Grand Rapids Early Discovery Center

Welcome to the Grand Rapids Early Discovery Center!

Welcome to the Grand Rapids Early Discovery Center! The GREDC is a non-profit early learning center inspired by the schools of Reggio Emilia, Italy. Our goal is to encourage the social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and aesthetic development of each child within our programs on a daily basis.

Our Mission is to expand the potential of children, experiences of educators, and the involvement of parents within the diverse community of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

We are enrolling children for our slots funded by the Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP). Applications are processed through Kent ISD and are income based. This program uses the Reggio philosophy and emergent curriculum preparing children for kindergarten and life beyond!  Additional precautions are taken to reduce the spread of COVID.

What parents say about the GREDC

The child-centered mission and the dedication and expertise of the staff quickly made GREDC a second home for our son. The staff is kind, patient, and positive in all of their interactions, corrections, and guidance; we have learned positive parenting approaches simply from listening to staff/student interactions at drop off and pick up. All of the staff members are highly communicative, always honoring parent concerns and working with us and our child in productive ways. Most important to us, our son LOVES going to “school” each day! He takes great pride in the creative activities that the students and teachers co-imagine and craft, feeling ownership because the children’s voices and interests lead instruction. Having our son at GREDC is the best decision we could have made for his preschool experience.

Lisa

We love the team at EDC. The children have really connected with staff and other children and everyday explore and engage with something new. They are great partners with us as a family; helping our children grow and thrive. Keep on charging! We love what you all do, everyday!

Greg

The GREDC is filled with loving staff that really care about the development of your child. From the food they serve to the games they play, every lesson and every minute is planned intentionally to create an environment that brings the most our of them. I wish all preschools followed this approach!

Monica

We weren’t sure at first about the Reggio Emilia approach, but after doing our own research we found many examples of parents who believe this is one of the best models for early childhood education. And we couldn’t be happier that we made that choice! We’d seen our son blossom in amazing ways. Thank you GREDC!

Bryce

My favorite thing about our daughter attending the GREDC is the stories about her adventures in class each day. It’s truly a joy to hear her share how exciting it is to go to school each day and learn something new. The care and love of the teachers is evident!

Parents pay more and more attention to the early development of children. Therefore, such a line of business as the development of training centers is becoming more and more relevant.

Why should a child be developed from an early age? The fact is that it is during this period that he best learns new information. It is also possible to instill a lot of useful skills that will help at school, university and later in adulthood.

In an effort to make their children more successful, parents are willing to invest in them. Therefore, the opening of a children’s development center can bring you a large income. In this article, we will talk about how to start working in this direction and how to make your task easier.

What is a development center

A developmental center refers to a space for preschool and school age children that children attend to improve their skills and empowerment.

The specific outcome of a visit will depend on the program used at the centre.

Here are just a few results of the work:

· Improved ability to concentrate on a specific task.

· The emergence of interest in studies, the study of both the humanities and the exact sciences.

· Improving the child’s social skills, his ability to work in a group.

· Development of memory and mental abilities.

· Teaching useful skills – counting, speed reading and others.

At the same time, the centers can work in different formats. It is possible to equip both a compact room and a larger one, for several classes. This greatly simplifies the task of scaling your business depending on the potential audience, the population of the city and other parameters.

Another factor that improves the convenience for entrepreneurs is the easy transfer of classes to an online format. This will help to work not only within the framework of your region, but also expand the geography.

Franchise work as a key to an easy start

Opening a developing children’s center is one of the lines of business with a fairly high entry threshold. If you do not have experience in this area, there is a big risk of losing a significant amount of money, facing the problem of a lack of teaching materials, and difficulties in finding teachers.

Franchise work helps to cope with all these difficulties. In this case, you will be able to work under a proven brand name, which has already managed to create a good reputation for itself.

This helps to get several important benefits at once:

· Getting effective teaching methods . This will allow building successful training in mental arithmetic, development in other popular areas. You will be given special methodological materials that are aimed at use in different age groups. This will increase the effectiveness of learning.

· Assistance in finding and equipping classrooms . Working on a franchise will help you save a lot in these areas, because it will eliminate common mistakes and overpayments.

· Marketing support . Development centers will have access to all well-developed marketing channels of the franchisor. Working in this format is much easier than developing your own brand from scratch.

· Reducing risks and the likelihood of making a mistake . Franchisees receive comprehensive consulting support and other important features that greatly simplify their work, especially at the start.

Benefits of working in education

Beginning entrepreneurs also often ask the question of how expedient it is in principle to start work in the educational field.

