Do I Need a Double Stroller?

Do I need a double stroller?

I wondered that for much of my second pregnancy. My older child will be three years old (plus a few months) when the second baby arrives. Was a double stroller necessary for older children? Was a double necessary for long days at the fair or exploring European cities on foot in our travels? Did we need a double stroller because we didn’t own a car?

Here’s an admission from a car-free family: our three year-old prefers the bus, or a car, to walking.

I thought that not having a car would turn our oldest into a fantastic walker. Alas, this is not so.

Taxi rides are met with delight. There are tears when we have to get off of a bus. He loves vehicles and any mode of transportation that is built with metal. Bikes! Diggers! Cars! Bus! Truck! Train!

The only exception to his apathy towards travel on foot: he’ll walk and wander for miles on a beach or through a forest. Great but not helpful when we are walking into town for an appointment.

I was unsure if our three year old would make the transition to walking when his baby brother arrived. Do I need a double stroller if I have a newborn and a three year old? It felt like it could be a big waste of money to buy a double stroller if the three year old mostly walked.

The other struggle I had was that double strollers are generally quite awkward and heavy. They aren’t easy to push and we walk many places on narrow sidewalks. Uphill. This is an old British city and wide smooth North American style sidewalks are nowhere to be found.

Occasionally we are out for those long days when a double stroller could really come in handy. A day at the fair when, understandably, the three year old would put in a lot of miles and be extra tired. We travel a fair bit living over here and if we had a long day tramping around London or Dublin, could the three year old hack it without a stroller?

How to get by without a double stroller.

When I wondered ‘do I need a double stroller?’ I started to think about alternatives to using a stroller. If we didn’t have a double stroller we would:

Put the baby in a carrier and the three year old in the single stroller. This works!

Let the three year old have shoulder rides when he got tired of walking. I can kind of manage this on my own, toddler on shoulders, one hand on stroller. But it’s not pretty or great for longer walks.

Use the bus a bit more. The toddler loves it and the small expense is worth it for not having to herd/cajole/bribe a toddler when he’s feeling pretty done with walking.

Put the toddler on a kick scooter. Our three year old is just getting into his Micro Kickscooter and it’s a great option for longer distances. It’s not too tiring for him, easy to steer and push and keeps a good pace. That actually may be a downside – he’s much faster than my walking pace!

I had some concerns that not owning a double stroller would make it untenable for me to get out with the two boys this winter. Of course, I took my own advice and waited to see if we could get by using our single stroller and letting the older child sit in the foot well when needed. Note: the BOB single strollers are not meant to have two children in them. Use this method at your own risk.

Happy to report we made it. The baby spent most of the winter in a carrier and I often got around by bus and on foot with no stroller at all. Spring is slowly showing her face here in the Isle of Man and our oldest child is now starting to use his scooter as transportation.

So glad I waited to see if I really needed something before buying it.

A simple thing but so often in the past I would buy something before the need actually arose. I would buy things not because I needed them at that moment but because I was scared I would need them in the near future.

And then I would buy them, not really use them, but be too scared to part with them because there was still a chance, a small chance, I might use it some day.

Not surprising that it took me three months of intense work to pare down our possessions.

Anyone else have a successful “glad I didn’t buy it” moment recently?

Update to this post: we did end up buying a double stroller when our third child came along. The gap of 22 months (vs. 3 years + 3 months with child 1 and 2) and the incredible weight of our third kid (I needed a break from wearing him everywhere in a carrier) pushed me to buy a Phil and Ted’s double stroller. This was the most compact inline double we could get that would also fit in the entryway of our Victorian era townhouse.

As I write this update in 2017, after using the Phil and Ted stroller for several years, it was still a good buy and I would purchase it again. It was a good stroller for older kids – front seat had a high weight capacity – and it was an excellent 2 kid stroller or double stroller for a toddler.

Do you need a double stroller? As a mum of three that is almost out of the stroller years, I highly advise patience and some deep thought on what your lifestyle/toddler is like before you buy a double stroller. If you’re going to and fro to daycare by car Monday to Friday you really might not need a double stroller. You could get by with other options like shoulders for long days out, wearing the smaller child in a carrier or having the older child on some kind of push or ride on vehicle/toy like a kick scooter.

If you’re a stay at home parent and walk a lot, or if you use the stroller to ferry kids to daycare, a double stroller may be a good by for efficiency. Our double stroller had a lot of miles put on it by our babysitter and by me when we lived in the city and walked everywhere.

The Double Stroller Smackdown: 2022 Lineup

As your family expands, you’re probably trying to figure out a double stroller solution for your growing fam. You’ve come to the right place! We’ve been covering double strollers for 8 years now — we basically have a PhD in Double Strollers 😂.

But first.

Having your second (or more!) baby is a very different experience than having your first. You quickly learn that the long, blissful days of staring into your baby’s eyes, the hour-long nursing sessions, tummy time and “napping when the baby naps” (ha!) were first-kid things. After all, you still have to take your firstborn to the library, swim class, or school. But with a baby in a tow.

Difficult? Yes. Impossible, No. So, pour yourself a glass of wine, get comfy… settle in. Listen to the docta’.

Being able to physically get both/all your children around on your own is not always easy, but it’s key to surviving the early years with multiple children. It’s also paramount to maintaining your confidence and sanity. See also: Bringing Home Baby #2.

You can do it!

This article is basically Double Strollers 101 — it will help you determine what type of stroller you need and the pros and cons of each. Realizing this may be too much information to digest (I understand, believe me), we narrowed it down to this summary below.

Remember that things are squirrelly in 2022! Many of these strollers were already hard to find even before the pandemic or product shortages were even a thing. Valco Baby, Maclaren and others… they’re nearly impossible to find on the shelves this year.

Best Double Stroller (by Category)

By the way, it was REALLY hard to narrow it down to just a few because there are SO many different kinds of strollers in this category, and so many of them are fabulous. Please leave us a comment and tell us about your favorite!

The Lay of the Land

With a couple of exceptions, double strollers are generally BIG and heavy. That’s because, well, they have to hold a lot of weight! Most of them are rated for 80-100 lbs (or more) of total baby/child meat. I always laugh when I hear people complain about their double stroller, “it’s so much heavier than my City Mini.” No shit!?

Generally (sorry to say), these strollers are pretty darn expensive, so it’s not a decision to make hastily.

Age Difference

The first thing you should know is that the age difference between your children matters. Strollers designed for twins are different from those for a newborn and a young toddler, for example.

Children who are close in age (less than two years) seem to do well in almost any double stroller, while children who are 2-4 years apart often do better in a side-by-side stroller or in a tandem stroller with one “primary” (larger) seat and a smaller seat.

For children with larger age differences… since many of these strollers have an upper weight limit of 40 lbs, look for one with 50 lb seats so you’ll be able to use it for longer.

If your oldest will be four or older by the time your 2nd baby arrives, you may not even need (or want) a double stroller — or you may only need it on occasion. Outside of the weight capacity problem (usually 40-45 lbs per seat), most 4-year-olds are too big (height-wise) for many of these stroller seats. But don’t worry, there are alternatives…

A preschooler who is too cool to sit in a stroller may still want the option to ride in a sit-and-stand. In fact, many preschoolers seem to prefer standing (vs. sitting) in a sit-and-stand stroller (below), but every child is different.

Another alternative to purchasing a double stroller is using a riding board (below) or putting your baby in a carrier while your older child rides in a single stroller.

Most preschoolers are just fine walking alongside the stroller, but sometimes it’s nice to have them both contained and under control, like in a crowded market.

