Warren Buffett’s productivity strategy — Work.ua

Work.

ua shares the prioritization technique of Warren Buffett, a regular on the list of the world’s richest people and the most successful investor of the 20th century.

Work.ua does not stop publishing tips to improve productivity. After all, they are the key to the success of many outstanding people. Warren Buffett came up with a great three-step strategy to increase personal productivity. It helps you prioritize and plan your actions. And a well-set goal is already 50% of success.

Step 1: Write down 25 main goals

This task may take some time to think through all your plans and put them on paper. But you can start small and complete this exercise using only short-term goals. Try writing down 25 things you would like to do this week right now.

Step 2: Re-read the list, select and circle the top 5 items

Stop right now and complete the first two steps before moving on to the third. You should end up with 2 lists:

  • list A with five essential items;
  • list B with twenty important but not as high priorities

Read also: Working longer doesn’t mean working more productively.

Step 3: Remove the excess

What do you think we should do with these two lists? Would you like to do the 5 most important goals most of the time and occasionally address the other 20? This is where Buffett disagrees with you:

“The items you didn’t circle are a list of things to avoid at all costs. No matter what happens, from now on, you should not pay any attention to the B list until you have achieved the five most important goals.0040 .

Give up to win

Simplicity and minimalism are the key to success. Letting go of all the things that aren’t critical is a great way to make life easier, develop good habits, and learn to enjoy what you have.

Buffett’s strategy is a brilliant way to set your priorities. List items 6 to 25 are exciting, interesting, and seem important—it’s easy to see why they take so long to complete. But when you compare them with the five main goals, it turns out that the B list is only a distraction. Wasting time on non-essential things is why instead of five fully completed projects, you have 20 unfinished projects.

Remove the excess. Focus. Complete the task or get rid of it. The main enemies of productivity are pleasant things that do not bring tangible results.

It is possible to change jobs during quarantine. The experience of ordinary people

5 little things that Elon Musk and Warren Buffett consider the key to success .

The world’s most legendary leaders, from Elon Musk and Oprah Winfrey to the CEOs of Google and Facebook, view success as a process.

Work.ua publishes five habits that, according to the successful people of this world, you just need to follow daily. It is these things that are the key to the inevitable achievement of success.

1. Read books that are not directly related to your career

Reading is one of the easiest ways to explore life from a different perspective and develop the empathy needed to be an effective leader. And it is important to expand your knowledge beyond your competence.

Here’s the reason why Elon Musk includes science fiction and biography on his reading list:

“I was raised by books. Books, and then my parents,” Musk recalled in an interview with Rolling Stone.

2. Sweat

And it’s not about the sauna or the gym. Developing the habit of doing things outside of your comfort zone is a sign that you are leveling up. Otherwise, you will not achieve great success in life.

If you hate public speaking, be the first to speak at the next team meeting. Although you may get very nervous in the process, just do it anyway. It will get easier.

Mark Zuckerberg has spent years learning Mandarin. And guess what? He did a good job with it. Fear and growth cannot exist in the same space. One must go for the other to flourish.

3. Exercise

In his five-year study of wealthy people, Tom Corley (financial advisor and author of The Habits of Rich People) found that all of them, among other hobbies, have some kind of sports.

“Those who have developed the habit of exercising have a huge competitive advantage over those who don’t,” he wrote on his blog.

These benefits include higher IQ (intelligence quotient), willpower, confidence and up to 20% more energy. A number of self-made billionaires — Oprah Winfrey, Sheryl Sunberg, and Richard Branson — have put exercise on their daily to-do lists. Studies have even shown that a small amount of daily exercise can significantly extend your life.

4. Give

In 2010 Bill and Melinda Gates with Warren Buffett launched the Pledge to Give, a project in which wealthy people and families give more than half of their wealth to the fight against problems such as poverty and poor global health.

But it doesn’t have to be huge sums of money. This could be as simple as offering to help overworked colleagues or the elderly with their grocery bags. If you are too busy to give, you are too busy to succeed.

5. Go for a walk to think

Everyone knows that we all spend too much time in the office and online. But there is one thing that is very easy to do, and it will bring great benefits: go outside, take a walk and just think.

A study by the American Psychological Association found that outdoor exercise can increase creativity and improve problem-solving skills.

Mark Zuckerberg, Richard Branson and the CEOs of giants like Google and LinkedIn also like to have their meetings on walks because it helps them come up with new solutions.

“I think it’s a much faster way to get started, make a decision, and close a deal,” Branson wrote on his blog. “It’s also a great way to move around a bit and focus during a busy day.”

How to create and implement daily habits

A few simple things to help you build habits.

  • Focus on one (and only one) change. While the habit has not yet been fixed, it is very vulnerable. If you take on everything at once, you can do nothing. If you do a lot at once, then little will be done correctly and with high quality. Quantity and quality are interrelated concepts.
  • Start small. Everyone has heard about it, but few adhere to it. You may want to start right away with more, but there are two reasons not to do this. First, you can “fill up” everything by taking on too much.
