Kindergartens in the USA / Child Care – Immigrant Today

Hello everyone! With you Shushenika, author of the blog «USAdvice. ru. all about the USA. And I think today’s video will not be very long, because I want to talk about kindergartens and nurseries in the USA.

It so happened that recently several people asked me the same question about how things are in the US with kindergartens, how to send a child to kindergarten, how much it costs, etc. So I will talk about it. I don’t think it will take long.

So, kindergartens, unlike schools, are paid here. There are no public kindergartens here, they are all private, and, on average, they cost about $1,000 a month. Just like we have, there is a nursery for very young children, and there is a kindergarten for older children. There is Day Care here – this is for small children from 6 weeks to 2-3 years. And there is Preschool – this is for children from 3 to 5. At the age of 5, the child already goes to Kindergarten – this is a preparatory class for school. At the age of 6 he goes to the first grade. This Kindergarten, it is at the school, at the elementary school. That is, a child at the age of 5, as it were, goes to school, it is already free. Until the age of five, children here either sit at home with their mothers, or with grandmothers, or with nannies, or they are determined in Day Care or Preschool.

Like I said, Day Care and Preschool cost $1,000 on average. There are more expensive ones, of course. Cheaper I have not seen, but maybe if you look, you can find. So, this price is calculated if the child walks full day 5 days a week. There are different options. For example, a child may walk for half a day, or walk 3 days a week instead of 5, and so on. Then the prices are different. That is, it will all depend on how often you want to take your child to kindergarten. That is, maybe it’s cheaper if you drive not for 5 days, not a full day, but for three half-days, for example, it will be cheaper.

There are also options, I saw in some kindergartens, that you can just bring a child, leave for a few hours, then pick it up. It will cost somewhere around $12 an hour, which, in principle, at least by Californian standards, is normal. Because here the minimum wage in San Jose is $10 an hour. That is, if we assume that you would hire a nanny for a child, but it’s not some fifteen-year-old girl who just started working as a babysitter, but someone more or less experienced, then most likely you would pay much more hour than $12. Therefore, this is, in principle, a good option for those who just need to leave their child somewhere for a few hours and go somewhere on business. I mean, there is another option.

So what are the varieties of these Day Care and Preschool? Day Care and Preschool – they are home, like a base. That is, someone allocates a room or several rooms at home, builds a site in their backyard, and it’s like a small business that is right at home. And this is the mistress of the house, often it’s like a family business, or it’s two sisters, or a mother and daughter, or a husband and wife, they, in general, manage it all, and sit with the children.

Americans are very fond of these home base places, because, firstly, they are small, there are few children there. Most often, they cook their own food for the children there. Often it is organic food. That is, many Americans love this kind of Day Care and Preschool plan.

There are also Preschools, which refer to a private school, for example, that is, it is part of the school. There are separate Preschools, that is, as a separate school. There are different types too. These Preschools have different programs. Day Care probably doesn’t have much, because the children are still small, they don’t really learn anything there. But there are specialized Preschools, for example, pelingual, where they speak two languages with children. Or with some kind of bias – technical, or art, or something else. With some programs, such as Montessori Preschool. That is, there are also with a different bias, there are ordinary ones.

They asked me about the situation with Russian kindergartens. Apparently, everything will depend on the place where you live, how many Russians there are. But in places where there are a lot of them, I mean Russians – Russian speakers, there will be Russian kindergartens. I know that even in San Jose there are definitely 3-4 Russian kindergartens. Not to mention Mountain View, Sunnyvale, where, in my opinion, more Russians live than here. As it seems to me, at least.

Hire an immigration attorney for advice on moving to the US. We also recommend that you consider immigrating to Canada as it is a great alternative to America.
