2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR:

Parents may use the online registration portal opened on July 1, 2022. The link is posted below based on NEW FAMILIES/RETURNING FAMILIES. Parents may also e-mail or call to request an application to be mailed/e-mailed. A downloadable form is available below.

The Extended Day Care program is a tuition-based before and after school program for students attending Mount Laurel School District in grades K through 6. The program is offered in all 5 of our K-4 schools, as well as at Hartford School for 5th and 6th graders. Hartford students attend AM EDC at Larchmont School and are bussed to Hartford. Hartford PM students attend EDC at Hartford School. Morning sessions begin at 7 a.m. and continue until the start of the school day. Afternoon sessions begin immediately following the end of the school day until 6 p.m.”

The Extended Day Care program is activity-based including outside play and/or gym time, games, movies, and arts and crafts. Most sites host homework time. An after-school snack must be provided by the parent/guardian.

TUITION SCHEDULE: Changes in schedules received before noon the previous Friday will result in no additional charge. Changes after noon will result in a $10.00 late fee.

LATE FEES: Due dates must be adhered to. Late payments will be subject to a $10 late fee. Tuition is paid one week before care and must be scheduled. We encourage all families to use the online system to schedule.

LATE PICKUP POLICY: If your child is not picked up by 6 p.m., a charge of $20 will be charged every 15 minutes after 6 p.m. If this happens more than three times, your child will be removed from the program.

CREDITS: Credits or refunds will be issued for emergency school closings, snow days, and illness resulting in absence from school for three or more consecutive days.

RETURNED CHECK FEE: $20 for all returned checks

REGISTRATION: If requesting the form to be mailed, please leave a message stating your name, address, and phone number. If you wish the form e-mailed to you, please e-mail Suzy Haftman, Yvette Lopez, or Chris Sherf, and the form will be sent to you in a PDF file. (E-MAILS LISTED BELOW). The form also is available for download below.

SCHEDULE & PAYMENTS (Registrants only): To schedule daycare using the online system, go to: https://family.daycareworks.com/login.jsp. The deadline to schedule online is every Friday at noon. Payments must accompany all schedules. If you do not have online access, please email us to schedule via email or by phone. We must have your schedule by Friday before the week of care.

History

Port Deposit

Tome School for Boys, Md. in Cecil County, on the east bank of the Susquehanna River, Jacob Thome (1810-1898) was founded as a non-sectarian preparatory school for boys. It opened to boarders and received its first students in 1894 year. It was part of a system of schools known collectively as the Jacob Thome Institute, which began with Kindergarten and extended through High School. ^[2] Thome School, located in the northeastern part of the state, became an instant hit, attracting almost all students from Port Deposit and many other countries. Maryland, Pennsylvania and neighboring states. ^[3]

Thome left the school after his death in 1898 year. ^[4] Under the direction of his widow, Evelyn N. Thome, the Board of Trustees hired Scottish immigrant James Cameron Mackenzie (1852-1931) to run the school. Mackenzie, one of the most important high school teachers of the late 19th century, suggested that donations be used to set up a separate boarding school for boys. Two hundred acres on a bluff above the stone city of granite buildings and the sweeping picturesque Susquehanna River were purchased for this purpose. Mackenzie, in turn, consulted with Robert Swain Peabody (1845-1917), prominent Boston architects Peabody & Stearns, regarding the design of the new Jacob Thom Institute. ^[3]

After a design competition held in 1900 under Peabody, the Board of Trustees selected designs from partner architects. William Boring (1859-1937), and Edward Lippincott Tilton (1861-1933), co-designers of the US immigration station at Ellis Island in New York Harbor and other important structures in the then popular Beaux-Arts architectural style. ^[3] Over the next five years, stone buildings were built on the bluffs above the Port mine, using the famous granite from the local Port mine. Susquehanna River. The tree-lined campus streets were designed by a nationally renowned landscape architect. Frederick Law Olmsted (1822-1903), who also designed New York’s Central Park and converged on the steps of Memorial Hall. ^[4] Olmsted chose the well-known landscape architect Charles Wellford Leavitt (1871–1928) for decorating school gardens. ^[3] ^[5] By 1902, the school had over a dozen buildings and $2 million in donations ($59,100,000 today. ^[6]). Thirteen of these buildings survive: Memorial Hall, three dormitories (Jackson, Madison, and Harrison), the Chesapeake Inn Dormitory and Dining Hall, the Principal’s Residence, Monroe Grammar School, and six master cottages. ^[7] Erica L. Casenbury, author of US Naval Training Center, Bainbridge , wrote that Memorial Hall was the “centerpiece” of the school. ^[8]

In the early 1900s, Tome played football annually against Baltimore City College, the third oldest public high school in America, founded in 1839, with an interscholastic football team program dating back to the 1880s, and several other schools and colleges in her schedule. ^[9] The rivalry was pretty even. The City colleagues beat Tome 5-0 in 1903 and 11-8 in 1904, but Tome won 32-0 in 1912 and 37-0 in 1915. Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, a public math/science/engineering high school founded in 1883 that was also a major rival of the city’s college. These were several other public high schools, in addition to several other private or religious schools, institutes and academies in the region, offering meritorious sports and academic competition.

