The Little Choo Choo Daycare: A Las Vegas Urban Legend

Does a little boy still haunt this street?

Look up any article about haunted locations in Las Vegas, and you are sure to come across the story of the Little Choo Choo Daycare. The now defunct daycare, the story goes, was the site of two unfortunate deaths. A little boy, who presumably attended the daycare, was accidentally run over in the front yard by the company’s toy train. The “toy train” was actually a gas-powered multisectional train, the type used to drive kids around malls and fairs. The second death occurred when either a teacher or aide took her own life while on the job.

The location, the original building has since been torn down, is said to be haunted by the apparition of a little boy digging a hole with his toy shovel. He appears both during the day and at night. The spirit of a black woman can also be seen wandering about the area, it is presumably the spirit of the woman that committed suicide, but could be another spirit altogether.

Researching the story uncovered a problem — there is absolutely no outside documentation that these deaths ever happened. It seems if a suicide occurred on the grounds of a daycare, and especially if a child died accidentally while at the same daycare, one or both of these tragedies would have made the news. Other suicides in and around schools have been reported on, so why not this one?

A few teachers have taken their own lives right here in the Las Vegas area. A science teacher, Fifty-eight year old Michael Roberts, fatally shot himself in the courtyard of Western High School back in 2010.

In 2005, a Green Valley High School history teacher, thirty-four year old Howard Wade Bycroft, attempted suicide, also while at school, by repeatedly stabbing himself in the abdomen. He was alone in his classroom, he was rumored to be living out of the room at the time, when he inflicted the wounds. Bycroft was found by another teacher and taken to the hospital; he survived the attempt. More recently, a fourteen year old girl jumped to her death at Coronado High School in May, 2015.

The second issue with the story is the location. Where exactly was the Little Choo Choo Daycare? A simply Google search will tell you it was at 3335 Wynn Road, just south of Desert Inn. The building there dates back to 1964 and has changed hands a good number of times since then. Ryan Mechanical has been there since 1996. This is an industrial area and a very unlikely spot to open a daycare, and, furthermore, where would the ghostly little boy be digging with his shovel there? In the paved parking lot?

The Wynn Road location as it looks today

However, according to locals that remember Little Choo Choo, it was actually located in the residential area behind Hyde Park Middle School, a short drive away. This area is much more likely to have had a daycare, and, at least at night, has an eerie feel to it. At the south end of the street a new building now stands, in fitting with the story of the original having been deconstructed. The school field borders the back fences of the houses, it is easy to believe that a ghostly boy still wanders the dimly lit fence-line, shovel in hand. It is unclear how the Wynn Road location became associated with the daycare, but the Hyde Park area seems the more probable spot.

Ultimately, the story of the ill-fated daycare does have some truth to it, but the details are a bit sketchy when put under the microscope. Regardless of how much can be verified, the fact remains that the Little Choo Choo Daycare will remain a Las Vegas legend for years to come.

6 Best Dog Daycares in Las Vegas! (2023)

Here’s what you need to know if you’re searching for dog daycares in Las Vegas. When you are out during the day, do you have someone take care of your dog? If not, then your dog may be stuck at home all day alone.

Many Las Vegas daycares can help with this problem. Your dog will get socialization and exercise while you’re away from them. It is no secret that when a dog gets lonely or bored, they become destructive and bark too much.

This makes it harder for their owner to keep their house intact and everyone in the surrounding area happy and neighborly.

When the people in an apartment complex hear a barking dog all day long or see destruction in front of their doorstep nearly every day, they might start to hate the owner of that dog.

When you get your dog into a daycare, they will get the opportunity to play with other dogs and have fun while being taken care of by trained people in pet care.

The place stays typically open all day long, so the dogs get constant supervision throughout the entire day, even if their owner has to go to work for only a few hours.

Just Like Home Doggie Hotel and Grooming

Last on the list of dog daycares in Las Vegas is “Just Like Home Doggie Hotel and Grooming.” Just Like Home will treat your dogs like family, whether they’re being left for the day or overnight.

