Note on Frequency of Inspections

Centers, Group Homes, and Licensed Family Homes::

In 2014, legislation was passed that changed the number of unannounced visits from two per year to one per year in Child Care Centers, Group Child Care Homes, and Licensed Family Child Care Homes. As a result of this new law, you may see a decrease in the number of deficiencies listed on this website for these types of providers. Unannounced visits are still made in response to a complaint, and visits are scheduled with the facility during the re-licensing process, which occurs every two years.

Registered Family Homes:

Most family homes are registered, not licensed. In 2014, legislation was passed that allows Child Care Licensing to make one unannounced visit to these homes each year. As a result of this new law, you may see an increase in the number of deficiencies listed on this website for Registered Family Child Care Homes. Unannounced visits are still made in response to a complaint. Click here for an overview of each facility and the requirements they must meet according to state law.

Anastasia Tatulova talks about the AnderSon cafe, the new role of the ombudsman for small and medium-sized businesses, the soup as a staple, and the dress code for a meeting with the president

Anastasia Tatulova, who opened the first Anderson family cafe in Moscow in 2009, where desserts are the main decoration of the window. – Now, of course, it won’t work like that, but I still like good desserts. It’s hard for me to find common ground with people who only eat grass. And we hire those who love sweets.”

And also those who enjoy being with children. And those who love the holidays. After quarantine, when it seemed that everyone should return to home gatherings, the demand for celebrations in cafes only increased. “Apparently, in difficult times, you want even more joy. At the same time, not everyone in the apartment is ready to arrange a family holiday, and especially with children. And in our hall and in socks you can run around and scatter toys on the floor. Like at home, but not at home.

In the late 2000s, Moscow embraced the trend of not only conscious, but also “active” parenthood. It has become the norm to take children to concerts and rallies, to museums and restaurants, and generally lead a lifestyle close to what it was before the birth of a child, and not dig in the sandbox. “Anderson” arose from the same idea – to make sure that both children and adults are comfortable. “I gave birth to my eldest son at 23, my youngest at 25, I traveled a lot with them alone,” says Anastasia, a native of Severodvinsk, who has a journalism department at Moscow State University, the Skolkovo business school, her own advertising agency and work for several corporations. – I remember, in Egypt, in a restaurant, a child, about three years old, was lying on the floor. We would have started: “You get sick, you get dirty, it’s indecent.” And there dad lay down next to them, and they began to look at the stars. I also wanted that. I couldn’t move, my dad is a military man. So, we need to arrange such a life here.

Since then, the children have grown, so has the business. A year and a half ago, when the book about Anderson, “Impossible, But Possible,” was published, the network consisted of fifty cafes in Russia and the CIS, supplied by its own factory, and Anastasia and her small and almost purely female team had plans for global expansion. Then the pandemic happened, Tatulova’s speech to the president, where she gently and stubbornly argued that without the help of the state, medium and small businesses could not survive, circled all the media and social networks. AnderSon eventually survived thanks to the supply of products to stores and the fact that its founder found an investor in the person of banker Alexander Lebedev, husband of Elena Perminova.

“It feels like you have to start all over again,” says Anastasia. — But, building the company anew, you can not step on the same rake and do it the way you want. For me, for example, production has always been more interesting than retail. In my opinion, a manufacturer is an honorable but underestimated profession among us. We started with a factory, then a cafe joined. But ten years ago, I was turning somewhere where I was not very comfortable. Cafe is a business for extroverts, and I’m an introvert. The factory is closer to me, and we are now actively engaged in the design of a new factory.”

I love holidays and surprises. Once I sent my husband a monkey life-size puppet with a gift to the bank. She was later remembered for a long time. And in Anderson, we believe that when came, then the holiday

Sweets? I begin to think with nostalgia about how the smell of chocolate will return to Moscow, but Anastasia thinks of something else. “We lived for a long time with the idea that we are a candy store, and about five years ago we conducted a study asking guests what is the most important thing in our cafes. Guess what they answered? Anderson is a place where you can always feed your child with soup. No culture in the world has such an attitude towards soup, but it’s like in our DNA: you are a bad mother if the child does not eat soup. I had this with my kids too. Before Anderson, when I was thinking about what I want to do, I went to the Gastronom school, and my first course was about broths, it’s very difficult to cook a delicious broth. And now we have made a new product for busy moms – a frozen natural bouillon cube. I bought it, put it in the freezer, then melted it in a saucepan in five minutes and got a cool broth, meat, fish, mushroom, vegetable, on the basis of which soup is prepared in another 15 minutes. There will also be confectionery products at the factory, a whole floor, but there are many more cool things that will help mom save time and make her feel like a normal mom – with soup. So I’m saving moms.”

How to save yourself in a situation where the world has gone crazy? “Don’t think about falling and run as fast as you can. The main thing is not to stop. I don’t run marathons, but I ski. So, when you go down the mountain, it is important to look ahead, and not under your feet, otherwise it will become so scary that you will certainly fall. Well, no democracy, quickly and single-handedly make decisions and implement them. Now it has become a little easier, and I slowed down the pace. Here I am flying to the Shantar Islands to look at the whales. True, no one guarantees that they will be there, they do not care that I fly to them. But I have gathered a good company, and there is no connection there.”

“Balance, so that both work and family are equally divided – this is not about me,” continues Anastasia. — I have a swing of priorities. Today it is more important, and tomorrow that. But I can say for sure: when your child in a hare, dragon or Batman costume – depending on age – performs at a matinee, this is more important than any meeting. The hare won, period. In the same way, I learned to schedule time for myself. I go to the bath every Wednesday. And you can’t put any tasks on the calendar – it’s busy, there is a bathhouse there. And this week I have a plan – to ride a boat on the Moscow River. I think about it every summer, and then it snows. Now I have a boat in my schedule. Not very romantic, but there definitely will not appear another matter. And going to buy beautiful shoes is also an important thing.”

