After 1917, a significant number of highly educated people left the territory of the former Russian Empire – scientists, professors, academicians and specialists in all professional fields. Many of them united in Russian academic organizations with the aim of maintaining the unity of the Russian scientific community abroad, coordinating the activities of its members, developing Russian academic traditions and passing them on to the younger generation, and helping Russian scientists and young people to receive and improve their education.