Here are some additional reasons why they are Las Vegas’s top pick in all-inclusive doggie daycare, overnight boarding, and grooming. Dogs prefer patterns and habits such as feeding times, favorite foods, playtimes, comfort, and even snuggling – all of which they are accustomed to at home.

This reduces problems in dogs susceptible to stress, abnormal behavior, and anxiety. K-9 stress can be caused by strange noises, odors, temperatures, and being away from human interaction.

To better match the requirements of their visitors – your canine family members – they altered the environment from a cage-like atmosphere to something more akin to a home. They provide group rooms and individual rooms, and kennels for overnight guests.

Dog boarding facilities typically turn off the webcams at night, but they provide 24-hour dog boarding webcam views so that you can keep an eye on your pet 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Please note that webcams are only accessible in outdoor, group rooms, and private suite areas.

Shcherbakova won the Grand Prix stage in Las Vegas

Eteri Tutberidze’s student Anna Shcherbakova won the Grand Prix stage at the adult level on the first attempt. In the free program, the 15-year-old Russian woman performed two quadruple lutz cleanly, one of which she included in the cascade. Even Elizaveta Tuktamysheva could not resist the quads.

The 1st stage of the Grand Prix in figure skating among the adult age group – Skate America – has ended in Las Vegas. The greatest interest, which has already become a tradition, was represented by the women’s singles competition, where two Russian figure skaters fought for medals at once: Anna Shcherbakova from the group of Eteri Tutberidze and Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, representing the St. Petersburg school.

Hit the jackpot: Tutberidze’s student excited Vegas

Russian figure skater Anna Shcherbakova won the Skate America Grand Prix stage, performing in a free program…

October 30 15:13

Both Russians, perhaps, turned out to be the most attractive heroes for the American public – it was our skaters who announced the most difficult programs, the likes of which are rarely seen across the ocean with local athletes.

For the 15-year-old Shcherbakova, the tournament was the debut stage of the Grand Prix at the adult level. She was the first of the talented trinity Tutberidze to start in the prestigious series – Alexandra Trusova and Alena Kostornaya have yet to have their baptism of fire at the Grand Prix.

Despite her confident mastery of the elements of the highest category of difficulty, Shcherbakova’s short program in Vegas did not go well. She was only fourth, behind Japanese women Wakaba Higuchi and Kaori Sakamoto, as well as American Brady Tennell. Initially, the judges, who were extremely picky about the Russian skaters at the tournament, saw Shcherbakova’s controversial underrotation on the most difficult cascade of triple lutz + triple rittberger, but this did not become the main trouble.

During the performance, the Russian woman made a rare and gross mistake, falling down on the steps.

“In the free program, I tried not to dwell on it. It is clear that we will draw conclusions and try not to make any more mistakes, ”the Russian woman shared after the victory, noting that the coaches and parents helped her overcome the difficulties.

Shcherbakova did not get into the top three in the short run, however, given the level of her rivals, some optimism in anticipation of free skates still remained. And so it turned out in the end: the current champion of Russia perfectly fulfilled the promised quad lutz + triple toe loop combination, as well as a solo quadruple lutz. In addition, she jumped a combination of triple lutz + triple loop. And in the third combination, triple flip + triple salchow through the oiler, the judges again saw the controversial underrotation.

Anna #Shcherbakova is the first woman in history to have completed a quadruple jump in the senior Grand Prix.

— Massimiliano Ambesi (@max_ambesi) October 20, 2019 by the sum of two programs and a confident victory.

“Until the end of the program, I rode with the thought: “To endure, endure, do not relax.” I didn’t want there to be any flaws. I didn’t want stupid mistakes, to give points on trifles. My future plans? I want to be more confident in myself and in my performances: to perform purely both in the short and in the free program, ”Sport24 quotes the skater as saying.