Types of Double Strollers

If you thought it was hard to choose a single stroller, just wait! Mwaaaa.

Shopping for a double stroller is even more confusing, not to mention much more expensive. Not to worry, we’ve selected our favorite doubles and broken them down into 7 distinct categories (below).

Like asking, “What’s the best car?”, the answer is… it depends on your needs and your budget. Are you looking for a pickup or a sports car?

Tandem vs. Side-by-Side

There are two basic styles of doubles: tandem and side-by-side. Each has its pros and cons.

Tandem

A tandem, or “in-line” stroller, has one seat behind the other. Sometimes they are stacked up stadium-style, other times not. The main benefit of a tandem stroller is that it’s the same width as a single stroller, allowing you to get through doorways with ease.

The big downside is that they are harder to maneuver due to their length. This “length problem” also makes it tough to fit some of them into smaller trunks. Another downside of tandems is what I call “seating inequality,” where one seat is more desirable than the other. Once your youngest is old enough (about 2.5) to recognize this fact, it could be a source of tension (until then, they are blissfully unaware).

Side-by-Side

A side-by-side stroller is double wide, like two single strollers smooshed together. Side-by-sides are generally easier to push and steer, but much harder to get through doorways. They can also monopolize a narrow sidewalk, which many people feel is discourteous to others, especially in crowded urban areas. On the upside, the seating equality of a side-by-side means less fighting.

They both have their pros and cons, so it’s just a matter of lifestyle and personal preference.

I. Side-by-Side

A. Double Umbrella Strollers are lightweight strollers with small wheels that fold compactly and are very easy to get in and out of the car, but few bells and whistles and limited storage space. Perfect for airline travel and car outings. (See also: Though for our favorite doubles for travel). Prices range from $100-$500.

Favorite Double Umbrellas

Best for Younger, Smaller Kids: UPPAbaby G-Link2 ~ $350
  • “After losing a couple of pounds and a couple of inches, the newest version of the G-Link double umbrella, the G-Link 2, is out. We like the lighter weight, design, and ease of use, but there are still some flaws to discuss. That’s why we wanted to get this UPPAbaby G-Link 2 review out to you. Let’s take a closer look, shall we?

Compared to the previous model, the G-Link 2 is lighter by about 2.5 lbs (now weighing 22 lbs) and narrower by 2 inches. It may not sound like a lot, but every pound matters when it comes to lugging these things around — and this stroller wins in the weight department. And yes, it’s Disney approved for their parks…”

B. General Purpose Side by Sides have medium-sized wheels, mid-range weight, and more storage and features than an umbrella stroller. Prices range from $200-$580. Best when used on smooth, paved surfaces; not great for all-terrain use.

Favorite Side by Sides

Economy Side-by-Side ~ $299 – Joovy Scooter X2
  • “Joovy set out to make a lightweight(ish) (32 lbs), side-by-side stroller that fits through a regular doorway (width = 30″) and gives parents the features they really want: a huge canopy with a peek-a-boo window, individually reclining seats, and TONS of storage.

Function-wise, this stroller is somewhere between a double umbrella stroller (like the UPPAbaby GLink2) and an all-terrain side-by-side (like the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Double). Price comparison-wise, the GLink2 is ~ $349, and the City Mini GT2 Double is ~ $699 MSRP. At ~ $299, the Joovy ScooterX2 stroller is a bargain. This is also a great stroller for a nanny-share, due to its ample storage, comfortable seating, and low price..”

Uber-Lightweight/Travel Side-by-Side ~ $379– The Twin+
  • “When The Twin+ stroller (which comes in “classic” and “luxe“) first came out there was so much buzz about it they couldn’t seem to keep it in stock! We wanted to know if it was really all that, so we picked one up and gave it a whirl. Note that in the Twin+ (Zoe XL2) stroller review, we will be discussing the “classic” version of The Twin+. Yes, a lightweight, side-by-side stroller for ~ $300+ is every parent’s dream.

While the Zoe brand is newer to the stroller scene, the founders are not. They’re a small, family business who’ve combined their fashion design expertise along with their baby product experience, and set out to make an affordable, double stroller that parents of twins would love. They recently re-named their strollers — for instance, this one used to be called the Zoe XL2 Best V2, and now it’s The Twin+ (XL2). The Twin+ is much easier to say (and remember ;-).”

“Regular” Side-by-Side ~ $499– B-Lively Double
  • Got two under 5? If so, don’t overlook the new(ish) Britax B-Lively Double Stroller to get around town. This stroller carries on the tradition that started with its predecessor, the B-Agile Double, but with a few upgrades. Parents agree: this stroller is a real contender for the best full-featured, lightweight, side-by-side stroller, so we’ve been very excited to write this Britax B-Lively Double stroller review.

Like Chevy vs. Ford, its big competitor is the Baby Jogger City Mini Double. All things considered, the B-Lively stroller edges out the City Mini in three main ways: weight (~ 3 lbs lighter), slightly better storage, and an adjustable handlebar. However, it loses in the car seat department in that it’s only compatible with Britax brand car seats.

C. All-Terrain Doubles have heavy-duty all-terrain wheels, usually with a front wheel(s) that will swivel or lock. Many can be used for “light” jogging. All terrain side-by-sides are all pretty heavy and bulky, and they generally take up a lot of trunk space. But they are downright delightful to push and steer. They are full-featured and tend to be the most expensive. Prices range from $200-$750, except for the Bugaboo Donkey (~$1,300+).

* These are the most popular in the doubles world.

The Bumbleride Indie Twin, oooh la la

Best “Compact All-Terrain” Side By Sides

Lightweight: Valco Baby Slim Twin ~ $599
  • Are you looking for a super lightweight and narrow side-by-side double stroller that’s easy to maneuver, is great for travel, fits through doorways and grocery store aisles with no problem, and easily fits in your trunk with room to spare? Then you must check out Valco Baby’s newest double stroller (which effectively replaces the Neo Twin): the Valco Baby Slim Twin (~ $599). At only 24 lbs and 26 inches wide, it lives up to its name; the Slim Twin is the narrowest of all of Valco’s double strollers, and one of the slimmest double strollers on the market (almost 5 inches smaller than most side-by-side strollers!).

Regular Size/Weight: Baby Jogger City Mini Double GT2 Double ~ $699
  • “The Baby Jogger City Mini double strollers just got a facelift: the regular is now called the City Mini Double “2” (which was just upgraded in January of 2020). If you like the regular double,  chances are you’ll love the all-terrain version, the City Mini GT2 Double, the newest version of what was called the city Mini GT Double (make sense? They essentially added a “2” to the new versions).

D. Double Joggers are for serious runners and have either a permanent fixed front wheel or a high-quality swivel/fixed wheel and large, 16″ air-filled tires in the back. If you’re a serious runner, this is where you want to look. These strollers range from $300-$650.

BOB Duallie Jogger

Favorite Double Joggers

Old Faithful: BOB Revolution Duallie Flex 3.0 ~ $799
  • “To own him is to love him. BOB, that is. Typically when studying customer reviews, you see a fairly even distribution of likes and dislikes: 1 star, 5 stars, and everything in between; not so much with this stroller.

The vast majority of the reviews of this stroller are 5-star, making it VERY highly rated. Prior to Thule emerging on the scene, it used to be a runaway favorite double jogger (no pun intended). Don’t get me wrong, we still like it very much, but note that it’s now pretty much tied(ish) with the Thule Urban Glide Double…”

We are super excited about the Thule Urban Glide 2.0 Double, which made its debut in 2018, and just recently got a facelift at the end of 2020 (it’s even sleeker than before!). Note that the “2.0” denotes that this is the 2018 model, not the fact that it’s a double.”