Experts note several advantages of starting your own business in this industry:

· You can work anywhere . This is achieved thanks to the convenient format of combining online and offline classes. You can choose an option for any region.

Demand . Practice shows that many parents are very serious about the future of their children. Because they are willing to pay for additional classes with them, the implementation of special training.

Business plan for a children’s development center with calculations.

How to open your courses from scratch.

The main task of the children’s developing club is to help
child in the development of skills, thinking, talents and other personal qualities,
that will help him become successful in adulthood. This service is being implemented
through training courses and additional education in various fields
child development. Such a children’s studio receives income from visit fees.
individual classes or long-term training programs with a subscription.

It makes sense to open a developing children’s center in cities from
100 thousand population. The greatest profit due to increased solvency
can be obtained by working in large cities from 1 million inhabitants.

Previously, only wealthy families could pay for additional education for children, but at the moment, due to the development and popularization of this type of service, it is available to almost every family, which significantly expands the coverage of the target audience. And the demand for developing classes is very high, since all parents want their child to be talented and successful and do not spare money for his education even in times of economic crisis, which makes this business industry resistant to sales declines and attractive for investment.

It is worth clarifying right away that a children’s development center as a business is not an analogy to a private kindergarten where you leave children for the whole day. Typically, the duration of the classes is 60 – 90 minutes, in groups of 5 – 10 people. The goal of each group is to familiarize, learn or develop some skill in the child. Since you will be faced with pedagogical activities on a daily basis, you yourself need to be a professional in these matters, be able to convey information and communicate with children. And if you are thinking where to start, then start with your own education and career guidance as a teacher. Look for literature, attend courses and seminars where you can get practical teaching skills so that children are interested and their parents are satisfied with the results of your work.

A promising idea for making money opening a private kindergarten. Premises, documents, personnel, programs for training and calculations for business.

Since the niche of additional education for children is already
formed, then it employs many players of various sizes. There are large
medium and small networks of development centers that sell franchises, and there are also
individual entrepreneurs who build a business on one training
studios, improve it, and do not plan to turn it into a whole network of similar
establishments. In this regard, even at the stage of opening a children’s club, you will encounter
high competition, so you need to pre-analyze it, find out
key points: prices, number of students, focus, schedule, where
other factors are advertised that will help you eventually launch your
unique training program. What is the uniqueness? For example, you
you can open courses in a new direction that your competitors do not have,
launch creative advertising on social networks, come up with a new approach to
training and other “chips” that you will use when promoting
your business.

The target audience buying your services is residents
cities aged 25 – 45 years with children aged 3 – 7 years. fullness
groups strongly depends on the season. Thus, the highest rate of attendance
falls in September – December and from February to May. During the summer, the demand for
the service drops by 2 – 3 times, but still several groups can be dialed. The same
drawdown is also observed in January during the New Year holidays.

List of services and business format

We continue to analyze this niche and talk about the services that can be offered in your own development center for children. There are several main areas: the intellectual development of the child, social communication, the discovery and development of creative abilities, creativity. If we talk about the business format, then you can open either a narrowly focused club, for example, for teaching singing or learning foreign languages, or a multidisciplinary training center with a wide range of developing programs. You can start with one section and gradually add new courses to your program, this is especially true if you start on a limited budget.

All groups of children can be divided into several areas:

  1. Age 2-3 years. Earlier development. To the program
include classes on the development of speech, fine motor skills, coordination of movements,
attention, memory, and imagination in a child. Starting from the age of three
arts and crafts such as drawing and painting.
  2. Age 3 – 5 years. Comprehensive
creative skills programs (drawing with paints or pencil, singing),
physical development (dance, fitness), language learning.
  3. Age 5 – 7 years. Stage of preparation for school.
Children are taught to read, the basics of mathematics, letters. In parallel, the program includes classes
    development of thinking and memory.

In addition, you can offer specialized programs.

  1. Music classes.
  2. English.
  3. Mathematical training.
  4. Physical development.
  5. Services of a speech therapist or child psychologist, etc.

List of services provided in development centers,
can be very wide, because there are many directions, for example: dancing; vocals;
drawing; theater school; chess classes and more.

You can provide a choice of training format
child, for example, in a group, or in the form of individual lessons.

The cost of classes depends on the direction of training and
the number of people in the group. On average, parents pay about $6.5 per
occupation. Individual training will be 1.5 times more expensive.

You must be able to purchase as a one-time activity,
and the course as a whole (as a bonus, you can give a discount on the course of 10% – 15%). per month baby
visits the development center about 8 – 12 times, 2 – 3 classes per week.

Advertising and sales planning services

When developing a business project for a development center, you first need to understand where you will take clients and what sales channels you will use. There are several proven marketing strategies for this niche.

