Texas mall shooting: nine dead, seven injured

According to eyewitnesses, an armed man opened fire indiscriminately at passers-by. Hundreds of people were evacuated from the mall.
Police said they shot the shooter. It is believed that he acted alone.

Some of the victims are reportedly children. At least seven people are in the hospital, three of them in critical condition.
Allen Fire Chief Jonathan Boyd said seven people, including the shooter, died at the scene and two later died in hospital. According to doctors, the age of the victims – from 5 years to 51 years.
Allen Police Chief Brian Harvey reported that one of the officers at the mall heard the sound of gunfire, ran to find out what was going on, started a shootout with the suspect, and shot him dead.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott called the shooting “an unspeakable tragedy” and said he was ready to provide any assistance to local authorities.
US Police have asked citizens with video footage of the incident to contact the FBI as evidence is being collected.
According to several witnesses, the shooter was dressed in all black and in combat gear. In the frames that appeared, an AR-15 automatic rifle is visible in rows with his body.

Allen has a population of approximately 105,000 and is located 32 kilometers north of downtown Dallas.

In Texas, most adults aged 21 and over are allowed to carry a handgun without a license if they have no prior convictions, and there are few restrictions on the ownership of rifles and shotguns.
The Texas State Legislature is controlled by Republicans, who traditionally do not support any measures to tighten gun control.
According to the non-governmental organization Gun Violence Archive, there have been at least 198 mass murders in the United States since the beginning of this year – that is, those in which four or more people were injured. By this time of year, it is the highest figure in at least seven years.

One of the eyewitnesses to the shooting, Fontaine Payton, told AP that he heard the shots even through his headphones.
According to him, when people were allowed to leave the mall and he went outside, he saw the dead bodies lying there.
“I really hoped they weren’t children, but the bodies looked like children’s,” he said.
Allen Mayor Ken Fulk called it a “tragic day” for the city.

The PROESTATE Forum Organizing Committee is accepting applications for participation in the Russian stage of the international TOBY Awards in the field of commercial real estate management. The award is organized by the American Association of Homeowners and Building Managers BOMA International.
TOBY Awards can be nominated for office and retail centers, industrial, historical, medical and government buildings, as well as suburban business parks. A prerequisite for the nominees is that the object must be in operation for at least three years. It is necessary to download and submit an application before August 15 on the official page of the award.
The declared objects are evaluated by an international panel of experts in the field of commercial real estate management. Evaluation criteria for buildings include technical characteristics, interior finishes, energy efficiency, environmental friendliness, emergency preparedness, degree of impact of the project on society, quality of interaction with tenants, level of competence of employees, waste management and air quality in the building.
The winners of the Russian stage of the Prize get the opportunity to first present their project in Moscow at the XI International Real Estate Investment Forum PROESTATE, and then at the BOMA Every Building Conference and Expo International Forum on June 23-26, 2018 in San Antonio (Texas, USA).
