Series for women

Mary Alice Young is an exemplary housewife, whose every day is reduced to bringing home comfort, cleanliness and comfort of loved ones to the absolute. Her every day consists of cooking, cleaning, creativity, gardening and a constant smile on her face. And on this ordinary Thursday, everything was as usual. Except for one thing: after all the business, Mary Alice opened the pantry in the hallway, took the revolver that was gathering dust in the box, put it to her temple and pulled the trigger.

The news of the neighbor’s suicide quickly spreads along Wisteria Lane in the fictional American town of Fairview and becomes one of the most incredible mysteries for her friends: the proud single mother Susan Mayer, the perfect housewife Bree Van de Kamp, the happy mother of four children Lynette Scavo, and also the former model and real wife of the wealthy Gabrielle Solis.

A found letter with a threat, received by Mary Alice on the day of her death, explains to her friends the reason for the neighbor’s suicide, but does not give the most important answer – what does that anonymous person know, because of which it would be worth committing suicide? This is what they are trying to find out, although behind the facade of an ideal life, each has its own drama, which Mary Alice Young learns about only after her death and tells the audience about the fruits of her afterlife insight.

Bree’s unnatural impeccability leads to a militant protest against her by her children and her husband’s insistent request for a divorce. Gabriel, tired of the material wealth and spiritual poverty of their relationship with her husband, starts an affair with an underage gardener. Former businesswoman Lynette tries unsuccessfully to find happiness in raising four children and is jealous of her husband, who constantly disappears at work. And Susan is finally ready to recover from her husband’s infidelity and departure, but between her and that handsome plumber Mike Delfino, who recently settled across the street, stands the unprincipled and boorish blonde Idy Britt, whom not a single man could refuse. Meanwhile, lonely old maid Martha Hubert sticks her nose into all the vicissitudes of neighborhood life, including the strange behavior of the widower Mary Alice Young.

Thoth, while everyone is preoccupied with himself, digs up a child’s toy chest that had been resting for years under the pool in the backyard and recklessly throws it into the river. Of itself, the old box is of no value, however, the monstrous find inside – the remains of a quartered woman – raises questions from the police and, oddly enough, Mike Delfino.

Plumber turns out to be just a front for Mike’s true profession. He turns out to be none other than a mercenary who was hired by the father of the missing girl here. But Mike has his own reasons to find her: once he had a relationship with Deirdre, but then she got involved with drugs and disappeared.

Unfortunately for Martha Hubert, she was the first to know that the unfortunate Deirdre was in that chest. And the Young spouses killed her, because she, having previously sold her child to them, one fine evening knocked on their door with a statement that she had recovered from addiction and wanted to raise her son legally as a mother. Blackmail with this information drove Mary Alice to suicide. However, Paul, her husband, blinded by rage, anger and a thirst for revenge for a broken family idyll, does not make a deal with his conscience and a curious neighbor, but silences her.

At this time, Susan manages to have an affair with Mike several times and break up with him. Bree tries her best to save the marriage, even if it means playing sadistic role-playing games with her husband Rex in bed and accepting her son’s homosexuality. Gabrielle does not balance well on the blade of adultery, due to which, by coincidence, the mother of her husband Carlos ends up in a cemetery under a tombstone. And Lynette breaks her husband’s career in order to see him at home at least occasionally.

All this turns their usual course of life by 180 degrees. And now Lynette is forced to go to work and earn money for the family, while her husband takes care of the children. Bree’s attempts to improve relations come down to her husband’s infidelities and his health problems, which are deliberately exacerbated by a pharmacist who is in love with her to the point of madness, substituting medicines for Rex, which ultimately leads to his death. Pregnant either from her husband or from the gardener, Gabrielle remains alone in a luxurious house, since Carlos is convicted of beating completely strangers, whom he suspected of having an affair with Gaby. And, it seems, only Susan got it right, but no.

The secret of housewife Mary Alice, Angela’s former doctor, is revealed. At gunpoint, Paul tells Mike what really happened that evening: self-defense, followed by hiding the body for the sake of a quiet family life for a child. Mike is surprised that Deirdre had a baby and now suspects Zack Young is his son.

And this promises only the beginning of new and no less dramatic ups and downs on Wisteria Lane, especially when the secretive Applewhite family moves into the house next door – mother Betty and son Matthew: they never invite anyone to visit, and suspicious noises constantly come from their basement .

Their secret, like the secrets of Katherine Mayfair, who returned with her daughter Dylan and husband Adam to Fairview after many years, Orson, who became the second husband of Bree, Paul Young, who after 10 years decided to take revenge on his neighbors, and others are revealed by accident or intentionally . But definitely not without the participation of ubiquitous friends in the neighborhood.

For decades, betrayals, divorces, romances, losses, deaths, early pregnancies, miscarriages, problems with children, alcoholism, oncology, lack of money have constantly become someone’s secret, which everyone unsuccessfully tries to hide from the eyes of others behind the high fence of their fortress under titled “Ideal Family”. But, as you know, everything secret always becomes clear.

Gorgeous series! You can find yourself in each heroine, watching series after series, you involuntarily become attached to all the characters)) After watching it, it became sad, you don’t want it to end))) There are a lot of subtle jokes among themselves, you can laugh and cry with him. I recommend it to anyone who wants to see for the soul – this is it!

