The main attraction of Washington if you are from Russia

This is far from the most famous, but almost the most powerful landmark of Washington. Here lived Marjorie Post, one of the richest women in America. But for us, it is important that her third husband was the US ambassador to the USSR in the 30s. There, Marjorie appreciated the whole buzz of thrift shops, where she could buy a lot of pre-revolutionary works of art for next to nothing. And after returning from the USSR, she continued to collect a collection of Russian art. And it’s really incredible: 2 Faberge eggs (there are 43 in the world!!), an incredible collection of paintings, icons, goblets, things from Malachite, etc. In addition, we were very lucky – our guide was the Dutchwoman Wilhelmina Irshad, a fan of both Marjorie and Russian history, and she told us very, very cool about everything. nine0497 It should be noted that besides the mansion of the museum itself, the estate has a lot of beautiful things – the Orangery, the Japanese garden, and much, much more. But the collection is power. Hiking is a must and you will be lucky to have Wilhelmina as your guide!

Not bad for a walk with summer

The zoo is quite decent, although there are much more efficient and organized zoos on a larger territory with a large number of animals (in Prague or Stockholm). But in general, a pleasant place to walk with children, I would not advise adults – nothing special. Although there is, for example, an aquarium stylized as a sea grotto, where you can watch the fur seals swim. Very pretty. Serpentarium, lions and tigers – nothing special. Yes, for connoisseurs – there is an aviary with elephants. nine0003

Despite the fact that there are more people than flowers per 2000 trees, it is worth coming here at this time of the year. Especially if you’re lucky with the weather. We were lucky. A wonderful place

The park is wonderful, it is felt that there were grandiose plans when it was created. This can be seen from the photographs of past years, for example, there was a pond with carps. There is a reservoir, but it does not function. There are not enough workers to keep this park in perfect condition. But still I rate this place as excellent. I was especially delighted by the collection of coniferous trees, here it is impeccably kept, it is such a joy for the eyes! nine0003

Park of silence and harmony. Tips for visitors.

Very beautiful, quiet and peaceful place. Lotuses of various colors and varieties amaze with their beauty. Benches are located throughout the territory for the convenience of visitors. The lotus bloom begins at the end of June, there is no point in going there earlier. If you are going to visit the park after heavy rains, I advise you to wear rubber boots or any waterproof shoes – the paths of the park are unpaved and after rains they are easily flooded with water. In boots, it will be convenient for you to make your way between the thickets of lotuses and increase your chances of getting the best photo shots) The park has an area equipped with picnic tables, and since the park itself is located in a rather remote area of Washington (and not the best), it is better to take a snack with you. Children will enjoy bird watching and catching frogs in the park. On the territory there is a small souvenir shop where you can buy them inexpensive books with assignments about nature and all sorts of stickers and transfer tattoos)
