– What? Kendrick burst into the huge bedroom overlooking the pool, flew to the chest of drawers, began to open drawers in a hurry, snatching socks, underwear, a shirt from them.

Sabri’s wife Kashi entered the room.
– Sorry! she exclaimed, and turned away.
– No time for ceremonies. Kashi, the congressman shouted. How did you manage the clothes?
“Perhaps you would have taken other things, dear Evan, but these will help you to hide,” the pretty woman replied with a worried look. – I thought: wherever you are, you can call us, and I will bring you everything you need. Many newspapermen know my husband, but no one knows me. I always keep a low profile.
“Your choice, not mine,” Kendrick said as he put on his jacket and went back to the chest of drawers for his wallet, purse, and lighter. We may close this place. Kashi, and we’ll go back to Colorado.
There you can become the official mistress of my house.
“Oh, that’s reckless, dear Evan,” Mrs. Hassan chuckled. – This is not appropriate.
— Professor Sabri, when will you teach her? Kendrick ran a comb through his hair.
– When will she listen to me. But our women have advantages that we men have no idea about.
– Well, let’s go!
— Keys in the car, dear Evan…
— Thank you, Kashi, Kendrick said as he left the room and walked down the stairs with Sabri. “Tell me,” he continued as the two men crossed the gallery on their way to the large garage that held his Mercedes convertible and Hassan’s Cimarron Cadillac. How much do they know?

“Please, Evan,” the professor interrupted. – How many years have I known you? You feel uncomfortable praising yourself, even indirectly.
– Praise, damn it! Kendrick opened the garage door. “Fuck me in this place!” I was going to be thrown into fish feed in Qatar with a bleeding pig tied to my back! I was already dead! Not me, but others saved my super-successful ass.

– That’s bullshit! I just asked a few questions, but not too many; and besides, I don’t think Mason and I ever said anything to each other other than “hello.” That’s dog shit!
— More across the country…
The screech of brakes from a car that came to a stop in front of the house, then another silence from the closed garage.
– Merciful God! Evan whispered. – I’ve been cornered!
“Not yet,” said Dr. Hassan. Kashi knows what to send. She will receive the first visitors. Speaking, among other things, in Hebrew, and will lead them to the solarium. – Wait until the last issues of the morning papers come out, and send Jim, the gardener, to Washington, and let him buy as many different newspapers as he can carry. Especially the central ones. They threw their best people on this story, who can reach out to others…
– I’ll make a list for him. Then Kashi will bring them to you.

Sabri’s wife didn’t arrive at the motel in Woodbridge, Virginia until the middle of the next day. Evan opened the door to cabin number 23 and was especially grateful to her when he saw her driving the gardener’s pickup truck. He didn’t think of a red herring himself, but his friends in Dubai figured out not to drive his Mercedes through the crowd that surrounded the house.