Tennell, an American, who skated cleanly in an arbitrary number, scored more than ten points less. And the mark for the components of the local figure skater, who did not show anything extraordinary and made a mistake in the technical part, by the way, turned out to be higher than that of Shcherbakova. This is to the question of how they are judged in Nevada.

One way or another, the judges’ decisions did not make Shcherbakova upset. And the Olympic champion Alexei Yagudin even admitted that the spectators present in the stands did not fully realize what an achievement the Russian woman had submitted.

“People got up, but do they really understand that they have witnessed some kind of miracle? It really happened a miracle on the ice. I adore people who do something not in words, but in fact they do it. Shcherbakova came out and did everything without a word. This is not just an application that she is ready and planning quadruple jumps. She just came out and took out everyone, ”Yagudin said on Channel One.

Avoiding talking about Shcherbakova, it should be noted that this season every start is key for the main “veteran” of women’s single skating – Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, since the level of competition in the Russian team is simply outrageous. She did not succeed in the short program, like her younger colleagues, but questions for the refereeing team, one way or another, remained. In an arbitrary number, the student of Alexei Mishin managed to pull herself together: as planned, she managed to cleanly jump two axels in three and a half turns, one of which was put in a cascade with a double sheepskin coat.

In total, the 22-year-old Russian woman scored 205.97 points. Initially, the score was higher, but the judges noticed at the last moment that Tuktamysheva, in their opinion, did not spin the triple loop. She eventually finished third, behind Tennell.

“The emotions are positive, because we managed to present the program today with better quality than yesterday, so I am generally satisfied. The only thing left was a residue after a short one. But the main thing is that everything ended well. I wanted to end Skate America on a good note, I really wanted to. I wouldn’t forgive myself if I skated badly, ”said the skater at the end of the competition.

Special mention is made of the components of Tuktamysheva. Her program – bright and extraordinary, like herself, departs from the classics that have become boring to everyone. Fans in Vegas were delighted with the performance of the Russian woman, but the judges once again give her extremely low scores for this indicator – only 64.30 points. Of the top three, as they considered, Tennell’s number turned out to be the most interesting of all.

Stanislava Konstantinova’s performance at the tournament was a complete disappointment. She showed the penultimate result in the short program, allowing a lot of breakdowns and falls, and fell apart even more in the free program, although everything started well: double axel + triple toe loop and triple flip + double toe loop combinations, solo triple flip and triple loop turned out well, after which there was already a fall on the double lutz and a blot on the double axel, and then another fall on the lutz.

Based on the results of two programs, the 19-year-old ward of Valentina Chebotareva became only 11th, gaining 143.39 points. This is despite the fact that the best result in Konstantinova’s career exceeds the current one by more than 50 points.

“Two starts were in some kind of total stress and failure. While I can not name the cause of the errors, but I hope I will be able to identify it. Two such bad starts hit hard on self-esteem and reputation, so you need to figure it out so that this doesn’t happen in the future, work for the future. Now I have what I have, ”the applicant for the Russian national team emphasized after the rentals.

I would adopt a whole kindergarten. Laima Vaikule – Teacher’s newspaper

Irresistible Latvian Laima Vaikule, along with Moldovan Sofia Rotaru living in Ukraine, are the only pop divas from the post-Soviet space who have stayed on the pop Olympus of Russia. In the Vaikule family, only the grandmother sang, and then in the church choir, all the rest were simple workers. Lyme has been on stage since the age of 12. “It’s not evening yet”, “Vernissage”, “I’m praying for you”, “I went to Piccadilly”, “Acapulco”, “Fiddler on the Roof” and other songs were loved by the audience precisely performed by the charming Lima, who works in the style of European shows variety show. Our correspondent talked to the singer about her life and work.

– Laima, since childhood you dreamed of becoming a doctor and after the 8th grade you entered a medical school. Why did they drop this? Did you feel sorry for the frogs that students cut for educational purposes, you are known as an active defender of animal rights and a vegetarian?

– At that time I had very different thoughts than today. It seemed to me then that the most important thing is me, and the frogs later. Now I am sure that frogs and I are equally important to the planet. And I left the medical school, because I became interested in music and realized what I want to do in life.