II. Tandem

A. Twin Car Seat Frames are designed to carry two infant car seats at the same time. They are lightweight (as lightweight as possible), compact, easy to fold, and will last for roughly 0-12 months. They run $100-$300.

Joovy Twin Roo+

B. Convertible (All-Terrain) Strollers can be used “normally” as a single, or with a 2nd seat added on to make it a double. Even in singles mode, convertible strollers are bulkier and heavier than regular single strollers, but they are very versatile and last a long time. “Convertible” typically denotes all-terrain as well. They run around $500-$1,000 and are very popular.

Favorite Convertible Strollers

Best Economy Convertible: Mockingbird Single-to-Double ~ $595 (Double)
  • “The Mockingbird Single-to-Double stroller is relatively new on the scene, and we’re totally here for it. This convertible stroller can easily accommodate two kids, with the use of the 2nd seat kit, purchased separately — note: it won’t be long until this stroller is also able to hold three kiddos — making it good pick for big families — with the addition of a glider board, debuting soon.

Both the toddler seat and the 2nd seat are exactly the same — there’s no big kid/little kid seat situation, like on some convertible strollers (looking at you, Britax B-Ready G3). Both seats can accommodate children up to 45 lbs, which definitely isn’t as much as the Nuna Demi Grow (50 lbs) or the Evenflo Pivot Xpand (55lbs), but should get you to your kids’ 3rd (and maybe even 4th??) birthdays…”

The Baby Jogger City Select 2, which hit the market in July of 2021, combines the best features of the (regular) City Select Double Stroller and City Select Lux strollers — and weighs about 5 lbs less than the City Select Lux! In fact, this new model (the “2”) replaces both of those old models, which have now been officially discontinued.

C. All-Purpose Tandems have smaller wheels that won’t go over heavy terrain and are generally less expensive. They are typically loaded with convenience features and are best used on smooth surfaces. They run from $160-$300.

D. Sit and Stand strollers are good for those who have an infant and an older child at least 2.5 years old (minimum!). Older children often want to hop in and out of the stroller on their own. Your older child can sit or stand in the back with (or without) being buckled in. They run from $130-$400.

III. Strollers for 3 or 4 children

There are a few strollers for 3 young kids, triplets, or twins and a singleton. Our favorite is the Valco Baby Tri-Mode Double plus Joey seat. Another option is a double stroller with a riding board.

Valco Baby Tri-Mode Duo X with Joey Seat

Favorite Strollers for 3+

Best Stroller for 3 ~ $749 – Valco Baby Tri-Mode Duo X
  • “Looking for a stroller that can handle up to four kids like a dream? Check out our Valco Baby Tri Mode Duo X review. Valco Baby is an Australian company whose strollers are often hard to find in the US, though most of the line is now on Amazon and pretty reliably at Pish Posh Baby and Albee Baby in New York City. That’s about it! When they sell out, they’re gone for a while.

To say I love this stroller would be a complete understatement. In a nutshell, it is “the” all-terrain stroller for growing families (and at a pretty decent price, all considered). The Duo X is a great stroller for two kids; but you can also attach the Toddler Seat (sold separately for ~ $129) if you have three kiddos, like me (I have twins and an older singleton). Got four kids? No problem: attach Valco’s Hitchhiker Ride-On Board for your oldest child; and all four can ride in style….”

Do I need a double buggy for my newborn and toddler?

When you’re planning for or expecting another baby, you’ll put a lot of thought into how a new addition might alter your existing family set-up. From planning where your new baby will sleep, and if they will have your toddler’s former cot or if it will still be in use, to how you will get out and about with two little nippers, there are a lot of logistics to sort.

Do I need a double buggy?

This is one of the first things most parents wonder, and it can sometimes be difficult to know for certain. Sometimes it’s fairly clear-cut — with a tiny age gap of 16 months, for example, buying a double buggy is a no-brainer as your eldest child may have only just taken her first steps and definitely still be very reliant on the pushchair.

If you have a different age gap, for example a newborn and a toddler of between 2 and 3 years old, you might wonder if you can manage without a double pram. This really depends on your circumstances, and we cover some common scenarios for using a double buggy below, together with some alternative options for managing without.

Will I need a double buggy for a newborn and toddler?

Before you buy a double buggy, you want to feel confident you’ll get plenty of use from your investment. Asking yourself the following can help:

  • What age will my eldest be when my new baby arrives?

If your older child will be around 3, it might be possible to find an alternative to a double buggy. However, it can be tricky to know for sure as, if your new arrival isn’t due for 6 months, you can’t be confident how much walking your tot will be doing by then! It’s wisest, therefore, to consider lifestyle factors, in addition to the age of your toddler.

  • How much walking do I do currently?

If you enjoy long walks with your little one in a pushchair, a double buggy is probably worth investing in, as 2 and 3 year olds only have little legs. They can’t walk far and they can’t walk fast, so if you usually walk a mile or two and plan to continue this, it will be tricky without a double pushchair.

What’s more, if you plan for your new baby to take some naps in the pushchair, it can be tough to make this happen if your toddler is stopping every 30 seconds to inspect a leaf, watch a bus or sit on the floor just because!

If, however, you mainly drive or use public transport when out, you may find life easier without a double buggy. They’re naturally a lot bigger, so harder to weave on and off buses and fit in boots. If you tend to drive places and then just have short walks from there, your youngest can be in a single pushchair and your eldest can probably manage to walk or use a buggy board.

  • Are my local roads busy?

This is worth thinking about from a safety point of view. Even if you think your toddler can reliably walk a certain distance, if you have a lively little one who occasionally bolts off, a double buggy can be a good choice to keep her safe and stop your heart from leaping into your mouth every 30 seconds! This is especially true near busy roads or if you live in an area with narrow pavements making it trickier to keep your toddler walking safely with you holding on to the pram.

  • Will my toddler still be napping?

Some toddlers nap until well into their third year whereas some have stopped by aged 2. Unfortunately, you won’t know for sure which end of the scale your toddler will be at by the time her sibling arrives, but it’s worth considering a double if she currently naps on the go a lot. Even toddlers who have largely stopped napping will often still have a sneaky sleep in the pushchair or car for months following, so if you’re planning lots of longer trips out, a double buggy might be the way to go.

What options are there besides buying a double buggy?

Fortunately, there’s lots of choice for transporting your two nippers, once you decide on what best fits your needs. Here are some alternatives to using a double buggy:

Buggy boards

Most single pushchairs are compatible with a toddler ride on board or buggy board, making navigating two children on short journeys simple and easy. They don’t work so well if your toddler wants a nap, but are perfect for shorter trips out and about.

Using a baby carrier

Slings or baby carriers are a popular choice for many, including those with just one baby. If you opted for this combo, your newborn would be positioned in the sling or carrier and your toddler in the single pushchair. It can be tricky to do some things in a sling, such as lift your toddler if she needs help on the climbing frame, but the upside is they leave your hands free and lots of babies sleep really well in them because they’re so cocooned.

Converting your single pushchair to a double

Depending on your make of pushchair, it may be possible to convert it into a double. This saves you paying out for a whole new pushchair, and also usually means you can have part of the pushchair with a carrycot or car seat for your newborn, and the other part with the seat unit for your toddler. This handy guide gives the lowdown on converting a single pushchair to a double.