Wearing is more important to me than how I look, but how I feel. Does it give me energy, does it create the right mood

What else should a businesswoman have in her wardrobe? powersuit? “Not. I wear jeans or trousers with shirts and cardigans. Sneakers and shoes with heels no higher than seven centimeters. I love shoe brands like Santoni, Stuart Weitzman, but also Prada and Valentino. They have my block. Comfort is the main thing. Therefore, for a meeting with the president, Anastasia put on a T-shirt with the Anderson slogan: “I don’t work – I live like that,” a jacket (“I think it’s Pablo”), Dsquared2 jeans and white sneakers.

“I did everything to be heard. Everything I could,” she says of that speech. Now Tatulova will try to correct the situation already as an ombudsman for small and medium-sized businesses in Russia. Tasks? To achieve changes in the tax system. Revise the criteria for the register of SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises): now the state equates a hotel with 250 employees or a small chain of cafes to a big business like Gazprom. Reduce administrative pressure. And 36 more points. “My son is an entrepreneur, he is engaged in children’s educational projects and camps, and I want him and people like him to build a business in a different reality. It’s the same story as with the baby on the floor. I see many women around whose business is born from simple desires: “I want my child to go to a good kindergarten. ” Social entrepreneurship, charity are almost always women. Men in business are probably more about conquest, while we are about creation. It’s about living the life you want.”

“Every Monday I want to stop doing business in Russia”

“Children left unattended will be eaten or sold into slavery” — such a sign now legally hangs in the Anderson family cafes. The court sided with the business after a complaint by the Ombudsman for Children. We spoke with the founder of Anderson about how easy it is to work with a family audience, why she advises against buying and selling obscure franchises, and what the cancellation of a business lunch gave.

Anastasia, what is Anderson like now? How many franchises?

In a month we will have 40 cafes – in mid-December we will open in Mitino. Of these, 14 cafes are franchised. In addition, we have a factory that produces what we sell.

Franchising is hard, in my opinion. To what extent do they meet your standards?

It’s definitely difficult. They are 100% consistent, another thing is that it requires such mental, moral, physical and material costs from us that for me a franchise is generally a big question.

Are they needed at all?

Yes, this was a big question for me in the beginning. Just a few years ago, there was a franchise boom in the country, and it still exists now, when you can open something and immediately start selling franchises.

Sometimes they come to me after some performances, they say: teach me how to make a franchise. I reply that this is the last thing to do. And we don’t really do that. Out of a hundred requests per month that come to us, we can conclude one contract at best.

A wrongly sold and wrongly sold franchise can ruin the entire business. Now the borders are open, and when they mess up in some city, the information flies very quickly, but people don’t care if it’s a franchise or what.

In my cafe, I can transfer the director, complete my training, fire him if he can’t do it at all. And in a franchise, we are dealing with an owner who has invested in a business. And a lot of money.

Considerable – how much?

Now the minimum threshold is 20 million. This is if you are very lucky, that is, the room is technically suitable, not at “zero”. These 20 million simply do not fall from the sky, their entrepreneur has earned. And he treats money accordingly, plus he has character. Entrepreneurs, in principle, are complex people, so this communication with them is often difficult. So franchising is a very hard business, harder than any property.

If it’s not fiction, of course. And it happens, you just hang a sign, and go ahead, but there’s nothing behind it.

This lives for a very short time. When people talk to me about franchises, my main advice is that if you don’t want to be controlled, you don’t need a franchise. Our checklist has more than five hundred items in order to open. Now a franchise cafe is opening in Baku, we postponed it once, postponed it a second time, because the checklist was completed by 70%. Until there is 100%, they will not open. And the opening is the easiest, then the control of the most severe standards begins.

Sushi cannot be put on the menu.

Not only sushi. People often don’t understand what they are buying. First of all, they buy someone else’s experience at a high price. A franchise is not an investment activity, it is connected with the direct conduct of business, with a lot of risks. If it has taken off 40 times, then perhaps it will take off on the 41st. Or maybe it won’t fly.

So not a 100% guarantee?

100 percent only with Sberbank.

These are the difficulties that are being written about now, what are they connected with?

Are you talking about checks?

And about checks, and about that comic sign. Why blow it up?

Warning sign in the spirit of Korney Chukovsky is six years old. This year, someone saw her in a Yaroslavl cafe and complained. The Children’s Ombudsman of the Yaroslavl Region appealed to the prosecutor’s office, which went to court demanding punishment for child abuse and propaganda of child violence. Court sided with Cafe

Yes sign – kindergarten. Someone simply has nothing to do, life is like that, there is little sun, so people are evil. Today I was driving in a car and reading a bunch of angry comments in a harmless mom group: here, a terrible private school put an advertisement on the tiles – come to study at the Luchik school. “Freaks, they ruined the tiles.” Yes, in two days there will be nothing on this tile, why be so angry.

This anger has to go somewhere. Who is smarter goes into sports, spends it there, or into creation. And someone needs to get to someone. And he does this in the presence of free time in all available ways. You just need to treat it with understanding, what can you do.

And as for the checks – is it within the framework of some kind of general tightening of the screws? Just some unhealthy interest in you.

Perhaps someone does not have enough money. Perhaps because we are getting bigger. The bigger you get, the more interest in you, this is inevitable. Either the stars coincided so well, or someone’s interest – to be honest, we don’t really think so far. Hired two lawyers, they are engaged.

Do you personally find it overwhelming? You recently said that you would “fight”.