We are watching with my husband, although tastes are different. In one breath. Funny, sad, interesting, trite, and so on, you can write a bunch of opposites about the series. But what is certain is that it can be interesting for a variety of people. And let some events seem like a fairy tale, but some make you think. There is no “burden”, there are no “brakes”, events change quickly, which makes it impossible to get bored even for a second. If it were not for the desire to sleep, we would watch non-stop. In general, the series is great!

500 million times, every time like the first. The last 2 episodes are always with tears. Why did Paul Young dig the chest out of the pool? If he hadn’t, no one would have found anything. I understand, this is for the plot of the plot, but, nevertheless, it’s stupid

April 10, 2019

Super series! but Susan would have been nailed for her childish stupidity)))))))))))

I join all the positive and enthusiastic reviews! It was simply impossible to drag me further from him, I watched any free and not very minute and watched all seasons from 1 to 8)) The heroines are simply a miracle, each in its own way, in each you see a part of yourself. Even my husband sometimes looked with me and children.

nchurilina 9003 This is a nightmare I thought that the series was stupid and I would turn it on in the background in the kitchen .. As a result, I got hooked tightly and I can’t stop. This is not a banal melodrama, but very twisted storylines, you are always waiting for an answer in the next series. The series exceeded expectations

September 16, 2019

  • Screenwriter Mark Cherry came up with the idea to tell about the life of seemingly happy housewives after he accidentally saw a TV report about a woman named Andrea Yates. She killed her husband and five children in a fit of a nervous breakdown. Reflections on what could have pushed the wife and mother to take this desperate step became the basis for the series, where the same women are subjected to various trials: betrayal, deceit, murder, betrayal, blackmail and much more.
  • According to Mark Cherry himself, the plot of the first episode came to his mind after a conversation with his mother, who admitted that raising children without a husband sometimes drove her to despair.
  • It was originally planned that each episode of the sitcom would not exceed 30 minutes. However, later the authors decided to extend the running time to an hour and add dramatic overtones to the story.
  • When creating the style of the sitcom and its atmosphere, the creators were inspired by the series “Sex and the City” (1998-2004) and the Oscar-winning film American Beauty (1999).
  • Networks such as HBO, CBS, NBC, Fox, Showtime and Lifetime refused to air the comedy series pilot. ABC also did not want to take the series into its broadcasting schedule, however, after adding a dramatic basis and black humor to the script, it changed its mind. The debut of “Desperate Housewives” was a resounding success. Over 20 million people watched the first episode alone.
  • The series could have been called Wisteria Lane or The Secret Life of Housewives. Desperate Housewives was approved by ABC on October 23, 2003.
  • Filming took place in Hollywood at Universal Studios. Wisteria Lane was modeled and built specifically for the series.
  • The creators did not tie the events of the plot to a specific place and not only specially created the street, but placed it in a fictional town called Fairview. However, in the series, several conflicting clues were given that point the viewer to the approximate location of the town. So, in the first season, the Saddle Ranch restaurant was once shown, which indicates California or Arizona, where it is. At the same time, the Mayfair and Applewhite families arrived in the nearby town of Fairview from Chicago. But Lynette’s friend Renee, who lives in New York, says she flew across the country to see her, pointing to the west coast of the United States of America. Also in the scene where Susie is looking for her ex-husband’s grandmother’s ring is a sign for US Highway 7, which runs from Norfolk south of the Canadian border in Vermont.
  • Initially, Mark Cherry suggested that the director invite the Sex and the City actresses to play the main characters: Sarah Jessica Parker (Susan Meyer), Cynthia Nixon (Brie Van De Kamp), Kristin Davis (Gabrielle Solis) and Kim Cattrall (Lynette Scavo) .
  • Screenwriter Mark Cherry considered Bree Van De Kamp to be the most successful. More than seven actresses auditioned for the role. Among them are Kim Cattrall, Rosanna Arquette, Helen Hunt, Cindy Margulies, Kristin Davis, Katey Sagal and Nicolette Sheridan, who was eventually approved for the role of bitchy blonde Iddy Britt.
  • Pamela Anderson could have played the sexy businesswoman Iddy Britt.
  • Friends star Courteney Cox-Arquette was supposed to play Susan Mayer, but the actress turned down the role due to her pregnancy.
  • Teri Hatcher, who plays Susan, broke two of her ribs while filming the scene where her character falls into a wedding cake. However, the actress insisted on continuing filming.
  • Inspired by the provocative work of Quentin Tarantino, the creators of “Desperate Housewives” in the first version of the script assumed that Bree Van De Kamp’s son Andrew would die from drugs.
  • In one scene, Bree Van De Kamp tells her son that she would love him even if he were a murderer. The same words were said to screenwriter Mark Cherry by his mother when he confessed to her of non-traditional sexual orientation.
  • Especially for one of the biggest fans of the sitcom, Oprah Winfrey, a 15-minute episode with her participation was filmed, where the heroine of Oprah learns all the secrets of Wisteria Lane.
  • Throughout the series, you can repeatedly observe that the interior, which is visible from the outside through the open door of the house, does not match the interior inside the same house.
