Treatment in North America – Yale New Haven Hospital, Connecticut, USA

Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH) is one of the best American hospitals located in New Haven, Connecticut.

The hospital is owned by Yale New Haven Health System, Inc.

Yale New Haven Hospital includes the 168-bed Smilow Cancer Hospital, the 76-bed Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital, and the 201-bed Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital. New Haven Children’s Hospital).

This is one of the largest hospitals in New England and the main teaching hospital for the Yale School of Medicine and the Yale School of Nursing.

A Brief History of the American Hospital

The history of Yale New Haven Hospital dates back to 1826, when the Society of General Hospitals was founded in Connecticut and the fourth charitable hospital in America.

At that time, the small hospital rented a modest temporary building and raised $5,000 to buy its own land and build its first building of its own.

The new 13-bed hospital building opened in 1833 on a 7.5-acre site bordering Cedar Street and Congress Avenue.

It was called the State Hospital.

The hospital was designed by a renowned New Haven architect and cost $13,000 to build, a colossal sum for the time.

In 1862 it was turned into a military hospital for the soldiers of the North, who opposed the Confederates during the bloody war.

It has been renamed Knight United States Army General Hospital, in honor of Jonathan Knight. In 1865 the hospital was again returned to the community.

Since 1873, it has been home to the Connecticut Training School, the third ever nursing school in America. In 1884, the hospital received a new, familiar name – the New Haven Hospital.

Yale School of Medicine and New Haven Hospital formally began their relationship at 1913.

The emerging system of American medical education in those years included the creation of close alliances between educational institutions and large hospitals – important elements in the training of future doctors.

This is how the Yale-New Haven Medical Center was created. By the way, already in 1914 this center became known for having acquired one of the first fleets of ambulances.

In 1945 the hospital was merged with Grace Hospital. Interesting fact: 6 July 1946 years in this hospital was born the future 43rd US President George W. Bush.

In 1965, another change took place in the hospital – she signed a new agreement with the Yale School of Medicine, and has forever secured the name Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Later, the Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital was born, and in 2000, after the acquisition of the Yale Psychiatric Institute, the Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital opened its doors.

October 2009Yale New Haven Hospital has opened the 14-story Smiley Cancer Hospital, the only National Cancer Institute-recognized comprehensive cancer center in southern New England. It is named after Joel Smiley, a Yale alumnus, president of Playtex Products, who made an incredibly generous donation to build the cancer center.

Today Yale New Haven Hospital is one of the largest and most modern medical centers in Connecticut.

Yale New Haven Hospital Achievement, USA

Yale New Haven Hospital is a Magnet hospital and accredited by the JCI Joint Commission.

This is a level 1 trauma center and one of the best ambulance parks in the region.
