  • “My daughter has been going to Sweet Busy Bees for over a year and we absolutely LOVE this school! All the teachers are loving, caring, patient, kind and AMAZING! The open floor plan is perfect for kids to have fun, learn and explore. My daughter has learned so much at this school and I am so thankful that I found it. When my older children come with me to drop their sister off they want to stay too! Thank you Sweet Busy Bees for taking such excellent care of my daughter!” – Michelle Y.

  • “I adore this school. As a military family, we move around frequently, and this daycare is by far one of the most family oriented atmospheres my kids have had the joy of experiencing. The staff is always very friendly and welcoming, the location is convenient, and the open structure of the daycare itself leaves children able to see and communicate with other aged kids so that new things are learned by visual experience and stimulation. This location offers all you can expect from a daycare, as well as gives your children a comfortable learning and family atmosphere that keeps even the shyest of children wanting to go back. Thank you busy bees!” – Sara T.

  • “My 6 year old daughter has been going to sweet busy bees for a year. The teachers are nice and my daughter has never had an problem going. they drop my daughter off at school as well as pick her up and are always on time and flexible with my daughters schedule. they recently moved to a new location which is spacious and clean. It is very secure and I am confident with leaving my daughter in their care… I’m so grateful!”- Shannon B.

How families with children live in California

“Mel” often talks about life with children abroad. Today, our blogger, mother Yulia Bondarchuk, shares her experience. She tells what a family with children in the USA can do: go to a rock concert or run a rubber duck.

We lived in California for about a year with two children. When we arrived, our eldest daughter was five years old, and our youngest was two years old. We lived in a small town located an hour from Los Angeles. Our girls do not go to kindergartens, I work from home, so it was very important for us to find something to do with ourselves.

Walking

California is warm all year round, the ocean is nearby, so the easiest thing to do with children is to enjoy walking. We all do this when we find ourselves in a good climate, right? Where we lived, there were many parks and playgrounds. They are all gorgeous and completely different. You can go to new places every day, not very far from home. On lazy days, just open the door and go somewhere. You don’t have to get dressed, you don’t even have to go down the stairs: it’s a hundred times easier and more pleasant than in St. Petersburg in winter, for example. And in the spring. And in autumn. I used to think that I didn’t like walking with children, but it turned out that I just didn’t like to dress up, dress them in a hundred layers and trudge somewhere, overcoming winds, snow, puddles and dog tracks.

Libraries

I’m ashamed to say that in Russia we have never gone to children’s libraries, although we love books and we have a lot of them. But in America they started walking. Throughout the year, every day in libraries in the United States there are many different interesting activities and activities for children of all ages. Most of them are the so-called storytime, where they read a couple of books, sing well-known children’s songs, dance to them, and at the end do a simple craft. Even if the girls were sometimes out of age for such activities, it was just perfect for immersing themselves in the environment and learning the language.

Outdoor cartoons

Cartoons are shown in parks on big screens from May to September on Fridays and Saturdays just after sunset. Adult films are also shown, but we only went together, and only to cartoons. Before the start of the show, there was always some interesting action: free face painting, crafts, lotteries, games. Everyone comes with families and large companies, they bring chairs, tables, inflatable sofas, playpens for babies, special blankets that will not get wet when the dew falls with the sunset. Cool family tradition! First you choose when, where and what to go, then you figure out what food to take with you, then you cook everything, collect it. The girls always took different toys, their own specific blankets, carefully chose clothes, figured out what to draw on their faces. Great!

Duck-a-Thon

This is a yellow rubber duck race. The event has been held for 27 years and is of a charitable nature. Thousands of rubber ducks are dumped by an excavator from the pier into the ocean, and they are carried to the shore. Each duck represents the person who paid for it. Not a single duck remains in the ocean: there are several dozen volunteers in wetsuits in the water who monitor this, that is, from the point of view of ecology, everything is okay. The event lasts three days. The program includes concerts and competitions, there is a children’s area with its own schedule. The atmosphere is fabulous! The children were absolutely delighted.

Concerts

We went to different places: on the ocean, in the park, in the mountains. There is live music everywhere and an atmosphere that gives me goosebumps. Even a rock concert with real bearded rockers in leather jackets was a true family event. Everyone was with children, they were high, it was very sincere. The music yelled quite loudly and was too heavy for us, adult non-rockers, but the daughters amazed me with their involvement and happiness from what was happening. At various concerts, they either listened, frozen, then danced, then ran, then simply climbed on the playground.

It seems that you can do the same while living in Russia. I don’t know why we only discovered this in the States! Everything was terribly interesting and inspiring!

Russian school

There are such schools in many countries. This is not a general education institution: they only work on Saturdays during the school year. There are classes for young children, something like “Mom and Baby”, drawing and theater studios for children of all ages, ordinary lessons like music, Russian, mathematics, physics for school-age children, and various thematic circles such as cooking. They hold competitions, olympiads, festivals, New Year’s parties (by analogy with Russian schools).

The eldest daughter went to this school for the whole semester. She really looked forward to every Saturday and scored the maximum number of lessons for her age. I learned to read and count decently there, returned my lost love for singing, satisfied the need to communicate with Russian-speaking children and adults. Interestingly, English also jumped up thanks to bilingual children and the fact that teachers translated a lot for those who do not know Russian well. It was an interesting experience and Eva still wants to go to this school again.

Thank you all for reading!
