There were 136 passengers on board, all of them alive. Photographs from the accident site show that the plane is partially submerged in water. The Boeing is believed to have left runway

after landing. Photo: Jax Sheriff’s Office / Twitter

Near Jacksonville, Florida, the Boeing 737 ended up in a river after landing. Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Kerry made the announcement on his Twitter page.

“We have a plane in the river. I was informed by firemen and rescuers. They are at the scene,” he wrote. nine0003

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office released photos showing the liner partially submerged. “The plane was in shallow water. The plane did not sink. All people are alive, ”the message says.

Reuters, citing a spokesman for the Jacksonville Naval Air Station, clarifies that there were 136 passengers on board the Boeing 737. According to him, the liner after landing moved off the runway and fell into the river. nine0003

The airport spokesman clarified that it was a flight from the naval base at Guantanamo Bay.

The footage from the accident site also shows that the logo of Miami Air International is depicted on the liner. According to Reuters, this is a charter airline operating a fleet of Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

nine0000 Florida Landmarks – What to See in Florida USA

Florida Landmarks are the most beautiful and interesting places created by both nature and man, such as beaches, national reserves, amusement parks and ancient cities with fortresses that are located in Florida, USA and annually attract the attention of millions of people from all over the world. Judging by the reviews of tourists, there are a lot of attractions in Florida for every taste that are worth seeing if you come there on vacation or just travel around America by car. We ourselves also drove around Florida by car – along the Atlantic coast and along the Gulf of Mexico, where we visited a lot of interesting things for us, collected practical information and compiled a tourist map. In general, we learned a lot about what to see in the southeastern United States, and now we are happy to share with you all the practical information about an independent trip to the sights of Florida – and what to see there. nine0003

Florida Landmarks Travel

Florida Landmarks Travel by car is an incredibly interesting trip through the southeastern United States, full of new impressions and an unforgettable experience! The beautiful weather in the tropical state is conducive to traveling by car, and the variety of a huge number of attractions is amazing.

Florida ( Florida ) is a very large state in the southeastern United States, located on the North American peninsula of the same name. The Florida Peninsula stretches from south to north for 1200 km. Florida is a real paradise with a tropical climate, beautiful nature and beautiful beaches on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, which is ideal for relaxation. Americans love to spend their holidays in Florida, going there regularly with the whole family.

Good to know: The most famous city in Florida is Miami, of which Miami Beach is a part – a real mecca of beach holidays, nightlife and entertainment (almost like in Las Vegas, but without casinos and mostly with elements of Latin American culture).

Ocean Drive is the main entertainment street in Miami and South Beach

Miami’s famous beaches, the unique city of Key West and national parks are located in southern Florida, while family entertainment such as Disney World, Universal Studios in Orlando and other theme amusement parks, as well as the famous Cape Canaveral – closer to its center. But this is not all the attractions of Florida. nine0003

Recommendation: The most convenient way to get around the state is by renting a car, since the distances between its attractions are quite large.

Miami Beach

Miami is a combination of tropical paradise and the splendor of civilization

Florida is a large state and to better see its sights on your own, it is better to rent a car

auto – very easy! Here are three easy steps to prepare for solo travel:

  1. Search Aviasales for the best deals on flights to one of Florida’s international airports. The largest and most popular of them are:
    • Miami International Airport (MIA)
    • Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport (FLL)
  2. Rent a car directly at the airport upon arrival. We usually use this site to find the best prices.
  3. Take a trip to the sights of Florida with a detailed plan that you can take from us and adjust to your wishes. nine0104

Important to know: Highways in Florida are mostly free. But there are also toll roads, which are faster. They are called Florida Turnpike . Almost all highways, except Route 4, leading to Orlando are toll roads. There is also a toll section from Miami to Homestead, from Fort Lauderdale to Naples (Route 75). Tolls in Florida are based on distance traveled (6 cents per mile).

We have accumulated a lot of experience in traveling on US roads. And we are happy to share them with you! nine0003

Fun Fact: If you travel the East Coast of the US, not just Florida – as we did on our trip from New York to Miami – and come from up north, you should know that you will be welcomed. On every highway leading to the state, there is Florida Welcome Center , where you can stop, relax, treat yourself to grapefruit juice, because Florida is a citrus state, as is clear from their license plates – take maps and get valuable information about the state and its attractions for free! nine0003

Car rental in New York – our experience and prices

Almost immediately after this welcome sign to enter the state of Florida is the visitor center. There are also tourist information centers in Miami and other cities of the state

By the way, when we drove around Miami and the surrounding area by car, we did not notice any special traffic jams. Compared to New York and Los Angeles, Miami is quite a convenient city. However, it should be borne in mind that parking on the main streets is paid. We advise you to look at suitable parking on this site. nine0003

Miami Roads

This was the basic information that motorists in Miami or another major Florida city might need. And now let’s figure out why it is generally worth going to Florida, except for forever hanging out on the beaches and in clubs or going on a cruise in the Caribbean, and what you can see in sunny Florida.