Best Stroller for 3-Year-Old and Infant

Being a mom is a full-time job and it can get quite hectic when you have two or more little ones to look after while on the go. Being a mom to a 3-year-old and an infant can be even more hectic though.

Three is a very busy and active age. They’re running, climbing and playing, but eventually they’re going to get tired. When your busy toddler decides they’re tired, a double stroller can be very helpful. Finding the right one is key. You’re going to need one to accommodate both your toddler and infant. This may prove to be slightly stressful.

There are a variety of double strollers on the market. When it comes to accommodating your toddler and infant, a travel system style would be very beneficial. With the compatible car seat you can easily attach the infant seat, leaving the open seat for your busy toddler and going from car to stroller in one fell swoop.

There is no need to go with a travel system either. Some double strollers aren’t designed to be travel systems and your infant can easily fit the regular seat without the car seat. Equipped with a three or five-point harness, your infant will be safe and snug, even without a car seat attachment.

Most double strollers are designed to be lightweight and, in most cases, easy to fold. There are side-by-side seating, tandem seating or sit and stand options available. All three are designed to fit through standard doorways.

Some are designed for parents who enjoy jogging or hiking, therefore would be fitted with all-terrain tires and shock absorption for a smooth ride when venturing through rougher paths. Others are designed for more casual use, equipped with smaller, lighter tires, like the sit and stand option.

Below we will discuss a variety of double strollers to help you find the one most beneficial for you and your family. Like single strollers, double strollers are designed to be maneuverable, comfortable and fit through standard size doorways and store aisles.

Things to Consider when Purchasing a Double Stroller for a 3-Year-Old and an Infant

When deciding on the right double stroller for your 3-year-old and infant, think about some things that will be important to you. Here are some considerations you might think about:

Size

As a parent, chances are you’re always on the go. In that case, you will want to go for something that can fit through standard size doors and can easily fold for transportation or storage.

If you’re like me and have limited storage space, you’ll want to consider something a little more compact to easily store up and out of the way. Some are able to stand on their own when folded, making it easy to find a storage spot, without taking up a whole lot of space.

What You’ll Be Using the Stroller for

Think about some of the different places you’ll be using your stroller. If you’re going to be going jogging or hiking, you may want to purchase one with all-terrain tires and shock absorption to ensure a smooth ride.

However, if you’re looking for a more casual stroller, those features may not be a concern for you. In that case, you might consider a sit and stand design. This could be useful for those light strolls. Keeping baby close, but also giving your toddler the freedom to walk on their own or stand on the platform when they need a rest.

Folding

As a busy mom with two or more kids, you’re going to want a stroller that’s easy to fold. You don’t want a difficult folding stroller when you have your hands full with the kids.

Luckily, the strollers I’ve listed come complete with one-handed folding options, making those busy days more bearable.

Customizing Options

Some strollers are customizable to fit your exact needs, giving you endless possibilities. The best thing about this option is the fact you’re not stuck with something someone else decided was important. You can choose from a variety of add-ons such as cup holders, cooler bags, and even extra storage if you need it.

With some companies that offer the travel system option like Britax and Baby Jogger, you’re not stuck with an infant car seat you don’t like. As long as the car seat is compatible with the stroller, you have some options when it comes to the car seat you will be using.

Some double strollers can be turned into a sit and stand stroller or have removable bumpers for easy access to your child and adjustable footrests for the comfort of your little ones.

Top Double Strollers for a 3-Year-Old and Infant

The different options for double strollers seem to be endless, but after going through the many different options, I have compiled a list of the best double strollers for a 3-year-old and an infant.

Just remember to stick to your priorities when picking the double stroller that’s right for you and your little ones.

The B-Agile is a favorite among parents because it’s double design allows space for your little ones, but the frame isn’t too wide and easily fits through standard size doors.

The large under carriage basket is perfect for carrying your larger items and can easily be accessed through the footrest or in the back. For your smaller items, there are two zippered pockets located behind the seats.

The handle can be adjusted to a height you find comfortable and when it’s time for you to rest, the linked parking brake will keep the stroller in place. While the lightweight frame allows for a quick one-handed fold to be stored for later use.

Both seats in this double stroller come with their own sun shade, protecting your little ones from any type of weather and the adjustable, five-point harness will keep them safe and secure. When it’s time to nap, the seats offer numerous recline positions to keep them comfortable.

Double Stroller vs Wagon: What’s Best for Your Family?

I always say that there’s no one fits all, or this is the best of the best item because I think it depends on what are your needs, lifestyle, budget and preferences.

Before my second son was born I had certain expectations about a double stroller I wanted to get and I tested a ton… just to find out that there’s really no stroller that’s perfect overall and every single one has some cons.

A wagon is pretty useless because you don’t want to keep pulling it non-stop – you need to think about a stroller wagon that you can push and pull. But, I’m not going to tell you that a stroller wagon is better than a double stroller. It depends on your life situation and most importantly on your kids and for some families certain things will work better or not work at all.

I personally like having both a double stroller and a stroller wagon.

Do you need a double stroller with a baby and toddler?

You need something for the kids to ride on. Don’t make my mistake and listen to more experienced parents when it comes to it.

Before my first son was born everyone was telling us we’ll need two strollers: one for home and one for travel. We thought it was completely unnecessary because why have two… 3 months and lots of frustrating situations later when traveling with a baby, my husband was the one who ordered the travel stroller.

When the second baby was born we thought “do we really need a double stroller when the toddler can walk?”. After endless situations that 10 minutes in the toddler started to extend his arms yelling “carry me daddy!” we realized that yes, we very much need a vehicle for both kids.

In Short…

  • If you have a newborn – no need for a stroller wagon just yet
  • If you have twins – easiest solution: double stroller at first, then you can add a wagon after they turn 1
  • If you have one toddler – standard stroller or tricycle is best, no need for a stroller wagon
  • If you have a newborn & toddler under 3 – double stroller until the baby can sit on their own, then switch to a stroller wagon if you wish
  • If you have a newborn & toddler over 3 – might get away with a single stroller and buggy board, then get the wagon for longer trips once the baby can sit independantly
  • If you have multiple kids – get a wagon when most are toddlers and babywear the newborn until he/she can sit comfortable (about 9 months)

However, most importantly, you don’t NEED a stroller wagon. You need A vehicle to transport your children, that’s all. A stroller wagon can be helpful, but if you don’t have the funds or feel like you won’t get too much use out of it, then don’t get it.

I really hate when parents are being talked into various “must-have items” because everyone wants them and celebrities promote them and in reality, and while some might be convenient to use they’re not necessary at all (eg. Doona, Baby Breeza milk machine, or Uppababy Vista stroller). I feel like I’m the worst salesperson by saying it, but that’s the truth.

Who can use a Stroller Wagon?

In general, wagons are used for toddlers and kids between 12 months and 5 years. Most wagons don’t have comprehensive safety protection for younger infants.

However, there are some stroller wagons, that are designed for babies as young as 6 months. Yet, I’d still tell you to wait till the baby is slightly older – I explained it why in my specific wagon review as this one is often recommended for smaller infants.

Portability issues with both

Portability and folding mechanism depend on the brand. Some fold great, others are giant monsters.

The majority of strollers can fold down and fit in a bigger car – I’m underlining a bigger car because for example, good luck stuffing a double Bugaboo Donkey into my Tesla, on top of shopping.