In 1906 Principal Abram W. Harris, along with Phi Beta Kappa faculty members of the Thome School, organized the Alpha Delta Tau fraternity, which later became the Honors Society.

The school has enjoyed a prestigious reputation for a number of years. Among his students was R. J. Reynolds, Jr. (son of R. J. Reynolds), as well as children of the prominent financial/business Mellon and Carnegie families. ^[4]

School property and buildings were listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district in 1984. ^[1]

USNTC Bainbridge

Jacob Institute after several decades of prosperity Thomas fell into a difficult financial situation during his reign. Great Depression 1930s and closed in 1941. The following year, just after the US entered World War II, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt approved the acquisition by condemnation of 90,037 [10] 90,038 property and land from 70 nearby farms for use by the US Navy as a training center. Institute buildings have been renovated for use by the Naval Academy Preparatory School to prepare future midshipmen for the US Naval Academy further south in Annapolis, Maryland. ^[3] USNTC Bainbridge was activated on October 1, 1942 and operated throughout World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, and the Cold War era. It was closed as a military facility on March 31, 1976. In its 34 years of operation, USNTC Bainbridge (named after the early 19th century naval hero William Bainbridge) has produced over 500,000 recruits. ^[4]

For more than a decade, from 1979 to 1991, the Susquehanna Job Corps Center occupied the campus. In 2000, the site was transferred to the State of Maryland, which subsequently transferred it to the Bainbridge Development Corporation. ^[3]

In the meantime, Tomé’s school has returned to its original location on Main Street in the Depository Port. In 1971, the Tome School moved to a new 100-acre campus in Northeast, Maryland.

Memorial Hall, fire station.

On September 21, 2014, a fire damaged the Memorial Hall of the old campus, destroying its clock tower. ^[11] In 2018, a local newspaper wrote about the old campus that Van Buren, Madison, and Monroe Halls remained, while the Principal’s house was “heavily destroyed but still standing” and Jackson Hall “like Memorial Hall is a burned-out mass” . ^[11]

On May 6, 2020, a fire broke out at the former Tome School, causing one of the buildings, a wood and stone home building, to completely burn to the ground. ^[12]

Academics

In co-education, the school recruits students from kindergarten through the twelfth grade. The curriculum provides a broad liberal arts education in an environment that emphasizes academic excellence, high standards of personal conduct and full participation in school life. The student body is divided into three schools:

Lower School (K-4). Students begin learning French and Spanish in first grade.
Secondary school (5-8). Students are required to take Latin study in the seventh grade through the eighth grade.
Senior school (9-12). Students concentrate on a traditional college prep academic program.

The current principal of the school is Kristin Szymanski.

Southampton Township, New Jersey

Southampton Township is a township in Burlington County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the township had a population of 10,464. ^[8] ^[9] ^[10] reflecting an increase of 76 (+ 0.7%) from 10,388 counted in the 2000 Census, which in turn increased by 186 (+ 1 .8%) from 10,202 recorded in the 1990 Census. ^[18]

What is now Southampton was originally incorporated as Coaxen Township by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 10, 1845, from parts of Northampton Township (now known as Mount Holly Township). The name lasted for about three weeks when it was renamed Southampton Township on 1 April 1845. As the population grew, parts of the township were taken to form Pemberton Township (March 10, 1846), Shamong Township (19February 1852), Lumberton Township (March 14, 1860), Woodland Township (March 7, 1866), and Tabernacle Township (March 22, 1901). ^[19]

According to the US Census Bureau, the township had a total area of 44.44 square miles (115.10 km ² ), including 43.96 square miles (113.85 km ²) of land and 0.48 square miles (1.25 km ²) of water (1.08%). ^[1] ^[2] The community is located in the New Jersey Pine Barrens. ^[20]

Leisuretowne (2010 Census population 3582) unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) is located in the Southampton Township area. ^[21] ^[22] Vincenttown is an unincorporated area and ZIP code 08088 within part of the borough, while other unincorporated communities, localities and place names located partly or wholly within the borough include Beaverville, Buddtown, Burrs Mill, Chairville, Crescent, Ewansville, Ewingville, Hampton Lakes, Medford Park, Oakshade, Red Lion, Retreat and Sandtown. ^[23]

The township borders the Burlington County municipalities of Eastampton Township, Lumberton Township, Medford Township, Pemberton Township, Tabernacle Township, and Woodland Township. ^[24] ^[25] ^[26]

2010 Census

The 2010 U. S. Census counts 10,464 people, 4,746 households, and 3,042 families in the township. The population density was 239.6 inhabitants per square mile (92.5 / km ²). There were 5,024 housing units at an average density of 115.1 per square mile (44.4/km² ). The racial makeup was 94.50% (9888) White, 2.21% (231) Black or African American, 0.11% (12) Native American, 1.33% (139) Asian, 0.01% (1) Pacific Islander, 0.49% ( 51) from other races and 1.36% (142) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.15% (225) of the population. ^[8]