What to see in Florida – my top 3 interesting places

In terms of the variety of different attractions, Florida can compete with California, where it is also very convenient to travel to interesting places by car.

Here is my personal TOP 3 attractions in Florida worth seeing there:

  1. Lammas Park Beach in Miami I especially liked because it is very clean. Next to it is a cozy promenade, convenient for both pedestrians and cyclists. It is good to walk there under the shade of palm trees, hiding from the hospitable and generous sun of Florida. nine0002 Lammas Park Beach in Miami

  2. Everglades National Park we especially liked and amazed me personally with the opportunity to see live alligators! For the first time in my life I saw these monsters with my own eyes! And the unique natural landscape of the Florida swamps also fascinated.

Everglades National Park. There are two alligators and one photographer in the frame. See?

  3. Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine is a testament to the historic strength of the Florida coastline. I advise you to visit the star fortress in the center of the first European city in the USA to everyone who visits the north of Florida. nine0002 Fortress Castillo de San Marcos

Florida Attractions

And now I’ll tell you about the most important attractions of Florida !

Beach resorts

  • Miami ( Miami ) is the most famous resort in Florida and the club capital of the USA. Here it is best to relax in an excellent hotel and go to the beach, taste Cuban cuisine and be sure to have fun from morning to night. And above all we are talking about the beach South Beach ( South Beach ) and its main artery, Ocean Drive.
  • Fort Lauderdale ( Fort Lauderdale ) – American Venice. Unlike Venice on the West Coast, this is a respectable area. There are also prestigious shopping centers, beaches and a port from where cruise ships leave for the Caribbean.
  • Key West ( Key West ) – the southernmost point in the United States and one of the key islands, where a beautiful road across the ocean leads. Most of the tourists come here for the sake of the Hemingway House Museum and to shop on Duval Street. And of course, relax in a tropical paradise. nine0104
  • Delray Beach ( Delray Beach ) – postcard town of the 20s, very quiet and peaceful beach town with a beautiful main street Atlantic Avenue
  • Daytona Beach ( Daytona Beach ) is a beach town a city worth visiting for those who are fond of auto and motorsports, as it is the motorcycle capital of the United States. NASCAR races are held here, and on the beach you can drive a car yourself. And in the summer, free concerts are often held in Daytona Beach.
  • Naples ( Naples ) is a Gulf Coast town best known for its high-end shopping and countless golf courses. In part, it resembles the town of Myrtle Beach in South Carolina. The beaches here are quiet and calm, and the sand is white, almost like in the best resorts in the Maldives.
  • Fort Myers ( Fort Myers ) is one of Florida’s most famous resorts for families with children. Beaches and shopping are all you need to worry about during your holiday in Fort Myers. From here, by the way, it’s not far to go to the Everglades National Park to look at alligators and go boating on a sea of grass. nine0104
  • St. Petersburgh ( Saint Petersburgh ) is the city whose nickname is “Sunshine City”. Beaching, golf, yachts, fishing and unexpectedly the home of the Salvador Dali Museum – that’s how you can briefly describe Florida Peter.
  • Clearwater ( Clearwater ) is the most popular beach town on the West Coast of Florida, close to Tampa and St. Petersburg. Clean white sand beaches, developed tourist infrastructure and a large selection of hotels. nine0104
  • Sarasota ( Sarasota ) – a small city on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico south of Tampa, with beautiful houses and the best beach in the US – Siesta Beach. One of the most favorite places to live among the American rich.
  • Marco Island ( Marco Island ) is a modern beach resort with a long wide white sand beach in southwest Florida, 20 km south of Naples. A wonderful place for a relaxing or romantic getaway in nature. nine0104
  • Cocoa Beach ( Cocoa Beach ) is the most convenient beach town for those who come to Florida with children and are interested in the development of astronautics in the United States. It is 60 miles from Orlando, but only 25 miles from Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Museum.

The sand is white and the ocean is azure. The beauty!

Sunbeds on Florida beaches are usually paid and belong to one of the hotels on the first line0003

This is what Florida water sports look like

Fort Lauderdale beach. I liked the beaches of Miami more

Although Fort Lauderdale has a long promenade – more than 2 km!