It’s just that the journalists changed the word a little. The question was: why did you let them in? And what are we, going to arrange a scandal in the middle of the institution? Do you want to go to the kitchen? – Go. They supposedly found one fly there. To be honest, I don’t understand when the organized crime department goes looking for a fly. It distracts from work, diverts resources, money, forces.

If this is the story, have you ever wanted to stop doing business in Russia?

Yes, every Monday. And this is connected not only with checks, you just think: damn it, you already built it once, why did everything fall and lie around again? It happens that you take a person, but he doesn’t fit, in general you want to quit everything – you spend so much time and effort on it. The fact that doing business in Russia is dangerous is true. And it’s probably dangerous to take him anywhere. Entrepreneurship is inherently risky.

In general, I think that where I was born, I came in handy there. In the new reality, in principle, it is difficult to settle down, and I still have such a home-grown, small-town business. I have my factory here, I go in the morning and see what they are doing there, otherwise it will not be tasty.

I am a member of the EO International Business Association. There are about a hundred people from Russia in it, there is a threshold: you need to have a certain turnover, work out so much time. There are entrepreneurs with very similar problems, and it is very important to be able to talk to them. Otherwise, you can go crazy, it will seem to you that you are the only such idiot, only you can’t do anything. And there someone has already gone through this, someone says: “I have the same thing now.” There is always an answer to some question. This is useful stuff.

I communicate with many restaurateurs all over Russia, the general feeling is that most of them are dying.

In terms of absolute revenue figures, we have grown. And in relative terms, year by year, we have fallen. This is the first year that this has happened. We didn’t even fall in 2014. And despite the fact that inflation is so low, people simply do not have money, and there is nowhere to take it. People sometimes ask: what is so expensive? But we have very few opportunities to reduce the price. We have an input VAT of 10% when we buy flour, and when we make something out of it, the output is already 18%. This is how taxation works in the country.

Have you raised your prices in the last year?

We haven’t raised money for two years. We have to shoot something, because it is already too expensive. Why are prices rising? Including due to inspections, taxes, and increasingly complex administration, businesses are forced to spend more and more on servicing these processes, which is also inevitably invested in the price.

In any case, against the general background, you seem to be a successful project. What are the main business indicators for you, what do you constantly look at?

Every day I look at the income statement of each cafe. We look at the cost, of course. Plus, be sure every week – the payroll limit to the revenue for each cafe, because our salary is the largest item of expenditure. As for holidays, I look at the number of incoming calls in the call center and convert them into orders.

Do you listen to calls?

I am not, but there is a person who definitely does it.

And who is involved in marketing and promotion? Who invents Zubiley, 31st Pumpkin, Mamenin?

We come up with a lot of things ourselves, but this is exactly what the creative team came up with, a husband and wife that we hired for the holidays, and they somehow agreed with us. They come up with cool ideas, even cooler than us, which is terribly happy.

I recently spoke with a restaurateur from Vladivostok, he has a high-speed restaurant.

Is there anything big besides Zuma?

So I talked to him. He described his restaurant as a person. What is your Anderson?

It’s very simple. In the restaurant business, the places people go to are the exact replica of the person who made them.

So AnderSon is an exact copy of Anastasia Tatulova?

This is an absolute reflection of me and my friends. Take the same tablets about children – such is the humor, sharpness. That is, I am like this, not plush. It seems to me that Anderson is a place where it is comfortable for a person who does not really care how he looks in the eyes of others. If you want, come to visit me, I’ll pour you tea. If you don’t want to, don’t come, but you don’t need to come to visit me and screw me.

In Moscow I go to four establishments: Torro Grill, Boston, Probka and Honest Kitchen. Here they are an exact reflection of the people who made them. You come and understand: he likes it so much, and that’s why he did it. You don’t have to go if you don’t like it that way. It seems to me that this is such a respectful position, it is better than the desire to please everyone. But you need to understand that the person who does this is constantly faced with pressure: why don’t you do it, we don’t like it. On the one hand, you can’t help but listen, you still work for people. But on the other hand, the loss of identity is a terrible thing. One of the great and smart said: I don’t know how to achieve something, but I know how to achieve nothing – this is the desire to please everyone.

You are considered a chain of family cafes. And who are your ideal guests – families with children?

There can also be a family without children. A child with a mother is a family. A child with a grandmother is wonderful. And one person who wants to take a break from home is also a family. When they say about us “children’s cafe”, this is not entirely true. Adults can also come and celebrate their birthday with their families. But it won’t be a party, and we won’t be able to put “A glass of vodka on the table”, it violates our principles.

You have canceled business lunches. We can already say whether this decision is correct or not.

Yes, canceled over a year ago. Of course, it was a difficult decision, it was hard to take inside. From the point of view of money, it looks unreasonable, it definitely hit our revenue, there’s not even anything to talk about here. But it is correct from the point of view of identity. We turned into a canteen during the day. My last straw was when people standing in line for Gilyarovsky for a business lunch did not let a mother and child sit down. For me it’s alles when this happens. And they say: wait, we are in a hurry, we need to go to work. I can’t do that, it’s not my format.

I didn’t cancel because I’m somehow disrespectful about the business lunch, just otherwise I lose my main audience, I can’t keep the atmosphere that we need. We had three establishments where we regularly received complaints because people come and treat you like a canteen.

Here on the scales, on the one hand, there was money, on the other, what you think is right. It is a great happiness when the owner can make such a decision. Because to accept it, you need a serious margin of safety. When you work with legal entities, for example, and you can tell someone: you are excellent, but I will not work with you.

I don’t really believe those who say they do this all their lives. Because if you have a business – you have people whom you hired, you pay them a salary. When you understand that the company can be covered by such decisions, you will work with anyone, with whatever moral principles. It’s my opinion. And when you can make such decisions, it’s cool, you just have to live to see it.