Some stroller wagons are gigantic when folded and won’t fit into smaller cars. We have one of the most portable wagon strollers and when I was debating bringing it on my trip my husband pointed out that there’s no way it can fit in a trunk of a taxi along with a suitcase. Or bring up the stairs frankly unless two people are involved.

Wagons are not the greatest for travel, public transportation, or long city trip when kids still nap. Most parents agree that they could never get away with just the wagon and no stroller.

Strollers can be used for sleeping

Wagons are really just for sitting, because most seats don’t even offer a recline. While I saw parents converting Keenz wagon and Evenflo Pivot to a sleeping bassinet, it only works if one child sleeps and the other one walks. If you want both to nap, it’s not really possible.

Not every wagon stroller or double stroller can hangle all terrain

Wagons are commonly recommended because they’re claimed to be easier to push and drive on all terrains. I recently read a review of someone who complained their wagon didn’t ride on the sandy beach – of course, it won’t, it’s not an ATV.

Not to mention, if you load an already heavy wagon with multiple kids, cooler and other stuff, you’ll be pushing a huge amount of weight which isn’t easy even on the flat surface.

Quite frankly, it’s much easier to push a double stroller like BOB than any stroller wagon. My wagon rides on all-terrain vs my Zoe double stroller does not, but if I compared a Radio Flyer stroller wagon to any stroller with big wheels it will naturally perform terribly.

Safety features: is stroller wagon safe?

There are many kids’ wagons and stroller wagons on the market, and many have no straps. Get yourself one with a strap for sure.

While most wagons say they’re suitable for 6 months plus, just like the stroller seat, it’s not entirely true. Even buckled in I just don’t feel like there is enough support for a child. In fact, my 10 month old who has been sitting independently unsupported for months now lost control recently and smacked his head into the snack track on my wagon recently.

Comfort of the kiddos

One of the top arguments in favor of stroller wagons is that kids can self-board it. It’s true for some because they might have a zip-door or folding entryway, I’m yet to see any toddler having issues self-boarding a regular stroller as well.

While I enjoy my own wagon, I must say that my toddler has more issues getting into it than he has when it comes to getting into the double stroller. He can still do it though, but he’s basically as high as 4 year old so I guess a standard size 2-year-old wouldn’t be able to do get into the wagon unassisted.

It’s definitely hard to keep an eye on kiddos in a wagon, so it’s more likely kiddos will poke each other, throw things out, or rummage through all the snacks. Even when one is a baby, trust me.

Lenght of use

Both strollers and wagon strollers can last throughout toddlerhood. Strollers usually last from the newborn stage to 3.5 years, then seats become small and less comfortable. Many kids are not interested in sitting in a stroller – my own child hated the stroller even under 2 years of age and would only accept a tricycle, but he still needed something when he had done enough walking.

Wagons can last from 12 months to 5 years so technically they can be used longer. However, at this age, most parents transfer their stuff in it at this point. I personally wouldn’t want to encourage my 5 year old to ride in a wagon instead of walking or using a bicycle.

Storage

Stroller wagons are acclaimed for storage. If you head to a park (well, unless it’s Disney as stroller wagons are banned from Disney World parks) you’ll see families dragging their giant coolers and toys on top of a wagon. The thing is… it’s not entirely true.

If you look at any wagon carefully you’ll realize there’s not much storage if two kids are sitting in it! Some have an extra basket, but they’re fairly small. In a double stroller, there’s normally a space underneath but most wagons just have small pockets.

Alternatives to Double Stroller or Stroller Wagon

I’ll be very real: the vast majority of my European friends don’t have either unless they have twins. Most parents use two separate strollers for two kids because any other option isn’t very practical.

It’s basically one parents = one kid on a stroller. What if you’re a stay-at-home mom, or lucky to get long maternity leave?

Usually with 2 kids, baby starts in our single stroller, and then when my toddler gets tired, you put the baby in a carrier and the toddler gets in the stroller. But, wearing one kid while pushing another isn’t always easy, especially when we’re walking on hills so I don’t see it as a solution for longer trips and this option is not for everyone.

Another option is to teach your toddler how to ride something before the sibling is born. Various parents opt for a scooter or balance bike, as those two provide entertainment and a spot to rest. Plus, it will give your toddler a head start in terms of balancing skills.

Verdict

Wagons are good if you mostly drive somewhere, then walk around. If you take public transit or are out long enough that kids needs a nap, a stroller is probably the answer.

Best Double Strollers

The Bugaboo Donkey 3 is very versatile as it can be arranged in multiple ways for 1, 2, or 3 children but the price tag is exceptionally high, yet it does have high ratings among the customers who did purchase this high tech, 29″ stroller.   The Peg Perego is also costly, but it is a stroller designed for twins as you can use it for two bassinets, car seats, and as a standard double stroller.  Also 29″ wide, it is longer than the Bagaboo Stroller, but the ratings among parents is a less less than our first choice.

Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Double Stroller

Quality

Popularity

Baby Jogger makes our “best of” lists quite often, and here we are again with the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Double Stroller. This stroller is the recent update of the much-loved City Mini GT stroller.

This double stroller is fully compatible with either a car seat or bassinet, which is great for children with an age gap. It has bigger tires made of rubber (Baby Jogger’s “forever air” rubber) and all-wheel suspension for nearly unbeatable handling on a wide variety of terrains, including the dreaded gravel. And at just shy of 33 pounds, it has enough heft to support a 50-pound child in each seat.

It Is Stylish

When Baby Jogger redesigned the City Mini GT, they kept the sleek look that it’s known for. The dark materials, dark accents, and richly-hued-yet-neutral fabrics all scream high-end. But this stroller has both style and substance. Other features like the adjustable handlebar, handbrake and big storage basket will keep parents happy. The reclining seat, adjustable calf supports, and big canopies will keep children happy, too.

Why I Like It
  • It is narrow: This side-by-side stroller is only around 30 inches wide, which is perfect for going to Disney or going through doorways.
  • It has a ton of features: The price of this stroller is on the higher side, but the functionality, features, and style totally justify the price.

Bugaboo Donkey3 Double Stroller

Quality

Popularity

If you want a stroller that has the function of a tandem stroller with the design of a side-by-side stroller, then the Bugaboo Donkey3 Double Stroller is the perfect choice for your family.

This stroller can be configured to have any combination of a bassinet, a toddler seat, or a side luggage basket. It’s perfect for putting twins of any age next to each other or putting a toddler and baby next to each other. And the transition is easy: expanding the stroller out can be done in “just three clicks,” as the company says. Nearly every part of this beautiful stroller can be adjusted to meet your needs.

It is Shockingly Compact

With all these features, you’d think this would be a great big stroller. But in double mode, it’s only 29 inches wide. That’s crazy narrow! And with that sleek design goes great handling. One parent commented that she thought this stroller had better handling than her car! That’s thanks to the large EVA foam tires with lockable front wheels. The stroller frame can also be adjusted to be pulled behind you, which is super cool!

Why I Like It
  • It has a smart, modular design: Whether you have one, two, or three kids, you can use this stroller. I love the ability to change and interchange seats and storage baskets as kids grow and change.
  • It folds so small: You can remove both the front and back wheels to fold the stroller frame down very small. Stack the seats on top of the folded frame and it’ll fit easily in any trunk.

Peg Perego Duette Piroet Atmosphereo Stroller

Price$$$$

Quality

Popularity

The Peg Perego Duette Piroet Atmosphereo Stroller is the perfect travel system double stroller for twins.