  • Own website of the children’s club. It will be required
fill it with content, publish full information about all services, prices,
contacts, map, gallery and more. To receive applications from the site you need
will launch contextual advertising and implement measures for search engine
    promotion of your resource.
  • Social networks. Now it is the #1 source
sales. This is due to the target audience of the project, which sits on the same Instagram and chooses
developing center, according to reviews and photos from classes. It is important to publish
only advertisements, but also to make collections of interesting information on
child development. This point should be given special attention when promoting
your business, in addition, you will need a budget for the purchase of paid advertising in
    this social network.
  • Posting and distributing leaflets near children’s
gardens, as well as nearby houses located near your club.
  • Bulletin boards. The same Avito or OLX, you can successfully
use to find clients, including buying paid placement
    ads.
  • Advertising in groups in your city. It can be
    social networks or forums.
  • Participation as a sponsor in urban
activities for children or family holidays.
  • Make a free start bonus. For example,
Offer your first trial lesson for free.
  • A prominent sign on your studio building.

Word of mouth works just fine in this niche, and
if your teachers can give a result on the development of the child, while children
and parents will like everything, then you will be advised to all friends, and this
large flow of potential customers. That is why reputation in business on
developing club for children plays a huge role and it needs to be developed
for years. Based on this, it is difficult to call such a center a passive source
income, even when hiring employees, because you, as the owner
business will need to control all processes, as well as quickly and efficiently
solve the problems that have arisen.

Registration of activities

Launching a business in the format of a children’s development center with
zero, you will need to issue a package of documents.

  • open IP.
  • specify OKVED for activity. For Russia it
    codes – 85.32, 92.51, 93.05. For Ukraine – codes 88.91, 96.09, 93.29.
  • lease agreement for the premises.
  • permits from the SES and the fire department. In that
segment of the market very strict requirements for the equipment of the premises and the organization of the work
process, you can obtain a complete list of requirements by contacting
relevant services. This should preferably be done before the
    indoor renovation.
  • all furniture and equipment must comply
    sanitary standards.
  • availability of educational programs.
  • the teaching staff must have a profile
    education and qualifications documented.
  • availability of medical books for all employees.

And one more question that interests many beginners
Entrepreneurs – Do I need a license? “Educational activities,
carried out by conducting one-time classes of various types (including
lectures, internships, seminars) and not accompanied by final certification and
issuance of documents on education, maintenance and upbringing activities
students and pupils, carried out without the implementation of educational
programs, as well as individual labor pedagogical activity is not
subject to licensing. ” Based on this, it can be concluded that the license for
opening a development center is not required, as your classes will not
educational, but developmental plan.

To do everything correctly, it is best to seek advice from an experienced lawyer who will help you draw up the right package of documents, which will save your business from fines issued by inspection services.

An alternative business idea is to open a children’s creative workshop. Directions, personnel, programs and profitability.

Room

The next step is choosing a room for the center. It is subject to a number of requirements, both from the marketing side and from the inspection services.

  • Location. Search for places on the most passing
streets of your city is not needed, because the scheme of spontaneous
shopping. After the presentation of courses on the website and in social networks, parents
enroll their children in groups with a choice of time convenient for them. Priority in terms of renting a place under
children’s club are considered premises near kindergartens and schools. good choice and
sleeping areas of the city, where you can find a good room for an adequate
price, besides, you will be provided with the target audience.
  • Zoning. The space is divided into
several rooms. Entrance hall with wardrobes
and shoes and chairs or a sofa for parents who are expecting their child. Further
there are rooms in which group and individual lessons are held,
equipped according to the direction of activity. Bathrooms for adults and children
    (with children’s washbasins and toilets).
  • Communications. Their installation needs to be provided
before repair. This includes heating, ventilation, water supply,
sewerage, electricity. It is better to lay new pipes and wiring so that
    pass all checks.
  • Repair. The materials used for repairs must
be environmentally friendly and not cause allergic reactions in students.
It is desirable to make the premises bright, pay special attention to the lighting of the working
zones. You can lay carpet on the floors, while the children will be engaged in
    slippers.
  • Room area from 65 sq.m. This quadrature
will be enough for two small classrooms and additional rooms.

A good bonus when choosing a rental area can be
the presence of nearby transport interchanges, metro or parking for cars near
building. These points also need to pay attention.

Equipment

Now, let’s look at what equipment is needed to open a development center. You can compile a complete list of the material and technical base only after you decide on the list of areas and types of services. But there are also basic things that almost every center includes.

  • Hallway furniture: chairs or sofa for
    parents, lockers for children’s things.