Another similar solution – you canceled the Wi-Fi. Why and what did it give?

It’s hard to say about the result. Firstly, it became too difficult with this – to register, 185 warnings, constantly some complications. At some point, it seemed to us that the game was not worth the candle. And then, if a person really needs it, there is mobile Internet on the phone.

By the way, we have places where there has never been Wi-Fi. They are very small, and table turnover is very important there. We have, for example, a cafe on Gagarinsky with 20 seats. If a person sits there and works, then for a cafe, honestly, it is painful. We have free water, something else, that is, you can order a kettle of tea and sit for a very long time.

There is an opinion that business is built around high margin positions. Do you have this, confectionery, drinks? What are your locomotives?

There are two different questions here. Yes, just like everyone else. Of course, the margin on drinks is higher than on everything else. But food still provides the main revenue, 60%. Unfortunately, the locomotive category in terms of marginality does not coincide with the locomotive category in terms of sales volume.

Your confectionery from the factory, is it a serious competitive advantage?

For us, this is a significant part of life. We do not make cheap confectionery. We don’t have any preservative, we don’t even use powdered milk. In other words, everything is made from natural products. Accordingly, this is a short shelf life, write-offs, high cost of products. If we made from powders, ready-made mixtures and freezing, it would be five, ten times cheaper.

We are looking for, for example, a technologist. Technologist, by the way, is generally a scarce profession. It is simply impossible to find them, they all seem to have been strangled during the October Revolution, and they have not yet been born. This profession is not very highly paid, it was considered not prestigious. And when we talk to a person, he says that he no longer wants to work in one big, big network, I won’t name it, because there are powders. And when people compare prices, they don’t understand why. Also, not everyone can determine the difference in tastes – natural or not.

It’s sad that people can’t tell the difference.

But on the other hand, there is no abundance of places in Moscow where you can buy good confectionery in a decent amount. To list them, the fingers of one hand are enough. Because there are no technologists, an extremely hemorrhoidal process, no products, expensive and so on. And a lot of pastry-related projects have died because they couldn’t cross the line when there is a circle of people who understand why it costs so much, and not five times less.

Last question. What is your vision – what will Anderson be like in 3-5 years?

Oh no, it’s useless. We have plans, we try to live by them, but they are still adjusted every six months. We review everything, look around: we need to sit, wait, or quietly move on. Now such movements. Now none of these – with a sword, cheers, ran. You can do this if you don’t have money of your own. And we have them, we are sorry.

Well, you still need to dream.

Dreaming? Every day I dream about something prosaic, about a vacation. Dreams are simple, there are no such dreams to conquer the world. Our business is one in which daily small details are interesting.

So there is no global mission?

I don’t really like such things, I live in a paradigm of other words. We don’t have a mission, we don’t have values - we have rules. I don’t believe at all that a person at 25 who comes to work for someone is able to imbue someone with values. There are people who, even by the age of forty, do not have their own values or they cannot formulate them. Values are a very complex thing. It is much easier and more honest when you come to work somewhere, and they tell you: look, we have such rules, we are like that. In such situations we behave like this, in such situations we behave like this. If you are not ready to behave like this, please do not come to us. I have few friends, over the years there are no more of them, and I understand that their values, at best, are 80 percent the same as mine. And I can’t imagine how to find 1000 people to whom I will tell about my values, and they are like: yes, I have exactly the same ones! Therefore, I have no illusions about this.

Sting – biography of the singer, photo, personal life, wife and children, height and weight, listen to songs online

Sting is an actor, musician and singer who during his lifetime received the title of a legend of the world rock scene. Former member of The Police.

Winner of an Emmy and a Golden Globe, a nominal Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, four times an Oscar nominee. In 2020, the music publication The Rolling Store placed Sting in the top 50 best bassists in history (at number 32).

Sting’s music captured the hearts of millions of people and made it possible to understand how multifaceted and unbridled the talent of a person who follows his destiny can be. A lot has been written and told about his work, acting path, philanthropy, spiritual quest and personal life. We have tried in this biographical narrative to collect the most important facts from the life of a living legend.

Childhood: black and gray Newcastle upon Tyne

A child born in a port town in England on a gloomy October morning in 1951 to Audrey and Ernesto Matthew Sumner was named Gordon Matthew Thomas. The boy’s father worked as a mechanic at a machine-building plant, his mother created hairstyles for a few clients, then retrained as a nurse.

Sting as a child

She was 18 when Gordon, her first child, was born. Soon, almost one after another, the boy had a younger brother, Phil, and two sisters, Angela and Anita, so that children’s cries were Gordon’s constant companions. Audrey could not combine work with the upbringing of four children; her father, who received about 8 pounds a week, became the sole breadwinner of the family. They did not beg, but they only had enough money for modest food and clothes that the children wore for the elders. Due to financial problems, the spouses constantly quarreled, sometimes it came to fights.

Sting’s parents: Ernesto and Audrey Sumner

The industrial area of Wallsend, where Gordon grew up, is located on the North Sea coast, not far from Newcastle. Once there was a prosperous shipyard, but after the end of World War II and the fall in demand for ships, a crisis ensued.

Little Gordon Sumner (pictured with aunt)

The windows of the Sumner house overlooked the embankment. Giant hulls of broken ships blotted out the sun throughout the area. Disgusting ecology, miserable houses, drunken tavern regulars – that’s what surrounded Sting all his childhood and adolescence. The main childhood impression of the boy was the colors:

The main colors of my childhood are black and grey. Black is the color of the coal that was mined in my hometown. And gray is the color of the sea, which remained so even in clear weather. I wouldn’t want to go back to that past for anything in the world.

