City of Cambridge, Massachusetts

, in the state of Massachusetts, on the coast of the Charles River, the city of Cambridge is located. A major educational and research center of America. The population is about 102,000 people. It is located near Boston and is its suburb. The main asset is the world famous Harvard University. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Academy of Sciences and Humanities, and the legendary Research Center for Astrophysics deserve close attention. Cambridge is one of the first cities in the United States where printing appeared. nine0003

A bit of history

The city was founded in 1630, the first name was New Town. 6 years later, Harvard College was built on its territory, and the city was renamed Cambridge. By the end of the 17th century, it had become a major, flourishing cultural capital of the United States. In the middle of the 18th century, the base of the American army was located here. And in 1775, George Washington became its commander-in-chief. Today Cambridge is a large historical, tourist, cultural, educational and scientific center of the country. nine0003

Cambridge Attractions

City Museums

One of the main attractions of the city is the Harvard Museum. It is located inside a beautiful old building adjacent to the university. Within its walls are the historical, archaeological museums and the Peabody Museum of Ethnology. It houses unique ethnographic and anthropological exhibits, historical reference books, maps and documents, several collections of minerals, herbariums, and many other equally valuable exhibits. Nearby rises the building of Harvard University, which in itself is a masterpiece of architectural art. This majestic red brick building is decorated with carved antique arches. A picturesque park is laid out around – bright flower beds, a well-groomed lawn, numerous benches. nine0003

Massachusetts Institute of Technology Museum is very popular. Its exposition includes all the most incredible inventions of the 20th century. There is a wonderful natural park near the university building. These are original flower arrangements, a neatly trimmed lawn and an abundance of centuries-old trees.

Brattle Theater (“Stomp”)

Another notable building is located on Harvard Square – the Brattle Theater, translated from English as “Stomp”. This is a small cozy house with narrow windows and a sloping roof. Inside there is a cinema where documentaries, modern cinema, as well as good old films are shown. nine0003

Cambridge parks

There are several natural parks in the city where you can take a walk with the whole family. The most famous park is Charles River Bike Path. Tourists are given the opportunity to appreciate the specially equipped cycling and hiking trails, have a picnic right on the lawn or visit one of the sports fields. The youngest visitors will find wonderful playgrounds with sandboxes, miniature houses, swings and benches. North Point is a wonderful park with numerous playgrounds, fun rides, water slides, and picnic areas. You can go on a boat trip, sunbathe, feed the ducks, or you can just enjoy the fresh air and the beauty of this amazing park. nine0003

For lovers of peace and quiet, the Fresh Pond Reservation park is the best place. This is a huge natural park with well-equipped paths, magnificent recreation areas. Citizens come here to take a break from everyday worries, enjoy the singing of birds, the aroma of herbs, breathe fresh air and be alone with nature. No less attractive is the Kennedy Natural Park. In the center is a monument to US President Kennedy. The park is decorated with sparkling fountains, each representing an extraordinary architectural composition.