The beaches in Florida are some of the best in the US. They are much better than the beaches in Los Angeles and some of them can even compete with the beaches in the Maldives. In my opinion, the beaches in the Gulf of Mexico are better than those on the Atlantic coast.

And of course, it is worth choosing not city beaches, although they are much better than many beach resorts in Europe, for example, but the beaches of state parks. You have to pay to enter the parks – usually about $10 per car. But it’s worth it – there are fewer people and the sand is cleaner. However, for whom it is important to be closer to the hotel and civilization, this option will not work. nine0104

  • Biscayne National Park is a marine national park in Biscayne Bay. Diving, snorkeling, trip to the key islands – that’s what you can do here.
  • Big Cypress National Preserve ( Big Cypress National Preserve ) is another reserve with a unique variety of landscapes, a source of fresh water for Florida and the home of the Florida panther.
  • Dry Tortugas National Park ( Dry Tortugas National Park ) is a small group of key islands in the Gulf of Mexico, on one of which is the ancient Fort Jefferson. Here, crystal blue water, a coral reef, which means you can go diving and snorkeling!
  • Wooden bridges have been laid across the swamps and seas from the grass of the Everglades Park, so that it is convenient for us and other tourists to take a walk and look at the habitat of alligators

And here he is – a terrible inhabitant of Florida! nine0003

Atlantic Watch in Biscayne National Park

All Florida’s national parks are located in the south of this state, and not so far from Miami. To visit the Everglades, Biscayne and Big Cypress, it is more convenient to settle in the town of Homestead. And from there it’s also convenient to start along the Florida Keys road to Key West and swim to Dry Tortugas Park.

See the best accommodation in Homestead here . We spent the night there ourselves for only $60 in a wonderful hotel Garden Inn (a good breakfast is included in the price), which we recommend as a good place for an inexpensive vacation.

    Historical cities

    • Saint-Ogastin ( ST Augustine ) is the first European city in the USA, the famous old city, a powerful fortress of Castillo de-San Marko de San Marcos) and the beaches on Anastasia Island.
    • Micanopy ( Micanopy ) is the self-proclaimed Antiquities Capital of the Americas. The residents of the city decided that they had enough antiques on the streets to deserve this title. And the shady alleys make the city look like Savannah in Georgia. Also in the fall, Micanopy hosts the Harvest, Music and Craft Festival.
    • Kissimmee ( Kissimmee ) is a small town near Orlando, also child oriented in Florida. And this is where the Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Orlando Resort and SeaWorld Orlando are located. And nearby are the Everglades swamps and several iconic outlets. In general, Kissimmee is for those who want to stand out from the crowd when traveling to Florida with children. nine0104
    • The White House on Key West ( Little White House ) was the winter home for President Harry Truman. He lived and worked in Key West, believing that in Florida his productivity increased. It’s much better to live in the tropics than in cloudy Washington, who can argue?
    • Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse ( Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse ) is a lighthouse located at a narrow bay, the construction of which was entrusted to George Gordon Meade, the future winner of General Lee at the Battle of Gettysburg. The lighthouse was built in 1860 and is still in operation. nine0104

    St. Augustine Old Town

    San Marcos Ancient Fortress

    Delray Beach Historic Town

Florida was discovered by Spanish settlers, so there are indeed many historic towns, including the first settled by Europeans and the permanent city of San Agustin (St. Augustine). And just like in California (for example, in Santa Barbara, Carmel or San Diego), in Florida you can admire the colonial architecture. And the tropical climate makes visiting these towns even more exotic. nine0003

    Things to do with kids

There are many interesting places in Florida for parents with children:

    • Disney World including the newest Avatar Park – based on the world of James Cameron’s film of the same name.
    • Legoland ( Legoland ) is a theme park with rides and roller coasters in Winter Haven. The largest in the States. nine0104
    • Everglades Alligator Farm – is the oldest alligator farm near Miami. Here you can ride a boat through the swamps and see an alligator show.
    • Dinosaur World is a park with over 150 life-sized dinosaur sculptures located between Orlando and Tampa.
    • Universal Orlando Resort The Universal Orlando Resort ) is a theme park dedicated to the films of the Universal Studios, among which there are many children’s films. All fans of Star Wars, Harry Potter – you are here!
    • Epcot is Disney’s educational theme park where children can learn about future technologies and other countries in a playful and interesting way.
    • SeaWorld Orlando is a theme park and zoo in Orlando. Similar parks nearby are Discovery Cove where you can swim with dolphins, and Aquatica. They are all close to each other.
    • Universal’s Islands of Adventure is another theme park in Orlando with roller coasters and other activities.
    • Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is a theme park and zoo in Tampa with the opportunity to visit the African savannah and see African animals.