From an early age, Gordon had to attend a local Catholic school, which was distinguished by harsh methods of education. The Jesuit community to which the Sumners belonged practiced corporal punishment of children. This system of “education” the boy experienced in full. Not distinguished by a meek disposition and diligence, Gordon was subjected to executions much more often than the rest of the students. Until now, no one has been able to break a kind of “record” of the school: within one academic year, the future Sting stoically suffered a spanking over fifty times.

This is what the house where Sting spent his childhood looks like now

According to Sting’s memoirs, the only childhood joys in the town were the days when a new ship built at the shipyard was solemnly lowered onto the sea surface. Residents dressed up and gathered in the square, where the musicians invited to the holiday played. To little Gordon, these people seemed to be celestials, giving joy and fun, living in some other dimension unknown to him yet.

When at the age of ten he received a guitar as a gift from his uncle, the boy’s happiness knew no bounds. He immediately began to master it on his own, in addition to playing the piano, which seemed like an alien from another world in their shabby living room (at first Audrey played it, and quite well, but gave up music lessons).

Young sting

Mom, seeing the desire of her eldest son to study music, then enrolled him to a music teacher, who took 10 shillings per lesson, which was a rather big amount for those times and for a family of their wealth. However, the teacher soon abandoned the class, saying that Gordon was unteachable. The thing was that the boy wanted to play his songs, not academic studies.

Gordon has been declared unteachable by the music teacher. How wrong he was

In parallel with this, Gordon managed to help his father, who retrained as a milkman, became the school champion in the hundred-meter dash, was the star of the football team and was systematically subjected to executions for fights with classmates who teased him with Larch (a character from The Addams Family) because of his high growth. Gordon, who took ridicule to heart, became withdrawn and distant from his peers, preferring books to football games, where the field served as a narrow alley, and throwing stones at girls.

Sting was an introverted teenager who loved books

Interest in books in Gordon was awakened by his grandmother, whom he called the only cultural member of the family. At the age of five, at her request, he read Treasure Island. The adventures of Jim Hawkins forced the boy to escape from the surrounding reality, and he began to read voraciously. As a result, he grew up as a dreamy boy, he studied mediocre at school, but was very good in English and literature.

The Police

Why Gordon Sumner took it into his head to go to a teacher’s college, he now himself cannot explain. Further searches for a suitable profession did not bring satisfaction, although he had to be an English teacher, a road worker, a tax inspector, and a private music teacher.

Sting was a school teacher for a while (pictured top row)

In the evenings, putting aside the checked notebooks, he went to rehearsals of the local big band and honestly thought that he had such a hobby. On weekends, the ensemble performed in a large dance hall, and there one day Gordon, in his spacious black-and-yellow striped sweater, was noticed by Stuart Copeland, a well-known drummer in narrow circles, who was just creating a new group. According to one version, he offered Sumner not only to conquer the whole world, but also a new stage name, Sting.

“Sting” is translated into Russian as “sting”. Allegedly, it was because of the sweater, which resembled a bee in flowers, that the future rock star got her famous pseudonym.

“It’s a very short, compact signature name. Almost a mask that you wear as an artist, a public person. It’s not really you. It protects you to a certain extent, ”Sting said in an exclusive interview with Vladimir Pozner.

Posner. Sting

However, when he appeared with this name on stage, Gordon had to literally buy him out, because there was already a famous person with the same pseudonym – wrestler Steve Borden. The athlete agreed to a lucrative deal and sold all the “rights” to the right to “sting” the musician, who is now known under this name by the whole world.

The Police. Beginning (1977)

Soon, guitarist Henry Padovani joined Stewart and Sting and the trio The Police, whose birth year is 1977, and the place is the capital of punk rock London, began to perform. They were later joined by guitarist Andy Summer. Their work could not be attributed to a specific genre: reggae motifs, synth-pop, pop-rock and soul were mixed with punk sound, and the compositions were also distinguished by strong lyrics.

Young Sting at the beginning of his career

It was with great difficulty that the musicians managed to earn their living at the very beginning, when the first two singles Fall Out and Roxanne appeared (the latter was simply forbidden to be performed, since the song was about a prostitute). The promotion of The Police was helped by a case – the manufacturer of chewing gum Wrigley invited the guys to take part in the shooting of an advertisement on the condition that they bleach their hair – to match the snow-white smile that chewing gum contributes to. They agreed, and in the future, blond hair became one of the group’s calling cards.

The Police – Roxanne

Things were going uphill. After filming the commercial, the band’s debut album, Outlandos d,Amour, saw the light of day, reaching number six on the music charts despite more than modest recording conditions. In 1978, producer Miles Copeland heard the song Roxanne. He helped The Police secure a deal with major label A&M.

The car that Sting bought after signing a contract with A&M

The following year, Sting and his comrades re-released the single with this fateful song. If at 19In 78, the radio stations ignored it, then on the second attempt the song made a splash. A long, grueling tour of the US followed, including performances at Manhattan’s iconic CBGB club.

The Police performing at CBGB

But The Police gained true popularity after the release of the albums Zenyatta Mondatta, Regatta de Blanc, Ghost in the Machine. The single Invisible Sun from the last named album was dedicated to the 1981 Belfast hunger strike of political prisoners and touched upon the problem of political repression in principle. The topical song was banned from broadcast by the BBC.

The Police – Invisible Sun

The hit Every Breath You Take, recorded on the fifth and final studio album Synchronicity, brought the band to the peak of fame. Sting was prompted to create the song by his divorce from his wife, Frances Tomelty.

The Police – Every Breath You Take

By the early 1980s, Sting had become the band’s undisputed frontman. His popularity was facilitated by roles in films (“Quadrofenia”, “Radio On”), the position of the vocalist (which a priori implies the center of attention) and outrageous behavior.