This stroller is made in Italy and has a European style. While the carriage is a bit longer, this stroller can accommodate two bassinets, which is why I think it’s perfect for twins. Also, this stroller has sturdy, soft-ride wheels for smooth pushing. Each of the three-seat types – bassinet, infant carrier, and standard stroller seat – includes its own large canopy to protect infants and toddlers from the elements. Overall, this is a great option for families of multiples.

It is Great for Twins

This Peg Perego stroller model is a great option for twins. The versatile and larger seat size allows the room needed for two infants to each be in a bassinet seat. Plus, this stroller should last for all the years you will need to transport your twins, from newborns to preschool age.

Why I  Like It

  • It is versatile: I like that this double stroller is versatile for families with multiple children and has roomier seats than some other tandem strollers.
  • It is a smooth ride: The wheel design on this stroller makes for a bump-free going. Also, while this stroller is long, it is narrow enough to fit easily through most doors.

The Chicco Cortina Together Double Stroller is this author’s personal favorite tandem double stroller. The Chicco brand is top in quality and usability. This double stroller is a top pick because it easily allows for two KeyFit or KeyFit 30 infant car seats to click into the stroller. This makes it a perfect option for twins.

The Chicco Cortina Together Double Stroller is at a great price point to fit the needs of many different families. While it isn’t at the low end for price, it falls nicely in the middle range. This stroller offers amazing quality at a fair price.

The Graco Uno2Duo Double Stroller is easily the most creative double stroller on the market.

This stroller starts as a single stroller with all the functions of most travel systems including a bassinet setting and infant seat. Guide to Selecting a Double Stroller

When looking for a double stroller, you want safety, quality, and value. The Mayo Clinic offers a helpful guide on stroller safety, including tips for children with special needs.

The key to finding the best double stroller for your family is to evaluate your needs and your budget. Purchase the best available stroller in the category that best fits your needs.

I found that having multiple strollers for our family’s various needs worked well. I had a child with a medical issue that required a special stroller; therefore, I highly value the advice and insight from other parents on quality baby products.

Functionality

Strollers are a big-ticket baby item and functionality is important. Start by determining what you will use the stroller for most often. Consider whether you plan to stay on city sidewalks or head off-road on trails.

For tandem travel systems, compatibility with bassinets and infant car seats is a key feature. And with two children, a lightweight double stroller is always good to have. Look for the features you need to get the function you expect from your stroller.

Price

Double strollers aren’t cheap in most cases. Before you begin shopping determine your budget. It is almost impossible to find a double stroller under $200 that is a quality product. A quality and high-functioning double stroller can easily hit almost $1000.

Read reviews and guides like this one to determine which stroller option offers the best quality and functionality for your budget. If you do your research, you can find a good double stroller for under $500.

Quality

Remember, you almost always get what you pay for, and this principle applies to double strollers as well. Whether you have twins or are adding a new baby to your family, you will likely need to use your stroller for at least five years.

Not only that, but a quality stroller can often fetch a good resale value. Look for a double stroller with a metal frame like aluminum and sturdy wheels. Also, select a brand trusted for its quality.

FAQs – Double Strollers

Do I really need a double stroller if my kids are 2 years apart?

Okay, so I’m sure you are looking at the higher price of double strollers and asking yourself if you really need one. After all, if you have a kid that’s 2 or older, and then another one that’s an infant, you are questioning if it will really come in handy.

Honestly, there are two options for toting around 2 kids:

  1. Get the double stroller. It can hold the newborn baby and the toddler. Your toddler might not be in it every second, but at least you have the option.
  2. Invest in a great baby carrier. You can put the newborn in the carrier and by the time the newborn really needs the stroller, say around 6 months, your toddler will be older and more willing and able to walk on their own.

You’ll have to make the call based on your own family and how often you go places, where you go, how much your toddler likes to walk, etc. But I will say this: it’s always good to have the option of an extra seat when you need it. If you don’t need it, you’ll still get more storage space in the stroller.

Do double strollers meet the new Disney size requirements?

Yes! Thank goodness! Strollers have to be no wider than 31 and no longer than 52. And since you can’t take a stroller wagon into Disney parks anymore, a good double stroller is your best bet. If you need some specific ideas, check out our Disney stroller recommendations.

Should I get a tandem double stroller or a side-by-side double stroller?

Again, this is another choice that depends on your kids and your family. Here’s a good way to help make the decision:

  • If your kids are close in age and enjoy each other’s company, you will benefit from a side-by-side double stroller
  • If your kids have an age gap, you might like a tandem stroller better, since it will separate the new baby from the curious older sibling

Keep in mind that if you plan to use your double stroller as a travel system, putting a car seat into a double stroller takes up a lot of space, and side-by-sides are short on space as it is.

Are there single strollers that can convert to double strollers?

Yes! If you have any doubts at all about whether you need a double stroller, or whether or not your family is done growing, you should absolutely get a single stroller that converts into a double stroller. We recommend the UPPABABY Vista or the Graco Uno2Duo stroller as the best convertible strollers. Also check out the Baby Jogger City Select Lux for a fabulous convertible stroller option.

Do I need a double stroller?

If you are having twins, you will obviously need a double stroller.

What is nice to know, though, is that a double stroller can also be a great solution for two children of different ages, so if you have a baby and toddler, a double-stroller might be just as useful.

Some strollers even allow one rider and one stander, so if you have a 3-year-old who mostly walks but occasionally gets tired, he or she could join your baby or toddler on the stroller.

How much does a double stroller cost?

Double strollers are relatively expensive. A good double stroller can be bought for $500, but the price can easily reach $1000.

Is a tandem stroller better, or a side-by-side?

This is a subjective call. ExperiencedMommy suggests that twins might enjoy riding side-by-side, but that if you have, for example, an infant and a curious toddler, you might prefer the tandem stroller.

My children were 25 months apart, however, and the two enjoyed each other from the beginning. So, if we had purchased a double stroller, I would probably have chosen the side-by-side so that they could enjoy each other.

If you prefer to have a stroller that accommodates a baby and an older child, standing, that will be a stand-and-sit stroller, which is a tandem arrangement.

At what age should my child be out of a stroller?

Most children should be able to walk by about three years. Still, a child may occasionally need to ride, if you are going to walk 13 miles per day at Disney World, for example, or you are navigating a massive crowd or heavy traffic and need to know that your child is secured.

What factors should I consider in selecting a double stroller?

  • Your budget
  • How long do you think this solution will work for your family?
  • Side-by-side, tandem, or sit-and-stand?
  • Wheels (rotating? large for rougher terrain? and ride)
  • Stroller weight
  • Ease of collapsing
  • Collapsed size
  • Cargo weight limit
  • Sun/bug protection

TOTS

A well-chosen stroller is the key to the comfort and health of the child. There are many types, and each has both advantages and disadvantages. One of them is a stroller, which is light in weight. But from what age of a child to use it? All mothers should know the answer to this question.

At what age should you start using the stroller?

The stroller differs from the “cradle” or “transformer” in that it is designed specifically for comfortable walks. In it, the baby can be in a sitting position, look at everything around and, thus, learn about the world. And these strollers are notable for their low weight, which is a decisive argument for most mothers, especially those living on the top floors of five-story buildings without elevators.

But strollers are not suitable for newborns and babies in the first months of life, since such children have not developed enough spine, and increased loads on it can lead to curvature. The minimum age at which a child can be transplanted into this “transport” is five or six months. But most pediatricians recommend waiting until the baby sits up on its own or maintains that position. Therefore, if the baby makes active attempts, and some of them are successful, then it is worth waiting a month or two.

