Sebezh
The famous native of the city Zinovy Gerdt in his essay “Childhood. Sebezh” recalled: “There was a wonderful Orthodox church in Sebezh, on a hill. He was then blown up. Not the Germans.”
The tallest architectural structure in the modern city is the bell tower, preserved from the main cathedral church – the Nativity of Christ.
The Orthodox five-domed cathedral was built in the middle of the 19th century, next to it there was a bell tower in three tiers under a low tent. The main volume is an eight-pillar quadrangle with a vestibule.
The Cathedral stood on the main street of the city, which was named after Peter the Great before being renamed Proletarskaya Street, and is depicted in many photographs and postcards of the pre-revolutionary period.

August 19 – Transfiguration of the Lord
Spaso-Preobrazhensky Mirozhsky Monastery is an outstanding monument of the Orthodox medieval culture of Pskov and one of the symbols of the ancient and modern city. The construction of monasteries in Rus’ has always had a significant basis for their erection precisely on this site. In this case, the monastery was supposed to serve as a fortress and, at the same time, aspired to become the center of the monastic life of the ancient city, professing Christianity. For 8 centuries, it was for the townspeople not only a haven for the afflicted, but also a model of piety.

Mardarius
In the dense forests of the Strugo-Krasnensky district, not far from the village of Kocheritsy, there is a holy place, which has been revered by the people for almost three centuries – the hermitage place of Hieromonk Mardariy. Pilgrims from the Pskov land and from the most distant places come to bow to the grave of a monk, to pray in the chapel, to plunge into the spring that relieves diseases.
It is said that at the beginning of the 18th century, the young monk of the Cheremenets John the Theologian Monastery of the St. Petersburg diocese, Mardariy, in the world Matthias, was sent to serve in the famous Feofilov Hermitage (modern Strugo-Krasnensky district) for “strict life and piety”. Mardarius was diligent and humble; having learned to read and write, he willingly helped other youths. Not only local residents, but also eminent people from nearby cities came to him to receive guidance and blessings. Sometimes guests offered him sweet food and drinks, but he rarely accepted them, only yielding to the intensified requests of the laity and not wanting to offend them. The monk said that his destiny was prayer, fasting and humility of the flesh.

The slab preserved in the interior dates the first construction of the church to 1339year, and points to numerous later restructuring. Its appearance has changed many times, but the cultural value of the monument has only increased – in it you can see the reflection of the styles and construction skills of all past eras.

July 18 and October 8 – days of memory of Sergius Abbot of Radonezh (May 3, 1314 or May 1322 – September 25 (October 8), 1392), miracle worker of all Russia.
On October 7, 2015, the first service was held in the restored Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh from Zaluzhye, which stood for many decades under a conservation temporary roof in a dilapidated state.
Sergievsky from Zaluzhye is considered the smallest one-domed, three-apse church in Pskov. Its construction is associated with the transfer of the Sergius Monastery, which was previously located outside the city wall, inside the walls of the Round City. Possible invasions of enemy troops during the long Livonian War forced the monks to look for a new place under the protection of the fortress walls. In ancient times, this place, as the Pskov local historian Okulich-Kazarin writes, was a vast swamp, which the Pskovians called “puddle”, it was from this word that the church received an addition to the name of Sergius from Zaluzhya. The same natural object, apparently, gave its name to the gate in the fortress wall, located at the intersection of the wall with Sergievskaya Street – the Luzhitsky Gate.

May 6 – the day of St. George the Victorious, in the folk calendar Yegoriy Veshny.
December 9 – in the folk calendar St. George’s day, or Yegory (George) winter, Yuri cold.
Church of the Holy Great Martyr George the Victorious at St. Georgievskaya, 1 is located on the embankment of the Velikaya River. The location of the temple at different times was indicated in different ways: at the wall of the Roundabout city, on Polonishche, at the corner of Gubernatorskaya and Georgievskaya streets, at the Georgievsky gates. The date of construction of the stone church is called 1494 years and believe that it was less than others subjected to architectural restructuring.
In the 15th century, there was a crossing and vozvoz at this place by the river – a passage from the river, a place for unloading goods and carrying out customs procedures for foreign merchants. Here, under the protection of the wall next to the fortress tower at the entrance gate, a church appeared.

Tatyana Stepanova, curator of the Al. Altaeva Museum, in the village of Log, Plyussky district, knows very well what impression the estate makes on visitors. We are starting … an excursion, acquaintance with the estate and its inhabitants.