For example, while touring in Australia, where The Police were very fond of, Sting got rude to an overly stubborn customs officer, advising him to shove things from a suitcase up his ass. For this, he had to sit in a prison cell until the producer rescued him.

In the era of The Police, Sting was known as a brawler and brawler

Gordon either got into a fight with the paparazzi, then disappeared for a month or two (later it turned out that he was either vacationing in Jamaica or being treated for drug addiction), then he was seen at a millionaire’s party with a dubious past, then he was caught cheating on his wife. In one interview, Sting casually admitted that there was a period in his life when he was constantly engaged in group sex. At the same time, he was known as an intellectual and could quote from memory the works of the fathers of philosophy, especially loved Carl Jung.

Blue turtles and solo career

It was the passion for the works of Jung that indirectly led Sting to leave The Police and pursue a solo career. Once, when he was sunbathing on the beaches of Barbados, he had a dream in which four hypertrophied blue turtles broke into the musician’s garden and made a brawl, destroying everything they had time to touch. And Sting himself ran around in a dream, rejoiced and helped the destruction.

Waking up, Sting realized that, firstly, this was almost the first dream that he remembered in such detail, and secondly, that blue turtles are a manifestation of his dark side, which, according to Jung’s concept, any artist has.

It was clear to me that the dark side of the personality has enormous creative potential. But it goes hand in hand with destructive potential. The turtles told me that I needed to direct my “demons” in the right direction. To destroy not myself, which I did before, but all my creativity, and start from scratch.

So in 1984, Sting left The Police at the peak of his popularity, hired obscure jazz musicians, and recorded his debut solo album, The Dream of the Blue Turtles (“Dream of the Blue Turtles”), simultaneously filing for divorce from his wife, whom he no longer wanted to deceive. . True, he had to endure unpleasant moments of explanation with his bandmates, and then go with them on a big farewell tour.

Sting’s debut solo album cover

The Dream of the Blue Turtles, which included the famous song about Russia, the Cold War and the fear of nuclear war, with a melody from Sergei Prokofiev’s “Romance”, went platinum. Sting was inspired by Soviet children’s programs for the song Russians. In those years, there was a stereotype in Britain that Russians did not like children. Once a friend of Sting, a scientist who could intercept the signals of Soviet satellites, invited the musician to watch Soviet television. It was morning, and children’s programs were on the air. The singer did not remember their names, but he was shocked by the atmosphere of care and love. “Both the West and the USSR put the future of children at stake. We love our children, and therefore we will not destroy the world, ”he said in an interview with Vladimir Pozner.

Sting – Russians

The next album, Nothing Like the Sun, whose title was inspired by a stanza from Shakespeare’s sonnet, won the top of the world charts in the world. Sting recorded it with Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler. Starting with this disc, the musician in his work reflected all the problems that worry him in the modern world. Dedications to musicians who have passed away, dramatic events in America and Chile, and in the life of the singer himself turned into songs. It was during this period that he began to be called a legend. It was then that he received the Order of the British Empire for his outstanding contribution to the arts and many other awards.

Sting in his youth and now

At the end of 2018, Sting came to Russia with four grandiose concerts. Spectators in Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Moscow and St. Petersburg enthusiastically accepted the musical super show of Sting and Shaggy, who accompanied his older friend on his tour of Russia.

In 2018, Sting and Shaggy did a tour together

Acting career

Curious and restless Sting not only became one of the world’s most popular musicians, but quite successfully declared himself as an actor.

In 1979, he made his feature film debut playing a Mod gang leader named Ace in Quadrophenia, a teen drama with a soundtrack of The Who songs. In the same year, he appeared in the existential detective “Radio On”.

Sting’s first role (Quadrofenia)

Three years later, Sting played the title role in Brimstone and Oil, a drama directed by British director Richard Loncraine. His hero is a young rogue who pretends to be the fiancé of a girl who is in a coma after an accident. Because of the scene of rape, the director, and Sting, had to brush off the flurry of criticism.

On the set of Brimstone and Oil

In 1984, David Lynch’s film “Dune” was released, an event in the world of fantastic cinema. Repainted in red, Sting appeared in the form of the heir to Baron Harkonnen, one of the main character’s antagonists.

Following on the screens came the drama based on the story of Frankenstein “The Bride”, where Sting played the main role along with Jennifer Bills. But after leaving The Police, Sting almost stopped acting.

Sting – song from the movie “Leon”

The most commercially successful film with his participation was Guy Ritchie’s crime tape “Cards, Money, Two Smoking Barrels”. We can say that Richie made his first film thanks to Sting, or rather, his wife. The director turned to Trudy Steyer on the advice of a friend. Sting’s wife owned a production agency and was interested in Ritchie’s short “Hard Business”. She not only gave the debutant the money he desperately needed, but also persuaded her husband to play in the film. Sting appears as Jay Dee, the owner of a bar and the father of the protagonist, who lost his game at Eddie’s cards.

Writing, yoga and other projects

On the eve of his fiftieth birthday, Sting released his autobiographical book Broken Music. According to the musician, he began to write it because there was a great desire to tell people what he really is: different from what they write about him on the Internet and glossy magazines … But when he wrote, it turned out that he himself did not know exactly who he really was. in fact, the hero of his future book. He had to open the doors of memory one by one, and yet Sting thought he had locked them forever. After writing the book and looking at himself anew, the musician fell into depression for more than two years.

The musician is fond of yoga

A man suffering, worrying and thinking, he became the founder of the Rainforest Protection Fund, a participant in numerous charity events and seriously took up yoga, which became an integral part of Sting’s life:

In deep meditation, when you really face the terrifying majesty of eternity, you begin to trust something that will support and guide you through this horror, fear. I have learned to trust the power of love. Love for yourself, people who are close to you … Love for simplicity, sincerity, truth. I think without love, none of these things make sense. Let this all now sound very banal, but it’s true. Love overcomes everything. Amor vincietomnia.