Tip: If you are actively using the seat unit and it no longer fits your child’s body, then it’s time to replace it with a full-fledged stroller.

Why can’t these strollers be used earlier?

Strollers are not dangerous if used at the right age. If you rush things, then active exploitation will provoke a curvature of the spine. There are several reasons for this possible negative impact:0006

Curved and uneven bottom. Babies of the first months of life should be in a horizontal position most of the time, and irregularities will cause discomfort and inevitably change the position to the wrong one.

Insufficient cushioning. Lightweight strollers with small wheels are not very stable and shake when driving on uneven surfaces, which may not please or even harm the child.

Insufficient protection. Most strollers do not have side rails to keep out the wind.

How to choose the right option?

It is important to choose the right model for your baby to be comfortable in the stroller. Important criteria are:

Folding mechanism. The first option is a “book” (when folded, the model resembles a book). The second option is a cane (when folding, the handles approach each other and connect, so the design resembles a long cane). Walking sticks are less stable but lighter in weight. “Books” are much more reliable, but heavier.

Manufacturer’s information. The manufacturer is obliged to provide information about the product: features of operation, age restrictions, precautions.

Backrest positions. For a 6-8 month old baby, choose a model that assumes a horizontal lying position so that the baby rests or sleeps. The stroller can have from two to four positions, smooth adjustment is also possible.

The suspension is provided by the wheels. If they are elastic and large, then the baby will not shake even while driving on rough roads. And small plastic wheels will not provide proper cushioning, so this option is not suitable for kids.

Handle. The ability to move it will allow you to change the position of the child: he will be able to look ahead or see his mother.

● For summer, choose the stroller with a wide canopy covering the seat to protect your baby from the scorching sun in hot weather.

Cover is an essential accessory to protect against the cold in the cold season, and the denser it is, the better.

The restraints and straps prevent the child from falling if they accidentally move forward or lose their balance.

Color and pattern are less important, but the bright stroller will be interesting for the baby, because he will be able to see the patterns. And it is better to avoid catchy and saturated shades, they negatively affect the nervous system.

When and how to use the stroller?

The stroller is designed for walks that will be comfortable for a small child if it is warm outside. Therefore, the best time to start operation will be summer or late spring. In winter, it is better to use a stable and frost-protecting transforming model or “3 in 1”.

If the baby is just getting to know the stroller, then he must get used to it, so first put him in and let him get comfortable, look around, adapt to a new and yet unknown environment. It is better to have a child at the age of six months lying down so that his back does not strain and does not get tired. If the baby is 8-9 years oldmonths, choose a reclining or sitting position, but preferably not for long. At one year old, the child sits for a long time and begins to try to take the first steps or is already actively walking.

Terms of use

The baby in the stroller will be comfortable, but the mother must follow the sensations. If the child constantly slides, the wrong position may have been chosen: try changing it to a suitable one. If he is acting up, it is probably due to overheating due to the sun or lack of air, or with the wind blowing in his face. In this case, move the cover or visor. In the case when the baby tries to stand up or sits for a long time, change the sitting position.

To level the surface, use a mattress suitable for the size of the seat. Try adding a flat cushion to make your stroller more comfortable.

Advice: At first, the seat will be visible, so the baby can keep an eye on mom and not worry. And then change the position of the handle: so the child will be able to see more and learn about the world around him.

Do not use the stroller if the child is small. Choose the right model and, starting operation, follow the simple rules.

stroller from birth

ARTICLES

WALKING FROM BIRTHDAY – POSSIBLE?

This is not only the most frequently asked question, but also the THAT complete set, which they don’t even try to consider … But in vain!
Many are convinced that the minimum stroller from birth can only be 2in1 or 3in1 (namely, the mandatory presence of a cradle) – AND HERE IS NOT! It’s just that everyone came up with a framework, and they don’t think to look further into a more practical and profitable option. Sometimes, however, it is much more correct and rational to buy just a walk from birth or a walk + car seat, FOR THE SAME MONEY, BUT better and more comfortable than all the monotonous Polish tanks or cheap replicas of expensive brands.
I’m explaining…

The presence of a cradle is certainly good, BUT it ONLY VISUALLY reassures you that there are walls in the very block that is placed on the frame of the stroller, well, it seems to be safer and “WARMER”… Most of all I am amazed by people who still say winter-summer stroller, such as 2in1, winter is a cradle, and summer is a walking sitting block. Forget this expression, please, it is from the last century. Regardless of the time of year, a newborn needs a horizontal position, and from 6 months, a block with the ability to adjust the backrest, YES, BUT this does not mean a MANDATORY PRESENCE OF A CRADITA! because fully lying down, the ability to adjust the backrest – it’s all there in a regular stroller with a reversible block (facing you and vice versa). So is it possible to use just a stroller from birth – YES, YES and AGAIN YES! OF COURSE IT IS POSSIBLE! WHY NOT!?

Be more rational than the vast majority of people on this planet, look further … and as an option we will consider in detail. Why do people think that the bassinet is warmer? I personally do not know and more than that I do not understand! In my opinion, the presence of walls in the cradle does not provide warmth in it, judge adequately: there is a child in the cradle, it is cold outside, the space that is in the cradle is still filled with cold, it is not airtight. REMEMBER: THE CRAFT WALLS DO NOT WARM THE CHILD – NO! The only thing that saves him from the cold is well-chosen clothes, overalls or a winter bag! Well, what about the wind, you say, it seems that the walls are saving it … Oooh … in a sense, yes, but also no. No – I mean there are other ways to make your baby’s nest warm… There are some very cool winter bags, very warm, ones that are much warmer than some overalls or other cradle shelters. There are bags in a stroller that protect against bad weather, wind and other factors in the form of precipitation better than a cradle … or equivalent … argue with me, do whatever you want, BUT IT’S SO! Here is one of the options in photo

There are warm winter bags of very good quality, which are water-repellent, not blown at all, in which you can additionally put blankets inside and, returning from walks, you will see that I was right … the baby’s legs, arms – everything is warm. About winter bags I will say that no matter what company you choose, they are all universal and will fit absolutely any stroller. The point is that these bags have slots for seat belts, they are universal (after all, all strollers have the same arrangement of 5-point harnesses), you pass these straps FROM THE CARRIER through these slots in the bag, fasten the child, and it DOES NOT IMPORTANT the child lies on a walk or sitting, a newborn or grown-up baby, he is securely fastened to the stroller (it won’t fall out anywhere, don’t worry), and at the same time he has a warm bag everywhere on the back, behind the legs, in front, everywhere – IT IS MORE WARMER and MORE HERMETIC THAN THE CRAFT or REGULAR FOOT CAP! Winter bags are large on average 80-95 cm, they are suitable for both a newborn and there will even be a place to put on a jumpsuit for a baby or put a blanket-plaids, and for a grown up, even a 3-year-old child . ..

And this winter bag can also be used in general instead of a cape. About the functionality of capes, which is better a cape or a bag?… next time I’ll tell you… they say, for some, these are generally the only factors for walking … for most. I assure you, if it’s raining outside, frost and wind, a snowstorm or a blizzard, not a single adequate parent will walk for a long time, FOR BAD WEATHER THERE IS ALWAYS A BALCONY OR NEAR THE YARD, FOR A SHORT ~10-20 MINUTES! Some choose a stroller according to such criteria as if they are going to war, honestly … of course, the exceptions are more northern cities, when there is no other weather, but even from there there are adequate customers who rationally understand that a light stroller + a good warm envelope is better, not necessarily passable, because if snowdrifts, even a heavy tank, an all-terrain vehicle gets stuck, no one has canceled the universal skis that are put on the wheels of a stroller, if you are interested in what kind of skis, write to me and tell me . ..