In addition to the beaches in Florida, there are things to do for children.

Like Las Vegas, Florida is full of interesting places to go with children. And everyone knows that people from all over the world go to Florida with their children. So if your children are passionate about the world of American cartoons, then they will definitely like Orlando. It’s no secret that many adults love to hang out at Disney World (not to be confused with Disneyland in Anaheim) and walk around the pavilions of Universal Studios! nine0003

    See also:

Hotels in Orlando – which one is better to book near Disneyland by choosing a suitable beach town and relax by the sea. It turns out that Florida is unbridled American-style entertainment and great beaches in one bottle. And you don’t have to think about what to do with children, as during a family trip to the Maldives. nine0003

And those who don’t want to leave Orlando anywhere can visit the Disney-style tropical resort – Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon .

Although I would recommend that you check out my family travel itinerary for Florida, where I describe how to connect the interests of both children and their parents, and not to stress too much and not to travel very far.

    Space lovers

Florida space attractions Florida’s Space Coast :

    • Cape Canaveral ( Cape Canaveral ) is a town midway between Miami and Jacksonville, in central Florida, best known as the launch site of the American shuttles. But apart from that, the city also has a great beach.
    • Kennedy Space Center – this is where you should come to participate in one of the excursion programs to explore space. It is usually recommended to book a whole day for a visit. nine0104
    • Cocoa Beach – after visiting the museum you can relax on the ocean.

Dima is learning to walk on the Moon like an astronaut, although we have already been to places where astronauts train in Idaho in the Lunar Craters Park

    Scenic roads

And in Florida, there are places for car lovers to roam. There are a number of scenic roads here:

    • Florida Keys Highway ( Florida Keys Scenic Highway or Overseas Highway ) is a 110-mile road that runs along 43 key islands right across the ocean and bay. It is the only Florida road designated as an All-American, the All-American Road. Panoramic views of the blue distance, dolphins swim nearby, can you get tired of such a road? Read our detailed review and itinerary of the Overseas Highway with a description of the sights here.
    • Old Florida Highway ( Old Florida Heritage Highway is a 45 mile road in northern Florida where you can explore the state’s cultural heritage. For example, visit the house of the writer Marjorie Rowling and explore towns such as Micanopy and Rochelle.
    • Coastal Highway A1A ( Broward County A1A Scenic Highway ) is a 32-mile road along the Coastal Channel in Broward County from the pier at Deerfield Beach to the Hollywood Beach boardwalk in Fort Lauderdale. • Another 72-mile section of the A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway extends from the luxury golf resort at Ponte Vedra Beach, through historic St. Augustine, to Flaglet Beach. Along the way, you can visit state parks, national monuments, historic towns, and beautiful beaches.
    • Green Mountain Scenic Byway is a 45 mile highway around Lake Apopka, which is near Orlando. The road passes through the green hills of the countryside between tiny towns. Just imagine the way along such islands-keys!

What else to see in Florida

As you can see, I have described the most popular, but far from all the attractions of Florida. There are many more interesting places to visit as well.

Due to quite long distances, it is recommended to rent a car in order to combine all these interesting places in one trip. Unless, of course, you want to just fly to Miami to sleep all day and relax on the beach, and then hang out in clubs all night. nine0003

Other interesting things to see in Florida:

    • Coral Castle ( Coral Castle ) is an interesting castle-museum and garden with sculptures, built from shell rock by Edward Leedskalnin in the middle of the 20th century. Located near Miami.
    • Fairchild Tropical Garden ( Fairchild Tropical Garden ) – very rare tropical plants can be seen in the garden. Also located near Miami.
    • Fruit & Spice Park in Homestead.

The city of Miami itself can be explored on a tourist bus, as in New York

And yet, most of all, the beaches beckon to Florida, right?

My conclusion: Florida is a big state, there are a lot of attractions, you can’t see everything at once! Unlike the sights of New York, everything is not so compact, so you can’t get around everything on foot, and you will have to travel a lot. It is understandable, New York is the largest metropolis, but still a city, and here is a whole tropical state! Therefore, I recommend coming to Florida several times and exploring different parts of this state:

    • The southern part of is worth a visit for a beach holiday and exploring amazing nature;
    • The center section is perfect for traveling to Florida with kids;
    • The northern part of the state can be viewed for the sake of historical interest.
