 800 students. In the same year, RISD added classrooms, resulting in a school that could accommodate 912 students, but the district predicts that the school will require portable classrooms in 2017 as it will still have too many students. Eric Nicholson of Journal D wrote, “Whether White Rock Elementary School has improved in student learning is a more complex question” because, on the one hand, too much poverty in any school can hurt student achievement, but also that “the most a strong single predictor of student achievement” is socioeconomic status; however, he added that the real estate market in the area believes that White Rock has improved, and consequently, the value of houses has risen. Richardson Independent School District
Richardson Independent School District ( RISD ) is a school district located in Richardson, Texas (United States of America).
RISD covers 38.5 square miles (100 km 2 ) and serves most of the city of Richardson and parts of the cities of Dallas and Garland (60 percent of RISD is located in North Dallas (35 percent in Richardson and 5 percent in Garland). RISD operates 55 campuses serving over 36,000 students.Including administration and support, RISD maintains 70 facilities in over 6,000,000 square feet (560,000 m²). 2 ) with 35,000,000 square feet (3,300,000 m 2 ) of bases. [2]
In 2011, the school district was rated “recognised” by the Texas Education Agency. [3]
Most of RISD is located in Dallas. Two parts of North Dallas are in Richardson ISD: one north of Interstate 635 between Coit Road and Preston Road, south of the Collin-Dallas county line; the other is part of the Lake Highlands east of White Rock Creek and north of the Northwest Highway. [4] Added to the City of Dallas after 1960, these neighborhoods tend to be high income earners. [5]

History
The district was founded in 1854. At the time, he was educating the children of local farmers, small business owners, and railroad settlers near Dallas, Texas. Recently, RISD has been rated “Recognized” by the Texas Education Agency for many years in a row. RISD is the largest, most racially and socioeconomically diverse county in Texas to receive this high rating. In 2010, the Texas Business and Education Coalition (TBEC) added 22 RISD schools to the TBEC honor roll. RISD and Houston ISD leads the state in Honor Roll Schools. Only 252 public schools out of 8,000 in Texas were on the TBEC roll of honor, placing these 22 RISD schools in the top 4% of Texas public schools. [2]
In 2007, a report stated that due to new developments and older residents, some RISD areas are seeing a decline in student numbers. The demolition of some low-income housing estates resulted in losses. [6]
Demographics
In 1997, over 50% of students were non-Hispanic whites. [7] In the period leading up to 2009, the Richardson ISD student body evolved from a predominantly white and wealthy student body to a racially and socioeconomically diverse student body. In 2009The State of Texas defined “college readiness,” or university readiness, for high school graduates on scores on ACT and SAT and in the 11th grade Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) tests. During this year, the district’s high schools consistently had high rates of college readiness. Holly K. Hacker of The Dallas Morning News said that “Richardson school district leaders attribute the good results in their high schools to an attitude—a refusal to accept poor academic performance due to changing demographics. ” [8] From 1997 to 2016, the number of non-Hispanic white students declined by 44%, the smallest decline among Dallas County’s four major school districts, which were majority white in 1997. [7]
Between 1997 and 2016, the number of students receiving free or reduced meals, a way of determining low-income status, increased by 131%, the smallest increase of the four districts. [7]

A man who opened fire at an elementary school in Uwald, Texas, locked himself with students and teachers in the classroom, after which he began shooting at them, US authorities say.
As a result of the attack, 19 students and two teachers were killed, 13 more children were taken to hospitals with injuries of varying severity.
The shooter was killed on the spot and two US Border Patrol officers were injured.
Before heading to school, 18-year-old local resident Salvador Ramos shot his 66-year-old grandmother, who was in the car at the time, according to local authorities.
According to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, the woman contacted the police, who arrived at the scene and tried to apprehend Ramos.
He used his grandmother’s car to drive to elementary school, Texas Department of Public Safety director Stephen McCraw told a news conference Wednesday.
“He came out with a backpack, took a rifle with him and went to the west wing of the school, where there is a back door,” McCrow said. “At the moment she (grandmother) is in San Antonio in critical condition,” he added. .
Texas police spokesman Christopher Olivares told US media that the shooter entered the school, barricaded himself in one of the classrooms, and began shooting at “numerous children and teachers who were in the classroom.” “He had no respect for human life. Man is just the embodiment of evil,” says the policeman.

The shooter’s motives are still unknown. Ramos was reportedly a troubled teenager who was repeatedly bullied due to his speech impediment.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said Ramos announced his intentions on Facebook shortly before the attack. According to Abbott, the shooter first wrote: “I will shoot my grandmother,” then left the note “I shot my grandmother. ” After that, he added: “I will shoot at the elementary school.”
Texas Senate member Roland Gutierrez said Ramos bought the rifle as soon as he was 18 years old.

Later, Meta (which owns Facebook) Andy Stone said it was a private message and not the public post Governor Abbott was referring to. “We are working closely with law enforcement on the ongoing investigation,” Stone tweeted.
The attack took place on Tuesday at the Robb School, where children aged 7 to 10 study. It has about 500 students, about 90% of them are Hispanic. Only about 16 thousand people live in Uvalda itself, 80% of the population are Hispanics. The school is closed until the end of the school year.
Parents and relatives of the children came to pay tribute to the memory of the victims at the elementary school building.
The mother of one of the victims (her daughter had just celebrated her tenth birthday) wrote on social media that she would never again be able to live a happy and fulfilling life.
Another victim is schoolboy Uzia Garcia, he was only eight years old. “He’s the cutest boy I’ve ever known,” said his grandfather, Manny Renfro.
US President Joe Biden urged Americans to take a stand against the powerful lobby that advocates the right to free possession of weapons.
He also ordered the state flags to be flown at half mast over the White House and other public buildings in mourning for the victims. Flags will be flown at half mast until the evening of May 28.