The second question that worries future parents is the horizontal position of the bed.

Yes, indeed, in cradles there is a strictly horizontal sleeping place, and in strollers with a reversible block there is no strictly horizontal, very slight, hardly perceptible inclination. The same slope as in cribs (transparent in maternity hospitals).

Have you ever wondered why they make such a bias in the beds in the maternity hospital? Now I will explain why the same slight slope is a PLUS in the stroller seat. Usually, when we are going for a walk (especially in the winter season), we feed the child well so that he does not suddenly ask for food during a walk (frost), and as soon as he has eaten, we wrap him up, put him in a stroller and walk … be like ” column” around the apartment for 10-15 minutes (for the child to burp air) there is not much time, we put the baby in a stroller and walk while we walk, the child can burp air, but since he lies strictly horizontally in the cradle, he can choke, because. air comes out with milk, it is good for this when the child’s head is slightly above the level of the pelvis. The back is not curved, it is sloped, BUT it is strictly even from the buttocks to the top of the head and there is no load on the spine for the back for the child, believe me, there is less slope even than in “car seats 0+”.

When I had a standard classic stroller, even there in the cradle, I personally put blankets on it so that at least a little bit my head was higher, I felt calmer, really. And in strollers there is already a minimum slope of the back – THANK YOU FOR THIS stroller manufacturers! So where you are afraid of a bias and consider it a minus, on the contrary, I consider it a significant plus. In all strollers in the instructions they write from 6 months, do not let these lines in the characteristics bother you, these are just the subtleties of customs clearance and fitting the specifications of goods to strict Euro standards, to the string of which our country dances.

SO DON’T WORRY! Any doubts? I ALLOW YOU TO GET THEM OUT OF YOUR HEAD AND BOLDLY BUY A JUST WALK FROM BIRTH OR A WALK + A CAR SEAT WHICH IS PUT ON THE STROLLER FRAME! DO NOT ALLOW YOURSELF TO BEND UNDER THE CONVINCES OF MANY, YOU HAVE YOUR HEAD ON YOUR SHOULDERS, YOU DECIDE WHAT IS BEST FOR YOUR BABY AND YOU!

I hope you had at least something useful to learn from this post! If yes, put your hearts, save to favorites, VERY WAITING FOR ANY COMMENTS!

What you need in a stroller for a newborn

A new, comfortable, beautiful, elegant stroller has been bought and is standing in the hallway, waiting for the little owner. How to properly cover a stroller for a newborn? What is put in a stroller for a newborn besides a rattle?

What you need in a stroller for a newborn

Packing for a walk for a young mother is a real test of foresight. After all, if you forgot something, you will either have to ask for help or return home. With a stroller, you don’t run much on the floors, and only dad can leave the child near the entrance and go for a forgotten thing.

Featured Products

What to put in a stroller for a newborn

  1. Water bottle – only during the warm season. In autumn, winter, spring, the baby should not drink water on the street, because it has become very cold. If the child is used to sucking some water or juice, it is recommended to keep the bottle in a thermos or put it in a blanket so that it warms up with his warmth;
  2. Not everyone takes a bottle of food. Usually you can calculate quite accurately when the baby is hungry, and there is no need to feed him on the street. Moreover, it is absolutely impossible to use cold milk formula, and even more so to store it in a warm place. Feed your baby at home;
  3. Spare diapers and wet wipes;
  4. Spare set of clothes: diapers, of course, are reliable, but babies often manage to outplay them;
  5. Rattles, musical toys – everything that can attract the attention of a child;
  6. For yourself a book, a phone, a cosmetic bag – in a word, everything that will help not to get bored;
  7. Take a soft seat cushion for cold weather. You have to walk with children for a long time, and spending all this time on your feet is an extra burden.
  8. What to put in a stroller for a newborn

Every mother should know how to fill a stroller for a newborn. There are several important points here:

  • Children are supposed to sleep on a flat surface, preferably horizontal. Place a mattress on the hard bottom of the stroller. If the child does not have allergies, choose a mattress with natural filling, for example, with buckwheat husks. It is quite rigid, keeps its shape well;
  • A diaper is placed on top. Of course the mattress has a cover. But you have only one, and it must be protected from pollution;
  • You do not need to put a pillow in the stroller for a newborn, but if the baby does not sleep well without it, buy him a special pillow for babies. Orthopedic pillows are used only as prescribed by a doctor;
  • Of course, there must be a blanket.

The bed of the baby should correspond to the season.

What to put in a stroller for a newborn in summer

In summer, it is pleasant not only to sleep in a stroller, but also to play. Bedding is used at a minimum. A blanket, an envelope will be absolutely superfluous.

Baby bottoms get sweaty from constant diaper wear. What to put in a stroller for a newborn so that he can be undressed in the heat? An ordinary medical oilcloth, which can be bought at a pharmacy, is suitable. Lay it under the diaper. The medical oilcloth looks unsightly, but it is much more convenient than any other: it is not slippery, and the diaper will not move out of it.

What is put in a stroller for a newborn in autumn

In spring and autumn, air baths for children are no longer satisfied, and therefore they do not put oilcloth. Dress the baby according to the weather, instead of the usual cotton diaper, lay a flannel or baechka in the stroller. To sleep, you will need a woolen blanket or blanket. Autumn envelopes are also suitable.

What to put in the stroller for a newborn in winter

In the cold season, it is necessary to carefully monitor that the child does not catch a cold. Small children get cold faster than adults.

However, walking outside in winter is a must: children sleep very well in the air. Many fall asleep as soon as they feel a change in the outside temperature.

What do you need in a stroller for a newborn in winter so that he is not cold? Lots of options:

  1. Insulated sleeping bag: the most comfortable solution for winter. Dressing a newborn baby in winter clothes is a difficult and nervous task, and in an envelope he will feel like a chicken in a warm nest. The envelopes are convenient to use: just put the child in and zip up. However, do not forget that the head will need a winter hat;
  2. Many blankets: under the bottom, up, around;
  3. Children’s insulated overalls: good for those who are already sitting, but the kids get lost in them.

Do not take your child outside hot tea, even with herbs. He can catch a cold by inhaling cold air with a warm mouth.

What to put in a stroller for a newborn so that he does not freeze and does not get sick? Perhaps someone will disagree, but modern children, who have everything they need in a stroller for a newborn, are more likely to get sick from the heat than from the cold. Wrapped up for the weather, the children sweat, and then the slightest breeze is enough to make them catch a cold. Especially often this happens if the child fell asleep in the winter in a stroller, and upon arrival home does not want to wake up. It is a pity to wake his mother, and he continues to sleep in the hallway in street clothes. Waking up, it turns out to be wet, like a frog.

In this case, the baby should immediately change clothes, wipe with a damp towel and wipe dry. Do not wait for the evening when he will bathe. Put a cotton hat on your head.

About new things

How beautiful to lay a stroller for a newborn when there is not enough money? Many solve this issue by buying non-new things. We do not recommend doing this: in second-hand stores, things undergo powerful chemical treatment. Contact with them can cause an allergic reaction in an infant. But even if it doesn’t get sprinkled immediately, there’s still no good in breathing adult powder.

The way out may be the following – wholesale purchases online. Negotiate with several mothers who have children of the same age and buy a pack of underwear, bodysuits, and hats via the Internet. Nothing that you will have the same clothes and bed.