The image of Sting (more precisely, his images in “Quadrofenia” and “Brimstone and Oil”) is inspired by the character of the Hellblazer comics (in the Russian translation “Messenger of Hell”), which were published by Vertigo (DC imprint). Its creators were big fans of The Police.

John Constantine based on Sting

John Constantine is a black magician, an exorcist, cursed and doomed to lead a lonely life because of a mistake made in his youth. The musician was flattered, he read all more than 300 issues, and on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the “Messenger of Hell”, which was in 2018, he wrote the preface to the anniversary collection and congratulated John Constantine on his Twitter.

Sting’s private life

Gordon Sumner lost his virginity at the age of 15 with his age, an attractive brunette schoolgirl. Then there was a girl who was considered the most beautiful in the area. The young man whose mother riveted the eyes of men had a high bar, but this girl surpassed her. She came from a decent family, madly in love with a boyfriend, but was far from everything “intellectual”. Gordon made her read books, but she preferred teen magazines, and he soon gave up and continued to enjoy regular bedtime encounters. He did not have special feelings for his girlfriend, but when she became pregnant, he surrounded her with care. However, when she had a miscarriage in the third month, he breathed a sigh of relief.

Sting – Englishman in New York

He dated her for a while, but then he met Caroline, an intellectual peer who was read by Jean-Paul Sartre. He did not dare to abandon the previous passion: at first he felt sorry for her, who had lost her child, then her mother died of cancer. So he tossed between them, then plucked up courage and went to Caroline. Three years later, she left him, which happened to Gordon for the first time.

Young Sting

Later, the musician lost count of sexual partners, but, according to Sting, there were three women in his life who had a strong influence on his life.

The first, Deborah Anderson, is a very beautiful and tall girl whom Gordon Sumner met in a common company. They were twenty years old, Deborah was considered the girlfriend of his friend John. But mutual sympathy was so strong that Sting took the girl away from the party, and then from a friend. These were his first romantic relationships, the first childhood embarrassment and mutual desire to know all the secrets of each other.

In an interview in 2003, the musician will call Deborah “the first real girl”, the song “Walking in the Moon”, one of the most popular in the repertoire of The Police, is dedicated to her. When Sting left her house, he seemed to feel like he was floating in weightlessness.

The girl believed that their idyll would end in marriage, but Gordon knew that this would not happen. He already played in a jazz band, dreamed of fame and passionately wanted to escape from the boring town into the big world. Despite his tender love and frank hints from his mother that he could not find a better wife, Sting broke up with Deborah.

Sting’s first wife Frances Tomelty

When he was already married to Francis Tomelty, who gave birth to a son from him (Joseph, born in 1976), and with the whole family they lived in London, where the musician made his first creative successes, his mother called and said that Deborah had died. For a long time, Gordon was tormented by guilt, washing it down with alcohol, eating ecstasy and indulging in a variety of vices. Frances, a not very successful actress, endured everything, and even gave birth to her second child (Fuchsia Katherine, 1982 year of birth).

Joe and Kate, Sting’s older children

But Sting more and more often disappeared from the house for a long time, talking about some obligations and the opportunity to earn money for the family. Until it became known that his trips are connected with a new love – actress Trudie Styler, who was remarkably similar to his first love …. Just at that moment, the musician left the group “The Police”, deciding at the same time to break family ties with Tomelty, no matter how painful it was.

Sting and Trudy Styler

Trudy changed his life as much as he could ever dream of. She gave birth to Sting’s four children – Mickey (1984), Jake (1985), Eliot (1990) and Giacomo (1995).

Sting and Trudy’s children: Jack, Mickey and Eliot

After some time, the musician did everything so that the two elders – Joe and Kate – and his four younger children became friends. Mickey enjoyed messing around with his stepbrother’s sons and attended parties with Kate. Eliot has had a successful solo career. Sting gave her his first bass guitar, the same one he learned to play. Jake is a model and Giacomo is the frontman for Fiction Plane.

Sting and his youngest son Giacomo

After the tour, as always, the musician returned to his homeland, to his chic estate near Stonehenge. In the summer, together with Trudy, he went to Tuscany, to his own estate with a 16th-century palazzo. On the estate, Sting built a chapel with a large Buddha statue. Approximately three hundred hectares of land are allotted here for forests, vineyards, olive groves, and two lakes.

Sting’s house built in the 16th century

The family is engaged in winemaking and produces family olive oil, produces cheese, honey, and grows its own vegetables. The musician adheres to a macrobiotic diet, refused semi-finished products and preservatives, reduces the consumption of dairy and meat products. Large-scale tours are not complete without a personal chef, although Sting admits that he likes to afford ice cream and chocolate, as well as a glass of wine of his own pour. Perhaps it is this component that helps the 68-year-old artist maintain the energy of a fourteen-year-old teenager and feel happy. And, of course, music, without which Sting cannot imagine his own life:

There is definitely something healing in music, not only for the one who sings, but also for the listeners. I take this shamanic aspect of music seriously, without being self-absorbed. There is something that you transmit, broadcast… It’s all about vibrations and higher vibrations. If you have a good voice, there is harmony all the way up and down. It connects us to something beyond our understanding. Music will always be my only way to pray,” Sting smiles broadly and adds, “It will be a big surprise when I get in front of the Lord.

Sting is now

Recently, Sting has practically not recorded new compositions, but in 2019 the album My Songs was released with new arrangements and reworked versions of old compositions. The singer had several tours planned for 2020 (including in Eastern Europe), but all of them were canceled due to the coronavirus.