Of 4,746 households, 16.7% had children under the age of 18; 52.6% were married couples living together; In 7.8% of families, women lived without husbands, and in 35.9%% had no family. 32.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 22.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.20 and the average family size is 2.77. ^[8]

Census Bureau 2006-2010 The American Community Survey showed that (in 2010 inflation-adjusted dollars) the median household income was $51,713 (with error of +/- $3,072) and the median family income was $73,598 (+/- $11,729) . Men had a median income of $57,500 (+/- $8,015) compared to $39,472 (+/- $4,560) for women. The per capita income for the district was 34 49$3 (+/- $1869). About 3.1% of families and 5.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.1% under the age of 18 and 8.4% of those aged 65 or over. ^[42]

2000 Census

As of 2000 U.S. Census ^[15] there were 10,388 people, 4,574 households, and 3,046 families residing in the township. The population density was 235.9 people per square mile (91.1 / km ²). There were 4,751 housing units at an average density of 107.9per square mile (41.7 / km ²). The racial composition of the population: 97.09%. White, 1.20% African American, 0.28% Native American, 0.63% Asian, 0.30% from other races, and 0.50% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.29% of the population. ^[40] ^[41]

There were 4,574 households out of which 19.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.2% were married couples living together, 6.8% were females, living without husbands, and 33.4% do not have a family. 29.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 21.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.26, and the average family size is 2.79. ^[40]

The population of the village was spread out: 17.8% under the age of 18, 4.8% from 18 to 24, 21. 2% from 25 to 44, 24.5% from 45 to 64 years and 31.7% aged 65 and over. . The average age was 50 years. For every 100 women, there were 87.8 men. For every 100 women aged 18 and over, there were 85.2 men. ^[40]

The median income for a household in the township was $44,419, and the median income for a family was $57,419. Men had a median income of $45,785 compared to $30,134 for women. The per capita income for the township was $26,977. About 2.6% of families and 3.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.8% of those under the age of 18 and 2.5% of those aged 65 and over. ^[40]

The Township of Southampton is administered by the Township form of government in New Jersey, one of 141 municipalities (out of 565) in the state that use this form of government, the second most common form of government in the state. ^[43] The Township Committee consists of five members who are directly elected by the voters. at large in party elections for a three-year term of office on a staggered basis, with one or two seats to be elected each year in the November general election with a three-year cycle. ^[6] ^[44] At the annual reorganization meeting, the borough committee selects one of its members to serve as mayor during the year.

As of 2020, the members of the City of Southampton committee are Mayor Michael S. Mikulsky II (r Committee term ends 31 December 2022; mayor term ends 2020), Deputy Mayor William J. New York Central Park | Landscaping of gardens and parks

The New York City Commission, which discussed the building plan in 1811, did not leave a single hectare of city land for green spaces. Meanwhile, the population increased rapidly, and the townspeople had practically nowhere to rest from the hectic everyday life.

In 1844, landscape architect Andrew Downing and publisher of one of the then popular newspapers, William Bryant, began a propaganda campaign to build the first public city park in New York. In 1853, under public pressure, the city legislature allocated for this purpose a narrow strip of land 4 km long, 800 meters wide and with a total area of about 340 hectares, located between 8 and 5 avenues, 59th and 110th street.

Walking today along the paths of the park, winding past groves, lawns, lakes and rocks, it is difficult to imagine what this area looked like in the middle of the 19th century. And there were marshy swamps, stunted bushes, boulders and fragments of rocks. The designers must have had a remarkable imagination, since they could imagine what the whole territory would look like in 150 years. It can only be said with certainty that the writer Frederick Law Olmsted and the English architect Culver Waugh, who took up the arrangement of the park in 1857, succeeded.

Authoritative and influential people were also involved in the construction of the park. Architects Mont Oborne and Green-Wood created a model of idyllic, naturalistic landscapes with “separate circulation systems” for pedestrians, horseback and recreational vehicles. Roads for the movement of vehicles were lowered below the ground and hidden from the eyes of park visitors so that nothing would prevent them from admiring the beauties of the surrounding landscapes. Before construction, about 1.5 thousand people living here, mostly poor emigrants, were resettled from the territory of the future park.

For almost fifteen years, the architects have brought their ideas to life. Local land proved unsuitable for many of the original plan’s trees, shrubs, and other plants—10 million cartloads of material, including earth and stone, were dug up and removed from the site, and more than 14,000 cubic meters were brought in from New Jersey. m of fertile land. By the end of construction in 1873, over 4 million trees, shrubs and other plants representing approximately 1,500 species had been planted here.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the state of the park fell into decay – no one was engaged in its improvement and maintenance, it was littered, the dead plants were not removed. In 1934, the new mayor of New York, Fiorello LaGuardia, consolidated the 5 departments involved in the park, and put Robert Moses in charge of putting the park in order. A decision was made to involve (on a voluntary basis) people for restoration work and a master plan was published for the further development of the park, called “Reconstruction of Central Park for the 80s and beyond.” It was envisaged to actively restore the architectural heritage – both the landscape and the environment, as well as buildings, sculptures and architectural forms that have suffered over the past 20 years. It was planned to protect the park and ensure security, especially at night.
