A law came into force in Florida prohibiting talking about LGBT people in kindergartens and schools – Gazeta.Ru | News
close
100%
In the state of Florida (USA), a law came into force that provides for a ban on any mention of LGBT people in kindergartens and schools up to the third grade. The innovation caused outrage from the Association of School Teachers. About it reports NBC News.
At the end of spring, recommendations were sent out to teachers telling them to label all books that mention sexual orientation and gender identity.
The Orange County Schoolteachers’ Association has been outraged that officials are banning teachers from wearing rainbow-printed clothing and requiring same-sex spouse photos to be removed from workplaces.
By law, employees of educational and preschool institutions must warn parents if a child begins to think about gender identity. However, teachers believe that disclosure of this confidential information could provoke parental abuse of their students.
As the state emphasizes, the law only applies to kindergartens and elementary schools. According to the government, such a law gives more opportunities for parents to educate their children in the way they see fit.
Lawyers expressed concern that the scope of the law remains unclear and this could lead to lawsuits from parents. However, it is planned that at the end of the summer the Florida Department of Education will introduce amendments and additional standards regarding the new law.
