KD Academy Early Learning Center, formerly known as “The Kiddie Depot” opened its doors August 2005 as a home-based childcare facility, serving children from 6 weeks to 12 years of age. August 2012, The Kiddie Depot scaled the business model into a 3000 square feet commercial facility and within the 3rd quarter of the same year was operating at maximum capacity. Shortly thereafter, the business saw new opportunities as the market demanded extended hours of service. Understanding the glaring need for quality service, we decided to meet the need and begin to provide service around the clock for working parents regardless of the work schedule. Today we pride ourselves on being Kansas City’s 24hr/7day fully functioning childcare facility.
As a service, KD Academy has consistently offered families a unique home away from home experience. Our endeavor for children is strongly based on educational achievement and the development of well-rounded social skills.
Our state-of-the-art facility is not only child-friendly, safe, and loving but also fun and full of constant adventure. Our philosophy of teaching children is to encourage them to become “World Wise” by introducing them to science, math, literacy, physical education, through a hands-on play-based framework for learning. Our program has remained unique because we are constantly being inspired by the children and the needs of the community. Our core values have been and continue to be Love, Education, and Nutrition.
At KD Academy, we want your child and your family to look into the window of there imagination and be Inspired. Our desire is for your child to build social skills, connections and relationships that will write their story. Their stories will forever remain a part of our story and our purpose, with each individual being important and bringing strength to the group because he or she collectively fulfills a part of the overall landscape and the fabric of our society.
Diversity and Inclusion is essential to the sustainability of our business model along with the landscape of our community. As our community transforms thru economic and social development it is critically important that the services we provide, the staff we employ, and the parents we serve are reflective of the fabric of our city.
Diversity incorporates all the elements that make individuals perform at peak levels. Studies show the greater the diversity in the workforce the greater the production, profitability, and value creation. With the evolving landscape of our city, we as the owners and staff welcome people of all ethnicities, social and economic backgrounds. Diversity Equity and Inclusion will bring forth the best of us all!
OUR VERY IMPORTANT PEOPLE
Early childhood education and development is critically important in the initial stages of a child’s life. At KD Academy, our teachers and staff help facilitate this period of learning, and that is what separates us from traditional childcare facilities.
At KD Academy, we build on the momentum of your toddler’s learning and natural curiosity to help them learn at their own pace. We also begin the process of table time, introducing the toddlers to a structured environment. This in turn assists the transition for the learning environment when advancing to the 2-year-old classroom.
While your 2-year-old is at our Academy, he/she will experience the next level of a structured learning environment. These children will become engaged with understanding learning principles. This is also the class where children will be introduced to potty training.
At KD Academy, we nurture your 3-year-old’s creativity and put your 3-year-old’s natural sense of wonder to work, teaching them about reading, math, people, and our environment through hands-on activities.
Our program enables learning experiences where your 4-year-old’s creativity can thrive in an environment that encourages curiosity, exploration, self-identity, and forming respectful relationships.
Our program enables learning experiences where your 5-year-old’s creativity can thrive in an environment that encourages curiosity, exploration, self-identity, and forming respectful relationships.
MYRON & PENNY MCCANT
About Our Owners
Myron and Penny McCant are the proud owners of KD Academy Early Learning Center, LLC located in the urban core of Kansas City, MO. This husband and wife team have expanded into the commercial market of childcare from a home-based facility in August 2012. The owners have 27 combined years of experience and demonstrated a successful presence in the childcare industry and a robust contribution to the local ecosystem. Philosophically, they believe the value of a relationship with parents, is the root of long term relationships in the childcare industry. We have an uncompromising love for all children, understanding they are the pillars of our future.
24 HOUR CHILD CARE
KD Academy prides itself on being recognized as Kansas City’s complete, 24hr/7day service for childcare. We are here for parents regardless of their work schedule demands. In addition, we have built collaborative partnerships with local employers so that they may offer childcare as a part of their hiring package for the second shift and overnight employees
BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL
Because of our 24hr services, this allows for an extensive before and after school program. This service is catered to students 6-12yrs of age. Before Care: This program allows parents to leave the older siblings at our facility in the mornings where we provide breakfast before transportation arrives to take them to their school. After Care: Arriving back to the center following school, the students are fed a full meal and are engaged with our staff to complete homework or assist as teacher aids with the students of the facility.
