Local Route service is provided in Altoona, Ankeny, Bondurant, Clive, Des Moines, Johnston, Pleasant Hill, Urbandale, West Des Moines and Windsor Heights. Routes operate Monday through Friday, with limited service on evenings, Saturdays and Sundays.

Works like it should

I am an Army veteran and I use DART for many reasons. I use it to get to my medical appointments at the VA hospital, to have visitation with my children in Waukee, to help me get to the American legion where I volunteer, and to make sure I can still get around town to do my own things without relying on friends for rides. I gave it four stars only because it’s real time feature is not always accurate. I am going to assume that it’s difficult to accurately place the bus at the exact point all the time…but there’s been times when it has said that the bus has left one minute ago and I leave the bus stop …then I see it go right past behind me. That’s frustrating. But otherwise I love this app. All I have to do is put in my current location and my destination. Then it tells me exactly in step by step directions when I need to leave my house, what bus stop to be at, what time that bus will arrive, transfers and exact time I will arrive at my destination. It gives me several different options of bus routes I can choose from for my trip. I use this app on my phone more than any other app. It has been a blessing for me because I am not good with directions or being on time. If I had to use a paper route schedule I would be screwed.

I have never had a problem with the bus system and the drivers have always been very good to me.
The only reason I gave four stars instead of five is that sometimes I wish we were still using the transfer process instead of having to do everything on line. I can live with this though.

Update—from clumsy to useless

I updated hoping they fixed the ‘tap three places just to display your ticket’ interface. They didn’t. Instead they made it virtually impossible to find the one piece of info anybody using this app would want: when is the next bus coming? It defaulted from my northbound stop to displaying the southbound (because it is ‘nearer,’ maybe?). I apparently have to memorize which number is the southbound one, or tap one to see which direction it’s going & if it’s the right one. I finally figured out to drag down to update, not tap the info you want to get, as in the previous version. Anyway, it’s a mess. I’ll see if Google maps has realtime info & is usable.

Des Moines (eng. Des Moines [dɪˈmɔɪn], from fr. Des Moines [demwan] – “city of monks” ) is a city in the United States in central Iowa, at the confluence of the Raccoon River into the Des Moines River. The state capital (since 1857), the largest city in the state.

In the first half of the 19th century, the area of ​​what is now Des Moines was inhabited by the Sauk and Meskwok Indian tribes, forced here from the east of the state. In May 1843, Fort Des Moines was founded by a detachment of soldiers under the command of military engineer James Allen at the confluence of the Coon River with the Des Moines River. The main goals of the existence of the fort were both the supervision of aggressive Indian tribes and the suppression of the sale of alcohol to them by white merchants (the sale of alcohol to the Indians was prohibited in order to prevent them from getting drunk). In March 1846, the tribes were moved further west and the fort was abandoned.

In 1851, a severe flood flooded most of the county, causing great damage to the city. In the autumn of the same year, the city charter was adopted at a general vote. In 1857, the Iowa Legislature moved the state capital from Iowa City to Fort Des Moines, while shortening the city’s name to Des Moines . Despite the status of the capital, the city developed rather slowly until 1866, when the railway approached it. Since that time, a period of rapid growth in the population and economy of the city began, the basis for which was agriculture and coal mines in the vicinity of Des Moines. The main coal deposits were worked out by 1908.

In the early 20th century, the city’s Beautiful City Project created many beautiful buildings, fountains, and parks in Des Moines, paved roads, created street lighting, and designed the waterfront.

From the beginning of the 1950s, the city entered a period of economic decline and deindustrialization that lasted until the 1990s. Industrial enterprises were closed, office and public buildings in the city center fell into disrepair, the fountains for which Des Moines was famous during its heyday were destroyed. Vast black ghettos, hotbeds of crime and unsanitary conditions, formed in the central districts of the city. White residents moved to the suburbs (the urban population reached its maximum in 1960). At 19In 93, a severe flood caused serious damage to the city and its environs, leaving about 250,000 people without electricity and sewerage.

In the 1990s, the city is gradually recovering, new jobs appear in the service sector, and various programs are being carried out to improve the central districts. The insurance sector and banking are developing.
