Who should live well in America

It depends a lot on the profession. A general practitioner can receive 120-200 thousand dollars, and a cardiologist – 400-600 thousand dollars. Keep in mind that this profession takes many years, and higher paying niches (cardiology, plastic surgery) require many additional years, and usually only work in large cities.

Medscape, a subsidiary of the WebMD health information website, has released a report revealing how much doctors in America earn. Data comes from over 19500 physicians in 26 specialties who answered Medscape’s annual income survey. Let’s try to sort it out with anonssmi.ru

In this video I answer your most frequently asked questions. Namely: the salaries of doctors vs residents, is the Kaplan school worth it, as I learned English.

Let’s find out how much doctors in America earn. The average primary care physician receives $195,000; the average specialist receives $284,000. But these averages hide quite a lot of changes based on different factors. nine0004

The infographic below shows the average earnings for each occupation surveyed. Orthopedists, only 9% are women, were America’s highest earning physicians:

Not Board Certified MD:

Some people get medical degrees but don’t really see patients in hospitals or places that accept insurance. They may work for a research firm or even a software company, but they are technically full doctors. nine0004

Their pay varies widely, although they may earn the same as a doctor (see below), but they do not work as a doctor. They don’t practice like doctors. However, after 4 years of college, 4 years of medical school, it’s still a very high level of education.

Basic Certified MD: General Practitioner, Pediatrician, Internal Medicine Physician, etc.

Typically you will have 4 years undergrad, 4 years MD, 2-3 years internship (paid enough to survive, pay off loans). Thus, in general, 10-11 years before you earn decent money. nine0004

Advanced MD-certified board: cardiologist, surgeon, etc. (does better)

You will have 4 years of undergrad, 4 years of MD, 2-3 years of internship, 2-4 additional years of study in your specialty. Total – 12-15 years.

Hospital administrators

Many physicians eventually become hospital administrators. Their wages would vary widely, although they could potentially be higher if they worked as a purely physician. nine0004

Why some doctors get paid more

Like most income items, doctors’ incomes are influenced by economic factors: demand, training level, skill set, age, experience. These are the main factors that make up the difference between, for example, a cardiologist earning a higher annual income than a primary care physician (the big difference is $200,000, according to a Medscape study). nine0364 But these are not the only reasons.

Several other factors explain why some doctors make more money than others. They are less well-known than medical school, specialty, experience, but in many ways are also important distinguishing features.

The highest salaries of doctors share the following traits:

See more patients. The medical field defines quantity as important as quality, at least in terms of generating income. Healthcare, like most other service sectors, defines: the more patients you see, the more you bill, the more you earn. nine0004

2. They diversify. A cardiologist (or any doctor) who spreads his wings and provides services beyond the care of patients with heart disease can earn significantly more income. For example, a specialist offering medical consulting services also offers expert legal testimony to individuals seeking financial compensation after an accident or illness, or appears on media platforms as an expert on a particular payment topic. nine0004

3. Adjust on the fly. Some physicians enter a practice or specialization at the bottom of the physician pay scale, then change specialties, moving up with income. Consider a general practitioner training to become a dermatologist. The difference in annual wages can be millions of dollars over an entire career.

4. Pay attention to their service contracts, negotiate them upwards. Experienced doctors in a hospital, clinic or other specialized medical institution often have employment contracts. Instead of accepting a general offer of a small raise, physicians negotiate these contracts for better terms. Terms that include performance bonuses, stock options, better special compensation should apply to contract doctors, and it’s the smart doctors who pay attention to contracts, seeking to update them regularly. nine0004

5. Become “rain makers” in hospitals and other major healthcare organizations. Doctors who excel in a particular medical specialty, such as radiology, cardiology, oncology, and have experience in attracting new patients, can significantly increase their annual income. Not only do they earn much higher returns when they connect to a (usually) large healthcare provider or system, rain producers also often receive large subscription bonuses. Bonus: Rain producers signing with a deep-pocketed healthcare provider also get access to the best medical equipment, the best technology, the best benefits, the ability to fund their medical needs. nine0004

Physician’s Nurse Benefit

Explaining last year’s survey results, Medscape noted, “Performers of procedures have the highest salaries compared to those who deal with chronic diseases.

Most doctors in America have seen their salaries rise since 2013, with the exception of a slight decline for rheumatologists. Infectious disease doctors (HIV/ID in the chart above) earn 22% more than last year’s data, and family doctors earned 10% more. nine0004

Salary also depends on the region. The average salary for doctors ranges from $253,000 (Northeast) to $281,000 (Northwest). Some regions of the country may have to pay more to attract doctors, so doctors’ salaries often reflect the level of competition more than the cost of living.

Flu doctor

Rural doctors also tend to earn more, and this year’s survey found that average wages were the highest in the states: North Dakota, Alaska, Wyoming; and the lowest is the District of Columbia, Rhode Island, Maryland. nine0004

The Medscape survey also showed that physicians are roughly uniform in their belief that they are paid fairly, although this varies somewhat by specialty.