GREAT STAFF
Our business began in August 2012 and we are proud to announce we still employee our original 5 employees, therefore our turnover rate is minimal. Today we have a combined total of 23 and look to hire more employees soon.
NUTRITIOUS MEALS
We understand the importance of a well-balanced meal within our facility. Our children are fed well, its often referred to as “Thanksgiving four times per week,” with Friday being our fun day consisting of chicken strips, pizza and alike. No fried foods are prepared here!

Nothing new, cinema and life are communicating vessels. Cinema draws plots and characters from life, people want to be like movie heroes. Unfortunately, in our time, positive types are not very in demand.

There are more clones of Dracula, Joker, Chucky, Freddy Krueger, Hannibal, Blade and Antichrist. Almost everyone is wearing masks. How to stage a “mise-en-scene” from your favorite “horror movie” in real life, you don’t have to strain, everything is painted in the picture “according to notes.” The “scenarios” of most high-profile mass crimes of our century are borrowed from the cinema.
The latest in the psychological thriller genre is James Demonaco’s “The Purge”. In the Russian box office – “Judgment Night” (“Purge”). The second name seems to be more accurate. A few words about the plot. New Founding Fathers are coming to power in the USA. In order to rid society of the “ballast”, they issue a law according to which the Great Purge is carried out once a year.
On the announced day at exactly 12 o’clock – from evening until the next morning – all the power structures of the state and medical institutions do not work, the country cleanses itself, releases steam from the accumulated negativity. You can torture and kill anyone with impunity. For any reason. Personal animosity, class, national, racial, religious, it doesn’t matter.
In fact, the lumpen and the lower strata of society fall under disassembly first of all, the rich buy in advance for themselves means of protection from the “people’s avengers”. Annual bloodletting in the night of “long knives” has a beneficial effect on the well-being of the country. The state needs fewer police officers, prisons, shelters, mental hospitals, nursing homes, cities are being cleared of alcoholics, drug addicts and the homeless.
The country has unprecedented labor productivity, practically no unemployment, and almost zero crime. In general, the old slogan “anarchy is the mother of order” in the new clothes of Hollywood – The Purge – has become for gangs and hotheads a kind of command “face!”, No. 1 readiness to start extremist actions. Naturally, law enforcement agencies and state security services are aware of the innovation.
How it happened in Kentucky’s largest city, Louisville. Recently, the famous poster for the movie The Purge appeared on Twitter, but in a local interpretation. “Louisville’s The Purge. 8 p.m. – 6.30 a.m. Friday, August 15th, 2014”. Simply put, on the night from Friday to Saturday, a “general cleansing” of a million-strong city was announced.
In a matter of hours, the “ad” became a hit on Twitter and spread to other social networks. City Hall, police, and the local FBI have received more than 80,000 calls and emails from anxious residents of Louisville and adjoining southern Indiana. In fact, a single agglomeration on both sides of the Ohio River.
Law enforcement agencies in Louisville and southern Indiana were faced with a dilemma – underdoing or overdoing – should they treat the announced “purge” as a hoax or seriously? Caution won. What the hell is not joking online?
The city did not declare a state of emergency, but in crowded places – parks, concert venues and stadiums – police squads and night patrols were strengthened. Concerts and competitions have not been canceled, except for one meeting of school football teams. Fortunately, the threat turned out to be false, which did not exclude the active search for the cause of the alarm by the police and the FBI.
On the second day he was found. A 16-year-old high school student in the police snot and tears. There were no malicious intentions, except for the desire to show off on Twitter. Moreover, the teenager swore his love for his native city and swore he would never do anything like that again.
The undergrowth was released from the police in peace and his name was not even made public. Apart from a stupid prank, he did nothing illegal. True, they informed the parents and the school about the misconduct. So far, the only punishment for the teenager is that he was immediately expelled from the school football team.
This case could not have been written about in the newspaper, if not for its consequences. Bad business is easy. The Kentucky “humorist” immediately found imitators in all corners of the country. The Network has already announced “purges” in Miami and Jacksonville (Florida), Bay Area (California), Detroit, Cleveland and Kansas City. There is no doubt that this is only the beginning of the doomsday epidemic.
God forbid that they all end up as pranks, and not real “purges” in the style of Missouri Ferguson. With pogroms, robberies, shooting, anarchy. The Purge in action. Cinema and life go hand in hand.