In 2021, he was preparing to release his 15th studio album, The Bridge. On October 2, Sting turned 70, and the album was scheduled for release on October 19.November, and the single “If It’s Love” was released on September 1. Sting says that in the new work he tried to find answers to the questions posed by the coronavirus pandemic, total isolation and political crisis. As evidenced by the title of the album, which translates as “bridge”:

These songs… they are somewhere between points A and B. Between the conscious and the unconscious. Between life and death. Between relationships. Between pandemics and eras – politically, socially and psychologically. We are all stuck in the middle of nothing and we all need a bridge.

Interview with the Vampire Cast – New , comparison, 2022, roles, who played

Interview with the Vampire premiered on October 2, 2022. For the first time, the film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Anne Rice was released in 1994th. Then the scandalous show did not dare to shoot for a long time, they changed the details. However, the wait was worth it: the project was awarded international awards, and the actors of the film “Interview with the Vampire” woke up famous. Who played the main roles in the new project and what the audience thinks about the production – in the material 24SMI.

Lestat de Lioncourt

The main intrigue of the 2022 project was the authenticity in relation to the original source. The series “Vampire Interview” allowed viewers to better understand the complex relationships of the characters.

Fortunately, the serial film format allowed the creators to reveal the story of the novel in detail. True, the action of the television movie unfolded at the beginning of the 20th century. Whereas the predecessor film showed events that took place almost a century and a half ago.

Lestat de Lioncourt, the main villain of the project, was played by 32-year-old Tom Cruise. There are two versions of the film in the Russian voice acting. Cruise’s voice was voiced by dubbing actors Nikita Prozorovsky-Semenov and Vladimir Vikhrov.

In the mid-90s, Cruz was just gaining momentum in Hollywood, and participation in the project helped to consolidate the position of a superstar.

The actor of the film “Interview with the Vampire” approached the filming of the project responsibly and gained carnivorous habits, reviewing films about wildlife, where he watched lions attacking zebras. The artist took up the work with enthusiasm and wanted to prove to Rice that it was no coincidence that he was approved for the role, since the author was unhappy with the choice of the performer.

Cruz bravely endured upside down makeup and inconvenience on set. Due to the short height of the artist, some scenes had to be played on a stand to look taller.

After the premiere, the writer was surprised by the actor’s work and succinctly noted Tom Cruise with the wording “the guy is great.”

And in the new project, the role of the main vampire went to 35-year-old Australian Sam Reid. The artist was remembered in the image of Father Ignatius in the serial project “Lambs of God”.

Many fans of the film were confused by the choice of the actor for the role of Lestat, because the actor looks like the canonical “Australian firefighter”. Before the premiere, many expressed pity for Reid, believing that it was impossible to outplay Cruise, who convincingly played the main villain of the story.

Louis de Pont du Lac

Brad Pitt played the role of eternal sufferer Louis in the film. By the way, Russian viewers could see the film with different voice acting. Two dubbing actors worked on the creation of the image: Vyacheslav Baranov and Valery Storozhik.

At the time of filming, Pitt was 31 years old, and in the creative biography of the notable roles were a couple of main characters, the image of a maniac in the thriller “California” and work in the series “Dallas” and “Tales from the Crypt”.

Later, the ex-Angelina Jolie was perceived as a handsome man from a vampire movie, not really going into the details of acting. Although invitations from directors after the premiere fell on Brad, and a bright streak began in his creative biography.

However, Pitt was really good at suffering. In many ways, the scenes were obtained due to the fact that the actor had a hard time on the set. Unlike Tom Cruise, who was fired up with work, Brad was fading away.

Hanging upside down was unbearable for Pitt, putting on make-up was unpleasant. In addition, the shooting took place indoors, and in the morning and evening it was already dark in the city. The lack of sunlight provoked depression.

In the middle of filming, the actor of the film “Interview with the Vampire” could not stand it and wanted to break the contract. But the amount of compensation announced by the producers was sobering. Handsome had to return to the frame. So Louis’ whining was natural.

In the series, the role of Louie went to 32-year-old Jacob Anderson. The performer is known for the Game of Thrones franchise, in which he played the Gray Worm.

Fans of the 1994 film questioned the cast for the role of Louie in the TV series. Opinions differed: on the one hand, they did not believe that the young performer could cope with the gothic charm and vitality of the character. On the other hand, Anderson was asked to give a chance, since the potential of a celebrity is high, and in terms of acting, as fans believed, he turned out to be stronger than his colleagues in the frame.

Claudia

Natalie Portman was considered for the role of the main character Claudia in the film. But Kirsten Dunst was more convincing, although the first tests failed. Kirsten Dunst was dubbed by actress Tatyana Kanaeva.

At the age of 11, the actress brilliantly coped with the role of an adult vampire locked in a child’s body. The young actress kissed for the first time in the frame. However, growing up on the set did not become an argument for parents. In her childhood, the actress did not watch the film in full, because mom and dad considered the production cruel and forbade the scary movie heiress.

In the new show of 2022, 19-year-old Bailey Bass appeared in the role of Claudia. It is too early to talk about the high-profile works of the young performer. A notable project that will obviously bring success has not yet been released. We are talking about the continuation of the film “Avatar”, where Bass was entrusted with the role of the daughter of the leader of another Pandora clan. The premiere of the project is scheduled for mid-December.

The choice of an actress to play the lead role in the vampire triangle surprised fans. The reviews wrote that a young vampiress cannot be with cheeks the color of a winter plum. Claudia was called too old in the series.

In the first comments, the young actress was not even given a chance to appear in the frame. Followers refused to watch the 2022 project. Perhaps the opinion will change after the release of the second part of Avatar, and the young performer will win the sympathy of the audience.