– You grew up in a large family with two older sisters and a half-brother. Are you currently helping them financially or is this not customary in the Baltics?

– Naturally, I help. They are all on me. Family matters always come first for me. I like Eastern traditions, according to which the elderly are respected. We are all going to be old someday. If different generations coexist together in a family, it’s great. I don’t understand why, for example, in America, old people are taken to nursing homes. From this, probably, there is a decline in morals in the United States, where it is no longer possible to object to your teenage child so as not to get him in the eye. In family matters, I am a conservative person. At home, everything is under my heel, I forced everyone to reckon with me. But I do my best for them.

– Let’s continue the theme of the East. You have lived in Baku for several years. Why did you like Azerbaijan, and not some other republic?

– He attracted me because they loved me there. And we always love those who love us. It was back in Soviet times, when every artist was attached to a concert organization. I was invited to work from Azconcert. From him I went to an international competition. And she did not disappoint – she brought the Grand Prix to Baku. Then for a novice artist it was very important – I was immediately allowed to perform with a solo program. Raymond Pauls took part in the first 15 concerts. He was very surprised that every evening huge bouquets of flowers and baskets of fruits and oriental sweets were brought to my dressing room. I remember Raymonda asked: “Here you have worked all your life in the Riga Philharmonic. Have you ever given artists like this?” He answered with a sigh, “Never!” I have the best memories of Baku life. I am very grateful to the people of Baku who gave me shelter and did everything possible and impossible for me.

– You are a successful business woman – you own a cosmetic company “Lyma-Lux”. But your colleague Alla Pugacheva complains that no matter what she does: she produces shoes, chips or perfumes, buys plants and factories, every time she, a gullible artist, is robbed and bankrupt by cunning financiers. Tell me, are you a tough hostess? Are you easily deceived?

– In business, I don’t allow myself to be robbed. In this we have a big difference with Alla. Here I have a lot of trees and flowers on the site. Shrubs from Germany, Japanese pine… They all take root, no matter what exotic countries I bring them from. What is the reason? Don’t know. Plants, people, and business are drawn to me. I don’t even know what to complain about. I work with the best composers – Pauls and Krutoy. By the way, I already became related to them. Igor Krutoy and I christened the granddaughter of Raymond Pauls. Now here is godfather and godfather.

We had a funny incident with the joker Raimonds Pauls. Once we drank at his house, we celebrated something. And it was in 1991, when protests against the Soviet regime were held in Riga. Suddenly gun shots were heard from the street. Everyone was afraid that armed people might break into us, so they decided to save Pauls as a symbol of the nation. We closed it in the bathroom, and we ourselves are sitting on the floor, trembling. But then Raymond opens the door and throws out a slipper and a white sheet from the bathroom with the words: “I give up!” We laughed, the tension was relieved. A person who can joke even in such a situation is a really powerful person.

– If we are already talking about the christening of children, I can not help but ask how you feel about the fashion in Western show business for the adoption of children. Madonna fought for a long time to be allowed to adopt a black girl from Malawi. Once upon a time you also expressed your desire to adopt an orphan…

– Wonderful fashion! I would adopt an entire kindergarten, but I can’t. Everything works out well for me because before every important act I consult with the priest. This is Vladyka Victor, my godfather, confessor and great friend. But he did not give me his blessing to adopt a child.

– How did he argue that? Complained about the unsuitable for a child world of bohemia, which, probably, surrounds you?

– He didn’t give any reason. I just didn’t give it, that’s all.

– And one more thing about children. I suspect that it was not easy for you to lead the judging of the International Competition for Young Performers at Slavianski Bazaar-2009? After all, surely each member of the jury “dragged a blanket” in favor of his countryman-competitor?

– What are you doing. I have been sitting on various juries for twenty years. It’s business as usual. I remember how I got on the jury for the first time – at the pop song contest “Yalta-90”. Then the Ministry of Culture of the USSR still had a strong influence, and officials from there sat on the jury. I constantly incited everyone: “Look how good that boy is, and how loud this one is.” I was not the chairman, but the prize solitaire turned out the way I wanted, and the third place was taken by a young man from Kurgan, Max Fadeev, now a well-known composer and producer. He was slender and handsome then, but now he is simply handsome. So these people from the jury later cried to me that the authorities scolded them very much for Max. And they justified themselves: “We fell under the influence of Laima.” Since then, it doesn’t matter whether I’m the chairman or not, everyone is under my influence.

– Did you feel responsible for the fate of beginners?

– Of course. When you distribute puppies to new owners, and I have a whole family of American bulldogs, you understand that you are responsible for their fate. That’s about the same feelings I had when I watched the performance of the contestants. Although it is clear that any creative competition is an absolutely subjective thing. We do not decide their fate, but give only a small chance.

What is important for beginners? It seems that they have talent, and charisma, and they know how to hold on to the stage, and there is something to wear, but many lack sincerity. And other good guys lose because of the wrong repertoire, with which they cannot show their best sides. And the last criterion is a sense of perspective. What is the point of encouraging rich idlers who will then hang their laureate diploma on the wall and will never earn their living by singing.

– How do you feel about the fact that since July 1 all casinos in Russia have been closed? Now artists probably have fewer opportunities to perform in front of rich people?

– What are you talking about, we perform at their house. They pay more for it. In Latvia, casinos in our country operate as before. If you want to play, if you don’t want to, don’t play. It all depends on willpower, financial capabilities and desire. I myself go to casinos only in Las Vegas or Atlantic City. Gambling establishments in other places, especially in Russia, do not interest me. For some reason I think that in Las Vegas I have a chance to win, but not here.

– Recently, the media have often discussed the excessive demands of show business stars. Can I get more details about your rider?

– I have a regular professional rider. Do not confuse whims with exactingness. I always ask only what is necessary. This is everything that is connected with light, sound, scenery. Here I ask tough, because I always sing live. And whoever happens to be at my concerts will not let me lie. What about my household needs? Well, there are all sorts of nonsense. There shouldn’t be flowers in my hotel room – I don’t like it when real flowers are cut. Be sure to have water, ice, lemon, candles …

– What kind of car do you need for traveling?

– The best in town. I love Mercedes. But if this brand is not available, then you can take a ride on the GAZ.

– Can you share with our readers the secret of how you relieve fatigue?

– My team knows that before gigs I get really excited. I’m not interested in anything outside. And I never drink alcohol before a concert. And on other days I can skip a glass of Chivas. It relaxes, but for a good mood, 20 grams is enough for me.

In general, I am a bad adviser in this matter. The nervous system of each person has its own characteristics. What is good for one is bad for others. It helps me a lot to communicate with my dogs. My vitality is also perfectly restored by rest in Africa, Japan or on the islands in the White Sea.

– So that’s why you always look so great…

– It’s genes. Plus, every woman has her own method of caring for the body. They say that up to the age of 25 you live on loan from nature, at the expense of the resources of a young organism, and then you pay for everything. So, until 25 I lived like a nun, but now you see the fruits. And I do without plastic surgery. But I follow the skin: I do massages, masks. And, as a rule, I use domestic creams, because I like natural ingredients in cosmetics. And my most important diet is called “Sew up my mouth”, no matter what dishes are on the table.

– Have you ever wondered what the final chord will be when the time comes to end your vocal career? Will you kiss the stage, like Kobzon, or go around the CIS with farewell concerts, like Pugacheva?

– I don’t want to guess anything. I will not leave the stage until a person appears who will look better on stage than me and sing more professionally than me.

– Have you made any attempts to conquer the West?

– Yes. I had a chance to become a star in America. I just recently told my new friend Lara Fabian what record company I had a contract with, and Lara’s jaw dropped. But in the USA it quickly became clear that I was not one of those who leave their homeland forever.
